Take the positive parenting approach to help your child overcome defiance through this 9-step parenting planDoes you child argue with adults, including you? Are they easily angered?Do they oppose every rule and blame others for their mistakes?Parenting can often feel like an uphill battle, especially as the child grows older. But sometimes, your child's behavior is not always childlike. Sometimes, their uncalled-for aggression and defiance can mean something else.According to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, it is estimated that nearly 2 to 16% of school-going children and teens have ODD.Usually, in young children, ODD can manifest with depression, anxiety, and even ADHD, and this overlap can make it harder for you to figure out what's going on.Children with ODD can also show signs of low self-esteem and are usually angry, annoyed, and moody.Parenting such a child can prove to be stressful and overwhelming. In such a case, how can you make sure your child not only adopts good behavior but also doesn't defy what they're being told? How can you discipline them without having to resort to anger or getting involved in a power struggle that only leads to resentment? While it might seem too good to be true, the answer to your worries starts with you.As a parent, you can model good behavior and social skills in your child using positive reinforcement. All you have to do is follow these 9 steps to get started. In Parenting Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, you will discover: ● The 9-step parenting plan to help your ODD child through positive parenting techniques● A deeper look at Oppositional Defiant Disorder - signs, symptoms, causes, and treatments● What your child's defiance means, and how it relates to ODD as well as ADHD● How to build your child's self-esteem using positive reinforcement● Behavior Mapping - learn the ABCs of behavior and how you can use these to monitor your child's behavior progress● How to create a behavior plan tailored to your child - discover the tricks and tools you need to bring about positive behavioral modifications● Effective communication techniques - show your children love and encouragement● How to develop social skills - help your child become a better person, manage their emotions, and make the right decisionsAnd much more.Your child has the potential to outgrow ODD, and with proper care and parenting, your child as well as your family can experience a rewarding life. And it all starts with you...

Alone...But Never Lonely

K,Lee  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/25 出版

We don't always know how our decisions shape our reality, but we should be aware. We don't always see our enemy, because often it hides in plain sight. The lessons we skip in our infancy-youth can be the sure stumbling block that can catapult our simple life into the estranged. This story features rebellion, independence, manipulation, and headstrong opinions set on proving themselves. She is not alone in her desire to live life how she wants and thinking like a child is not limited to teenagers nor is childish behavior. Amazing how numbers truly don't dictate maturity but our choices and accountability. Enjoy the first novel from K. Lee and the second book in the Alone...But Never Lonely series: Janet!

What Do You Even Do With a Baby?

Sarah,Dunham  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/25 出版

What is parenthood really like? Before taking the plunge and getting up the duff myself, I didn't have a clear picture of what life would be like on the other side of the umbilical cord. It doesn't get talked about openly. This book is an up-front (and hopefully amusing) account of our experience of the first 12 months of parenting. We thought about topics people want to ask new parents but don't because it's too awkward . . .- What's involved in getting the baby out-and how do your nether regions fare?- What do you even do with a baby all day?- Is it really amazing or completely impossible?- What impact could parenthood have on your relationship-even if everything is great now?- What happens to your sex life?- And the big one: are there times where you wondered if you could give the baby back tomorrow, with absolutely no consequences . . . would you do it?We aim to demystify parenting so you can make a well-informed decision about becoming one.An ideal book for people thinking about parenthood, those already expecting, or new parents wanting some comfort as they navigate delightful highs and overwhelming lows.

Declarative Language Handbook

Ingram 出版
2022/04/24 出版

Do you know a child that gets upset when their routine changes? They might also struggle to see the big picture, to make friends, to problem solve in real time, and to read nonverbal communication. Meltdowns, tantrums and other challenging behaviors might be common. This book was written to teach you how making small shifts in your language and speaking style will produce important results. You will stop telling kids what to do and instead thoughtfully give them information to help them make important discoveries in the moment. These moments build resilience, flexibility, and positive relationships over time. You might be a therapist or a teacher, or you might be a parent, grandparent, or babysitter. Your child might have a diagnosis such as autism, Asperger's Syndrome, PDA, ADHD or Non-Verbal Learning Disability. But they might not. No matter your child's learning style, this book was written to help you feel equipped to make a difference, simply by being mindful of your own communication and speaking style."When I heard that Linda Murphy was writing "Declarative Language Handbook", a hallmark of RDI, I knew that our Autism and Communication worlds were about to be influenced by the cutting edge thinking of a truly remarkable expert in the field. What I wasn't prepared for were the crisp, practical, useful guidelines that will make this the most important book on the shelf of clinicians and parents."Rachelle K. Sheely PhD President & Co-Founder of RDIConnect"The shift to increased student agency and teachers as coaches is dependent on a new kind of language in the classroom. Declarative language elevates teaching to that new level."Melissa Andrichak MAT, First Grade Teacher"As a seasoned clinician, I found that when I changed my language from imperative to declarative, I started to notice new competencies of children. I am continually amazed at how simple (but difficult!) changes in my language can be so powerful and bring about incredible changes in a short time. We are so fortunate to have Linda explain the principles of Declarative Language in a book."Martha Bargmann MS, CCC-SLP Speech Language Pathologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children"Finally! An easy to read book that meets parents and educators 'in the trenches' with information and strategies that help our kids learn critical thinking, social problem solving and executive functioning skills. This book is proof of how making small shifts in our language can have far reaching results."Beckham Linton M.A., CCC-SLP, Social Learning Consultant /Coach "What if people mostly used language with you to tell you what to do or to tell you that you should have done it better? I think you'd agree, that would get discouraging rather fast! For individuals with social learning challenges, this is too often their experience. Through this handbook, Linda guides us to notice how a shift in our use of language (from imperative to declarative) can fundamentally shift how children relate to us and the world around them. Through many practical examples and tips for developing our own use of declarative language, Linda provides us the tools to build positive, pro-active relationships with the individuals we parent, teach or counsel."Michelle Garcia Winner, Founder of the Social Thinking MethodologySpeech Language Pathologist, MA-CCC

Going to the Potty For Boys

Ingram 出版
2022/04/22 出版

To Parents and Special Educators: Many children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience difficulties with daily life activities such as toileting. This activity can be especially difficult for those children who have sensory issues, and who lack body awareness. The purpose of life skills stories is to describe the experience in a step-by-step format in order to reduce the child's anxiety about the activity; life skills stories also state the behavior you expect from the child in a positive, upbeat way. How to use a life skills story: Life skills stories should be presented in a quiet and relaxed setting. Until the child becomes comfortable with the toileting routine, the parent should plan on reading the life skills story at least three times a day prior to toileting. By including the story in the daily routine, the child will know what to expect, and should become less anxious and more confident about this essential self-care activity. It is also extremely helpful to keep a toileting schedule so that the child has more opportunities to be successful. Supplementing the life skills story with other toileting books and videos will also reinforce the desired behavior. Although it is a matter of personal preference, toileting tends to go faster if the child wears regular underwear as much as possible rather than pull-ups. Please note: It has been the authors' experience when working on toileting skills for boys with ASDs that it works best to start off sitting down to urinate. This may not be the case with your child, so try standing if sitting is not working out.

Within these pages you will find new learnings, unspoken realities and healing perspectives. The words will transport you through, and back to, key moments in your early motherhood journey. She goes right to the heart of the highs and lows of the magical mess that is motherhood. If I'm ever feeling alone in it all, a moment leafing through her musings makes me instantly feel more connected-to myself, to my child and to the other warrior mothers out there."Ali Bastian, Actor "Emma's words have been the balm for my soul more times than I can count. I've found comfort and validation in them and felt not so alone."Dilshad B, Founder of The Gentle Mamma "Emma's words speak straight to the heart of every mother, whether new or seasoned. How I Found God

Christian Faith 出版
2022/04/21 出版

My book is about the day my husband "kidnapped" me; a fifteen-year-old girl (my great great great grandmother) on the Oregon Trail, attacked by Indians; my cat, Hairball; and my friend Norma's encounter with Elvis Presley.I wrote this book for the millions of people who will be left behind after "the Rapture" takes place. This is an event that happens when Jesus takes all believers up to heaven. With so many people missing, those remaining will realize that there is a God and will want to know him. This little book explains in a simple way how they can find God.

It's Not Black, It's Not White

Ingram 出版
2022/04/20 出版

This book is God-Ordained, predestined for you to read. Being in an interethnic relationship is harder than it looks. Not from the inside, but from the outside. In this book, Ronald and Fe reveal their journey of over 35 years of marriage, although different ethnicity, as soulmates. No one could have told Fe she would be in an interethnic relationship, especially a MARRIAGE!!! But according to Ron, as everyone knows him, he already knew this to be his destiny, with Felicia. However, here we are 35 plus years later; two daughters and a beautiful granddaughter. Living life with someone outside your ethnicity is very challenging. I want to pause and reiterate regarding the challenges; it's not from the relationship itself but from the world's view. Outsiders looking in! I'm not saying it has been easy on the inside either, although very doable. These 35 plus years have taught us a lot about who we are as well as who people (outsiders) are. Over the years we have grown together, cried together, and laughed together. A lot of laughs! But most importantly we have LOVED together. So come along and open your hearts and minds in understanding that it's not the outside that determines who we are but merely the inside. Let's be open and not limited in the way we view the "Human Race" whether black, white or somewhere in between. Love is Love and there are no boundaries. This is our journey.

South of Centre

Edie,Ayala  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/20 出版

An intriguing saga of lost love and hidden family connections unfolds amidst myths and superstitions. Clorinda is a solitary young woman who freelances as a seamstress in a small desert town where things rarely change. Friendless and eccentric, she dresses in her 'calendar wardrobe' as she collects donations of used clothing from which she creates simple works of art. Clorinda becomes hopelessly distracted when an elderly gentleman moves in across the street. He is elegant and worldly and he looks like Clark Gable from the movie poster downtown. Obsessed, she sets off to know more, and when he finally befriends her, the story of his life and the truth behind their relationship is slowly revealed. With the chance that it may be lost forever, the biggest secret hides behind a simple marker at the old man's tomb and is caught among the crazy threads of Clorinda's weaving. Dipping into some of Chile's rich history around the time of Pinochet's regime, SOUTH OF CENTRE unravels through multiple narratives and is doused in magic realism. The story raises questions about social justice and other things that we may never quite get to the bottom of.

YOU are worth your time, too! You give and give, no matter what it costs you. That's part of being a mother. But focusing on yourself and your mental health makes you a better person, and a better mother. Spend ten minutes at the beginning of the week planning to manage stress and release anxiety. Then spend ten minutes at the end of the week reflecting. Just twenty minutes each week to help your have inner peace and a happier life with your family. Introduction: Being a mother is the most important, most stressful, most all-consuming job you'll ever have. Sometimes it can seem to completely swallow you whole. (I battled post partum depression for a year after both of my boys were born. I remember weeks feeling like I was on a gray carousel withnothing to look forward to.)You also constantly question if you are doing the right thing, and always thinking you can do more. You bounce back and forth between anxiety and guilt, never taking a step back to appreciate what you've done or how far you've come. It takes a concerted effort to release the stress and negative thoughts and emotions. Focusing on yourself makes you a better person and a better mom. The goal with this journal is to help you focus within and to empower you to create peace in your life. Wishing you many days of happiness and serenity.

Clash of the Mind and Heart: Parents' Playbook for Helping Youths Succeed

Ingram 出版
2022/04/20 出版

This book is not just for parents! While it was initially written for them, increasingly adults working with adolescents also sought help. I tried putting something together specifically for these adults but found that the content is also in this book. These are some common woes of adolescents and adults about each other - 'My parents don't understand me.', 'Why is my child emotionally explosive all the time?', 'My parents are always nagging.', 'Teens cannot seem to be able to think about the consequence first before acting!'The understanding-divide between adolescents and adults seems to be getting wider. Concretely on a day-to-day basis, adolescents and parents are clashing with each other over mind and heart issues; and no one seemed to be able to 'get' the other. Even if one 'got it', it would not take long before one would challenge the other about it.Neuroscience has informed us that the divide has always been there and will continue to be there because it is developmental. The prefrontal cortex will only be fully developed about ten years after the limbic system becomes fully functional. These two areas are primarily responsible for setting and achieving goals, and behavioural-emotional responses, respectively. The implication of this reality is huge, and it explains the 'clash of the mind and heart' issues at so many levels; specifically, rational-emotional conflict during adult-adolescent engagement. One of the ways to reduce that conflict is to heighten the understanding of adult-child developmental realities and learn the strategies that would help the other succeed. Such endeavours seemed to benefit only the adult more because they seemed to be more matured developmentally, but if we know how to help adolescents appreciate the realities, they are able to also benefit from it and manage the constant 'clashing' with the adults. Thus, this book proposes the framework and strategies to help youths succeed and includes some stories of professional youth work, where effective youth engagement strategies are highlighted by youths themselves in retrospect.

A Treatise on Parents and Children

Bernard,Shaw  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/18 出版

George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 - 2 November 1950), known at his insistence simply as Bernard Shaw, was an Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.Born in Dublin, Shaw moved to London in 1876, where he struggled to establish himself as a writer and novelist, and embarked on a rigorous process of self-education. By the mid-1880s he had become a respected theatre and music critic. Following a political awakening, he joined the gradualist Fabian Society and became its most prominent pamphleteer. Shaw had been writing plays for years before his first public success, Arms and the Man in 1894. Influenced by Henrik Ibsen, he sought to introduce a new realism into English-language drama, using his plays as vehicles to disseminate his political, social and religious ideas. By the early twentieth century his reputation as a dramatist was secured with a series of critical and popular successes that included Major Barbara, The Doctor's Dilemma and Caesar and Cleopatra.Shaw's expressed views were often contentious; he promoted eugenics and alphabet reform, and opposed vaccination and organised religion. He courted unpopularity by denouncing both sides in the First World War as equally culpable, and although not a republican, castigated British policy on Ireland in the postwar period. These stances had no lasting effect on his standing or productivity as a dramatist; the inter-war years saw a series of often ambitious plays, which achieved varying degrees of popular success. In 1938 he provided the screenplay for a filmed version of Pygmalion for which he received an Academy Award. His appetite for politics and controversy remained undiminished; by the late 1920s he had largely renounced Fabian Society gradualism and often wrote and spoke favourably of dictatorships of the right and left-he expressed admiration for both Mussolini and Stalin. In the final decade of his life he made fewer public statements, but continued to write prolifically until shortly before his death, aged ninety-four, having refused all state honours, including the Order of Merit in 1946.Since Shaw's death scholarly and critical opinion about his works has varied, but he has regularly been rated among British dramatists as second only to Shakespeare; analysts recognise his extensive influence on generations of English-language playwrights. The word Shavian has entered the language as encapsulating Shaw's ideas and his means of expressing them. (wikipedia.org)

The Secrets to Happy Parenting, Happy Kids

Nijel,James  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/17 出版

There are several challenging phases in one's life, and parenthood is one of them. In my quest to become a better parent by understanding the psychology of a child's mind, I have discovered that many parents become depressed because the challenges of parenthood seem to be overwhelming. However, parenting can be made easy if you have the proper knowledge about what parenting ought to be. As much as parenting requires intentionality and hard work, it shouldn't take our happiness and life away. Our approach to parenting determines whether we will be happy parents who will raise happy and well-behaved kids or not.The Secret to Happy Parenting, Happy Kids is written to help you understand how different parenting styles affect the development of your kids. While you may become worried that you have a child who always throws tantrums (as was the case with my wife) or acts cold towards you, you need to pause and check your parenting styles and what you are not doing right. Kids are like a computer, garbage in, garbage out. So, the question is, what are you inputting into your children? No child is naturally bad or good; the parents' efforts and inputs make the difference between children who make their parents happy and vice versa. You can't assume that you know or have all it takes to raise a well-behaved kid because in parenting, like any other thing, learning never ends. This book is not to judge or dictate how to train your child; it only provides well-researched and practical steps that will help you to raise happy kids. I have extensively explained many topics that may seem new to you about parenting and raising kids. Therefore, I advise that you take your time reading this book and practice the tips and skills of parenting designed to help you raise children that will make you smile now and in the nearest future.

The Boy from Brunswick Junction

Ross,Britza  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/14 出版

For a man who had no interest in religion, and especially the Christian Faith, Bill was ambushed by God's call at the age of 21 years. His turn竅around to following this call was as sudden as that of the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus. From his conversion he had to learn a new way of life, giving up compet竅itive sport, dancing and his foul language, to pursue his desire to serve God. He was determined to follow God's leading, and through influential friends, was encouraged to go and study at the Perth Bible Institute. Despite his poor education he excelled at his studies. In his first year at the Institute he was challenged by a former missionary to go and serve the Lord in Nyasaland (Now Malawi), which he accepted. He had to receive special permission from the Institute to leave his studies before he'd finished his Course, on the condition he completed it in Nyasaland. He had a growing interest in a young lady and struggled to leave her behind. Bill sailed for Africa in early 1940, just as Britain and Australia declared war on Germany. On arriving in Blantyre, Nyasaland, he start-ed a fruitful and challenging nineteen year ministry in Africa. Would his obedience to follow God to Africa be the end of his growing love for this young lady, or would God find a way to bring them together? This book, based on a true story, is a powerful reminder of what God can do with those who give themselves to Him wholeheartedly.

The Empathy Advantage

Ingram 出版
2022/04/14 出版

We live in a time when empathy is not only lacking but on the decline. Kids are bullied because of their weight, color of their skin, religion, identity, and more. Bullying and cyberbullying are increasing, especially for children of color, LGBTQ youth, and Asian, Jewish, and Muslim youth. Fueled by decreases in respect, kindness, and compassion, our civil society is in decline. The good news is that empathy--the ability to "walk in someone else's shoes"--can be learned and developed. This book coaches adults to teach empathy to kids. Kids with better social-emotional skills, including empathy, end up as better friends, co-workers, spouses, partners and parents. Families with a higher empathy quotient have a more peaceful, loving culture at home.In this guide for the busiest adults, parents and educators are coached to help their children and students develop social skills that will equip them to better make pro-social choices with self-compassion and empathetic concern--from preschool to high school.

Cindy and Ringo

Paul,Duffe  著
Ingram 出版
2022/04/13 出版

Cindy and Ringo is about a little girl and her journey in eventually adopting her first pet. Among the many cute cats to choose from, Ringo is a special cat with his own story of abandonment and longs to have a family of his own one day. While visiting a local cat shelter in search of a kitten, 5 year-old Cindy notices a particularly lonely looking older cat, Ringo, who quickly befriends her. Cindy learns the valuable lesson that pets can be loving friends at any age. Paul was inspired to write Cindy and Ringo after his eye-opening experience volunteering at a local no-kill cat shelter. The shelter housed hundreds of abandoned -mostly adult cats- that the staff struggled with daily to care for. The goal was to try to find homes for these animals through adoption. Unfortunately, many people were only interested in adopting kittens or very young animals. Paul's intent is to encourage people to visit local animal shelters and consider adopting adult animals as well.
