American Notes for General Circulation, is many of the old books which have been considered important throughout the human history. They are now extremely scarce and very expensive antique. So that this work is never forgotten we republish these books in high quality, using the original text and artwork so that they can be preserved for the present and future generations. This whole book has been reformatted, retyped and designed. These books are not made of scanned copies of their original work and hence the text is clear and readable.
The Adventures of Carolina Moon
Contained within these pages are the true-life stories of an African American family conditioned by racism, but inspired by love, heartbreak, courage and resilience, told through the eyes of a daughter. There are extraordinary narratives about ordinary, and some not so ordinary people, that you may not have ever heard. If these stories were accessible to you, wouldn't you want to hear them? For instance, like the expression of art, or the art of conversation where participants share information. If not, would this mean that these narratives aren't entertaining or valid? I am the descendent of African Slaves from South Carolina, but eminence before that. This information was not included in my educational curriculum growing up in the United States, I had to find it out for myself. In a quest for additional knowledge and understanding, thereof. I have journeyed back to Africa, traveled abroad to Europe, visited California, Mexico, and several Caribbean Islands including but not limited to Barbados and Puerto Rico. What I found was Myself. These stories emerge and continue to influence my world view, unknowingly to many, an original view. As a former English Professor, and writer, it is my mission to recount such stories adding splendor and authenticity to the fabric of world history.

My readers have opportunities of judging for themselves whether the influences and tendencies which I distrusted in America, had, at that time, any existence but in my imagination. They can examine for themselves whether there has been anything in the public career of that country since, at home or abroad, which suggests that those influences and tendencies really did exist. As they find the fact, they will judge me. If they discern any evidences of wrong-going, in any direction that I have indicated, they will acknowledge that I had reason in what I wrote. I have many friends in America, I feel a grateful interest in the country, I hope and believe it will successfully work out a problem of the highest importance to the whole human race. To represent me as viewing AMERICA with ill-nature, coldness, or animosity, is merely to do a very foolish thing: which is always a very easy one.
Meaty Pleasures
In 2014, one of my students returned from Mexico with a gift for me: a collection by M籀nica Lav穩n. Those stories -- including Ladies Bar, which is in this book - explored the fraught terrain of love, sex, desire, obsession, and fantasy and they were the most visceral and unabashedly physical tales by a Hispanic woman I had ever read. They wounded me, wonderfully. But Monica's books were hard to find in the U.S., and none of them had been translated into English.M籀nica Lav穩n has published ten novels, twelve collections, three works of YA fiction, and five nonfiction books; she has won some of Mexico's most important literary honors, including the Elena Poniatowska Ibero-american Novel Prize (2010). The present collection introduces her to an English-language readership. I have selected stories originally published in several different collections, those that left the deepest mark on me for their unflinching gaze at human desire and the body. M籀nica's characters tread the slender, permeable borders between parent and child, stranger and lover, have and have-not, male and female. We peer into their wounds and see reflected there our own pain and passion. These stories are not for the faint of heart -- but they are for those with heart.I hope my translations possess the grace of both the original texts and their author. Barbados Ah Come From
Barbados Ah Come From is a must read for every Bajan. The book creatively provides vivid images of living and growing up in Barbados especially in the 1960s and 1970s.
