A phenomenon of twenty-first-century bookmaking, Oliver Jeffers's energy and curiosity has driven an extraordinary career that shows no sign of slowing. Only in his forties, he has published an array of hugely popular books, both as illustrator and author-illustrator, including How to Catch a Star and Begin Again. This overview of his life and work so far will chart his passion for the environment and his quest to understand humanity's major challenges, and the impact this has had on his creative and intellectual output.The list of Jeffers's accomplishments is long and glittering: he has been granted numerous one-man shows both in the United Kingdom and the United States and was appointed an MBE in 2022 for services to the arts. There are numerous eye conditions but the most two common retinal conditions are Age- Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), which the sharp, central vision and a leading cause of vision loss among people age 50 and aged, there are two types ofAMD are wet AMD (Choroidal neovascularization (CNV)) and dry AMD (DRUSEN).Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), which is a complication of diabetes that can affect the fovea and it caused by fluid accumulation in the macula. thus, early discovery of conditions is a critical significance. The goal of this thesis is implementation of deep learning model used to detect four types of retinal cases (NORMAL, CNV, DME, and DRUSEN) by using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to Avoid manual diagnostic errors and help doctors make faster, and more accurate diagnoses.
Hiroshi Yoshida Travels
Hiroshi Yoshida (吉田 博, Yoshida Hiroshi, September 19, 1876 - April 5, 1950) was a 20th-century Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker. Along with Hasui Kawase, he is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style, and is noted especially for his landscape prints. Yoshida made numerous trips around the world, with the aim of getting to know different artistic expressions and making works of different landscapes. He traveled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the United States.Yoshida was known to be meticulous about the process and quality of his finished prints. He did not give his prints the "seal of approval" or the stamp of his name, "jizuri" (self-print), unless he was extremely satisfied with the end result. In 1925, he hired a group of professional carvers and printers, and established his own studio. Prints were made under his close supervision. Yoshida combined the ukiyo-e collaborative system with the sōsaku-hanga principle of "artist's prints", and formed a third school, separating himself from the shin-hanga and sōsaku-hanga movement. At the age of 73, Yoshida took his last sketching trip to Izu and Nagaoka and painted his last works The Sea of Western Izu and The Mountains of Izu. He became sick on the trip and returned to Tokyo where he died on 5 April, 1950, at his home.

Resilience as Heritage in Asia
Resilience as Heritage in Asia analyzes forms of collective resilience through manifestations of strength-in-fragility in selected communities in Asia (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand). Persistent resistance to communal erasure taking place through repressive policies and commercialized, multinational urban development insensitive to local communities and values often presents an uphill battle. Some of these collective efforts to survive through persistent everyday actions, encounters, and constant struggles have successful outcomes, while others are ephemeral at best. The authors argue that persisting vernacular spaces located between resistance and co-optation are themselves a form of local cultural heritage in the rapidly urbanizing region. Recognizing these nonconformist forms of resilience as heritage acknowledges the creativity involved in challenging social and political inequalities. Supporting the cultural autonomy of local communities by acknowledging resilience as heritage contributes to social justice in the region.

Point Blank (Quick Studies) is the first major publication of Bob Dylan's artwork in over a decade, featuring nearly 100 never-before-seen drawings. Making History with Manuscripts in Medieval and Early Modern Europe
This volume interrogates the role of the manuscript medium in conveying history to medieval and early modern readers. The contributors adopt a capacious understanding of "history" to explore history-writing in its materiality from a variety of methodological and disciplinary perspectives. The core contentions of this book are that the material features of manuscripts helped shaping historical narratives and defining history conceptually, and that therefore, the makers of these manuscripts played an instrumental role in history-writing alongside authors. Ranging from the ninth to the sixteenth centuries and comprising materials from across Western Europe in Latin and the vernaculars, the ten chapters of this volume uncover stakes and strategies tied to highly specific contexts, such as late thirteenth-century Corbie or fifteenth-century Zurich, yet partaking in a shared practice of history-writing with manuscripts. Manuscript makers "made" history through layout, rewriting, illumination, compilation, choice of script, and annotation, and conferred history-writing its material dimension. This volume therefore situates the writing of history in its material dimension and invites us to consider medieval and early modern historiography in its medium.

The richly illustrated story of a brief yet pivotal encounter in Paris between Frida Kahlo and Mary Reynolds, two luminaries of the Surrealist movement In February 1939, while visiting Paris at the invitation of writer André Breton, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) became sick and convalesced at the home of American expatriate Mary Reynolds (1891-1950), an avant-garde bookbinder, collector of Surrealist artist books, and partner of Marcel Duchamp. This book traces the story of Kahlo and Reynolds's connection and its influence on their work, even after the friendship had elapsed. Kahlo and Reynolds's intense encounter unfolds in this volume through the artworks they each made, their shared exploration of Reynolds's expansive Surrealist library, and letters from Kahlo to her lover, American photographer Nickolas Muray, in which she recounted her time in Paris. Based in Jingdezhen, the world-famous capital of porcelain production, she has developed new methods of creation through enduring partnerships with teams of skilled technicians and artisans, allowing her to push the limits of this most challenging of materials. 2024 sees the exhibition Expressions in Blue, Monumental Porcelain by Felicity Aylieff come to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Explores how the art world navigated North American free trade. The 1989 Canada-US Free Trade Agreement and 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement reinvented the concept of North America as a cohesive whole, united by free trade. But within the bold concept of continental unity lay a paradox. While art was mobilized to frame the new narrative, culture itself was explicitly excluded from the agreements that implemented this vision. Trading on Art brings culture to the foreground by examining how artworks, exhibitions, and museum programs from the 1980s to 2010 mediated North American free trade, from government-supported cultural diplomacy initiatives to activist art that confronted impending US hegemony. Sarah E.K. Smith reveals how Canadian artists engaged with, contested, and reflected on free trade, paying particular attention to the ways in which art was used to forge ties between Canada and Mexico and to circulate ideas about North American identity. Her nuanced analysis convincingly makes the case for the centrality of art in conceptualizing continental unity.

You don't need to be a technically good artist to use art as a vehicle for healing or self-realisation. All you need is your preferred art medium and a willingness to move across the page in whatever way you're called. Plants by Numbers
This open access book takes a queer, feminist, and decolonial technoscience approach to the ecologies that emerge from our entanglements with nonhumans (air, rocks, algae, trees, soil and plants) and computational hard/software. In Plants by Numbers, artists and theorists working with computation address the urgent need to think beyond the human paradigm, opening up new fields of debate that question the troubled relationship between ecosystems and human technology.Organised around three key themes--techno-nature entanglements, plants as resistant agents, and becoming-with-plants--the volume provides a vital pathway through complex theoretical ideas that inform the practices of artists working in the fields of computation and ecology.Fusing art theoretical and art practice approaches, the contributors describe how we might design, make and imagine computational processes differently, or otherwise, through the co-production of artworks with plants. Ambedo
Ambedo is a luxurious hardcover book that collects the very best paintings and drawings by Tran Nguyen completed from 2009 to 2018. It showcases her sensuous and personal work that was done for gallery exhibitions, as well as her advertising, book and editorial illustration projects completed as a freelance artist. Over 120 paintings are featured along with nearly a dozen preliminary sketches. An introduction by Tran opens the book, followed by her brief intimate commentary for each of her solo and group show chapters.Tran's paintings are created with a soft, delicate quality using colored pencil and acrylic on paper. She's most known for her paintings of whimsical women and melancholic landscapes, which often possess an air of fantasy and surrealism.Ambedo is a collection of all of the sweat and tears that Nguyen shed into the first decade of her career. It's a recording of her progression as an artist in terms of style, technique and personal narrative. Spectres
Spectres is a curated collection of over 110 small artworks made by Tran Nguyen in the past decade. Each painting is a means of exploration--a study whose purpose is to develop a deep understanding of new media. The works depict loosely rendered female portraits or, on seldom occasions, animals. They were created without the restraints imposed by extensive preliminaries that Tran often adheres to as part of her standard illustration process. This study series started out as an outlet for trying new ideas, materials, color palettes and substrates, without the looming pressure of perfection or deadlines. They fulfill Tran's need to be adventurous, which allows her to stumble with her brushstrokes and evolve as an artist.The time spent with each piece was brief--to capture the fleeting moments of her artistic curiosity. This series has helped Tran to freely discover unconventional and unique methods of art-making, which has been incorporated into her gallery and illustration work. This includes the application of pressed flowers and embroidery. What began with a few small-scale portrait paintings has become the stepping stones to hone the technical skills that inform her larger pieces. The works in this book serve as guides into Tran's artistic exploration.Spectres is produced with a premium spot color for interior text, includes blue gilt edges, and a blue foil stamp for the Spectres title on the front cover.
Fresh Window

'Let Us Have Peace'
"Let Us Have Peace" offers a detailed numismatic, art- and socio-historical discussion of 302 Indian peace medals and related objects that entered the cabinet of the American Numismatic Society between 1883 and 2018. The medals represent an important and often under-utilized resource for the history of relationships between the Native peoples of North America and the colonial powers of France, Great Britain, and Spain, as well as their successors, Canada and the United States of America. Despite being inanimate objects of silver and copper, the Indian peace medals in the ANS collection are incomparable storytellers, each offering its own tale of the past that gives us insight into the remarkable lives of the medals' creators, distributors, and recipients.

Lorna Simpson
The first publication on the painting practice of artist Lorna Simpson, whose work combines abstraction and figuration to highlight complexities of memory and representation This revelatory first look at the paintings of Lorna Simpson (b. 1960), an artist who has worked primarily as a photographer for much of her career, examines this significant new development in her practice over the last decade. Simpson's recent works, midway between photography and painting, advance her incisive explorations of gender, race, and history through bodies that emerge and disappear--peering from inky surfaces or dissolving into landscapes of melting ice. Her paintings draw on documentary photographs and images from vintage Ebony and Jet magazines, combining screen-printed collages of found images with washes of colorful ink on fiberglass, wood, or clayboard. Lexicon of Fabricant Dies on Rhodian Amphora Stamps. Volume 3
In the Hellenistic Period, Rhodes played an important role in the Mediterranean trade. Rhodian wine was transported in stamped amphorae produced both on the island and in the Peraea. Following the Lexicon of Eponym Dies on Rhodian Amphora Stamps (4 volumes, 2015-2017), we present here the third of four volumes on Rhodian fabricants, with 1492 dies belonging to 127 fabricants whose names start with the letters from eta to mu. The total collection will overpass 5248 dies endorsed by about 485 fabricants. The stamps belong mostly to the Benaki Collection hosted in the Graeco-Roman Museum of Alexandria, and from the excavations in the city both made by the Museum and CEAlex. For dies which do not exist in Alexandria, we present samples from other cities in Egypt as well as from Delos, Athens National Museum, Athenian Agora and some previously published stamps from excavation sites in other Eastern Mediterranean consumption centres. The stamps are presented in the alphabetical order of the fabricants. In the matrix names, numbers do not refer to any chronological dating order or stylistic difference but to the order of our registration. Under the title of each fabricant, following some brief information - the activity period of the fabricant dated by means of his connection with the eponyms relying mostly on the chronology established by Gerald Finkielsztejn, the total number of matrices naming the fabricant, the eventual associations with eponyms -, the different identified dies naming him/her are presented with a photograph and a rubbing, beginning with the dies accompanied by month-names in alphabetical order followed by the dies without month names. We hope that this lexicon will help the archaeologists to identify the stamps found in their excavations as well as the specialists of amphorology and ancient trade.
