God is in Control
This book is about art, works by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and about Richard Lee Barton (1952-2021), the American artist who also lived in Brabant for a long time, not far from Nuenen, once the hometown of the Van family Gogh. Although the works are very different, there are plenty of similarities in the background of both artists, the fight against Catholicism is one of them, neither of them was really accepted here, what a farmer does not know he simply does not eat, but that's beside the point. Both were involved in the faith and came from a family of pastors, many of Richard's and family's ancestors were pastors, you could almost say that the Bartons Christianized America, although the most important work in South America was perhaps done by Jan van Herpen, once a priest and missionary. Read all the complications in this book and try to understand how two worlds came together, its magic has a deep meaning, and that was precisely what Richard tried to portray in his paintings, something he succeeded wonderfully well in, in the second part of this series more about that, this is just the beginning.

Nilo Santiago: My Art, My Life is a fascinating exploration of artwork by artist Nilo M. Santiago. A native of Manila, Philippines, Mr. Santiago received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. Upon moving to the United States, Mr. Santiago furthered his education at Howard University in Washington, D.C.Mr. Santiago's extensive travels provided inspiration for his art. He was deeply attracted to capturing the vibrancy of life in colorful paintings. Alois Riegl Collected Essays
Alois Riegl was an Austrian art historian, and is considered a member of the Vienna School of Art History. He was one of the major figures in the establishment of art history as a self-sufficient academic discipline, and one of the most influential practitioners of formalism. In 1883 Riegl wrote his dissertation on the Romanesque Church of St. Jacob, Regensburg (manuscript lost). He joined the staff of the Austrian Museum of Decorative Arts (Institut f羹r ?sterreichische Geschichtsforchung) and began writing his Habilitation, Die Mittelalterliche Kalenderillustration, in 1889, which examined the Hellenistic tradition in medieval calendar manuscripts. In 1886 he began curatorial training in the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, succeeding another Thausing student, Franz Wickhoff, in 1887 working for the next ten years as curator of textiles at the Austrian museum. Riegl's first two books, Altorientalische Teppiche and Stilfragen: Grundlegungen zu einer Geschichte der Ornamentik, 1891 and 1893 respectively, follow from his work in the museum. Even in these first books, his interest in theory as well as an interdisciplinary view of art history was evident. Stilfragen gained Riegl an extraordinarius position at the University of Vienna in 1894. He continued his interest in common art objects-what were then considered minor arts-in his next book, Volkskunst, Hausfleiss und Hausindustrie, 1894, which employed economic theory in constructing their history. In 1894 and 1895 he began lecturing on baroque art, a period still largely viewed as decadent, ushering in (together with the work of Cornelius Gurlitt) a new evaluation of the stylistic period. Beholding
Beholding considers the spatially situated encounter between artwork and spectator. It argues that artworks created for specific places or conditions structure a reciprocal encounter, which is completed by the presence of a beholder. These are works which demand the 'beholder's share', but not, as Ernst Gombrich famously claimed, to sustain an illusion. Rather, Beholding reconfigures Gombrich's notion of the beholder's share as a set of 'licensed' imaginative and cognitive projections. Each chapter frames a particular work of art from the remit of a complementary theoretical text. The book establishes a transhistorical notion of the spatially situated encounter, and considers the role of the architectural host in bringing the beholder's orientation into play. The book engages a diverse range of practices: from Renaissance painting and group portraiture to intermedia practices of installation and performance art. Written within the broad remit of reception aesthetics, the book proposes a phenomenological theory of beholding, argued through an in-depth examination of artworks and their spatial contexts, selected for their explanatory potential. These various encounters allocate different constitutive roles to the beholder, bringing not only spatial and temporal orientation into play, but also a repertoire of anticipated ideas and beliefs.

Architecture in Ancient Central Italy
Architecture in Ancient Central Italy takes studies of individual elements and sites as a starting point to reconstruct a much larger picture of architecture in western central Italy as an industry, and to position the result in space (in the Mediterranean world and beyond) and time (from the second millennium BC to Late Antiquity). This volume demonstrates that buildings in pre-Roman Italy have close connections with Bronze Age and Roman architecture, with practices in local and distant societies, and with the natural world and the cosmos. It also argues that buildings serve as windows into the minds and lives of those who made and used them, revealing the concerns and character of communities in early Etruria, Rome, and Latium. Architecture consequently emerges as a valuable historical source, and moreover a part of life that shaped society as much as reflected it.

Drawing from primary source materials and various scholarship in the field (philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, museum studied, art history, cultural studies), it provides an analysis of the threads of white supremacy which run through early scholarship and understandings of Black African object within the United States and how scholars use the objects to reinforce narratives of "primitive" Black Africa and civilized, advanced white Europe and the United States. To do this, the book (1) explores white Western aesthetic ideas and contrasts them with Black African aesthetic ideas, (2) explores the history of the use of Black African objects by white Western collectors, artists in and around the Harlem Renaissance, (3) explores the history of the influence of white Western aesthetics on Black collectors, artists, and groups in and around the Harlem Renaissance, and (4) explores how Black African aesthetics as white mythology impacts aesthetics beyond the art world through advertising, commercial popularization with Black Power moment, and today with films like Black Panther and videos starring Beyonce. This book seeks to bring together previous scholarship, white Western and Black African aesthetic theory, historical documents, and archival research for primary documents that highlight how white supremacy runs through Western scholarship and ideology and how this presents a distorted, degraded view of Black Africa and its people not only for white people but for Black people as well.

Dr. Gilmore is a retired infectious disease specialist living in Minneapolis, MN. He is the happy father of four sons (one who tragically died in infancy) and five grandchildren. Dr. Gilmore is a joyous member of Third Way Church in St. Paul, MN, and an advocate for peacemaking and justice.In addition to Victims, The Virus, and The Ventilator, this pediatric infectious disease consultant and author has written four books of poetry from his more than 800 poems (Wisdom of the Weeping Widow, Love and Lust-filled Lullabies, Bullies and Their Prey, and Warring Tides-the first two are available on the Internet. His writing career began composing poems while he had a prolonged hospital stay for sepsis and newly diagnosed leukemia in 2016. He has had a difficult life journey punctuated by tragedy and saving miracles, which undergird and guide his writing. Still, he is sustained by his faith and hope with the support of his friends and family. His autobiography should become available in 2024 called The Diary of a Dead Man: One Man's Gauntlet Through Life.

Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. Improvision
Central to the development of abstract art, in the early decades of the 20th century was the conception (most famously articulated by Walter Pater) that the most appropriate paradigm for non-figurative art was music. The assumption has always been that this model was most effectively understood as Western art music (classical music).However, the musical form that was abstract art's true twin is jazz, a music that originated with African Americans, but which had a profound impact on European artistic sensibilities. European intellectuals of the 1950s dismissed American culture as nothing more than cowboy movies and the A-bomb. In response, American cultural diplomats tried to show that the United States had something to offer beyond military might and commercial exploitation. Through literary magazines, traveling art exhibits, touring musical shows, radio programs, book translations, and conferences, they deployed the revolutionary aesthetics of modernism to prove--particularly to the leftists whose Cold War loyalties they hoped to secure--that American art and literature were aesthetically rich and culturally significant.
