A Mother's Assurance
I was inspired to write "A Mother's Assurance" because I remember how insecure I was about my appearance as a child. Like many others, I was teased in school. This promoted me to feel inferior and even dislike the person God created me to be. I felt my lips were too big (I used to hold them in), my legs were too long and my forehead was huge. Even more devastating was the body images that were labeled "beautiful" which looked nothing like mine. With time and reassurance from my mother; I learned I was in fact beautiful just as I was. I learned God created me to look the way I did and that meant I was already perfect! Once I realized this I began to feel happy and free. I could not keep this good news to myself. I had to share it. When our children believe they are beautiful, irrespective of their kinky hair, long arms, wide nose etc., the more accepting and loving they will view themselves.
Am I Special Too?
This true story begins with a young girl growing up with her older sister, Stephanie, who was born with Down Syndrome. When Jennifer was young she didn't notice much difference between herself and Stephanie but as she grew older she started to develop feelings that she didn't know how to handle. The story follows Jennifer's emotional and spiritual journey. The beautiful watercolor illustrations by her 'soul sister', Jodi Lee Villanella, help to bring life to the words. Together, they are able to create a gateway into the life of the often silent sibling in this seemingly rare situation. It's the author's hope that the family or sibling of someone with any kind of special need, will be able to come to terms with their feelings. It may not be today, tomorrow or even a year from now but eventually they will be at peace, just as Jennifer is with her family and her sister.

This book looks at the personal, legal, and moral questions related to death, including How do you deal with the deal of a loved one? What's it like to live with a terminal illness? What happens after you die?Featuring real stories and quotes from teens about their experiences, this book shows young adults a variety of views on dying and grieving. This book will help readers deal with death--not only the reality that death is inevitable for all of us--but also the many ways people face death and bereavement. Humility Rules
Saint Benedict's fifth-century guide to humility offers the antidote to the epidemic of stress and depression overwhelming modern young adults. But the language of The Rule by Saint Benedict is medieval, and its most passionate advocates are cloistered monks and nuns. How then does this ancient wisdom translate into advice for ordinary people? With candor, humor, and a unique approach to classical art, Father Augustine, a high school teacher and coach, breaks down Saint Benedict's method into twelve pithy steps for finding inner peace in a way that can be applied to anyone's life.Drawing upon his own life experiences, both before and after becoming a Benedictine monk, the author explains every step, illustrating each chapter with color reproductions of sacred art that he has embellished with comic flourishes. The winsome combination is sure to keep readers from taking themselves too seriously--which is already a first step on the path to humility.

A Different Pond
A 2018 Caldecott Honor Book that Kirkus Reviews calls "a must-read for our times," A Different Pond is an unforgettable story about a simple event - a long-ago fishing trip. Graphic novelist Thi Bui and acclaimed poet Bao Phi deliver a powerful, honest glimpse into a relationship between father and son - and between cultures, old and new. As a young boy, Bao and his father awoke early, hours before his father's long workday began, to fish on the shores of a small pond in Minneapolis. Unlike many other anglers, Bao and his father fished for food, not recreation. A successful catch meant a fed family. Between hope-filled casts, Bao's father told him about a different pond in their homeland of Vietnam. Thi Bui's striking, evocative art paired with Phi's expertly crafted prose has earned this powerful picture books six starred reviews and numerous awards.
