The Praying Child
Prayer is vital in the life of every child. It is a safe haven where they are sure there is a higher being (GOD) who loves children and will always listen and answer their prayers.Children can pray for those around them and see the result of their prayers. It is essential that as parents, we are intentional about how we raise our children in to society and the daily challenges in life. One of the ways we can be intentional is to teach our children how to pray. We do not have answers to all questions about life, but God does. Once they know this, they can go into their rooms and talk with God and get answers from him. The child will grow up confident, thoughtful, helpful, and respectful and approach life through a positive lens.

Black Birds in the Sky
A searing new work of nonfiction from award-winning author Brandy Colbert about the history and legacy of one of the most deadly and destructive acts of racial violence in American history: the Tulsa Race Massacre. Winner, Boston Globe-Horn Book Award. In the early morning of June 1, 1921, a white mob marched across the train tracks in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and into its predominantly Black Greenwood District--a thriving, affluent neighborhood known as America's Black Wall Street. They brought with them firearms, gasoline, and explosives. In a few short hours, they'd razed thirty-five square blocks to the ground, leaving hundreds dead. The Tulsa Race Massacre is one of the most devastating acts of racial violence in US history. But how did it come to pass? What exactly happened? And why are the events unknown to so many of us today? These are the questions that award-winning author Brandy Colbert seeks to answer in this unflinching nonfiction account of the Tulsa Race Massacre. In examining the tension that was brought to a boil by many factors--white resentment of Black economic and political advancement, the resurgence of white supremacist groups, the tone and perspective of the media, and more--a portrait is drawn of an event singular in its devastation, but not in its kind. It is part of a legacy of white violence that can be traced from our country's earliest days through Reconstruction, the Civil Rights movement in the mid-twentieth century, and the fight for justice and accountability Black Americans still face today. The Tulsa Race Massacre has long failed to fit into the story Americans like to tell themselves about the history of their country. This book, ambitious and intimate in turn, explores the ways in which the story of the Tulsa Race Massacre is the story of America--and by showing us who we are, points to a way forward.YALSA Honor Award for Excellence in Nonfiction

New Worlds
I was inspired to create this book based on Genesis 1:1-27(KJV), when my eldest son requested that I help him find a first Bible stories for my two year old granddaughter. He specifically wanted a book that all children but especially one to which children of color could relate. I found a book to send to him based on the authenticity of the Word. However, I was not happy with the illustrations. Speaking to self, I said "You are an artist. If you do not like the illustrations, create a children's Bible story book yourself and illustrate it." I prayed about undertaking this project because I have many incomplete projects. My prayers were answered through visions and images as I read King James Version of Genesis 1: 1-27 "The History of Creation". Even though I have read Genesis 1 numerous times, I felt as if I was reading it for the first time. I begin to see colors, textures, and matter. I felt jubilation and I was swept up in swirls of abstraction, action, and explosions of drama. I felt excited and called to a higher purpose. I felt an incredible sense of humbleness because I knew that GOD was allowing me to be a vehicle to show a part of Creation that usually gets missed in the reading. Even more amazing is that GOD Has shown me through this beginning exploration of illustrating his Creation that we need only to look in the mirror to see an image of GOD. We are all created in His Image. What an AWESOME, Loving, Amazing, GOD we serve. All Praise, Honor and Glory to GOD in JESUS Name!

Resting In The Winter Garden
Grief and loss can be difficult for adults to understand, let alone children, and when we are overwhelmed by it, it can be challenging to explain it to a child. 'Resting In The Winter Garden' can lend a helping hand in that process and hopefully provide some peace of mind for the child and for you as well. The idea for this book came to me in a dream after losing my Grandmother. In the dream I was walking through a rose garden and came to a bed under the stars, dressed in white, and resting on that bed was my Grandmother. That dream filled me with a sense of peace. Her favourite season was Winter and her ashes were scattered in the "Winter Garden" at a cemetery, hence the title of the book.

Cross-Border Police Collaboration
This book focuses on a border police collaboration project in the Baltic Sea area aiming at fighting cross-border crimes. It deals with the challenges that inherently "suspicious" organizations face when forced to work together. The study offers unique insights into a European border police project, giving the reader a behind the scenes account of how cross-border policing and organized crime in Europe is prevented and solved. Through detailed ethnographic descriptions, the book describes how a trust-based relationship, which is necessary for the exchange of sensitive intelligence information, gradually developed by the participants in and through their joint efforts to protect Europe from external threats and by performing everyday work together. The study presented in this book is of interest to scholars as well as practitioners concerned with migration management, border policing, intelligence analysis, police culture, and the changing nature of policing in an increasingly global and interconnected world. The book includes various sociological features, such as emotion management, emotional labor, hegemonic masculinity, and takes an interactionist perspective on informal interactions such as joking, bantering, and telling stories. It is also of interest to readers engaged in various forms of intra-, inter-organizational, and inter-cultural collaborations.

What's The Catch?, 2nd ed.
The third book in Hoopoe's "All About Me" series, What's the Catch? looks at how people (from our parents to our peers) and media (from TV commercials to the Internet) try to influence us. In many situations, we're influenced to think, feel or behave in ways that we might not otherwise pursue. Sometimes such influence is helpful, but at other times we end up being shortchanged. What's the Catch? explores situations and presents examples that will help readers become more aware of the forces nudging and pushing them. It includes many fun and entertaining activities they can do over and over again, to help them distinguish between situations when they're being helped and situations when they're manipulated, brainwashed or tricked. And they'll learn when and how to protect themselves from unwanted influence. Author David Sobel, M.D., is a practicing physician who presents ideas in ways that are easy to read and absorb. The book is illustrated by artist Jeff Jackson with an engaging cast of teen characters and images to help highlight these ideas. This new edition of What's the Catch? has been revised to incorporate the latest research findings and meet the American Psychological Association's National Standards for Psychology at the high-school level, the College Board AP Psychology standards and the National Board Standards for Science/Adolescence and Young Adulthood. The "All About Me" series presents books to help teens and preteens understand themselves and how they, as human beings, "work." This is fundamental information, but we often forget to teach it in school - for example, what psychologists know about how we see, think, and feel; how these abilities work, change, grow or get stuck; and how reliable they are as we try to make sense of ourselves, our friends, our relatives and the world around us. There is good, solid information readily available and scientifically validated - and it's all about you ... and me.

Straightforward Thoughts for Young Men
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other - Galatians 5:17Young men, you form a large and very important class in the population of this country; but where, and in what condition, are your souls? I am growing old myself, but there are few things that I can remember so well as the days of my youth. I have a most distinct recollection of the joys and the sorrows, the hopes and the fears, the temptations and the difficulties, the mistaken judgments and the misplaced affections, and the errors and the aspirations which surround and accompany a young man's life. If I can only say something to keep some young man walking in the right way and preserve him from faults and sins, which may hurt his prospects both for time and eternity, I shall be very thankful. There are four things which I propose to do: I will mention some general reasons why young men need exhorting. I will note some special dangers which young men need to be warned about. I will give some general advice which I beg young men to receive. I will set down some special rules of conduct which I strongly advise young men to follow. On each of these four points I have something to say, and my young friend, I pray to God that what I say may do good to your soul. - J. C. Ryle Updated edition based on Thoughts for Young Men
The True Story of Jihad in Islamic History
This is book one of a fascinating three three-part series on Islamic History. For too long, the word 'Jihad' has been misunderstood, not only by the West but by Muslims themselves. This book goes back to the very beginning of Islam when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ successfully transformed and enlightened Arab society and exemplified the true meaning of Jihad - of striving for excellence. Not only in his actions but in character as well.Islamic scholars have identified for main types of Jihad - Jihad of social change, Jihad of education, Jihad of character and finally the Jihad of defence, all of which the Prophet ﷺ excelled at. He not only brought peace and justice to Arabia, but he also gave women their rights, established support for the poor and hungry and guided humanity to have faith in Allah. When the Muslims were forced to defend themselves, we see how the Prophet bravely dealt with the enemy. We look at the strict rules of Islam which forbids harming civilians, livestock or even burning crops. We then ask how young people of today can follow the noble example of the Prophet ﷺ in striving for excellence. The book has been commended by Ahle Sunnah wa Jum'aat (the main body of Islam) scholar, Sheikh Taher as-Siddique, Michigan.Includes 'The Battles of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ' - Three stories written from the perspective of a young soldier in the famous early battles of Islam.
