The Cats Who Adopted Me
This book is a continuation of the first, Mr. Whiskers. This new book, The Cats Who Adopted Me, is about animal friendship. It is said that "Dogs are man's best friend." However, I find that cats can be loving and perceptive in what they sense with humans. These cats give love as much as they are looking for love, care, and tenderness, and they respond in kind. I love to watch them as they are rubbed. They arch their backs and rub against your leg-so tender and intimate. Kindness in any form is always a spiritual and emotional journey.
The Wisdom of Aramis
The new book of essays by poet and publicist Elia Pekica Pagon titled The Wisdom of Aramis talks about real-life treasures as opposed to false ones. It emphasizes all that really matters in life through simple truths from our everyday lives. The Wisdom of Aramis provides us with profound messages drawn from the lessons we can learn from our best friends and most devoted companions, our furry angels. It is a book dedicated to the author's beloved pug, Aramis Giving of Good, who will always stay in her heart and who will fill the hearts of the readers with such a great sentiment of love, peace, tolerance, and compassion. The book talks about the joy of unconditional love, about deep compassion and inner peace, about the importance of acceptance and sincere kindness, about the magic of patience and miraculous coincidences. The book gives us the chance to discover a better world and a better version of ourselves through our self-awareness through which we can truly get to know ourselves, find our place in this world and beyond, and live in perfect harmony with nature and the entire universe. There is so much to learn from our pets. Everything we love about them is what we miss most in our lives, and that is true friendship-a pair of sincere eyes, a face without a social mask, someone to be here for us when no one else is, someone to understand us and love us unconditionally. We enjoy their company because they help us be who we really are, and they teach us how to enjoy our lives and this world in such a lovely way. Our beloved companions help us find our inner peace, and that's exactly how we can establish universal peace-by bringing peace into our lives.
Things to do on Vacation in Florida with your Dog
I always hate leaving our pets at home when we travel. Last year, our dog sitter cancelled - it was the holidays and we had no choice but to take our family pet with us. Our dog was thrilled to be taken along. Since he was a pup, our dog has learned to travel with us. He is a good little travel buddy. No matter where we are, he always makes sure to keep his pack together! These poems are dog friendly, pet friendly odes to what we did on vacation with our dog - it's amazing the things you can find an experience once your parameters are changed to ones that must include (or must love) dogs! Woof, woof!

My Life in a Cat House
Celebrate the human-feline bond with all its joys, mysteries, and life-changing moments. Gwen Cooper--author of the blockbuster bestseller Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned About Love and Life With a Blind Wonder Cat--returns with the ongoing adventures of her much-beloved, world-famous fur family. Ideal for new readers and longtime fans alike, this memoir told in eight purr-fect cat stories is filled with all the humor and heart Gwen's devoted readership has come to know and love. Raised in a dog-loving family, Gwen never pictured herself as a "cat person." But from the very first feline she adopted--an adorable five-week-old rescue kitten, slow to learn how to trust after life on the streets--Gwen was smitten. Eventually one rescue kitten became five, and all the ups and downs of a life with cats are lovingly depicted here: From the obsessive cat who teaches himself to play fetch and demands it morning, noon, and night from his hapless human mom; to the crafty white beauty who raises outside-the-litter-box thinking to the level of an art form; to the routine vet trip that turns into a hijinks-filled misadventure on the streets of Manhattan with three (VERY cranky!) felines in tow. And Homer, the Blind Wonder Cat himself, returns triumphant in new tales of life and love after worldwide fame. Sure to be treasured by cat lovers everywhere, My Life in a Cat House will leave you laughing out loud, shedding an occasional tear, and hugging your own cat a little bit closer. Read and rejoice!
Homer and the Holiday Miracle
Homer, the world-renowned Blind Wonder Cat, returns this holiday season with an ins-purr-ational tale filled with holiday cheer! Fifteen years earlier, doctors had warned that Homer--a tiny, sightless kitten--was unlikely to survive and probably wouldn't have much of a life even if he did. Miraculously and against all the odds, however, Homer grew into a feline dynamo who scaled seven-foot bookcases with ease, saved his human mom's life when he chased a late-night burglar from their apartment, and rose to global fame--paving the way for other special-needs animals once considered "unadoptable." Now, only two weeks before Christmas, with doctors once again decreeing that Homer didn't have much time--that he wouldn't even make it to Christmas Eve--Homer showed everyone that he still had one more miracle left in him. The heroic blind cat proved again, once and for all, that hope and love aren't things you see with your eyes. You see them with your heart. Humorous and heartwarming, Homer and the Holiday Miracle will leave you filled with the true spirit of the season. It's the ideal stocking-stuffer for the cat lover on your list--and the perfect holiday treat for yourself. Read and rejoice!

Bailey wants to share that with you and give you some ideas from our wonderful life to help you really enjoy your dog and life with them.
Designer Dogs
Designer Dogs is the shocking exposure of the dangers of continuing to make our dogs tinier or funnier looking, more "Instagram worthy," and presents startling new revelations on why this threatens French bulldogs, pit bulls, and other favorite breeds with extinction. Ever heard of a labradoodle, a goldendoodle, or a puggle? How about a cockapoo, a pomsky, or a spoodle? You or a friend have certainly been enticed by a "hypoallergenic dog" and smiled at a "teacup." These are not dog breeds that nature created; these are the results of the forced mating or genetic engineering of different breeds, or inbreeding, and popularized by social media and celebrities. In Designer Dogs, Madeline Bernstein, one of the country's most respected animal welfare crusaders, reveals our culture's obsession with new types of dogs--engineering puppies that keep getting smaller or sillier looking--and the horrifying health consequences of this on those we claim as our best friends. She also provides extraordinary revelations on how this has led to a world of "disposable pets"--puppies and adult dogs abandoned when their medical expenses become too costly and added to the 6.5 million animals entering shelters each year, or put on the street--and informed insight into what's ahead: made-to-order puppies; hybrid animals; shorter life spans for dogs; and even the extinction of breeds like French bulldogs, pit bulls, King Charles spaniels, mastiffs, Skye terriers, bloodhounds, and more. And Bernstein calls out those responsible for the savagery, both domestic puppy mills and backyard breeders, and also an international dog trafficking ring that she's been on the front line exposing. In the vein of Peter Singer's groundbreaking and best-selling volume Animal Liberation, this one-of-a-kind book is one of the most important industry expos矇s ever published. Bernstein's game-changing and unforgettable text, ripe with ethical questions, is a public window into a new and fast-growing industry, and destined to cause outrage and save lives in the process.

The Dia Book
Absolutes is mostly written by Dia the Cat, who was not fret-free and fuzzy; she was a spiritual anarchist who refused to be modified. Fa was her serious but clumsy student who grew to be a master. Dia and her soul mate, Fa, followed the tradition of interspecies illumination with slapstick wisdom, unrelenting truth, and wild creativity. At a time when I was running in circles, chasing my own tail, Dia and Fa spoke up, engaging me in conversations that distracted me from myself just long enough for me to grasp some insights. Absolutes are those conversations.

Strays
For fans of A Street Cat Named Bob and Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World, "this lovely, luminous story will warm your heart and make you laugh and want to share your life with a rescue cat" (Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, author of The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats).Alcoholic and depressed, Michael King lives on the streets of Portland, Oregon, and sleeps in a UPS loading bay. One raining night, he stumbles upon a hurt, starving, scruffy cat cowering beneath a caf矇 table and takes her in. He names her Tabor, nurses her back to health, and she becomes something of a celebrity in Southeast Portland. When winter comes, they travel from Oregon to the beaches of California to the high plains of Montana, surviving blizzards, bears, angry steers, and rainstorms. Along the way, people are drawn to the spirited, beautiful cat and are moved to help Michael, who cuts a striking figure with Tabor riding high on his backpack or walking on a leash. Tabor comforts Michael when he's down, giving him someone to love and care for, and inspiring him to get sober and to come to terms with his past family traumas and grief over the death of his life partner. As they make their way along the West Coast, the pair become inseparable, healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. When Michael takes Tabor to a veterinarian in Montana, he discovers that Tabor has an identification chip and an owner in Portland who has never given up hope of finding his beloved cat. Michael is faced with the difficult choice of keeping Tabor or returning her to her rightful owner--and, once again, facing the streets alone.

The Grace of Dogs
In the bestselling tradition of Inside of a Dog and Marley & Me, a smart, illuminating, and entertaining read on why the dog-human relationship is unique--and possibly even "spiritual." Dr. Andrew Root's search for the canine soul began the day his eight-year-old son led the family in a moving Christian ritual at the burial service for Kirby, their beloved black lab. In the coming weeks, Root found himself wondering: What was this thing we'd experienced with this animal? Why did the loss hurt so poignantly? Why did his son's act seem so right in its sacramental feel? In The Grace of Dogs, Root draws on biology, history, theology, cognitive ethology (the study of animal minds), and paleontology to trace how in our mutual evolution, humans and dogs have so often helped each other to become more fully ourselves. Root explores questions like: Do dogs have souls? Is it accurate to say that dogs "love" us? What do psychology and physiology say about why we react to dogs in the way that we do? The Grace of Dogs paints a vivid picture of how, beyond sentimentality, the dog-human connection can legitimately be described as "spiritual"--as existing not for the sake of gain, but for the unselfish desire to be with and for the other, and to remind us that we are persons worthy of love and able to share love. In this book for any parent whose kids have asked if they'll see Fido in Heaven, or who has looked their beloved dog in the face and wondered what's going on in there, Dr. Root delivers an illuminating and heartfelt read that will change how we understand man's best friend.
500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish
Praise for the hardcover edition: "For users looking for specific information on freshwater aquarium fish this will be a useful and interesting resource." --American Reference Books Annual 2007 "Any home or library collection strong in aquarium references -- and many a fish store -- will find this packed with in-depth detail perfect for setting up an aquarium." --The Midwest Book Review This comprehensive full-color reference covers 500 of the most popular freshwater aquarium fish. It provides concise at-a-glance information on their behavior, diet and breeding along with guidance and recommendations on setting up a freshwater aquarium. Substantive and well organized for easy navigation, the book satisfies a wide of needs. Beginners can start their hobby with confidence and experienced keepers can use the book as an authoritative reference. The most important update of this edition is that species names have been changed in accordance with the latest international revisions, made to take into account recent DNA information. In all, about 120 names are updated. Freshwater Aquarium Fish is a "window shopping" trip guided by an aquarium specialist ready to offer advice. The directory details every species appropriate for a freshwater aquarium. While most require a heated aquarium, other varieties can be kept in an unheated one (such as bloodfin tetras, white clouds and the beginner classic, goldfish). The book organizes the freshwater aquarium species in major groups, among them: Cichlids (such as angelfish and discus); Catfish; Cyprinids (such as barbs, danios, koi and goldfish); Characoids (such as tetras, neons and piranhas); Loaches and suckers; Gouramis (such as bettas, paradise fish and snakeheads); Rainbow fish and blue-eyes; and Livebearers (such as mollies and platies). This comprehensive and useful reference is from a highly respected fish keeper with more than 50 years' experience. His advice and guidance will be welcomed by amateur fish keepers of any age and expertise.
Bono
From New York Times bestselling author Helen Brown comes a funny and moving account of her life-changing month as a foster mother--to a homeless cat named Bono. When Helen Brown arrived in New York for a much-anticipated visit, a fellow animal lover talked her into fostering a shelter cat. Helen visualized a sweet-natured cuddler who blinked and dozed a lot. What she got at Manhattan's Bideawee shelter was a wide-eyed and unpredictable Persian with a punked-out haircut and a feisty attitude. Bono had become homeless during Hurricane Sandy, had survived a serious infection, and needed daily medications. As a "special needs" cat, he was an unlikely candidate for adoption. But as affection between them grew, Helen resolved to see that Bono found his forever home. She didn't know that he would change her life in ways she never dreamed possible and teach her lessons she would cherish ever after. Just as this sweet, beleaguered, and hopeful guy deserved a fresh start, Helen too was ready for new beginnings. And so began a heartwarming, uplifting, lasting kind of love . . . Praise for the works of Helen Brown "A buoyant tale, heartfelt and open." -Booklist "An absolute must." --Cat World "Brown gives inspiration with her witty, adventurous story." --RT Book Reviews "Brown writes eloquently about women, daughters, and felines." --Kirkus Reviews

Canine Confidential
For all the love and attention we give dogs, much of what they do remains mysterious. Just think about different behaviors you see at a dog park: We have a good understanding of what it means when dogs wag their tails--but what about when they sniff and roll on a stinky spot? Why do they play tug-of-war with one dog, while showing their bellies to another? Why are some dogs shy, while others are bold? What goes on in dogs' heads and hearts--and how much can we know and understand? Canine Confidential has the answers. Written by award-winning scientist--and lifelong dog lover--Marc Bekoff, it not only brilliantly opens up the world of dog behavior, but also helps us understand how we can make our dogs' lives the best they can possibly be. Rooted in the most up-to-date science on cognition and emotion--fields that have exploded in recent years--Canine Confidential is a wonderfully accessible treasure trove of new information and myth-busting. Peeing, we learn, isn't always marking; grass-eating isn't always an attempt to trigger vomiting; it's okay to hug a dog--on their terms; and so much more. There's still much we don't know, but at the core of the book is the certainty that dogs do have deep emotional lives, and that as their companions we must try to make those lives as rich and fulfilling as possible. It's also clear that we must look at dogs as unique individuals and refrain from talking about "the dog." Bekoff also considers the practical importance of knowing details about dog behavior. He advocates strongly for positive training--there's no need to dominate or shame dogs or to make them live in fear--and the detailed information contained in Canine Confidential has a good deal of significance for dog trainers and teachers. He also suggests that trainers should watch and study dogs in various contexts outside of those in which they are dealing with clients, canine and human, with specific needs. There's nothing in the world as heartwarming as being greeted by your dog at the end of the workday. Read Canine Confidential, and you'll be on the road to making your shared lives as happy, healthy, and rewarding as they can possibly be.

Training in No Time
Training in No Time supplies the training regimen today's busy lifestyles demand for both owners and their dogs. It makes good use of how dogs learn and explains how to use that knowledge to establish and maintain the responses every dog owner wants. The Sneakaway is the foundation of this training method. Quite literally, you turn your back and sneak away whenever your dog stops paying attention to you. This method allows for easy teaching and effective problem solving by first focusing your dog's undivided attention on you, even around the strongest distractions. Then using daily, subtle clues you give your dog in everyday interactions, you can instill good habits The surest way to get permanent, positive results is to recognize and change the few big ambiguities that allowed problems to surface and to use daily, subtle clues to instill, not destroy, good habits. Behavior is being molded 24 hours a day. This results in consistent, socially acceptable behavior under all circumstances and a well-trained companion dog.

The Story of the Plott Hound
Recognized now as one of the premier hunting dogs in America, the Plott bear hound is unique among hunting dog breeds because it descends from Germanic stock rather than the traditional English foxhound. The breed's story began when its original breeder, Johannes Plott, and his brother Enoch left Germany in 1750 with their prized hunting dogs. This trip across the Atlantic began the two-hundred-year journey that would culminate in the North Carolina mountains with the development of what is now arguably the world's finest breed of hunting dog. This fascinating story of the Plott family and the Plott hound is a classic American tale of adventurers and underdogs--a story that Bob Plott, the great-great-great-grandson of Johannes Plott, is uniquely qualified to tell.

My Little Ones

Also, it is meant to encourage people and children to give a little one a chance to have a home and to be loved. Children can learn many lessons with animals: being caring, loving unconditionally, being a faithful companion, giving true friendship, experiencing new places, and greeting and sharing.
