Transformation of the Hearts, Volume 10
Transformation of the Hearts Series has been filled with family stories being told, secrets revealed, and it seems there is nothing left uncovered. However, one more mystery lies hidden inside these pages, and it's only a 3?5 picture of a five-year-old girl with Helena, her father, Erin Peterson, and "December 10, 1954" written on the back. After sixty years, circumstances will arise that will lead to a discovery that came with a one-time affair.
Born Extraordinary
A parent's guide to empowering children to embrace their visible and invisible differences Meg Zucker was born with one finger on each hand, shortened forearms, and one toe on each misshapen foot, caused by a genetic condition called ectrodactyly. She would eventually pass this condition on to her two sons, and, along with her husband, raise them and their adopted daughter, who has her own invisible differences. Born of the family's hard-won experiences, this book offers invaluable advice on raising confident, empathetic, and resilient children who succeed, not despite but because of their differences. Born Extraordinary helps parents of children with differences and disabilities to relinquish their instinctive anxieties, embrace their new normal, and ultimately find joy in watching their children thrive. Often the subjects of unwanted attention--ranging from pitying stares to bullying--Zucker and her sons have learned to ignore what others think and live fearlessly. Also incorporating the stories of other families with visible and invisible differences of all kinds, Born Extraordinary gives parents the tools to meet their children's emotional needs while supporting the whole family unit. Parents learn how best to empower their children to confront others' assumptions, grow in confidence, and encourage dialogue--rather than silence, fear, and shame--around difference.

Additional chapters cover family life education considerations for specific populations, including rural families; incarcerated persons and their families; court-mandated parents and families; military and veteran families; grandfamilies; grandparents raising grandchildren; LGBTQ families; Black families; Indigenous families; Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander families; Arab immigrant families; Asian immigrant families; and Latino/Latina immigrant families. The second edition has been updated to reflect shifting demographics, changes in relevant policies, and advances in culturally specific family life education programming and practice relevant to respective populations.Designed to help readers assess their cultural competence and translate their cultural knowledge into effective, inclusive, and compassionate practice, Family Life Education with Diverse Populations is an exemplary resource for courses in family life education, family diversity, human services, and community practice. Teachings to Help You
This book, "Teachings To Help You," is a bit different from the 5 other books that I have published. I have gone back to the series of teachings which I have done through the years and written a chapter on each of the subjects. I have explained it in a little more detail in the, "Introduction." Each of these subjects is related to helping Christians understand and walk-in the Christian life. Sometimes, teachings can concentrate on the doctrine so much (of course, it is very important) and the individual Christian needs to understand how to put it into practice in his or her life. That's what these teachings concentrate on. Please read these chapters carefully and, perhaps, over and over. My heart's desire is that you are really helped by them and that you even want to share the truths with others. Gloria Hartman was in the pastoral ministry with her husband for many years and was involved in teaching the Word of God. She had her own radio teaching program called, "Girl Talk," on a Christian radio station. Through that ministry, she ended up speaking throughout the area in the Midwest in which they lived. After her husband's homegoing, she was on staff (in a teaching capacity) at a church that friends of her and her husband were pastoring. She has been writing books since her husband moved to heaven. In the order they were published, they are "Journey in Grace," "Choosing for a Change," "Coming Out of the Cocoon," "From Darkness to Light," "Living in the Light," and now, "Teachings to Help You."
How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes
How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes is a clear, actionable, sometimes humorous (but always science-based) guide for parents on how to shape their kids into honest, kind, generous, confident, independent, and resilient people...who just might save the world one day. On social media, in the news, and from the highest levels of government, kids are increasingly getting the message that being selfish, obnoxious and cruel is okay. We know, of course, that young people have the capacity for great empathy, resilience, and action, and we all want to bring up kids who will help build a better tomorrow. But how do we actually do this? How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes is a deeply researched, evidence-based primer that provides a fresh, often surprising perspective on parenting issues, from toddlerhood through the teenage years. Science journalist Melinda Wenner Moyer outlines the traits we want our children to possess--including honesty, generosity, and antiracism--and then she provides scientifically-based strategies that will help parents instill those characteristics in their kids. Learn how to raise the kind of kids you actually want to hang out with--and who just might save the world.
Let It Boil Over Twice
When Arthur was a young boy he lived in a salt box style two story house on Mortier Bay, overlooking the ocean. They were a happy family of four. Although his parents had Arthur involved in baseball and hockey he never excelled in sports, but enjoyed playing just for fun. He dreamed of fishing with his dad. During the difficult time Arthur's father was in early recovery from a TBI, they reminisced about his dream to go fishing at Red Harbour Falls Pond with his dad. This is that story. The winter months were cold, and perfect for storytelling by the fire. Arthur would listen to so many fishing stories about Red Harbour Falls Pond, as told by his father, uncles, and their friends. The place became mystical in his mind.He prayed that his dream would come true. Visiting and fishing at the Red Harbour Falls Pond with his dad. Finally, one day it happened. Would it be all it could be? This book is based on that true story.
Dad Bod
A brisk, humorous collection of essays that redefines the mythos of fatherhood depicted in film, television, and video games. What do dads tell us about the world? Not your real dad, but dads in general. Dads are everywhere. Lurking in our movies, television shows, and video games. Spouting homespun wisdom and atrocious jokes, wallowing in might-have-beens and back-in-my-days, or rigidly defending the status quo. These fictional dads fuel a myth of fatherhood. What is that myth trying to tell us? And what is it trying to sell us? Dad Bod is a clever, riveting collection of essays about father figures in popular culture. From Gandalf to Homer Simpson, Die Hard to The Mandalorian, these essays unpack the tropes that inform our collective image of fatherhood. Follow Cian Cruise, newly minted dad, as he riffs on the stereotypes and lore of fatherhood, traces a contemporary art history of dads in popular culture, and journeys to the heart of dadness to become a better father.A RARE MACHINES BOOK
Stool Withholding
UK / Europe / Australia / New Zealand EditionInspired by the author's experience of this issue with her own son, this easy-to-understand guide gives detailed advice on every aspect of stool withholding including soiling (encopresis), laxative medication, toilet training and constipation.Stool withholding is most common in two to four year olds but it can also affect school-age children. It is often triggered by an episode of painful constipation. The child then becomes so terrified of experiencing this pain again that they hold on to their poo for days, even weeks, at a time. Just to add to the misery, stool withholding often causes children to soil their underwear. This bewildering problem can sometimes feel like a form of daily torture, not just for the child but for the whole family. Unless you've experienced this with your own child, it's difficult to imagine just how distressing it can be.After reading this, parents will have a straightforward plan of action, with lots of tips and strategies to try at home. The book also contains useful information about the laxative Movicol, with guidance on appropriate doses. The advice given is backed up by research, as well as the experiences of the author and other parents who have had to deal with this issue.Aimed primarily at parents, this guide should also be essential reading for health professionals, teachers and anyone else who works with, or cares for children.Stool withholding is still a widely misunderstood issue. If awareness and understanding of this subject is increased, many families could be spared this distressing problem.Recommended by ERIC - The Children's Bowel & Bladder Charity: www.eric.org.ukUSA / Canada Edition Also Available: "Stool Withholding: What To Do When Your Child Won't Poop!" Mothers and Leadership
Dr. Reginald E. Vance's mother, affectionately known as Momma V, was a diligent and experienced leader who understood the individual needs, wants, and requirements of each of her children as well as their leadership strengths and weaknesses. Momma V understood these things because she instinctively and intentionally invested decades of time, money, emotion, affection, training, and other resources to hone her intelligence about her organization-the family unit. Mothers are the greatest leaders known to mankind. In an inspirational guide that provides twelve leadership principles presented within three parts-Motivation, Optimism, and Momentum (MOM)-Dr. Vance begins by sharing real-life stories about prayer, positivity, patience, and praise as they relate to the motivation of people, families, groups, communities, and organizations. Within the second and third sections, Dr. Vance offers interrelated stories of purpose, people, persistence, and perspective to provide examples of the organizational skills effective leadership requires, and then shares the principles of priorities, preparation, perseverance, and prosperity that help build the momentum required to achieve-success as a leader. Mothers and Leadership is a valuable guide for anyone who wants to enhance the lives of those they lead in order to improve performance and employee engagement.
I Believe in Destiny
"I Believe In Destiny" is a short autobiography about a child from a northern Portuguese town who wins an academic scholarship and moves to a city near Lisbon. She meets the love of her life during the Portuguese revolution of 1974. She moves to the United States with her family after she graduated in 1976. Her boyfriend flies over the Atlantic to marry her the following year. It is a story of triumph over poverty and struggle. A story that makes you believe the Universe is benevolent, supportive and has a plan for you.
My Alternate Universe
Somewhere out there, on some other timeline, in some other plane of existence, another version of me is living the life I had planned. I picture her to be a peacefully content, self-assured supermom and a bit of a smug know-it-all-very likely an insufferable pain in the ass. I'll try not to judge her, though, because bless her heart, she means well and doesn't know any better.Jennifer Rosado approached childbirth the careful way she approached most things in life: with extensive research and thorough planning and preparation. But her expectations of a perfect labor, delivery, and bonding experience with her newborn son immediately collided with reality, and from that point forward her life was never the same. With disarming candor, Rosado tells the story of her son's challenging childhood years, her own need for control and lifelong battles with anxiety, and the ways that her son's diagnosis of autism changed her perspective and view of the world.Rosado beautifully captures the sense of isolation, loss of identity, and yearning for 'normal, ' while sharing the wisdom she gains from years of experience living a life completely unlike the life she had expected. This engaging memoir is not just about what it's like to raise a child with autism; it's about Rosado's inspiring journey of acceptance, adaptation, and self-discovery in a strange, humbling, enlightening alternate universe.

This secrecy often leads women and men thunderstruck in early parenthood.Intending to do it "better" than our own parents, we find ourselves reliving and re-enacting the experiences of previous generations. Epigenetic research indicates historical trauma, mental illness, addiction, and peculiar coping styles are passed down through both nurture and nature. This was my personal experience as a mother when I suddenly understood why my Irish great-great grandmother was referred to as "Mad Mary." With humor, honesty, and historical references, I share my journey and that of my maternal ancestors from wounded soldiers to devoted warriors. With universal appeal, everyone will recognize elements of their own story in this powerful and poignant memoir.

PEBBLES on the Journey!
"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." - Napoleon Hill These nine inspirational stories represent segments of my life that have been profoundly formed and shaped by culture, environment, self-awareness, and life experiences. These life-lessons have served as inspirations like ocean waves that have rolled onto the shores of my life. These experiences have touched and inspired me, bringing a transformation of my mind and spirit. These inspirations have served as a platform, bringing me to a place of healing, revelation, and self-acceptance, and a personal insight into how to process and view a purposeful life. From time to time along our life's journey, we encounter a fellow sojourner with whom we make a connection almost immediately. It tends to be humility that connects us, seeing in the other a genuine desire to learn, grow, love, and inspire. Born of modest means in Durham, North Carolina, the younger of two sons, Thomas Vanhook Jr. is such a sojourner. For over four decades, Thomas has inspired others through song and music. Among his many gifts, he has most notably applied his talent in the church as a minister of music, pianist, composer, teacher, workshop leader, and many more titles. The most important title to him is that of Inspirationalist. Thomas has dedicated his life's work to achieving a high level of artistry in whatever he does. It is this authentic artistry that touches the lives of so many. For Thomas, this book represents a bold step into a new territory of vulnerability and uncertainty. After many years of learning and growing, he recognized this truth: in his willingness to bare a little of himself-his thoughts, his fears, his triumphs, his failures, his insight and at times, even his humor-he helps others on their journey to connect with their power to learn, grow, love, and inspire.

Colonial New Mexican Families
In villages scattered across the northern reaches of Spain's New World empire, remote from each other and from the centers of power, family mattered. In this book Suzanne M. Stamatov skillfully relies on both ecclesiastical and civil records to discover how families formed and endured during this period of contention in the eighteenth century. Family was both the source of comfort and support and of competition, conflict, and even harm. Cases, including those of seduction, broken marriage promises, domestic violence, and inheritance, reveal the variabilities families faced and how they coped. Stamatov further places family in its larger contexts of church, secular governance, and community and reveals how these exchanges--mundane and dramatic--wove families into the enduring networks that created an intimate colonial New Mexico.
Gender, Youth and Education in Early 21st Century Spain
This book is an introduction to the role played by Spanish formal education in providing feminist pedagogies to adolescents and young people, throughout the first two decades of the 21st century. The images of Spanish feminist protests in recent years, with a considerable presence of young girls but also boys, have spread around the world. But what is their relationship with gender-based inequalities? What is the role of formal education in their understanding of social reality? The authors combine a sociological and historical analysis of the social and educational changes that have taken place in Spanish youth during these decades, with a pedagogical orientation towards practice.

After a birthday party she realises she is growing older and needs to decide if she wants to become a Mum. She tries to meet someone and then decides to go for sperm donation. In this version she also goes for egg donation. The book is very colourful and ideal for children even before they can read, because the pictures are so full of details it easily captures the child s attention. It is my intention that the book should be easy for parents to read to their child so that gradually, as the child grows they will begin to understand their origins, in an easy and amusing manner.
The Ups and Downs of Growing Older
Fifteen percent or twenty-three million persons in the United States are presently over seventy years of age. The Complexity of Aging approaches difficulties that come with oldest age. Often inevitable and seldom anticipated, these oldest-old persons encounter alterations in health and physical abilities, strengthening or impairment of personality traits, and immense losses of family and social relationships; and are prime candidates for active/passive abuse or neglect. Confronted with questions as: How shall I/we find the best home for these years? How will feelings change? How can I remain independent? How will living alone affect me? Yet with such immense changes, the oldest-old persons have a vigor for life, they are the most positive in their view of life, they seek resolutions that feel right, and they accept difficulties with an ability to compensate for compelled changes in life.
Held
Can your prodigal's journey become your greatest testimony? Eleanor Formaggio can without a doubt say yes! God shows up in the midst of disappointment, failure and fear. Even as He moves in the lives of our prodigals, He is changing us into who He has called us to be.Held contains spiritual insights, prayers, and a story that is both painful and hopeful at the same time. While God was looking out for Eleanor's son even when he wandered far, He was taking her on an intensely personal journey as well.In sharing her story, Eleanor encourages us that we can trust God to lift our loved ones out of the mire at just the right time, and explains why He is careful not to do it a moment too soon. In the waiting, however, we can actively partner with God. By pulling on the rope of prayer we can move mountains, activate angels, and hear Jesus whisper into our own hearts as we wait for our prodigals to return. This is a mother's story. Packed with strategies and insights, it will empower you to fight for the future of your child and partner with God for the destiny on their life-and yours!

When Life Stops
This book aims too give a profound understanding of what personal and collective trauma is and what serves healing. A somatic view is combined with a systemic approach and many case studies, guided meditations and exercises make the theoretical explanations tangible. The process of trauma healing is examined, not only in a psychological, but also a spiritual context, recognising the trauma does not only need to be a destructive, but can also become an awakening force. The author throughout the book includes his personal healing journey after losing his wife in tragic accident. In this way the book does not only speak to the reader's intellect, but also reaches him on a feeling level, because only there can real healing take place.
