This book has two main objectives, the first of which is to extend the power of numerical Fourier analysis and to show by means of theoretical examples and numerous concrete applications that when computing discrete Fourier transforms of periodic and non periodic functions, the usual kernel matrix of the Fourier transform, the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), should be replaced by another kernel matrix, the eXtended Fourier transform (XFT), since the XFT matrix appears as a convergent quadrature of a more general transform, the fractional Fourier transform. In turn, the book's second goal is to present the XFT matrix as a finite-dimensional transformation that links certain discrete operators in the same way that the corresponding continuous operators are related by the Fourier transform, and to show that the XFT matrix accordingly generates sequences of matrix operators that represent continuum operators, and which allow these operators to be studied from another perspective.

Halphen Distribution Family
Studying the HALPHEN DISTRIBUTION FAMILY was suggested by Professor Jacques Bernier, a visiting scientist at the Chair in Statistical Hydrology. The demands for statistical literacy have never been greater. Statistically literate high-school graduate need to be able to evaluate the conclusions and legitimacy of reported results as well as formulate their own analyses. Driven by the digital revolution, data are now readily accessible to statistical methods and technological tools so that students can to gain insights and make recommendations to manage pressing world issues. Data can be extremely valuable, but only if they are used judiciously and in a proper context. Today, many sectors of the economy and most jobs rely on data skills. Good data sense is needed to easily read the news and to participate in society as a well-informed member. Because of this, it is essential that all students leave secondary school prepared to live and work in a data-driven world. The Pre-K-12 GAISE II report presents a set of recommendations for school-level statistical literacy.Overview and Goals of GAISE IIThe Pre-K-12 GAISE I (www.amstat.org/education/gaise) was a seminal and visionary document that championed the necessity of data and statistical literacy starting in the early school grades. It provided a framework of recommendations for developing students' foundational skills in statistical reasoning in three levels across the school years, described as levels A, B, and C. These levels are maintained in GAISE II and are roughly equivalent to elementary, middle, and high school. The progression through the sequential levels in the Pre-K-12 GAISE (both I and II) is intended for any individual who is striving to achieve statistical literacy, regardless of age. GAISE II addresses the evolution of data types and skills needed to make sense of the wealth of data that confronts us. The new updates include:1. The importance of questioning through each stage of the statistical problem-solving process (formulating a statistical investigative question, collecting or considering data, analyzing data, and interpreting results) and how this process remains at the forefront of statistical thinking;2. The consideration of different data and variable types and the importance of carefully designing how primary data are collected or secondary data are considered to answer a statistical investigative question, the process of collecting and cleaning data, the interrogation of data, and the analysis of data;3. Introduction to Cardinal Arithmetic
This book is an introduction to modern cardinal arithmetic, developed in the frame of the axioms of Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory together with the axiom of choice. It splits into three parts. Part one, which is contained in Chapter 1, describes the classical cardinal arithmetic due to Bernstein, Cantor, Hausdorff, Konig, and Tarski. The results were found in the years between 1870 and 1930. Part two, which is Chapter 2, characterizes the development of cardinal arith- metic in the seventies, which was led by Galvin, Hajnal, and Silver. The third part, contained in Chapters 3 to 9, presents the fundamental investigations in pcf-theory which has been developed by S. Shelah to answer the questions left open in the seventies. All theorems presented in Chapter 3 and Chapters 5 to 9 are due to Shelah, unless otherwise stated. We are greatly indebted to all those set theorists whose work we have tried to expound. Concerning the literature we owe very much to S. Shelah's book [Sh5] and to the article by M. R. Burke and M. Magidor [BM] which also initiated our students' interest for Shelah's pcf-theory.

Stability Analysis of Mula Dam
Mula dam is the oldest earthen type dam located at Baragaon Nandur across Mula River, Tal. Rahuri, district Ahmednagar (M.S.). Its location is 19.3293簞 N, 74.5296簞 E. The dam has a catchment area of 2274 Sq. Kms and gross storage capacity 736,320.00 km3. It supplies water to most parts of the city. It even supplies water for industrial, irrigational, recreation, and domestic purposes. Hence Mula dam is considered as the lifeline of Ahmednagar district. The dam was constructed in the year 1972. On an urgent basis, there is a need to check the stability of the dam to measure the seismic effect on the hydraulic structures. Using the Swedish slip circle method, stability analysis of upstream slope and downstream slope, analysis of hydraulic components such as spillway, stilling basin, canals were carried out.

Multi-Composed Programming with Applications to Facility Location
Oleg Wilfer presents a new conjugate duality concept for geometric and cone constrained optimization problems whose objective functions are a composition of finitely many functions. As an application, the author derives results for single minmax location problems formulated by means of extended perturbed minimal time functions as well as for multi-facility minmax location problems defined by gauges. In addition, he provides formulae of projections onto the epigraphs of gauges to solve these kinds of location problems numerically by using parallel splitting algorithms. He has taught courses such as electrician principle, electronic circuit, pulse circuit, digital logic, computer composition principle, computer application, assembly language programming, and so on. Based on many years of teaching experience, he compiled the IBM Microcomputer System and Assembly Language Programming guide which was published by Xiamen University Press in March 1990. In addition to teaching, he has made great efforts to develop the application of scientific theory and technology, participated in the development of many electronic circuits and computer applications projects, and published many research papers and works. Among them, "MM-1000 Friction Testing Machine Microcomputer System" software and hardware development, passed provincial technical appraisal in December 1987.The system plays an important role in the research of wet friction and wear testing technology and it has won the third prize of the Ministry of Electricity. Before retirement, he was an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, Xiamen University.

A new hybrid exponentially weighted moving average control chart
We have proposed a New Hybrid Exponentially Weighted Moving Average HEWMA control chart. The proposed control chart is based on a mixture ratio estimator of the mean using a single auxiliary variable and a single auxiliary attribute (Moeen et al., 2012). We call it as Z- HEWMA control chart. The proposed control chart performance is evaluated using out-of-control-Average Run Length (ARL1). The control limits of the proposed chart is based on the estimator, its mean square errors. A simulated data is used to compare the proposed Z-HEWMA, traditional/simple EWMA chart and CUSUM control chart. From this study, the fact is revealed that Z-HEWMA control chart shows more efficient results as compared to traditional/simple EWMA and CUSUM control charts. The Z-HEWMA chart can be used for efficient monitoring of the production process in manufacturing industries where auxiliary information about a numerical variable and an attribute is available.

In chapter two and three two dimensional geometric progressions with multiplicities one and two have been explained. Auch schon Grundschulkinder sollen mit dem Wahrscheinlichkeitsbegriff in Verbindung gebracht werden, denn sie sollen erkennen, dass es zufallsbedingte und nicht zufallsbedingte Ereignisse gibt. Die Mathematikdidaktiker und Psychologen wie Bruner und Piaget sind der Meinung, dass das Thema bereits fr羹hzeitig in den Unterricht eingebaut werden sollte.

Crooked Thinking or Straight Talk?
Why can't we think straight about the big issues that face our society? Why are we taken in by the phony arguments of populists and scammers? Where are the philosophers hiding when we need them to tell us what makes sense? They are hiding because they have nothing to say. The airy-fairy answers offered by writers of footnotes to Plato were wrong two thousand years ago, and they are still wrong now. All this time, we should have been listening to a different but equally venerable branch of matter-of-fact philosophy pioneered by the much-maligned philosopher Epicurus. His ideas were suppressed in ancient times as heretical, but the development of the theory of games and decisions makes it timely for those of us who care about science to revive his style of thinking-not just about the world around us but about ourselves as well. The price of transferring our allegiance to Epicurus and his modern followers is that we can no longer enjoy the luxury of being told what we want to hear. It would be nice if we were really equipped with a hotline to a metaphysical world of transcendental ideals, but the truth is that we are just the flotsam left behind on the beach when the evolutionary tide went out, and we have to get real about what will and will not work for our imperfect species before it is too late. It has no equations and very little jargon; nor does it pull any punches, either in explaining how game theory works or in exposing the follies of famous metaphysicians.
