The Right to Play
Jane Addams ensured that all children in the United States had the right to play. When Jane Addams was a little girl, she had a limp that prevented her from running and playing with the other children in her neighborhood. Eventually her condition improved, and she was able to join in the fun and make new friends. But she never forgot what it felt like to be left out. Jane grew up and moved to Chicago to cofound Hull House, a settlement home for immigrant families. There, kids from different countries spent time together while their parents worked. Jane wanted to give the boys and girls in her care a place outside where they could run and play, just as she used to. So she commissioned the first model playground in the US, sparking a nationwide movement to build safe, dedicated spaces for children of all abilities to play.

Understanding AI
Artificial Intelligence is all about humans asking computers and other machines to think and even behave like humans, and to take on jobs that people find too difficult or too boring. But how do you actually define the term? What exactly can machines with AI already do, and what might they be able to do in the future? This book answers all the questions - where answers exist - and raises debating points at every turn about what it all means. Should we be asking machines to do creative tasks, such as writing and illustrating books? Do we need to worry if intelligent machines need to be treated like people? Is there a chance that machines might take over the world, either by accident or on purpose? Is there any point going to school and doing homework if computers can do it all for us, and better?

The Eclipse of 1919
From his earliest days as a child, Albert Einstein was fascinated with the relationship between light and gravity. He couldn't stop thinking about the laws of the universe, and was determined to describe how motion and time, and energy and mass, all worked together. Einstein imagined gravity as what happens when objects bend the space and time around them. But this theory couldn't be perceived in the everyday world. To test his hypothesis, Einstein needed to see if the sun's gravity bent the light from a nearby star. And the only way to do that was to photograph a total solar eclipse. This is the story of how scientist Arthur Eddington validated Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, permanently altering the world's understanding of the universe and beyond. It's a testament to the relationship between nature, science, and the pursuit of knowledge.
