The LEGO Technic Idea Book
The LEGO(R) Technic Idea Book: Simple Machines is a collection of hundreds of working examples of simple yet fascinating Technic models that you can build based on their pictures alone. Each project uses color-coded pieces and is photographed from multiple angles, making it easy to see how the models are assembled without the need for step-by-step instructions. Every model illustrates a different principle, concept, or mechanism that will inspire your own original creations. You're encouraged to use these elements as building blocks to create your own masterpieces. The Technic models in Simple Machines demonstrate basic configurations of gears, shafts, pulleys, turntables, connectors, and the like. You'll learn how to create small, elegant machines like cranes, operable doors, motorized cars, a rubber band-powered rocket launcher, a hand-cranked drag racer, and even musical instruments. This visual guide, the first in the three-volume LEGO Technic Idea Book series, is the brainchild of master builder Yoshihito Isogawa of Tokyo, Japan. Each title is filled with photos of Isogawa's unique models, all of which are designed to fire the imaginations of LEGO builders young and old. Imagine. Create. Invent. Now, what will you build? NOTE: The LEGO Technic Idea Book series uses parts from various Technic sets. If you don't have some of the pieces shown in a particular model, experiment by substituting your own parts or visit the author's website for a list of the special parts used in the book.

A Garden of Herbs
During the early part of the 20th century, a small group of women had a lasting-and, considering their number, perhaps oversized-influence on the public's interest in growing and using herbs. At the time, hedgerows and stream verges were still tangled with wildflowers, but stories about plants were drifting into obscurity, and common use of herbs was being supplanted by the busyness and conveniences of modern life. Fortunately, just as the pace of change was set to accelerate, one of those women, Eleanour Sinclair Rohde, helped to preserve a link to the old knowledge through her many books and articles.A Garden of Herbs, first published in 1920, was presented as a small handbook for anyone interested in growing and using herbs as they had been generations before. Rohde hoped that herbs would once again be more widely grown, and she believed that even a small city or suburban garden provided the opportunity to recreate a version of the old-fashioned herb garden. Her book, A Garden of Herbs, begins with some examples of knot garden designs and then presents individual profiles of over seventy herbs-some that are familiar as well as some that are rarely grown in our gardens or used in the kitchen anymore. Also included are five chapters of recipes for soups and salads, drinks and desserts, perfumed waters, powders and pomanders-and more, gleaned from old stillroom books, age-old herbals and a wealth of other historical books and manuscripts noted in the bibliography.

Dovetails is a comprehensive guide to the hand-tool preparation of dovetail joinery. The Nature of Fashion
"One of our favorite reads of 2025." Dressed: History of Fashion Podcast Named one of the best fashion books of 2025 by Fashionista If plants have shaped fashion's past, couldn't they hold the secret to its future? Vivid, celebratory, impassioned and angry, The Nature of Fashion is an epic sweep through the history of how we learned to create clothing with plants, revealing how textiles have transformed the human world and our natural landscape. More than just a story about plant-based fashion, The Nature of Fashion chronicles the plant stewards, obsessives, innovators and profiteers who have shaped what we wear. It is about the clash of worlds, voracious exploitation and silenced voices; about devotion, passion, blindness, idealism, greed and how clothing has separated us from nature. Told through intimate vignettes into this past, each person, people group, plant and place is a thread in the fabric of the book, forging connections across place and time. And like weaving, as the story strands weave in and out, the pattern slowly emerges. As the centuries unfold, we meet plants from every continent and understand the human stories of origin, culture and community. We see people and countries interact through trade, conflict, human and land exploitation and the age-old struggle for riches and power. The stories of yesterday find their echoes in today. In every culture and every place, each plant is part of an ecosystem, and we see how the choices we once made shape landscapes and economies today.Amidst human folly shine strands of hope and resilience, cultures that have maintained their textile traditions, human artistry that works in rhythm with the natural world and innovators who are finding new ways to produce fibres and dyes. For thousands of years our clothes have been made by working with nature, not against it. Fashion is at a turning point - to look forward, we need to look back.

The Magic of Chelsea - A Flower Show Like No Other - 2025
Another year has passed, and we have had another trip to the Chelsea Flower Show. Unlike last year, the weather was a typical late spring day without a cloud in the sky, and now here we have the newest edition of the 'Magic of Chelsea' 2025.Since we had booked our tickets early for this year, we managed to secure two passes for Day 2, which is reserved for members of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), of which we are members. As with our previously published Magic of Chelsea books, this one is also published with those in mind who cannot visit the event but would love to, as well as those who did see the show and want to cherish their memories. We are now bringing this book to you.The exhibits and flowers, and possibly due to the beautiful spring weather, were spectacular. The flowers were glistening in the lovely morning sun, and everything looked fresh and sparkling. There is no doubt about it; with enthusiasm and excitement filling the air, we were out to have a good time, and that's precisely what we did.The people attending enjoyed a day full of fun, and that's precisely what took place. Happy faces, laughter, and everyone having a great time - it was a very special moment shared, and we're fortunate to have been part of it. Now that I am back in Australia, we have shared our experiences, which have enabled me to write this latest book. From stunning floral displays, various flowers and plants in the Great Pavilion, to remarkable pieces of creative sculpture, all were showcased at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.My enthusiasm never falters for the appreciation of the art displayed. From sculptures to the exotic plants and flowers, all of which bring home to me the skills, talent, and determination that so many people have to fulfil their dreams of creating and delivering their beautiful exhibits at the Chelsea Flower Show.It is through reflection and working on this book that I celebrate the treasured moments spent and the gratitude now felt, while the nostalgia of that time becomes one of life's precious memories. I, too, know that by turning the pages and feasting our eyes on the photographs, this book will leave you with feelings of peace, enjoyment, and satisfaction that I experienced during its creation.Christine

Craftland
An "impassioned and inspiring account of the extraordinary men and women still doing traditional artisanal work" (The Sunday Times) in the face of massive technological industrialization--by renowned Cambridge art historian Dr. James Fox. "Beautifully written and (charmingly illustrated) . . . His chronicle of the decline of the traditional trades is staggering."--The Wall Street Journal During an age of mass manufacturing, fast fashion, synthetic materials and the unsustainable practice of companies valuing quantity over quality, a return to tradition, connection, and simplicity is essential. Art historian and award-winning broadcaster Dr. James Fox explores the rapidly fading crafts and artisanal traditions of the world--such as coopering, basket-weaving, wheelwrighting, metalwork, and blacksmithing--that have shaped so much of our history through their alchemy of the hand-made human touch and generational wisdom. Fox explains the history of craftsmanship in Britain, taking readers across the lands and communities that originated there, teaching them about the practices, traditions, and people at their heart. From coopers to thatchers, basket makers to bellfounders and dry wall builders, Fox tours Britain, once the workshop of the world, in search of its lost and disappearing craft traditions and the artisans trying to keep them alive including, a rush weaver who has managed to rebuild a sustainable business with her baskets and other wares, a bell foundry that uses the same practices it used in the nineteenth century, and dry wallers, building walls one piece of stone at a time that could last two centuries. Part travelogue and part historical record, Craftland is a profoundly intimate meditation on our human cultural heritage, exploring what we lose as these traditions fade from view in the race of progress, and what we stand to gain if we bring them back.
