Das St羹ck spielt um 1900 in Wien.

A Grammatical Sketch of Cua
Cua is a Kalahari Khoe language spoken in southeastern Botswana (Kweneng District). It is closely related to languages such as Gana, Tshila and Tsua. The phonology chapter describes the consonant, tone and vowel inventories, as well as a system of depressed tones following aspirated and voiced consonants. Later chapters provide concise overviews of the morphology and syntax of the language. Cua is characterized by a complex system of person-gender-number markers (PGN markers), which play a role in the formation of the pronouns. The features defining pronouns include: singular, dual, and plural number; first, second, and third person; and masculine, feminine and neutral gender. There is also a distinction between inclusive and exclusive first-person plural pronouns.
Culture in Exile
This edited book breaks new ground by bringing together research on inner and territorial exile in the context of National Socialism in Germany and the Franco regime in Spain, and in proposing an integrated model of exilic cultural production. Original contributions explore previously neglected aspects of the inner and territorial exile cultures, focusing on the specificity of the national settings (including Catalonia) whilst also seeking to place research findings within a conceptual framework of exile which views the experiences and cultural manifestations of inner and territorial exiles not as polar opposites, but as interactions of response to fascist dictatorship. This book will be of interest to scholars and students of German Studies, Hispanic Studies, comparative literary and cultural studies, and modern history more broadly.
Re-thinking the Literacy Divide in Language Education in Senegal
This book examines literacy education in Senegal. It assesses some of the impacts of French policies on the overall Senegalese system of education, including some of the language policies championed by a cohort of Senegalese authorities from 1960 until 2012. It begins with a definition of the concept of literacy education in general to briefly set the scene of the early resistance this encountered in West Africa, particularly in Senegal. It discusses the major language policies undertaken by presidents Leopold Sedar Senghor, Abdou Diouf, and Abdoulaye Wade. Finally, the book assesses the major impacts of France's literacy policies on the current system of education in Senegal and proposes solutions on how to help Senegal and the rest of the West African countries put in place a rigorous literacy education that benefits their population.
Verbless Sentences in Spoken Italian
The book deals with the analysis of the expression of Grammatical Relations in spoken Italian verbless sentences. Unlike previous studies, this corpus-driven research aims at showing that it is possible to identify Grammatical-Relations in verbless sentences and that their encoding marks are non-canonical, as it occurs in verbal sentences which present non-prototypical arguments. Moreover, it demonstrates that the spoken language is a privileged field of observation for the analysis of systemic grammatical phenomena which are not always evident in written language.

Who is involved and why in the linguistic landscapes in educational contexts? How are agency and activism reflected in educationscapes? These questions and more are addressed in the various contributions in this volume, thus expanding the boundaries of educationscapes through enquiries that focus on educational agency and activism. In particular, the collection sheds light on linguistic, semiotic and spatial agency and activism in different educational contexts around the world. By focusing on agency as social practice and activism as act to change, the studies broaden our understanding of the actors, and how they mobilize their linguistic and semiotic resources to shape the educationscape. The volume advances the study of linguistic landscapes in educational contexts and offers a critical approach to reflect on inequality, power and decolonialization of languages in educational spaces, as well as the professional development of future teachers.

One of the most well-known potential forgeries is SG-65 Kleines Schulerloch, which has provoked controversies and debates among scientists of various disciplines since its discovery. Due to the approach new results could be made, leading to a revised edition entry of the inscription.
New Perspectives on Languages in Contact
This publication examines the complex phenomenon of language contact in its various facets, both for its subject matter and for the variety of interrelationships that come into play, especially as a consequence of its close links with English. The data are mainly drawn from Peninsular Spanish, but also from overseas areas such as the Canary Islands and the United States. Contact with geographically and culturally neighboring languages such as French and Italian is another focus. Given the interdisciplinarity of this field of study, the book will also be of interest to researchers in other areas of linguistics, such as lexicology and lexicography, sociolinguistics, language planning and the history of Spanish and English.
Storytelling as a Cultural Practice
Storytelling as a cultural practice permeates all phases and areas of human life and opens up possible worlds. From their earliest days, children grow into a culture of storytelling, acquire language and literature, develop writing skills, and learn to communicate through storytelling in multimodal ways: orally and in writing, by playing, drawing, designing, singing, dancing and more. Through the process of narrating, experiences are structured, identities are formed, social contexts are shaped, and desires and futures are imagined. Narrative connects different times in history, various disciplinary fields in education and diverse linguistic-cultural spaces, but it also requires time and space itself. Against the background of an educational landscape that is currently competence-oriented, the question arises as to what role the art of storytelling plays in educational contexts, and what possibilities it opens up for learning. This edited volume aims to address this question, theoretically and empirically, from pedagogical and linguistic perspectives.

Explorations Into Language, Literature and Culture
Over the past 25 years, previously separate fields of linguistic research have moved closer together, resulting in constructive collaborations: Cognitive Sociolinguistics draws on the framework of Cognitive Linguistics to investigate social factors in linguistic variation. Linguistic Landscape studies merge Semiotics and Sociolinguistics. Critical Discourse Studies link ideological dimensions of language to general conceptual principles. Language pedagogy is constantly informed by developments in Applied Linguistics. Furthermore, there is lively communication with neighbouring disciplines such as Literary and Cultural Studies. The present volume reflects this fruitful fluidity. It is a tribute to the linguist Martin P羹tz, whose work has always been guided by this interdisciplinary spirit.
Linguistic Encoding & Decoding in Global Contexts
The Book of Proceedings features a selection of papers presented at the 54th Linguistics Colloquium: "Linguistic Encoding / Decoding in Global Contexts," held from September 19th-22nd, 2019, at the Institute of Foreign Languages, Moscow City University (Moscow, Russia). The volume includes 23 papers covering a range of linguistic topics, including cognitive semantics, historical linguistics, stylistics, pragmatics, translation studies, and communication studies.
Translation and Translating in German Studies
Translation and Translating in German Studies is a collection of essays in honour of Professor Raleigh Whitinger, a well-loved scholar of German literature, an inspiring teacher, and an exceptional editor and translator. Its twenty chapters, written by Canadian and international experts explore new perspectives on translation and German studies as they inform processes of identity formation, gendered representations, visual and textual mediations, and teaching and learning practices.Translation (as a product) and translating (as a process) function both as analytical categories and as objects of analysis in literature, film, dance, architecture, history, second-language education, and study-abroad experiences. The volume arches from theory and genres more traditionally associated with translation (i.e., literature, philosophy) to new media (dance, film) and experiential education, and identifies pressing issues and themes that are increasingly discussed and examined in the context of translation. This study will be invaluable to university and college faculty working in the disciplines in German studies as well as in translation, cultural studies, and second-language education. Its combination of theoretical and practical explorations will allow readers to view cultural texts anew and invite educators to revisit long-forgotten or banished practices, such as translation in (auto)biographical writing and in the German language classroom.
(Critical) Discourse Studies and the (New?) Normal
In recent years, norms, normalities, and normativities have been disrupted. Although the idea of "normal" is local and subjective, norms are essential to social and collective behaviours, thus the meanings, ideologies, and relationships of power that structure those behaviours. At the same time, the disruption of norms can create disagreements about what is "normal" and inspire novel ways of being. This volume explores - from various discourse-analytic perspectives - the complex relationships between norms and discourse, and draws attention to the thematically and methodologically pluralistic work in Discourse Studies investigating these relationships across various social domains.
Strategies of Inclusion and Exclusion in Online and Offline Interaction
This volume deals with the interplay between personal identity and language, with a special focus on interactions involving political correctness, ideological positioning and minority groups. Differently from many studies adopting only either an abstract observational perspective or a militant one, this volume aims at describing identity construction as an interactional practice, in order to offer a comprehensive and varied picture of how communicative practices may either facilitate or hinder effective interaction. Processes of community building, (collective) identity construction, and ingroup/outgroup strategies are discussed by scholars of different disciplines (philosophy of language, linguistics and sociology) through the analysis of both linguistic and multimodal resources in online and offline interactions.
