Managing Challenges in your Home
By acknowledging and addressing their family's most pressing issues, parents will be well on their way to cultivating a more positive home environment for themselves and their children.Managing a home is neither easy nor straightforward. Each family has its own set of challenges, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution to every problem. Some families may struggle financially, while others may be well-off. Some parents may find it difficult to keep their house organized, while others may not be as involved in their children's lives as they would like. Perhaps a family owns only one vehicle and has difficulties scheduling errands and activities. Maybe parents don't have the time or resources to prepare healthy, home-cooked meals for their family on a regular basis. Notably, to ensure their family's success, parents must recognize their family's unique problems and learn how to solve them.A happy family is one who works together to achieve common goals. Though parents and children have their own obligations that must be fulfilled, parents have an innate responsibility to provide for their family. Indeed, to help their family grow and prosper, parents should create a budget, save their money, prepare healthy meals, keep their house organized, and become more actively involved in their children's schooling. Once children are old enough, they will be able to complete various chores and errands, which will help their parents maintain a well-run household. Being a parent is by no means easy; however, by instituting firm but fair rules and providing for their family as best they can, parents will foster a more loving and supportive home environment for not only their children but also themselves.
The Homeschool Decision
The Homeschool Decision: A Step-By-Step Guide for Parents is the book I wish I had when I first started my homeschooling journey. As a parent who has homeschooled multiple children, I know just how daunting the decision to homeschool can be. You want what's best for your kids, but the reality is that homeschooling involves an enormous commitment. That's why I wrote this book-to give you an honest and supportive guide to help you decide if homeschooling is the right choice for your family. When I began my own homeschooling journey, I faced many of the same questions and uncertainties you might be experiencing now: Can I really do this? What if I fail? What will this mean for my family? In this book, I share the lessons I've learned-both the successes and the missteps-so you can approach homeschooling with a clear understanding of what it entails. In these pages, I break down every aspect of homeschooling, from creating a curriculum that works for your child's unique needs to balancing the different roles of parent and teacher. I discuss the challenges you'll likely face-like managing time, planning lessons, and dealing with setbacks-because I've faced them, too. Through my own experiences and those of other homeschooling families, I show that while homeschooling isn't easy, it's incredibly rewarding. For those already homeschooling and looking for new strategies, I share the approaches and methods that worked for our family, as well as the lessons I learned when things didn't go as planned. You'll find advice on everything from organizing your day to creating engaging projects that integrate various subjects, all with the goal of making learning an exciting and enriching part of life. Whether you're in the early stages of considering homeschooling or have already made the decision, this book offers candid advice, practical strategies, and a road map to help you navigate the ups and downs of teaching at home. I want to reassure you that if you choose this path, you're not alone. Together, we'll explore how to create a nurturing and effective learning environment, manage your time, and most importantly, make a confident decision that's right for your family. Household Perspectives on Minority Language Maintenance and Loss
This book provides an in-depth examination of minority language maintenance and loss within a group of first-generation Spanish-speaking families in the early-21st century, post-industrial, hyper-globalized US Midwest, an area that has a recent history of Latino settlement and has a low ethnolinguistic vitality for Spanish. It looks specifically at language 'in the small spaces', that is, everyday interactions within households and families, and gives a detailed account of the gendered nature of linguistic transmission in immigrant households, as well as offering insights into the sociolinguistic aspects of language contact dynamics. Starting with the question of why speakers choose to use and transmit their family language in communities with few opportunities to use it, this book presents the reader with a theoretical model of language maintenance in low vitality settings. It incorporates mothers' voices and perspectives on mothering, their families' well-being, and their role in cultural/linguistic transmission and compares the self-perceptions, motivations, attitudes and language acquisition histories of members of two generations within the same household. It will appeal to researchers and educators interested in bilingualism, language maintenance and family language dynamics as well as to those working in the areas of education, immigration and sociology.

Grandma Mooned the Forest Ranger
Welcome to the sandwich generation. The baby boomers care for their elderly parents and often their grandchildren, all at the same time. This is a story about the difficulties of dealing pleasantly with an aging parent who has health problems, can't hear, often lacks cognitive reasoning, and never liked me very much. Nevertheless, who is better equipped to give a mother a loving home and understanding? I get upset at times but rarely show it because she's, my mom. No matter what the consequences to me, I, the martyr, continue the day with a smile, looking for the rainbow. It's out there somewhere if I just keep searching. At times, this story will sound disrespectful, but it is my way of coping. I tried to get this story written while she was still alive, knowing I would feel terribly guilty writing about some of the episodes after her death. Throughout all the trials and tribulations, there were times when we could still laugh together and reminisce. Knowing that I have given her comfort in her final years is good, but as she used to say, "Hell, I'll outlive all my family." But that prediction did not come true. If it had, I would have hoped that someone would throw this book in the lake before she had a chance to read it; otherwise, she would have peed on my grave.
A Glass Village
It's 1981, Maggie Thatcher's England, and a family from the city risk everything for a new life growing salad on an estate of smallholdings. Life is good, but everything in the garden isn't rosy.... They soon find their neighbours are embroiled in conflict with the estate staff, and worse still, the young fieldsman allocated to help them is more interested in chasing women and plotting his own escape. A real problem, since their only previous experience has been an allotment. It soon becomes clear the scheme is under threat, and desperate to keep their way of life, all the growers have a different take on how to survive. A Glass Village is about people, a richly-woven tapestry of a unique way of life. The setting is unusual, but you don't have to be interested in gardening or like goats to love this book. Its appeal is much wider than that. It's about the yearning so many of us have for community spirit and a simpler life.

Waking Oz
Here's the situation: you wake up one day to find crow's feet, a kid with a license, and a stalling career. You are driving a car you hate, your nails are mangled stubs, and you are wearing those comfortable shoes that-let's be honest-don't flatter anyone. What happened? It's time to wake up and make some changes. As women, many of us have been hiding from our truth-we're getting older, our kids will leave, and we darn well better have a life carved out for ourselves. We've gone overboard making it all about our kids, so it's time to step out because there really is no wizard behind the green curtain to magically take care of everything. Remember what Glinda said? "You always had the power my dear; you just had to learn it for yourself." This book is a first step in waking the power of Oz. YOUR OZ.

It touches on the predictable, yet unintended consequences that accompany the potentially addictive behaviors and sometimes unwise choices made by a young boy.It also pulls back the curtain on the tumultuous but loving relationship between a father and the son who is growing up and declaring that he is now a man who does not need to listen to his father anymore. The book has beautiful images of life, often captured in memory, but never written down to be remembered. Readers can expect a Vol. II follow up to this book to see how the father and son reconcile and how the young man takes charge of his own life to become the man that God intended him to become.

Pour the Wine
Our adult children are not leading the lives we did. Their lives do not look anything like we might have expected. In Pour the Wine, Gill relates stories and examples of adult kids and their parents attempting to grow into a new form of relationships. You may see yourself and your family in many of these tales. This is not a how-to book. The book reads as if you are sitting with Gill and chatting, sharing stories and pondering, wondering about this new life with children who are trying to become adults. You will learn, you are not alone. The adult children of this generation are not like we were at their age. Gill does the research so we don't have to. She explains some of the unique situations we may find ourselves in. You will feel supported and understood. Without lecturing, Gill outlines some strategies and insightful ways of changing our thinking and our behaviours. Her stories and examples spark conversations within our Sisterhood of Mothers. If you have any desire to build, refresh, improve or strengthen your relationships with your adult children, grab your copy of Pour the Wine, bring together your friends, or book club, and read together. Your conversations will be lively! Enjoy them and inspire each other.
Asperger's Syndrome
"Sensitivity does not necessarily make people overreact to things but maybe it makes them over experience things?" Many of the behaviours demonstrated by autistic people are commonly described as being "challenging." The Girl with the Curly Hair explores what "challenging" really means and finds out that it commonly means being "difficult", "naughty" or other negative descriptions. In this book she considers whether a more accurate description of "challenging" might be "atypical." She feels that sometimes behaviours neurotypical people are not used to can be incorrectly perceived as challenging. She hopes this book will help neurotypical people better understand the autistic person's thoughts that lead to their behaviour. Is that person then seen in a different, more positive light?
