God spared my life, made me sit down, take a look at my life and gave me a new voice. For years I talked about writing a book about my life's adventures but it was easier to talk about it because chatter didn't need to prove that I had any thoughts. Early 2016 I became deathly ill, needing surgery, died twice on the operating table and my caregivers and family wouldn't allow them to give up on me. I wasn't expected to live. I remained in a coma for a month on a ventilator until the hospital transferred me to a Transitional Care Hospital (TCH). My primary doctor and my family refused to pull the plug, refused to lose faith in my recovery... Thank the Lord I woke up before Memorial Day weekend. After hearing details about the ordeal I went through I got busy writing about everything that came to me and this poetry book is the result of my decision to quit procrastinating!
Save My Gunpowder
In his last book entitled 'There was a country, ' the celebrated novelist, Chinua Achebe wrote about his experiences in a country called Biafra. In this present effort, 'Save my Gunpowder, ' Mr. Amechi Oraka has undertaken an interesting foray into that country. In the course of that journey, Oraka met and has chronicled some of the activities of Chukwuemeka Oduemgwu Ojukwu himself.Biafra was a land flowing with milk and honey, but it had some question marks at the spiritual level. In it was found individuals of excellent pedigree like Dr. Gaius Okongwu, Chief Constantine Agbala, etc. It was Dr. Okongwu who ruffled some African leaders at a gathering in the Yamoussoukro Basilica by telling them that it was absolutely impossible for anyone of their ilk to make heaven. He said to the shock of the Ivorian President Houphouet-Boigny, who was present, that it was easier for the proverbial camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a man of wealth and power to make heaven. The author found Brenda and Bruno Imo, and their mother Janet, who could match anyone in planning, plotting, and scheming for the good of her children. He found Drs Lucas and Maureen Azikan whose only daughter, Chitoo, a medical student at the University of Babylon, was killed gruesomely. Nevertheless for them, there was still life after that devastating incident. The author became privy to the 21 military officers and one civilian who wanted power at all cost and by any means possible. They paid dearly for it. He found 'the helper' Mrs. Catherine Ofulue and Chiamaka who gave up on life and set herself ablaze, as well as the randy Dr. Ebenezer Wilcox whose heart suddenly gave up on him. The author applied amazing skill in the portrayal of Excellency 71 to demonstrate that big men other than airs are human like anybody else. He saw the wonderful Obuaku City, and the 22-lane Ogoja/Obuaku City expressway that looked like a glassy blue sea when seen from space. The author became a witness once more, to the natural human inclination to wickedness. This had everything to do with the girl Ogbenye-anu, and the marriage that never was.

The crowd is large, and more than half of it is Black. Most are enslaved African people performing an array of duties, but there are free Africans too, and somebody else: a Black knight astride a horse.Four hundred and fifty years later, novelist and journalist Joaquim Arena stands in a museum, transfixed by the character depicted on this canvas by an anonymous Flemish painter. He doesn't know it yet, but the knight is Joao de S獺 Panasco, a one-time slave who nevertheless became an Afro-Portuguese nobleman.Arena was born in the tiny state of Cape Verde, a small chain of islands off the West Coast of Africa which were uninhabited before Portugal chose them for a slave-trade post―a place made famous in part by Herman Melville's essay on the nature of Cape Verdeans (known as 'Gees') who were common fixtures on whaling vessels. African Literature, Mother Earth and Religion
This book is a collection of essays that explore the intersection of Earth, Gender and Religion in African literary texts. It examines cultural, religious, theological and philosophical traditions, and their construction of perspectives and attitudes about Earth-keeping and gender. This publication is critical given the current global environmental crisis and its impact on African and global communities. The book is multidisciplinary in approach (literary, environmental, theological and sociological), exploring the intersection of African creative work, religion and the environment in their construction of Earth and gender. It presents how the gendered interconnectedness of the natural environment, with its broad spirituality and deep identification with the woman, features prominently in the myths, folklores, legends, rituals, sacred songs and incantations that are explored in this collection. Both male and female writers in the collection laud and accept woman's enduring motif as worker, symbol and guardian of the environment. This interconnectedness mirrors the importance of the environment for the survival of both human and non-human components of Mother Earth. The ideology of women's agency is emphasised and reinforced by ecofeminist theologians; namely those viewing African women as active agents working closely with the environment and not as subordinates. In the context of the environmental crisis the nurturing role of women should be bolstered and the rich African traditions that conserved the environment preserved. The book advocates the re-engagement of women, particularly their knowledge and conservation techniques and how these can become reservoirs of dying traditions. This volume offers recorded traditions in African literary texts, thereby connecting gender, religion and the environment and helpful perspectives in Earth-keeping.

"aubade at night or serenade in the morning" investigates the etymology of Nigeria's notoriety for systemic corruption and insecurity. It narrates how the nation is scarred by episodes of terrorist attacks leaving a number of families broken forever; revealing its major actors as corrupt, inept leaders and the Boko Haram insurgent groups. It x-rays how lawlessness brings the nation to its knee and confronts the persecution of citizens by the Police who should protect them.Furthermore, while underscoring the Nigerianness of the people, the collection goes deeply into the demystification of fate and grief, narrates the plights of boy child amidst the burden placed upon them and how they are abandoned while placing focus on the girl child. Zimbolicious Anthology: An Anthology of Zimbabwean Literature and Arts is the 6th yearly volume of Zimbabwean Literature and the arts. This year's anthology is extra-special in that we feature Zimbabwe's upcoming young visual artists who recently won or got highly recommended and exhibited their artworks through the National Art Gallery, in a competition sponsored by Morgan & Co and in association of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. These artworks varies from installation, mixed media, drawings, paintings and tackled the issue of being "Masked", resultant of Covid 19 pandemic. These artworks are accompanied by Tinashe Muchuri's illuminating critical reception essay. Chrispah Munyoro's artworks are personal and are of struggle, and Tendai Rinos Mwanaka's artworks deal with a number of issues such as US racism, the issue of Jihad terrorism, climate change and global warming. The poetry section tackles a gamut of issues from governance, spirituality, environmentalism, love, relationships, etc... and the fiction section has 4 bittersweet short stories dealing with illegal mining mob deaths (Mathew T Chikono), coming of age love story (Christopher Kudyahakudadirwe), a slice of bus travelogue (Nicole Kazembe), writing mother's body (Oscar Gwiriri). The nonfiction has two essays; Chipo Martha Bute deals with a personal journey to discovery and worthiness and Tendai Rinos Mwanaka deals with Zimbabwe's politics.

A Little Bit of Love’s Magic
A young woman finds the person her heart desires with the help of a bit of magic. Noura is a young I.T. consultant whose weak point is her family. She is at that age when the pressure to get married has hit a new high, but she is not in love with her current boyfriend of three years. After losing a bet, she has to pay a visit to a babalawo in order to obtain a love charm. Despite initial scepticism, Noura follows through with the bet and obtains a charm that is supposed to lead her to true love. The instructions are straightforward, "use this charm and the first person you encounter afterwards will be the love of your life". The only issue is that the first person Noura sees is another woman. Bewaji has just moved back to her family home after almost a decade in the United Kingdom. She is looking for nothing more than a haven where she can relax, paint and not think about the row that was the reason she left in the first place. Of course nothing goes as planned, barely a week since Bewaji has returned and her father is trying to play matchmaker. There is also the matter of the gorgeous Noura who seems to believe that she is in love with Bewaji.
Pelong YA Ka
Pelong ya Ka, a collection of essays and sketches in Sotho was first published in 1962 in the Bantu Treasury Series imprint of Witwatersrand University Press. S. Machabe Mofokeng is regarded as one of the greatest essayist and dramatist in Southern Sotho. His first book, Senkatana (a play) was published in 1952. Pelong ya Ka comprises 20 essays which range from meditative, descriptive, and narrative to polemic style, with the tone of voice characterised by melancholy, humour, and satire. The essays span over a wide range of themes, as suggested by their titles, e.g. Pelo (The heart), Bodutu ('Solitude'), Death ('Lefu'), Nako ('Time'), Pampiri ('Paper'), Ho kganna mmotokara ('Driving an automobile'), Sepetlele ('Hospital'), Lenyalo ('Matromony'), and Boqheku ('Old age'). Nhlanhla Maake says of this collection "Mofokeng's essays fuse simplicity with dept." Pelong ya Ka is part of the African Treasury Series published by Wits University Press.

Poetry is fragments of music thrown into the air. The primary job and aim of a poet is to create these musical notes, to play these musical notes, and the wind will take these fragment notes, sounds, musics into the ears of listeners. Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology, Volume 2 is one of those winds among many others. As we all are aware of, when the wind travels it has no boundaries, it collects, it deposits, it mixes things up; you never know where that leaf you see the wind carrying will eventually be deposited, is there another wind, another element that is going to move that leaf to another place... We firmly believe it is a good wind. It will be able to push our poetry making in Zimbabwe into other frontiers. Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology, Volume 2 continues from where we left off with the first Zimbolicious Poetry Anthology we created in 2016. In this Volume 2, we have 77 poems from 30 poets and translators, which include among others; experienced poets, academic poets, street poets, emergent poets, beginning poets, all telling stories associated with what all these poets refer to as home, that is, Zimbabwe. It is an ongoing debate on what is Zimbabwe, what we want our Zimbabwe to be socially, culturally, politically..., thus we allowed every opinion space in this anthology, whether us editors agree with them or not. Shaping Up
Shaping Up is more personal and intimate than the author's previous works. The poems and images reflect a period while he was living outside of Zimbabwe, in South Africa. The immigrant experience gives the work a more personal, closed, abstracted feel driven by loneliness of the exilitic condition. Living in the element, uninhibited and careless can help deal with confounding, controversial issues more easily, this theme can be dissected from the drawings to do with sex, sexuality and gender issues. The line breaks, whirls, thins out, sometimes is bold, sometimes is barely there, thus the drawings straddle the tenuousness of time and life.

I miss my husband's girlfriends.Whenever he was having an affair, he became a new man; more witty, more talkative, and friendlier. He shaved daily and traded his frayed underwear for snug boxer briefs. Whenever they broke up with him, I suffered with him as he would always, somehow, take it out on me and turn my life and our home into a living hell. Even our dismal sex life was affected. Call it the guilty husband syndrome, but a few years ago, I discovered that whenever we were intimate, it meant he was going to be intimate with someone else the very next day. But even that stopped years ago. My marriage had come to a point where I was happier when he was happy in his extramarital affairs' I know it sounds weird. I used to see it that way too, but I don't anymore. If you are the type of wife that believe that women should be the weaker vessels, you get to a point where the only thing you want is peace. If other women make your husband happy enough to make him leave you alone and not call you names, you no longer see the situation as strange. In fact, you even begin to thank those women for it.That Saturday as I watched my husband mope around the house, looking like the weight of the world was on his shoulders, I suspected that some errant girlfriend had caused his current malady. Perhaps, she had found out he was married with kids, or had grown bored with him and decided to look for some other lover, maybe even someone younger. Unity in Flight
This volume was our first anthology of fiction (2001)and included work by writers who had been published in the Botsotso literary journal. The themes reflect the turmoil of the 1980's and the new issues raised in the 90's. Maropodi Mapalakanye's stories focus on the political-military struggle against apartheid with an emphasis on the deadly 'twists of fate' that insurrection spawns with regard to the need to resist and its collateral damage to oppressed people. Peter Rule deals with more personal issues such as the anguish of rape and homophobic violence, the devastation of AIDS and the trauma of surviving police interrogation. Zachariah Rapola brings a surreal and tragic touch to stories about lonely misfits in Alexandria, Joburg's oldest African township. Michael Vines, on the other hand, writes about arty white suburban youth whose alienation is just as acute despite their wealthier environment. Phaswane Mpe's stories all foreshadow his novel Welcome to our Hillbrow which also deals with student life in Johannesburg and the ramifications of the Aids epidemic. Lastly, Kolski Horwitz touches on both the general political landscape of decolonization and internal corruption within the liberation movements as well as the shifting tides of sexual behaviour.
