Leave Only Footprints
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - "A delightful sampler plate of our national parks, written with charisma and erudition."--Nick Offerman, author of Paddle Your Own Canoe From CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Conor Knighton, a behind-the-scenery look at his year traveling to each of America's National Parks, discovering the most beautiful places and most interesting people our country has to offerNAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY OUTSIDE When Conor Knighton set off to explore America's "best idea," he worried the whole thing could end up being his worst idea. A broken engagement and a broken heart had left him longing for a change of scenery, but the plan he'd cooked up in response had gone a bit overboard in that department: Over the course of a single year, Knighton would visit every national park in the country, from Acadia to Zion. In Leave Only Footprints, Knighton shares informative and entertaining dispatches from what turned out to be the road trip of a lifetime. Whether he's waking up early for a naked scrub in a historic bathhouse in Arkansas or staying up late to stargaze along our loneliest highway in Nevada, Knighton weaves together the type of stories you're not likely to find in any guidebook. Through his unique lens, America the Beautiful becomes America the Captivating, the Hilarious, and the Inspiring. Along the way, he identifies the threads that tie these wildly different places together--and that tie us to nature--and reveals how his trip ended up changing his views on everything from God and love to politics and technology. Filled with fascinating tidbits about our parks' past and reflections on their fragile future, this book is both a celebration of and a passionate case for the natural wonders that all Americans share.

Exploring South Carolina State Parks
This colorful guidebook offers a complete recreation guide to the opportunities available in South Carolina's parks for visitors and travelers, families, campers, hikers, nature lovers, history buffs, and outdoor enthusiasts. Best-selling authors J.L. and Lin Stepp so enjoyed visiting all the state parks in their home state of Tennessee, while writing their award-winning book Discovering Tennessee State Parks, that they decided to spread their wings and visit all the parks in South Carolina, too. The result is Exploring South Carolina State Parks, a guidebook providing detailed descriptions of each of the forty-seven state parks, along with descriptions of eight of South Carolina's national parks and historic sites. In a format similar to their Tennessee parks guide and their best-selling Smoky Mountain hiking guide, The Afternoon Hiker, the Stepps provide clear directions to get to every park, suggestions for interesting things to do and see while visiting or camping, tips and local insights about the area, and over 700 color illustrations to showcase the beauty of every park visited. The book is divided into four South Carolina regions, the Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate. Each regional section has its own index and at the end of the book is a colorful map and an alphabetical index to help readers easily locate any park of interest. Based on the authors' own explorations and travels throughout South Carolina, this guide offers a detailed personal account of the diverse and picturesque parks, all rich with history and beauty. So pack your bags and get ready for some fun looking through this guide and planning your upcoming trip to The Palmetto State."This is more than a publication of South Carolina state parks. It is the perfect guide for exploring what the parks have to offer in detail. For visitors and campers, the listing of the amenities, photos, and directions is a most valuable tool. As an avid camper, the Stepp's previous guidebook, Discovering Tennessee State Parks, helped me to find new hidden gems in my state. With this new guide, I'm looking forward to visiting as many South Carolina parks as I can!"- Gloria Motter, Cades Cove Museum Director, historian and public speaker

Rumble Strip USA invites you into the passenger seat for travel stories and photos from sideroad journeys in 25 states including the view from the top of a Vermont mountain, the nostalgia of vintage gas stations and motels along Arizona's Route 66 and the rhythm of a twisting byway through Washington.

See America
Created in 1937 by Interior Secretary Harold Ickes and given formal status by Congress in 1940, the US Travel Bureau played a seminal role by setting the precedent for federal involvement in tourism. Business, otherwise hostile to FDR's New Deal, enthusiastically supported its work and Roosevelt, who significantly expanded the National Park system, saw increased tourism as a means to increase attendance, bolster economic activity, and counteract the Great Depression. The Bureau developed unusually extensive public relations and marketing programs that attempted to persuade citizens to travel more. The Travel Bureau also quietly engaged in vigorous marketing to encourage African Americans to travel, including sponsoring the 1940 and 1941 editions of the Green Book, the travel guide for African Americans facing segregated restaurants and lodging. Eventually, travel promotion was transferred to the Commerce Department by Congress and President Nixon with a federal surtax to fund it and where it continues today.

My Take on All 50 States
Fulltime troublemaker Jim Ford didn't think much about traveling growing up. He was too busy goofing around in his neighborhood and running from the local police. Soon his thirst for adventure and discovering the new fueled him to leave the safety of his small town and set out to become an actor and a stuntman, and to see every state in the process. Things paid off quickly after moving to New York. Not only was Jim snagging lucrative commercials and parts alongside some legends of Film & Television, he was surprisingly filming in a multitude of new and exciting locations. He picked up some rare experiences along the way that include fighting with Colin Ferrell, having a shootout with Tom Cruise, and running around with Justin Timberlake. This is a daring memoir told through an array of unique escapades that all happen in different states. MY TAKE ON ALL FIFTY STATES is an unexpected journey that will entertain you, as well as inspire you to get off the couch, take risks, and try to live every day to the fullest. It's truly a wild ride, filled with humor, love, insight, unapologetic energy, and some really cool stories.
The Limey Project
The Limey Project is an incredible adventure into the heart of America and into the self. Two young Brits plan to challenge themselves and cast off their youthful anxieties by cycling across the country twice; traveling from Seattle to Miami, via San Diego. With paper maps, free from phones, wearing baggy shorts and old tennis shoes, astride overloaded bikes and heading into winter, they naively but eagerly set off. They journey through deserts, mountains and forests, pausing to be drawn into the darker nightlife of the cities. They are harassed by felons, guzzle a gazillion gas station coffees, and their food is stolen by the beasts of the wild. They encounter Hollywood millionaires, homeless dreamers, 103 dead roadside pets, ecosystems on the edge, and an alarmingly large number of people with guns. Access to this diverse, yet intimate, America is afforded only by the extraordinary power of the humble bicycle. They encounter a nation trying to find its identity, at an extraordinary time in its history. As the journey goes on, significant global events unfold with a strange serendipity, and daily experiences take on a surreal nature. When their closest friend becomes an invisible, talking bear they start to worry they are losing their minds. But when the tyres hit the beach after 4,500 miles, they realise it was all real and that they - and the world - will never be the same again.

The next section is where you can jot down where you're traveling to and from, the distance that will be, and how long it took.4. Then you'll see a Traffic section to rate how bad the traffic was.5. Next is an area to plan out your Travel Route a little more, including Stops, Time of Arrival, and Highlights/Notes. Be as detailed as possible here, and fill it out with specific moments.6. Dining Experiences is the next section, and you can write down what you ate, how much, and what restaurants you stopped at.7.
