Finally Hopeful

Rodale Books 出版
2025/04/13 出版

A groundbreaking personalized model for psychiatric treatment of depression that helps readers identify their body's unique interplay of nutritional factors, biochemistry, lifestyle and genetics for effective and lasting care. "In this timely and transformative book, Dr. James Greenblatt boldly dismantles the outdated paradigm that seeks only to suppress symptoms with one-size-fits-all medications."--David Perlmutter, MD, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Grain Brain"If you or someone you love struggles with depression, this book is essential reading."--Mark Hyman, MD, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Young Forever and The UltraMind Solution Major depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, affecting more than 21 million American adults and 3.7 million of our youth each year. And yet, the current one-size-fits-all medical model for psychiatric treatment of depression does not work for a significant portion of patients. Antidepressant medications are often treated as a magic bullet, but the truth is that depression is a complex mental and physical condition, influenced by nutrient intake and absorption, body chemistry, metabolism, genetics, hormones, food sensitivities, stressful life events, social support, and many other factors. In Finally Hopeful, functional psychiatrist Dr. James Greenblatt offers a new model of treatment that acknowledges that depression is not "all in your head," but in your body. Dr. Greenblatt provides a unique guide to optimizing the nutrients, hormones, neurotransmitters, and many other biochemical factors that play a major role in most cases of depression. It is vital to address these physical factors using testing that customizes treatment to the individual, and Finally Hopeful outlines what tests you need; how to read the results for practical action; and how to work in conjunction with your physician. You'll also gain key insights into antidepressants and feel empowered in seeking the answers you deserve. A functional psychiatry approach recognizes that depression has many causes and often requires a range of therapies, both drug and non-drug. Finally Hopeful makes the whole-body approach available to everyone, delivering real hope and relief.

Psychoanalysis and Feminism

Verso 出版
2025/04/13 出版

Psychoanalysis and Feminism presents a profound and groundbreaking case for Freud's writing as an indispensable part of feminist thought. As Juliet Mitchell argues, if we are truly interested in understanding and challenging women's oppression, we cannot ignore psychoanalysis. Original and provocative, Mitchell's book remains an essential addition to the feminist canon and a radical re-evaluation of psychoanalytic theory.

Online Sexual Offending

2025/04/10 出版

This second edition takes a multidisciplinary and practical approach to online sexual offending, providing psychologists and other professionals with the knowledge to understand this issue and the tools to solve it. Clinical and forensic psychologist Michael C. Seto keeps readers up with this ever-evolving problem as technology advances and presents new risks, particularly for children and adolescents. He reviews updated research on topics like child pornography, sexting and other sexual content generated by minors, online sexual solicitation and trafficking, digital exhibitionism and voyeurism, AI-generated pornography, deepfakes, and virtual sex dolls. He also describes new and revised tools and guidelines for assessing and treating perpetrators--particularly those committing offenses involving children and adolescents--and preventive measures to help at-risk individuals and to guide parents, minors, and bystanders to protect children and adolescents online. In addition to empirical research on various types of online sexual offending, Seto explores what drives perpetrators to engage in these behaviors, focusing particularly on the motivation-facilitation model.

This Is Me, Is That You?

Steven,Poser  著
Ingram 出版
2025/04/10 出版

A psychoanalyst's sensitive exploration of schizophrenia through the stories and words of three women patients In the spring of 1994, psychoanalyst-in-training Steven Poser arrived for his clinical internship at one of the last remaining nineteenth-century mental hospitals in New England. Intending to observe and offer compassionate care to the most chronically ill patients, he ended up staying for two years, forming close therapeutic relationships with three female patients suffering from schizophrenia, "Agnes," "Mrs. Lutzky," and "Lucia." Drawing from his clinical diary, Poser presents his encounters with the women in their own words, each speaking in a poetry of her own invention. Rather than treat the women as casualties of their illness or their words and actions as nonsensical, Poser sees his patients as dignified and struggling people--and not as markedly different from the rest of us as we might think. This is a deeply human book about the frailty and importance of human connection and the intangibly healing force of being heard.

Safe and Sound

Sounds True 出版
2025/04/08 出版

From Polyvagal Theory pioneer Dr. Stephen Porges comes a new resource sharing the origin and best practices of his groundbreaking new protocol, and highlighting real-life stories of transformation and healing. We all want to live and share our truth, but when we don't feel safe, it can be impossible to fully express or even know who we really are. The nervous system impacts daily well-being, to our benefit or detriment. Understanding how may be key to truly knowing yourself and better supporting the challenges holding you back. "When the nervous system regains its capacity to feel safe," say Porges and Onderko, "individuals can express themselves genuinely, engage comfortably with others, and embrace a life of greater openness and ease." The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a groundbreaking therapy based in Polyvagal Theory, which looks at the role the autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve play in regulating health and behavior. SSP involves listening to music that's been filtered to prioritize frequencies of human speech, providing auditory input that enables the nervous system to reset to its homeostatic state. Porges and Onderko offer a glimpse into this innovative approach, highlighting not only the origin of SSP and its best practices but also real-life stories of transformation. They showcase clinical evidence demonstrating SSP's impact on emotional dysregulation, social interaction difficulty, and auditory sensitivity, providing a comprehensive understanding of its therapeutic potential. Some features and conditions addressed include: - Depression- Perfectionism- Addiction- Suicidal ideation- COVID recovery- Navigating gender identity- Living with Parkinson's disease- Hypermobility- Autism- ADHD- Dyslexia Whether patient, family member, friend, or clinician, you'll find a deeper understanding of the nervous system and tools for a more resilient experience. Illustrating the incredible range of application and how autonomic regulation can lead to significant improvements--from stress and anxiety to grief and trauma--Safe and Sound demonstrates how SSP can promote a state of safety and calm, facilitating the foundation for long-awaited healing.

Mechanisms of Change and Creativity in Nature and Culture

Ingram 出版
2025/04/07 出版

This Element is about change. Specifically, it's about the underlying mechanisms that cause change to happen, both in nature and in culture; what types there are, how they work, where they can be found, and when they come into play. The ultimate aim is to shed light on two barbed issues. First, what kind of system of change is culture and, second, what kind of change in that system counts as creativity; that is, what are the properties of the mechanisms of change when we explore unknown regions of the cultural realm. To that end, a novel theoretical framework is proposed that is based on the concept of a sightedness continuum. A sightedness framework for the mechanisms of change can integrate the three mechanisms causing gradual, adaptive, and cumulative change - evolution, learning, and development - into a single dimension and provide a clear view of how they cause change.
