This Is Me, Is That You?
A psychoanalyst's sensitive exploration of schizophrenia through the stories and words of three women patients In the spring of 1994, psychoanalyst-in-training Steven Poser arrived for his clinical internship at one of the last remaining nineteenth-century mental hospitals in New England. Intending to observe and offer compassionate care to the most chronically ill patients, he ended up staying for two years, forming close therapeutic relationships with three female patients suffering from schizophrenia, "Agnes," "Mrs. Lutzky," and "Lucia." Drawing from his clinical diary, Poser presents his encounters with the women in their own words, each speaking in a poetry of her own invention. Rather than treat the women as casualties of their illness or their words and actions as nonsensical, Poser sees his patients as dignified and struggling people--and not as markedly different from the rest of us as we might think. This is a deeply human book about the frailty and importance of human connection and the intangibly healing force of being heard.

Life History and Child Development
The biological life history (LH) theory has been increasingly utilized in psychology, especially in developmental psychology. However, there has not been a comprehensive text on the topic thatalso addresses applications in psychology. This Element fills this void. Organized into five sections, it initially delineates and explains the species-general concepts and principles forming LH theory, emphasizing that, although derived from observations between species, they can be used to explain individual differences within human populations. Grounded in the assumption of phenotypic plasticity, subsequent LH research conducted in psychology covers a wide range of cognitive and social behavioral domains. This body of LH research is discussed next. The Element concludes by presenting four broad recommendations, which, comprising one-quarter of the total content, provide specific directions for future LH research in psychology.

The Development and Organization of Meaning
Drawing from extensive developmental research, this book highlights the significance of meaning in shaping individual worldviews within relationships, from infancy onwards. By focusing on behavior and experience, it reshapes our understanding of pertinent psychological phenomena, tracing the emergence of self, self-regulation, causality comprehension, peer relationships, adolescent experiences, and lifelong adaptation. Using developmental psychology and compelling clinical cases, the authors emphasize the central role of 'meaning' as a unifying theme, addressing diverse topics such as resilience, intergenerational behavior patterns, trauma impacts, and existential meaning. Ideal for students and professionals in psychology, counselling, and social work, as well as researchers and clinicians in related fields, this book integrates existing theories and empirical evidence to illuminate various aspects of human development and adaptation.

Psychopathy Unmasked
Why our fascination with psychopaths is scientifically wrongheaded, and how the criminal justice system has misused the controversial science of psychopathy. Psychopathy is a widely acknowledged personality disorder associated with callous unemotional traits and antisocial behaviors. Psychopathic persons are described as dangerous predators incapable of empathy and moral intuition, and while they are believed to only make up around 1 percent of the general population, forensic experts claim they are disproportionately responsible for the majority of violent crimes. Today, psychopathy assessments are being widely used in the legal system to inform a variety of judicial decisions. In Psychopathy Unmasked, Rasmus Rosenberg Larsen provides a critical rebuttal of psychopathy and its legal use, scrutinizing central claims about the diagnosis that have traditionally served to justify its role in the criminal justice system. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of offenders undergo a psychopathy assessment each year in North America. This book surveys and discusses contemporary developments in psychopathy research where studies have consistently shown that psychopathic persons, contrary to mainstream beliefs, are not meaningfully more dangerous than, or psychologically different from, ordinary non-psychopathic criminals. Based on these disqualifying findings, Larsen argues that we should end the use of psychopathy assessments in the legal system.
Sharpening Psychology’s Concepts
A big problem of psychology in the tradition of C.G. Jung is that many concepts and orientations are being used by its adherents that are not really compatible with a true psychology because they have their home ground in other orientations.
Life Changers
Life Changers: (More Twice Born Men) Narratives of a Recent Movement in the Spirit of Personal Religion by Harold Begbie, is a sequel to his Twice Born Men, which we have also republished. However, this book changes focus from the Salvation Army's work in the slums of London, to focus on Frank Buchman's Oxford Group. The stories Mr. Begbie gathers in this volume come from a completely different walk of life, the elite universities. He interviews young students who attended Oxford and Cambridge, as well as a few Americans from Yale and Princeton. Some served in World War One, and were scarred by the experience. Others had already gone to seminary or served as missionaries and lost their faith.Every narrative describes, in their own words, how these young men came to have a spiritual awakening, to be reborn and live a changed life. Their first hand stories give precise details about some of the elements of the Oxford Group, the "Four Absolutes," and the "Five C's." When appropriate, we added footnotes describing how these resemble the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions. This is a new edition of the public domain book originally published in 1927.This new edition includes: a new Foreword written by the PublisherMany new footnotes added by the Publisher. Some of these merely trace out allusions to books and authors referenced by the storytellers. Some footnotes cite passages from the "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous, to demonstrate the almost identical wording and ideas.New layout, formatting, and typesetting.Bulkington Book's mission is to build a bridge into the past, before film, television, copyright, and internet swallowed up the world. We found this story worthy of revival, and we hope you find it worth your while.

You're tired, exhausted, and you're upset. How dare he stomp around and have no regard for your feelings or personal space? Rationality plays no part with Misophonia. Logically, you know he has no idea how loud he's being - but the response is the same. Misophonia is a neurological condition that causes a fight/flight/freeze response to certain audial and visual stimuli. Full of Sound and Fury was written by a suffer of Misophonia in order to help spread information and coping tips. Including interviews with real sufferers, the book aims to put names to a disorder that is known by few. Full of Sound and Fury is a book about Misophonia's life impact. Shaylynn Hayes-Raymond writes about her experiences, as well as others', in a way that can teach the general public about the disorder and resonate with sufferers.
