Psychoanalytic Group Psychotherapy
In this comprehensive volume, Richard M. Billow provides a thorough introduction to group psychotherapy from a psychoanalytic perspective. Billow integrates contemporary psychoanalytic thinking with Freudian and Kleinian core concepts, as well as Bion's early group theory and his later metapsychology, to provide a holistic overview of group therapy and its potential benefits for patients. He incorporates major psychoanalytic thinkers outside the American relational mainstream -- such as Lacan, Laplanche, Kaes, Foulkes, and Pichon Riviere, as well as his own prominent contributions to the field - to provide a unique and interdisciplinary overview. Throughout the chapters, readers will be introduced to challenging clinical experiences that illustrate some of the similarities and differences among psychoanalytic and other psychodynamic group approaches. Offering guidelines on how to harness and conduct the group, Billow provides exceptional insight into the veritable benefits of maintaining an analytic stance within the clinical setting. Written in a clear and accessible style, this book is a vital tool for students and professionals interested in a thorough overview of psychoanalytically based group treatments.

The Science of Weird Shit
An accessible and gratifying introduction to the world of paranormal beliefs and bizarre experiences. Ghostly encounters, alien abduction, reincarnation, talking to the dead, UFO sightings, inexplicable coincidences, out-of-body and near-death experiences. Are these legitimate phenomena? If not, how should we go about understanding them? In this fascinating book, Chris French investigates paranormal claims to discover what lurks behind this "weird shit." French provides authoritative, evidence-based explanations for a wide range of superficially mysterious phenomena, and then goes further to draw out lessons with wider applications to many other aspects of modern society where critical thinking is urgently needed. Using academic, comprehensive, logical, and, at times, mathematical approaches, The Science of Weird Shit convincingly debunks ESP, communicating with the dead, and alien abduction claims, among other phenomena. All the while, however, French maintains that our belief in such phenomena is neither ridiculous nor trivial; if anything, such claims can tell us a great deal about the human mind if we pay them the attention they are due. Filled with light-bulb moments and a healthy dose of levity, The Science of Weird Shit is a clever, memorable, and gratifying read you won't soon forget.
Jung and Spirituality
An exploration of spirituality in the modern world using Carl Jung's insights Jung believed that a spiritual life lies buried in everyone's unconscious and could be brought before consciousness with therapeutic results and that rationality and hubris prevented many in the modern world from acknowledging the spiritual aspects of our lives, and repressing the spiritual was as harmful as repressing the sexual. This book contains a series of chapters which explore the applications and ramifications of Jung's psychospiritual theory. Starting with how to bring back spirituality into religion, it then looks at the activation of 'earth energies' and the primordial mind by bringing the spirit back into nature. It proceeds to examine the spiritual journey, dreams, the individuation of god, and the healing power of spirituality.
Outsmarting Death Two Times
The discussion about no life or life after death can be considered solved after reading this book. Because neuroscientists have recognized that between the medically even with modern methods determined end of life and the really final death still a span exists in which brain activities can be proved. These processes can also be explained theoretically with psychoanalytical understanding. It reminds of Sisyphus, who, in contrast to Oedipus, is not so well known in Freud's psychoanalysis. But Sisyphus was not only a hero regarding the severity of life, but also a role model in dying, outsmarting death twice. The narrow passage between life and death represents a life of a different kind that can be neuro-psychically grasped. And so it is no longer about a life after death, but about one while dying. This orientation probably also plays a role in Sisyphus, but it can also be used for a direct self-practice for today. With the method of Analytic Psychocatharsis the author has combined psychoanalytic and meditative procedure, which, even practiced by oneself, helps to outsmart death even today by using this span of life in dying. Because this other life can be used only who has learned it before to a large extent.

The Instability of Truth
Because brainwashing affects both the world and our observation of the world, we often don't recognize it while it's happening--unless we know where to look. As Rebecca Lemov writes in The Instability of Truth, "Brainwashing erases itself." What we call brainwashing is more common than we think; it is not so much what happens to other people as what can happen to anyone. The Instability of Truth exposes the myriad ways our minds can be controlled against our will, from the brainwashing techniques used against American POWs in North Korea to the "soft" brainwashing of social media doomscrolling and behavior-shaping. In our increasingly data-driven world, anyone can fall victim to mind control. Lemov identifies invasive forms of emotional engineering that exploit trauma and addiction to coerce and persuade in everyday life. Tracing the word "brainwashing" from deep in the files of an operative of the U.S. Office of Strategic Services in the 1950s to the pioneering research of Robert Jay Lifton, to the public trials of cult leaders and the case of Patty Hearst, Lemov also studies how the idea of mind control has spread across the globe and penetrated courtrooms, secret labs, military schools, and today's digital sites. The Instability of Truth offers lessons from mind-control episodes past and present. Truth is always subject to question in more mundane walks of life than most people believe, and Lemov equips us for the increasing challenges we face from social media, AI, and an unprecedented, global form of surveillance capitalism. The Instability of Truth develops a rigorous new understanding of both brainwashing's paradoxes and its emotional roots, by giving voice to brainwashers, the brainwashed, and third-party observers alike.

Of Nod
OF NOD is a poetic memoir in which the author describes his life's journey: struggling and overcoming mental health issues pertaining to schizophrenia; falling in love; recovering from addiction; and developing a sense of spirituality. This is essentially a story about the loss of innocence and the regaining of that innocence. "A hauntingly beautiful piece that will coax you into a journey spanning several years from innocent childhood through adulthood and the grapplings of mental illness. Poetic imagery and dreamlike passages will keep the reader turning pages, or perhaps lingering to absorb it all. This is a story of loss and discovery, of love and understanding. You will find yourself willingly lost in Mark's world as you begin to see life from his perspective. There is beauty and there is pain and there is always hope. This work will be one that you reach for again and again." a Misty Yandell review * OF NOD was previously published as a poetic novel, but in this version, the author has taken a more personal approach, editing out the fictional parts, and adding a new chapter.
ADHD In Sport

Personality Imagery Deconstruction
Personality imagery deconstruction is an innovative theory in personality psychology, grounded in Imagery Communication Psychology (ICP). This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the sources of personality imagery, as well as the significance and methods of deconstructing it for practical applications. Inspired by Chinese cultural philosophy, this approach views personality as a system rather than a collection of separate traits. Instead, personality is deconstructed into distinct, independent sub-personalities, each with its own motives, behaviours, and preferences. Through ICP, these sub-personalities emerge in the conscious mind, appearing as individual entities within a broader 'community' of the self. By consciously engaging with each sub-personality, individuals can encourage communication and harmony among them. This process allows for the transformation of negative or stagnant sub-personalities, helping to restore vitality and clarity to the overall personality. In essence, personality imagery deconstruction enables personal growth by transforming the inner dynamics of one's mental life.

Men's Silences
First published in 1992, Men's Silences represents a personal and a political attempt to break out of the narrow parameters of men's sexual politics. It focusses on men's feelings to language. The early chapters provide a social context for exploring the practice and theorizing of men's sexual politics. The book continues by developing an alternative theoretical framework for addressing male subjectivity, using Wittgenstein's theory of language and the psychoanalytic theories of Winnicott, Bion and Klein. The author argues for the centrality of the pre-oedipal mother-son relationship in the making of male subjectivity, language and identity. This book will be of interest to students of sociology, gender studies, political science and cultural studies.
