Jessie explains how to create your own seasonal story throughout the book so you can chart your year and mark any memorable occasions or events that you want to include, making it a wonderful memory book for a loved one or a family heirloom to be passed from generation to generation. The central theme of the project is the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, and there are four seasonal hand drawn motifs on iron-on transfer paper that can be used as the basis of the designs. The four seasonal motifs are accompanied by four further motifs which are intended for the inside and outside covers. As well as sewing techniques including scattered applique as a form of drawing and simple patchwork. The Doodle Knit Directory
A practical guide to 'doodling' with knitted colorwork designs. Readers can choose their favorite charts from the 200 different designs and then mix and match them to create unique projects. They can then combine them in any way they like, repeat their favorite designs, change the colorways and generally have fun 'doodling' with them. All of the charts work together so readers can have lots of fun exploring the endless options and making up their own combinations, playing with colors, adding in plain rows in between the charted rows and generally getting creative. There are instructions for how to use the charts across all the patterns - they all have the same stitch count and work across each of the 9 projects which include a range of accessories such as cowls, scarves, hats and mittens. Doodle knitting is all about having fun with pattern - choose your favorite motifs and create your own combinations. The 9 patterns have specific suggestions for pattern combinations but author, Jamie Lomax, explains how to modify all the projects to create your own versions. The patterns only combine two colors on each row so it's suitable for beginners to colorwork and because it's done on a small scale it's a great way for absolute beginners to try their hand at colorwork, but the large selection of patterns and designs means that more advanced knitters will have plenty to inspire them. The 200 designs are presented seasonally and there are a wide range of motifs including everything from flowers, leaves and mushrooms through to squirrels, sheep and other birds and animals. As well as the motifs there are abstract designs that can be interspersed to break up the patterns and create interest so you can have endless doodling fun.

Retractable Sea Kayak Skeg
This retractable kayak skeg was designed by Nick Schade and is the result of years of experimentation and testing. It has proved to be reliable and effective after almost 10 years of hard use.Features: - Efficient Surf-Board Fin Design- Positive Low Profile Control- Fits Under Low Back Decks- No External Lines - No Tangling or Snagging- Virtually Jam and Kink Proof.- Professional AppearanceMost production skegs are notorious for jamming and kinking and generally proving unreliable. This design has several design ideas that contribute to its reliability. The skeg is offset from the keel line to keep it out of the sand and gravel when landing and launching. The control cable is supported so if the skeg is forced up, the cable will not buckle and kink. The tight places where sand or gravel may get stuck are either high up in the skeg box so sand rarely gets there or close enough to the pivot point that the control cable has plenty of leverage to overcome any friction.Including full size drawings of all the parts and complete instructions for how to make it. The plans are intended for construction from marine plywood reinforced with fiberglass and epoxy, but any thin flat material such as fiberglass or carbon fiber panels may be used

The Grapes Didn't Know it Was Pennsylvania
In 1991, the J. Maki Winery at French Creek Ridge Vineyards in Pennsylvania was born. Just ten years later, this humble venture was honored with the most prestigious award in the industry: the gold medal for the world's best champagne in Paris, France. How does a small, northern winery beat out all the wineries in France, Italy, and California? This book chronicles the story of Janet Maki whose fascination with plants took root during her childhood summers spent on her grandmother's farm in Ohio. This early childhood enchantment grew as she honed laboratory skills in medical research at the University of Pennsylvania. She began exploring winemaking when a college friend started a vineyard in New York's Finger Lakes. Each harvest, she joined the grape-picking frenzy, pressed the grapes, and took the grapes home for late night winemaking experiments. With every batch, her knowledge and passion for the craft deepened. Naturally, Janet's next step was to begin her own vineyard. This fascinating journey from those idyllic summer days to the glittering recognition of J. Maki Winery on the world's stage is a story of passion, relentless experimentation, and the pursuit of excellence and the American dream.

"You're So Talented"
When Barbara Klar created her first piece of jewelry 50 years ago, she had no idea of the journey that lay before her. The entire process of designing and making "art to wear" intrigued Barbara-from the challenge of developing a vocabulary of skills to her participation in the entire history and tradition of metalsmithing. In 1979, upon moving to NYC with her first participation in a group show at Robert Lee Morris's "ArtWear" Gallery in SoHo, Barbara was introduced into a whole new concept that jewelry could be artistic, fashionable, wearable & saleable on a small production basis. Elements of fashion and history are fused into her designs. Influences from cultures such as Celtic, Egyptian and Native American as well as Contemporary Street Graffiti often come into play. Barbara's work has been worn by rock stars, featured in print, television and film and even worn to the Oscars & Cannes. Today, she creates Modern Heirlooms in her studio in Woodstock, NY. Within these pages is the story of Barbara's journey. There are bumps and failures, successes and rejections. It goes like this: "If I had a quarter for every time I heard 'You're so Talented' in my life, I'd be a wealthy woman. When I moved to NYC from Cleveland in 1979, I was fresh out of art school, completely unprepared and na簿ve. I pounded the pavement with my portfolio under my arm and looked for work in my craft. Eventually I started a business and now I say 'Talent' is only 5% of what it takes to be successful, let alone be happy. Today, success is not what I imagined it to be in 1979."
