Song of India
"Follow your bliss!" Joseph Campbell famously said, so she did. After several harrowing years of losses, author Mariellen Ward set out to recover from grief, understand the essence of yoga and rediscover the joy of living by traveling, studying yoga and volunteering in India. The stories in this collection are inspired by the scorched earth of the Rajasthan desert; the hypnotic currents of India's most sacred river; the awe-inspiring spectacle of the sunrise reflected against the white wall of the Himalayan mountain range in Darjeeling; the masses of people at the world's largest spiritual gathering; and the intense, smoke-filled darkness of a night facing death on the river in Varanasi. They are geographically diverse, but thematically linked by the author's transformative journeys across the subcontinent and her obvious love for the culture, the country and the people of India.

Dis-orienting the Maghreb; Morocco in British and American Travel Writing
From the Foreword: 竄Dis-orienting the Maghreb offers a valuable contribution to both scholarship on travel literature and postcolonial studies. Rddad's emphasis on geographical specificity and his focus on the often-neglected travel narratives of Morocco provide a much-needed corrective to the prevailing trends in the field that privilege temporality and continuity. His work not only broadens our understanding of Orientalist discourse but also contributes to the study of travel literature by highlighting the diversity and complexity of Western representations of the Maghreb. His nuanced approach invites readers and scholars alike to reconsider the ways in which we engage with and interpret the rich tradition of travel writing that have shaped our understanding of the world.罈 (Ali Behdad, John Charles Hills Chair in Literature, Professor of English and Comparative Literature, and the Director of the Center for Near Eastern Studies at University of California, Los Angeles) This book rethinks the encounters between Morocco and the West by exploring the ideological and historical foundations of the discursive shifts in Anglo-American travel writing on Morocco. Four major paradigm shifts are identified that characterize travel writing's production of knowledge in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, an era which started placing Morocco in the narrative of Western civilization. The national(ist) turn considers the ways in which Philip Durham Trotter's Our Mission to the Court of Marocco (1880) foregrounds a parochial patriotic rhetoric founded on the notion of the 竄British priority discourse. 罈 The secular turn examines Frances Macnab's A Ride in Morocco (1902) to underscore the supremacy of the secular intent of colonialism over the religious and missionary channels in the dissemination of modernism. The transnational turn examines George Edmond Holt's Morocco the Piquant (1914) in terms of the cultural and ideological transformations of discursive forms in the USA and Morocco in the era of transnationalism. Finally, the imperial turn discusses Edith Wharton's In Morocco (1920) to reveal the anxieties of a discourse trapped between the advocacy of American nationalism and French colonialism.
Socotra
The new, thoroughly updated second edition of Bradt's Socotra remains the first and only guide available to the largest of the four islands that make up the Socotra Archipelago in the Arabian Sea, 390 km offshore from their mother land, Yemen. A UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site packed with dramatically varied and essentially undisturbed landscapes (mountains, forest, ravines, sand-dunes, beaches, caves...), Socotra is unique. Sometimes known as 'The Galapagos of the Indian Ocean', the archipelago has an exceptionally large number of species found nowhere else in the world ('endemic') in an area barely the size of Wiltshire. Accordingly, wildlife-watchers love Socotra: of 220 bird species recorded, 11 are endemic, while more than 300 plant species are endemic, as are all the land snails, 90% of reptiles and about 60% of spiders. Socotra offers much to fascinate the adventurous traveller. Visitors may snorkel from boats or pristine beaches; camel-trek into mountains formed by volcanic activity; gawp at bizarre plants - dragon blood trees that resemble huge, fuzzy-topped umbrellas and giant desert roses; engage with Socotra's rich history, which stretches back to the Stone Age and includes ancient cave art; and lunch at delightful fishing villages.Bradt's full-colour guide covers everything needed for a successful visit, including pre-departure planning, getting there, tour operators, where to stay and what to see. Background information on history, people, language and culture is followed by an easy-to-follow geographical breakdown covering all parts of the island, from the capital Hadiboh to Ayhaft Canyon National Park, Qaria lagoon, Rosh Marine Nature Sanctuary, Homhil Nature Sanctuary, Terbak village, Hoq Cave, Qalansiyah, Diksam plateau and Firmihin Forest. To preserve its fragile environments, the recent growth in tourism - enabled by recent improvements in transport links and resulting in expansion of tourist infrastructure - is being handled with extreme care. Strict regulations are in force to preserve the island's natural heritage and nearly three-quarters has protected status. This pristine and relatively unknown little island, so full of natural treasures, may be on the brink of a very different future. Responsible tourism is paramount, so let Bradt's Socotra be your guide to this captivating island.
Uganda
Bradt's Uganda has for many years been considered the go-to source of information for travellers interested in this extraordinary country, which boasts Africa's most biodiverse - and arguably most exciting - safari circuit. Written by Philip Briggs, the world's foremost guidebook writer on Africa, this new tenth edition of the most detailed travel guidebook available to Uganda has been thoroughly updated by local resident and experienced travel writer Andrew Roberts. Uganda excels for wildlife-watching, and recent transport improvements now make for relatively easy year-round access to key sites. Visit the lush montane forests of Bwindi, which protect one of the world's largest remaining populations of mountain gorillas, watch habituated chimpanzees in Kibale and tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park, or enjoy outstanding birdwatching throughout - with more than a thousand bird species in a country similar in size to Oregon. As well as treating readers to a full-colour wildlife section with over 100 colour photographs, Bradt's Uganda guides visitors around key wildlife-watching experiences. It provides up-to-date coverage of gorilla-tracking options, describing gorilla groups and their locations - everything anyone who dreams of encountering these remarkable primates needs to know. Uganda is not just about wildlife. Hikers love some of Africa's tallest mountains, notably the snow-capped Rwenzori (the 'Mountains of the Moon'), the massive collapsed caldera that tops Mount Elgon, and the steep forest-swathed volcanic peaks of the Virungas. A highlight for adrenaline junkies is rafting the 'Grade Five' white-water rapids on the Nile shortly after it emerges from the inland sea that is Lake Victoria. In this tenth edition, carefully selected accommodation listings have been updated, providing critical appraisals of optimum options in each price bracket. While tourism has long focused on western Uganda, this edition strengthens attention on the country's remote northeast corner, which is emerging as a popular destination that includes the untrammelled savannah of Kidepo National Park and offers opportunities to interact with traditional Karamojong pastoralists. Boasting detailed maps of the country, updated or created from scratch using GPS, and all the travel advice a visitor might want, Bradt's Uganda remains the essential companion guide to this compelling country.
Botswana Safari Guide
This new, thoroughly updated sixth edition of Bradt's Botswana Safari Guide remains the only full-blown, standalone guide to one of Africa's most popular and rewarding safari destinations. This is the sole guide to focus on Botswana's key safari locations: the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and the Northern Kalahari. Moreover, with improved air access from the US, via South Africa, Botswana has never been easier to visit. The country's wilderness is pristine, a virtue underpinned by governmental commitment to sustainable tourism. The Okavango Delta's permanent waters attract year-round wildlife, now including all the 'big five' rhinos have been successfully re-introduced. Outside the Delta, this English-speaking country offers tremendous variety in landscapes, from the arid Kalahari to lush forests. Riverine areas harbour spectacular herds of elephants and buffalo, and mighty predator populations. Dusty savannahs attract hardier game like oryx and springbok. On Makgadikgadi's great salt pans, zebra gather in huge congregations after rain. Birdwatching is brilliant throughout. Then there's Botswana's rich history, from the Tsodilo Hills' ancient rock paintings to Stone Age arrowheads on the Makgadikgadi Pans. Bradt's Botswana Safari Guide offers detailed descriptions of many lodges, from traditional tented camps to those offering five-star luxury and top-class cuisine, plus detail on what animals occur where, enabling you to select the optimum approach. With this book's comprehensive GPS co-ordinates and detailed maps, independent travellers can drive themselves around. But perhaps you prefer bespoke mobile safaris with a private guide? For something different, explore rivers on gentle motorboat cruises, including on multi-day trips, or get closer to the water in a traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe), with a poler escorting you along shallow waterways. Or seek out a specialist walking camp for the excitement of bush walks - when meerkats might even pose atop your head for a great lookout. And why not use this book's advice to book-end trips by visiting Livingstone (Zambia) and the Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)?
Walt Disney World's Hidden Mickeys and Hidden Surprises
Hidden Mickeys are partial or complete images of Mickey Mouse (or other Disney Characters) that are cleverly concealed by Disney's Imagineers and artists in attractions, hotels, restaurants, shops and other spaces in Walt Disney World. Hidden Surprises include other concealed Disney trivia. With this new 11th edition of "Walt Disney World's Hidden Mickeys and Hidden Surprises," the Disney guest can find over 1,200 Hidden Mickeys and Surprises (with over 100 new ones) in Walt Disney World. The book arranges the Hidden Mickeys into six scavenger hunts, which offer cryptic Clues to Mickey's hiding places. There's a scavenger hunt for each theme park, one for the resort hotels, and one for all the rest of Walt Disney World. The guest can earn points for finding each Hidden Mickey with only the Clue. Hidden Mickeys are rated from one to five points, and more subtle and hard-to-find Hidden Mickeys are worth higher point values. If the guest can't locate a specific Hidden Mickey with the Clue, then the Hint a few pages later will provide an exact description of the Hidden Mickey and its location - but no points can be claimed if the Hint is consulted. The scavenger hunts are arranged to optimize efficient guest touring of all Walt Disney World areas. The author also lists his top twenty favorite Hidden Mickeys, and he acknowledges by name all Hidden Mickey hunters who were first to discover a new Hidden Mickey.

Marginlands
"Marginlands is a tour de force, a magnificent first book about India's marginalized landscapes and inhabitants, written with compassion, compressed elegance of observation, and urgent political force."--Robert MacfarlaneAs a child growing up in Mumbai, Arati Kumar-Rao's parents instilled in her an abiding love for the natural world and a passion for storytelling. Years later, adrift in a corporate job and concerned by the unbridled development of her country, she asked herself, "When will you stop doing what you can do and start doing what you really want to do?"Animated by an instinctive sense that our fate is bound to that of the earth and the more-than-human world, Kumar-Rao sets out on a journey across India, listening along the way to stories the land and its people share with her. In the Thar Desert, often reduced to the value of extractable commodities, she learns about ancient methods of harvesting rainwater from shepherds with deep ancestral memories. In the delta formed by the confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna Rivers at the Bay of Bengal, she walks ancient shorelines and mangrove forests with a marine biologist, exploring tidepools and learning of the extent to which this astonishingly diverse ecology is increasingly endangered by commercial trawlers and overfishing. And on India's northernmost plateau, surrounded by the Himalaya and home to snow leopards, ibex, and numerous endangered species of eagles and owls, she finds glaciers disappearing at an alarming rate and meets with inhabitants who play little role in creating climate change but now bear the brunt of it.Richly illustrated with the author's photographs and drawings, Marginlands is a vibrant and compelling account of the changes reshaping India today. Engaging and urgent, infused with wonder and profound empathy, this is a work of love and hope, inspiring readers across the world to preserve and protect the world around us.

Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.
