Two Plays

Alan,Dent  著
Ingram 出版
2022/11/21 出版

Two plays about financial goings on in the oil industry. The world is run by the rich. Their influence over government policy in the so-called democracies is far greater than the voters'. Elsewhere, there isn't even a pretence that aren't in control. They defy the law and are praised for it. They are embraced by politicians who claim to represent the people. Yet where are they in literature? In drama, the kitchen sink movement kicked off the trend of focusing on the lives of the poor, the working-class, the common folk. Once excluded from drawing-room drama, it was assumed that bringing their experience to the stage would alert social conscience. Decades of this doesn't seem to have slowed the slither rightwards. Meanwhile, in literature, the rich are more or less invisible. Their way of thinking is unexplored. By and large, the people who rule the world are absent from the stage.

Society, Suspicious

Ingram 出版
2022/11/20 出版

Let's excise our old, unpleasant, burdensome history. Let's invent an American past we can rally around and get back to that place. Let's bring back Fonzie and those Happy Days. Or get us back some 1864, and some all-out Civil War. It's your choice, America. Go back or move forward. Human rights or nationalism. Freedom or slavery. Truth, progress and democracy or fantasy, fairy tales and fascism. Save the planet, or slave away under the heat of an angry Mother Earth stripped of her rights and soon to be denied birth control. And oh my, here comes a lonely, superfly Father Sky. He too, is unprotected. We're all unprotected. Society, Suspicious is an experimental, genre-bending novel told by a sometimes insufferable, yet well-meaning, hilarious, formerly dead, formerly narcissistic poet, music idol and antithetical Quixote, fabricating imaginary social media windmills, and seeking revenge on America by starting a cult through conspiracy culminating with an insurrection on 1/6/21 at the wrong building.

Notes From Underground

Ingram 出版
2022/11/18 出版

Notes from Undergroundalso translated as"Notes from the Underground" or "Letters from the Underworld"is an 1864 novella by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and is considered by many to be one of the first existentialist novels. Notes from the Underground is a fictional, first-person confession told by a hateful, hyper-conscious man living underground who is a retired civil servant living in St. Petersburg. The first part of the story is told in monologue form through the Underground Man's diary, and attacks contemporary Russian philosophy, especially Nikolay Chernyshevsky's What Is to Be Done?.[2] The second part of the book is called ""Apropos of the Wet Snow"" and describes certain events that appear to be destroying and sometimes renewing the underground man, who acts as a first person, unreliable narrator and anti-hero.

A Man, A Ghost

T,Seidenburg  著
Ingram 出版
2022/11/07 出版

To whom do we owe our intended good nature? Where do we scrape the courage to engage others in cynical pursuits? Arnold Esche, the sole possessor of an acclaimed media giant guides his readers and woefully employed into a world that all believe to recognize indiscriminately. Social cues force these characters into navigating instances where residents of detached thought and action clash and splatter their ideals together to produce a murky outcome of delicate proportions. Enclosed are pieces and fragments of events that have taken place in the world of the esteemed Mr. Esche. Created to be read by the fantastic character of the 'American Aristocrat' readers will be taken through the fortnight leading up to a cataclysmic event that young/adults can surely resonate with in the trying times of infinite change that are constantly upon them. Not only does this CEO of a prosperous company affect an all too willing crowd, but we also catch a glimpse of his personal relationships; simply one person engaging one other. In turn, he will relay his inadvertent motivations to the greater environment.

Fraud President

Rob,Bryant  著
Ingram 出版
2022/11/04 出版

From world-renowned motivational speaker and Guinness World Record holder Dr. Rob Bryant comes an eye-opening novel that blends meticulous research with gripping fiction to expose the potential vulnerabilities in America's election systems. Drawing from hundreds of hours of exhaustive investigation into battleground state elections, "Fraud President" weaves together real-world court cases, actual news reports, and documented voting system weaknesses into a fictional narrative that reads like tomorrow's headlines. Through engaging storytelling, Bryant illuminates over 25 specific vulnerabilities in current election laws-weaknesses that, by design, could be virtually impossible to detect. While the characters and plot are fictional, the foundation of this political thriller is built upon Bryant's thorough analysis of state election laws, court proceedings, and verified incidents of electoral irregularities. The result is a compelling story that entertains while raising serious questions about election integrity. Written by a distinguished academic with a PhD and extensive experience as a business analyst, "Fraud President" brings analytical rigor to a topic often clouded by partisan rhetoric. Bryant's unique background-from corporate vice presidency to college professor, from paralysis survivor to cross-country rowing champion-lends both authority and inspiration to this meticulously researched work. This isn't just another political novel-it's a wake-up call about the potential fragility of our democratic systems, informed by real-world evidence and presented through the lens of compelling fiction. About the AuthorDr. Rob Bryant is a renaissance man whose extraordinary life journey infuses his writing with unique authority and inspiration. After surviving a devastating 55-foot fall that left him paralyzed from the waist down, he defied medical odds to walk again with braces and crutches-then went on to set a Guinness World Record by rowing 3,280 miles from Los Angeles to Washington DC. As a distinguished academic and business leader, Dr. Bryant has served as a college professor, corporate Vice President, and business analyst. His insights and inspiring story have reached audiences at over 500 schools, colleges, churches, and organizations, garnering coverage from every major television network, over 200 newspapers, and 25 magazines nationwide. His work has earned accolades from an impressive array of leaders, including President George W. Bush, First Lady Barbara Bush, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, legendary Cowboys coach Tom Landry, and motivational icon Zig Ziglar. As the author of four books and father of two U.S. Marines, Dr. Bryant brings both scholarly rigor and patriotic passion to his examination of America's electoral systems.

Factory Girls

Algonquin 出版
2022/11/03 出版

A funny, fierce, and unforgettable read about a young woman working a summer job in a shirt factory in Northern Ireland, while tensions rise both inside and outside the factory walls. Winner of the Comedy Women in Print 2022-23 Published Novel Award It's the summer of 1994, and all smart-mouthed Maeve Murray wants are good final exam results so she can earn her ticket out of the wee Northern Irish town she has grown up in during the Troubles. She hopes she will soon be in London studying journalism--away from her crowded home, the silence and sadness surrounding her sister's death, and most of all, away from the violence of her divided community. As a first step, Maeve's taken a job in a shirt factory working alongside Protestants with her best friends. But getting the right exam results is only part of Maeve's problem--she's got to survive a tit-for-tat paramilitary campaign, iron 100 shirts an hour all day every day, and deal with the attentions of Handy Andy Strawbridge, her slick and untrustworthy English boss. Then, as the British loyalist marching season raises tensions among the Catholic and Protestant workforce, Maeve realizes something is going on behind the scenes at the factory. What seems to be a great opportunity to earn money turns out to be a crucible in which Maeve faces the test of a lifetime. Seeking justice for herself and her fellow workers may just be Maeve's one-way ticket out of town. Bitingly hilarious, clear-eyed, and steeped in the vernacular of its time and place, Factory Girls tackles questions of wealth and power, religion and nationalism, and how young women maintain hope for themselves and the future during divided, violent times. Shortlisted for the 2023 Royal Society of Literature Encore Award (for second novels) and the Christopher Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize

Unleashing America's Potential

Ingram 出版
2022/11/02 出版

Our Government was founded as a democratic Republic and the US Constitution was established to ensure the majority of citizen's were represented in Washington and to protect the minority. Unfortunately, our Republic has been effectively replaced with a two-party system of government that is a purely partisan democracy. The result is that little is done for the majority of the citizens. The majority of the population, those commonly referred to as "The Silent Majority", are no longer represented in Washington. I further believe that the time has come for a third political party to be formed that will represent them and force compromise. This book was written about the establishment, and rise, of a new third political party that succeeds in breaking the partisan gridlock and unleashing America's potential.

A Movement is Born

Lulu.com 出版
2022/10/20 出版

In the last four years of the 20th century, George Burton throws himself into the Herculean task of transforming his newly form organization, the National Association for a Populist America into a nation-wide movement that's determined to remake the conservative movement into a populist-nationalist movement, with the goal of preventing the United States from sinking into the cesspool of socialism. He and a cadre of dedicated followers that he gathered around him tirelessly begin the organization the N.A.P.A. in all fifty states. The conservatives are the first to attack his new movement's activist program of challenging the left on the streets through demonstrations and counter-demonstration and its anti-free trade and anti-globalist program. Burton studies the radical tactics of the left and is determined to use them against his opponents. He organizes professional demonstrators that make-up his Minutemen Militia, and builds-up a highly disciplined intelligence network using the most advance computer technology to collect compromising information to threaten and blackmail elected officials into supporting him. His Minutemen begins a campaign of breaking up leftist assemblies, meetings and rallies, confronting them on the streets of America, stopping them from causing havoc and mayhem by marching through middle class neighbors and challenging leftist leaders and organizations with thousands of lawsuits, and a campaign of harassment, intimidation and threats. He charges the conservative establishment as too cowardly to confront those who deny patriotic Americans their civil rights and that one has to fight fire with fire, using the leftists' own tactics against them. By the turn of the century his N.A.P.A. is rapidly growing into a political force that cannot be ignored. Burton warnings about of an inpending collapse of the United States economy which proves to be farsighted. Just as the world is about to enter the 21st century, it is plunged into the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Tales of American Idiocy

Ingram 出版
2022/10/19 出版

"Soon the humans will all wear muzzles and be chained to their homes by their great glowing boxes!" This announcement by Chester stopped the meeting of the pets of Sunnyside Street cold. Not that they were surprised by the neighborhood conspiracy cat. Chester was full of odd ideas, most of which he announced at inopportune moments. Chester would turn out to be right about COVID, but he is just one of many Orwellian critters and supernatural shorts populating these Tales of American Idiocy, a darkly humorous collection of short stories commemorating the early 2020's. Here you'll find President Brandon's sketch election. Dwight the alligator will fight forced COVID injections. Delilah the deer's own "Dr. Foxi," gets his just deserts, and Black Lizards definitely Matter. Will Chester and friends' warnings make repeating the early 2020s unthinkable? If you like clever allegories, not-so-crazy conspiracies', and darkly humorous satire, you'll love Tales of American idiocy, a work Bookviral calls: "A cuttingly Allegorical Read!" P.R. Infidel is a citizen of the United States of America who writes for fun. She is a professional, a Christian, and for now, that is all she can reveal about herself due to the controversial nature of her work.

The Jungle (Read & Co. Classics Edition)

Ingram 出版
2022/09/27 出版

One of twentieth-century America's most politically influential novels, The Jungle is Upton Sinclair's hard-hitting expos矇 of the meat-packing industry. Journalist and novelist Upton Sinclair was a known muckraker who used his work to expose the horrific underbelly of the American government in the early 1900s. The Jungle is the fictional story of Jurgis Rudkus and his wife, Ona Lukoszaite. The couple immigrated to Chicago from Lithuania in the hopes of living the American Dream. Instead, they are met by the hardship and tragedy that awaited so many immigrants at the time. Jurgis secures a job in the meat-packing industry and quickly realises the disgusting treatment of animals and the horrendous working conditions that led to many injuries and deaths. Prior to writing the powerful novel, Sinclair spent seven weeks working in the Chicago meat-packing industry. He used his research to expose the corrupt factories in his writing. Originally published in serial form in 1905 for Appeal to Reason, the socialist newspaper, The Jungle was published as a book in 1906. The novel caused such public outcry that Sinclair's work played a large part in the introduction of the 1906 Meat Inspection Act in the US. Read & Co. Classics has proudly republished this volume for the enjoyment of fans of socialist literature and those interested in the history of America's meat industry.

The essays are short, easily accessible, pointed and penetrating on topics that confront LGBTQ people today. From the question of coming out to the issue of teen-age suicides among LGBTQ youth and, of course, to the achievement of marriage equality and its effect on all of us, these essays discuss tactics and strategy-all from the perspective of a queer man right at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It never forgets the history of LGBTQ people or the LGBTQ people who were damaged and are continuing to be damaged by the action of the bigoted and the ignorant.

Anthem

Ayn,Rand  著
Ingram 出版
2022/08/24 出版

Ayn Rand published her book, Anthem, in 1946. In the included foreword she provided, she bemoaned "people who accept collectivism by moral default" despite there being ample evidence of the bloody consequences of that approach. "Those who refuse to see it now are neither blind nor innocent." Sadly, though some seventy years have passed, that evidence has only accumulated and compounded, heaping body upon body, bones upon bones, mass graves over other mass graves. And yet, even now, 'collective' ideologies are still accepted as the 'moral default.' Ayn Rand's prescient book, Anthem, was a warning. But it was a warning unheeded, leaving us to wonder if there is any genocidal calamity that could take place that could shake the foundations of the inclination towards collectivism that we remain awash in.

He only accepts that climate change is real when he realises he can make money out of dealing with it.Struck down by a near-fatal brain tumour, he is put into hibernation until a treatment can be found for his condition.Revived in the year 2100, he finds himself living in a very different world from the one that we are used to. Even the social mores are different.During his long sleep, the world economic order collapsed. People have banded together to organise themselves into communities. For them, beyond providing for the basic necessities, the accumulation of wealth has been replaced by quality-of-life issues, such as being part of their community and taking care of a planet ravaged by climate change. Can James adjust to this new way of life? Can he still put his entrepreneurial skills to good use? Can he find love, and track down what has happened to the people in his past? Can the people of 2100, who blame the people of our time for causing global warming, learn to accept this man?And where, amongst a people whose cuisine is plain but wholesome, can he get a decent Big Mac and french fries?

It Could Happen Here -

J F,Cronin  著
Iuniverse 出版
2022/08/18 出版

Eric King the CEO of International Surveillance, Security and Construction, ISSAC, received a call from Wilbur Barron, the president of the United States, requesting that he attend a meeting at the National Golf Club. Barron was vague but hinted that he needed King's business expertise in planning an election year strategy. King wasn't surprised by the call. The president always sought advice from friends outside of his staff. Barron didn't mention it openly, but those who worked for him knew he had a basic distrust of people who were attached to the system and worked for government paychecks. He wanted input from people whose wealth freed them from having to worry about their next government stipend and leaned on his rich friends for all sorts of tasks and advice. He vested some with cabinet level decision making powers without ever having to run them before congress for confirmation. Cabinet members and the presidential staff knew the president's friends could overturn their decisions with a phone call and of all the members of the president's kitchen cabinet, King was the most heavily relied on. He undertook jobs for Barron that were unadvertised, sometimes shady, and he was secretive enough never to let the press know what he was doing.

Road Not Taken? - Imperium in Imperio & the Hindered Hand

E-Artnow 出版
2022/06/01 出版

In "ROAD NOT TAKEN? - Imperium in Imperio & The Hindered Hand," Sutton E. Griggs deftly intertwines social commentary with narrative innovation, exploring themes of racial identity, leadership, and self-determination in the early 20th century. Griggs employs a robust literary style that melds realism with elements of speculative fiction, crafting a dual narrative that probes the complexities of African American experiences during a time of profound sociopolitical upheaval. The intertextual dialogue established between these two works serves as a poignant reflection on the diverging paths of racial uplift and societal resistance, pushing readers to reckon with the implications of choice and agency within a constrained societal framework. Sutton E. Griggs, an influential African American author and activist, drew inspiration from his personal experiences and the historical context of post-Reconstruction America. Griggs's commitment to civil rights and his academic background as a well-educated preacher shaped his perspective, empowering him to articulate the struggles and aspirations of Black Americans. His literary contributions are often overshadowed by contemporaries, yet they remain significant in the canon of African American literature, capturing the zeitgeist of a tumultuous era. Highly recommended for scholars, students, and general readers alike, "ROAD NOT TAKEN?" invites thoughtful examination of Griggs's profound insights into race and identity. This collection not only enriches our understanding of the literary landscape but also serves as a vital reminder of the historical struggles that continue to resonate in contemporary discussions of race and social justice.

Run and Hide

Picador USA 出版
2022/04/10 出版

"Pankaj Mishra transforms a visceral, intimate story of one man's humble origins into a kaleidoscopic portrait of a society bedazzled by power and wealth--what it means on a human level, and what it costs. Run and Hide is a spectacular, illuminating work of fiction." --Jennifer Egan, author of Manhattan Beach Growing up in a small railway town, Arun always dreamed of escape. His acceptance to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, enabled through great sacrifice by his low-caste parents, is seemingly his golden ticket out of a life plagued by everyday cruelties and deprivations. At the predominantly male campus, he meets two students from similar backgrounds. Unlike Arun--scarred by his childhood, and an uneasy interloper among go-getters--they possess the sheer will and confidence to break through merciless social barriers. The alumni of IIT eventually go on to become the financial wizards of their generation, working hard and playing hard from East Hampton to Tuscany--the beneficiaries of unprecedented financial and sexual freedom. But while his friends play out Gatsby-style fantasies, Arun fails to leverage his elite education for social capital. He decides to pursue the writerly life, retreating to a small village in the Himalayas with his aging mother. Arun's modest idyll is one day disrupted by the arrival of a young woman named Alia, who is writing an expos矇 of his former classmates. Alia, beautiful and sophisticated, draws Arun back to the prospering world where he must be someone else if he is to belong. When he is implicated in a terrible act of violence committed by his closest friend from IIT, Arun will have to reckon with the person he has become. Run and Hide is Pankaj Mishra's powerful story of achieving material progress at great moral and emotional cost. It is also the story of a changing country and global order, and the inequities of class and gender that map onto our most intimate relationships.
