Study Guide for Decoding Fahrenheit 451
"Decoding Fahrenheit 451" provides a comprehensive overview of Ray Bradbury's seminal dystopian novel, "Fahrenheit 451." The narrative unfolds in three parts, charting protagonist Guy Montag's transformation from a compliant fireman into a questioning rebel, spurred by critical relationships and escalating conflicts that challenge societal norms and individual conscience. Central themes such as the dangers of censorship, the dehumanizing effects of technology, the valorization of knowledge, and the struggle between conformity and individuality are intricately woven into the fabric of the story. Bradbury employs a rich tapestry of literary techniques, including symbolism, imagery, and allegory, to deepen the narrative's impact and underscore its cautionary message. Memorable quotes from the novel, such as "It was a pleasure to burn," encapsulate the essence of its critique on society's suppression of dissenting voices and the profound loss incurred through the abandonment of literature and critical thought. The relationships Montag forms with Clarisse McClellan, his wife Mildred, Captain Beatty, and Professor Faber are pivotal, revealing various facets of his character and the societal dynamics at play. The novel reaches its climax with Montag's confrontation with Beatty, leading to Montag's subsequent escape and alliance with the 'Book People, ' setting the stage for a hopeful resolution. Through Montag's journey, Bradbury celebrates the human spirit's resilience and advocates for preserving intellectual freedom. This study guide aims to enrich students' understanding of "Fahrenheit 451," highlighting its enduring relevance and the critical need for vigilance in the preservation of individual thought and liberty in the face of oppressive forces.

Blue Wall of Silence
Law enforcement is a dangerous profession, but the truth remains more officers kill themselves than are killed in the line-of-duty. A failure to acknowledge this silent killer causes valuable governmental funding to be lost in the form of training and education, and numerous officers to take their own lives before help is available. Study results hope to produce a mindset in which shame and anger no longer produce a shield for this deadly topic, but rather, a platform to begin feeling comfortable talking about the issues officers face, without seeing suicide as a viable option.

Andersonville Prison
Andersonville Prison, also known as Camp Sumter, was a Confederate military prison built in Georgia during the American Civil War. At the height of its fourteen months of operation, occupancy exceeded 45,000 - over four times the intended 10,000 prisoners - leading to overcrowding, malnutrition, and disease. The horrific conditions of the prison led to over 13,000 deaths, which have been documented in this publication, primarily sourced from The Soldier's Story of His Captivity at Andersonville, Belle Isle by Warren Lee Goss, 2nd Massachusetts Regiment of Heavy Artillery. This work is a list by Dorence Atwater of the 2nd New York Cavalry. He was only 19 years old when he came to the prison where he became the "keeper" of the books to record deaths. His list contains almost 12,500 soldiers who died while a prisoner at Andersonville. The list offers details such as names, ranks, the numbers of their graves, the regiments and companies they belonged to, the date of their death, and the cause of death. The list is by state of origin and then alphabetical within that state. A full-name index is used to conclude this work.
The Riggin Family of Delmarva Volume 1
The Riggin Family of Delmarva Volume 1 is the most comprehensive, factually based and referenced compilation of thousands of Riggin (and Riggen, Riggan, Riggins, Riggens) names, found in original colonial and "birth of the United States" era - and beyond - records of the Eastern Shore that has been published to date. Through meticulously researched, documented and referenced original records, together with family provided first source records, the names and lineages found in the book are presented in a generation by generation format, making it easy to follow the growth and spread of individual family lines across America through the years. Other names in the book include marriages into and with other family lineages from that era, linking disparate families forever in time, all indexed. Many Riggin family descendants currently living in America will be able to use the book, and its upcoming sequel, Volume 2 Darby Riggin of Accomack County, Virginia and Other Unlinked Riggin Lines, to trace their lineage back to Teague or Darby Riggin, who first showed up in colonial America in the mid 1600's. Historians will be fascinated by the maps, court records, property transactions, parish births, deaths and marriages, census records, etc. that are included or referenced in this volume. In addition to the family line interest, the book provides a wealth of data that can be combined with separate scientific DNA research efforts - for personal edification as well as to help genealogists and geneticists definitively track the morphology of specific DNA haplogroups through multiple generations, up to 13 now evident from the time of Teague and Darby. Although not within the scope of this book, DNA test linkages to Ireland, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, France and other countries by Riggin descendants who can reference definitive documentary lineage using this book, offer tantalizing DNA hints to our collective past and potential origins, before Teague and Darby arrived in the Americas. An indispensable resource for genealogists and historians, all royalties from the sale of this book have been donated to the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University, Salisbury, Maryland.
Patterns of Meaning in Lexicography and Lexicology
The book takes its cue from the topics of PhrasaLex, a workshop dedicated to phraseological approaches to learner's lexicography which took place for the second time in July 2021 and is connected to the lexicographic project PhraseBase. Considering the great interest that studies on patterns of meaning have gained in lexicology and lexicography, we not only delve into the more phraseological approach, but broaden our horizon to include further approaches, both established and new, that have as their common thread the identification and analysis of patterns of meaning in their interaction with grammatical patterns. In this way, we present the commonalities of a complex, innovative and partly interdisciplinary strand of research that currently involves disciplines such as theoretical and applied linguistics, corpus linguistics and computational linguistics. The book provides insights into different theoretical approaches examining the interface between lexis, semantics and grammar, by dealing with methodological advances and issues regarding corpus linguistics explorations and the lexicographic process. A special focus is on the phraseological nature of language as well as on its implication for the design of (learner's) dictionaries.

Cyclops by Euripides
A new translation of Cyclops, a Satyr play by Euripides. Cyclops is the only Satyr play to have survived in full. The Satyr plays took as their theme a well-known mythological story: here, the story is of Odysseus' encounter with the Cyclops, Polyphemus. Satyrs and their elderly leader, Silenus (whose sole desire is to spend an easy life honouring Bacchus with wine and pursuing nymphs) are introduced into the story, the Satyrs forming the chorus. In Cyclops, Silenus and his satyrs have already come into contact with Polyphemus and been enslaved by him. The Satyrs were not heroic, but are always ready to join in witty repartee - from a safe distance. Silenus provides much of the humour, derived in large measure from his insatiable desire for alcohol. The play follows the traditional storyline and reaches the traditional conclusion - with the escape of Odysseus and the remnants of his crew, accompanied in this case by the joyful Silenus and his Satyrs.
