Jung and Spirituality

David,Tacey  著
Aeon Books 出版
2025/03/18 出版

An exploration of spirituality in the modern world using Carl Jung's insights Jung believed that a spiritual life lies buried in everyone's unconscious and could be brought before consciousness with therapeutic results and that rationality and hubris prevented many in the modern world from acknowledging the spiritual aspects of our lives, and repressing the spiritual was as harmful as repressing the sexual. This book contains a series of chapters which explore the applications and ramifications of Jung's psychospiritual theory. Starting with how to bring back spirituality into religion, it then looks at the activation of 'earth energies' and the primordial mind by bringing the spirit back into nature. It proceeds to examine the spiritual journey, dreams, the individuation of god, and the healing power of spirituality.

Outsmarting Death Two Times

Ingram 出版
2025/03/17 出版

The discussion about no life or life after death can be considered solved after reading this book. Because neuroscientists have recognized that between the medically even with modern methods determined end of life and the really final death still a span exists in which brain activities can be proved. These processes can also be explained theoretically with psychoanalytical understanding. It reminds of Sisyphus, who, in contrast to Oedipus, is not so well known in Freud's psychoanalysis. But Sisyphus was not only a hero regarding the severity of life, but also a role model in dying, outsmarting death twice. The narrow passage between life and death represents a life of a different kind that can be neuro-psychically grasped. And so it is no longer about a life after death, but about one while dying. This orientation probably also plays a role in Sisyphus, but it can also be used for a direct self-practice for today. With the method of Analytic Psychocatharsis the author has combined psychoanalytic and meditative procedure, which, even practiced by oneself, helps to outsmart death even today by using this span of life in dying. Because this other life can be used only who has learned it before to a large extent.

Cognitive and Social Neuroscience of Aging

2025/03/14 出版

Fully updated and revised, Cognitive and Social Neuroscience of Aging, 2nd Edition provides an accessible introduction to aging and the brain. Now with full color throughout, it includes over fifty figures illustrating key research findings and anatomical diagrams. Adopting an integrative perspective across domains of psychological function, this edition features expanded coverage of multivariate methods, moral judgments, cognitive reserve, prospective memory, event boundaries, and individual differences related to aging, including sex, race, and culture. Although many declines occur with age, cognitive neuroscience research reveals plasticity and adaptation in the brain as a normal function of aging. With this perspective in mind, the book emphasizes the ways in which neuroscience methods have enriched and changed thinking about aging.

The Instability of Truth

W. W. Norton 出版
2025/03/14 出版

Because brainwashing affects both the world and our observation of the world, we often don't recognize it while it's happening--unless we know where to look. As Rebecca Lemov writes in The Instability of Truth, "Brainwashing erases itself." What we call brainwashing is more common than we think; it is not so much what happens to other people as what can happen to anyone. The Instability of Truth exposes the myriad ways our minds can be controlled against our will, from the brainwashing techniques used against American POWs in North Korea to the "soft" brainwashing of social media doomscrolling and behavior-shaping. In our increasingly data-driven world, anyone can fall victim to mind control. Lemov identifies invasive forms of emotional engineering that exploit trauma and addiction to coerce and persuade in everyday life. Tracing the word "brainwashing" from deep in the files of an operative of the U.S. Office of Strategic Services in the 1950s to the pioneering research of Robert Jay Lifton, to the public trials of cult leaders and the case of Patty Hearst, Lemov also studies how the idea of mind control has spread across the globe and penetrated courtrooms, secret labs, military schools, and today's digital sites. The Instability of Truth offers lessons from mind-control episodes past and present. Truth is always subject to question in more mundane walks of life than most people believe, and Lemov equips us for the increasing challenges we face from social media, AI, and an unprecedented, global form of surveillance capitalism. The Instability of Truth develops a rigorous new understanding of both brainwashing's paradoxes and its emotional roots, by giving voice to brainwashers, the brainwashed, and third-party observers alike.

ADHD In Sport

Ingram 出版
2025/03/13 出版

Some athletes with ADHD describe it as their superpower; seeing that the creativity, hyperfocus and speedy decision making amplifies their potential sporting success. Other athletes with ADHD find that narrative infuriating as they try to handle executive dysfunctions, emotional dysregulation and difficulties in focusing alongside the frustrations of trying to thrive in a neurotypically designed sporting environment. This book is written with all these athletes in mind; from juniors starting out in school teams through to elites making their careers in professional sport and adults using sport to stay mentally regulated, maintain social connections and boost confidence.ADHD in Sport: Strategies for Success illuminates the ADHD brain in sporting environments, looks at the benefits of exercise on ADHD, the impact of ADHD traits on sporting performance, has chapters full of tools to help wellbeing, training and competition, information on co-occurring conditions and ADHD medication in sport and concludes with chapters for coaches, parents and partners to help them successfully support and scaffold. If you have ADHD (or spend time with those who do) then this book will give you tools, techniques and strategies to thrive and succeed in sport.

Of Nod

Mark,Murray  著
Lulu.com 出版
2025/03/13 出版

OF NOD is a poetic memoir in which the author describes his life's journey: struggling and overcoming mental health issues pertaining to schizophrenia; falling in love; recovering from addiction; and developing a sense of spirituality. This is essentially a story about the loss of innocence and the regaining of that innocence. "A hauntingly beautiful piece that will coax you into a journey spanning several years from innocent childhood through adulthood and the grapplings of mental illness. Poetic imagery and dreamlike passages will keep the reader turning pages, or perhaps lingering to absorb it all. This is a story of loss and discovery, of love and understanding. You will find yourself willingly lost in Mark's world as you begin to see life from his perspective. There is beauty and there is pain and there is always hope. This work will be one that you reach for again and again." a Misty Yandell review * OF NOD was previously published as a poetic novel, but in this version, the author has taken a more personal approach, editing out the fictional parts, and adding a new chapter.

Personality Imagery Deconstruction

Ingram 出版
2025/03/13 出版

Personality imagery deconstruction is an innovative theory in personality psychology, grounded in Imagery Communication Psychology (ICP). This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the sources of personality imagery, as well as the significance and methods of deconstructing it for practical applications. Inspired by Chinese cultural philosophy, this approach views personality as a system rather than a collection of separate traits. Instead, personality is deconstructed into distinct, independent sub-personalities, each with its own motives, behaviours, and preferences. Through ICP, these sub-personalities emerge in the conscious mind, appearing as individual entities within a broader 'community' of the self. By consciously engaging with each sub-personality, individuals can encourage communication and harmony among them. This process allows for the transformation of negative or stagnant sub-personalities, helping to restore vitality and clarity to the overall personality. In essence, personality imagery deconstruction enables personal growth by transforming the inner dynamics of one's mental life.

Men's Silences

Routledge 出版
2025/03/13 出版

First published in 1992, Men's Silences represents a personal and a political attempt to break out of the narrow parameters of men's sexual politics. It focusses on men's feelings to language. The early chapters provide a social context for exploring the practice and theorizing of men's sexual politics. The book continues by developing an alternative theoretical framework for addressing male subjectivity, using Wittgenstein's theory of language and the psychoanalytic theories of Winnicott, Bion and Klein. The author argues for the centrality of the pre-oedipal mother-son relationship in the making of male subjectivity, language and identity. This book will be of interest to students of sociology, gender studies, political science and cultural studies.

What We Truly Need

Dieter,Adler  著
Ibidem Press 出版
2025/03/12 出版

Finding happiness and contentment: What makes us truly content and what lures us down the wrong path. How to live more authentically: Draw courage from the experiences of a psychoanalyst to fight for yourself! A psychoanalyst takes stock after thirty years on the "other side of the couch." What has really helped his patients? What does happiness mean and how can we achieve it? Adler concludes that in the end, it was always the seemingly simple changes that really helped: making friends, finding a sense of security and confidence, having goals in life, rediscovering curiosity, and taking everything much more calmly. Above all, to draw on a deeply felt sense of one's own self, rather than on external and internal constraints. To be authentic and to identify and implement the things in life that bring true satisfaction. This book helps readers find out for themselves: what do I truly need? How do I become secure in myself? How can I shape the best possible version of my life?

Harmony 出版
2025/03/11 出版

Live your best, unashamedly unmasked Autistic life with this invaluable resource featuring tools for navigating friendships, family, work, and love, from the author of Unmasking Autism. "Unmasking for Life should be read by not only autistic people but their loved ones, to ensure they facilitate a truly fulfilling life."--Eric Garcia, author of We're Not Broken: Changing the Autism Conversation Most masked Autistics have spent a lifetime being told how to perform neurotypically: how to behave, how to carry themselves, what to feel, and how to live. With his previous book, Unmasking Autism, Devon Price, PhD, has given them the space and the tools to unmask and embrace their neurodiversity. But no matter where you are in the unmasking process, there is still work to be done. Unmasking is more than just a personal process of self-acceptance, after all--it also requires figuring out how to move comfortably throughout life building friendships, nurturing family, pursuing love, finding a means of survival, and expressing oneself on one's own terms. In order to live a brilliantly unashamed Autistic life, you need more than internal healing--you need practical tools of assertiveness and interpersonal effectiveness, and solutions to the problems of ableism and inaccessibility. Enter Unmasking for Life, which provides the resources to help you advocate for your needs and invent new ways of living, loving, and being that work with your disability rather than against it. You'll learn how to develop five key skills for living unmasked in all areas of life: - Acceptance of change, loss, and uncertainty- Engagement in productive conflict, discussion, and disagreement- Transgression of unfair rules, demands, and social expectations- Tolerance of distress, disagreement, or being disliked- Creation of new accommodations, relationship structures, and new ways of living Unmasking for Life will help validate and support you so you can move beyond unmasking your Autism and begin unmasking your world.

Ordinary Magic

Harmony 出版
2025/03/11 出版

"By one of the great psychologists of our time, a book that shows us how we can answer the universal questions that define our lives: Can I succeed? Do I belong? Am I loved?"--Carol S. Dweck, PhD, bestselling author of Mindset Discover simple psychological shifts that build trust, belonging, and confidence--from the co-director of the Dweck-Walton Lab at Stanford University The emotional questions we face can define our lives. If you're expecting an interaction to go wrong, that expectation can make it so. That's spiraling down. But as esteemed Stanford psychologist Greg Walton shows, when we see these questions clearly, we can answer them well. Known to social psychologists as wise interventions, these shifts in perspective can help us chart new trajectories for our lives. They help us spiral up. This is ordinary magic: The ordinary experiences that help us set aside the ordinary worries of life to unleash extraordinary change. Through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis of fascinating research--both his own and others'--Dr. Walton pulls back the curtain to reveal the magic at work: - With our children: The few choice words from a parent or a teacher that builds trust and achievement.- In our relationships: How the right opportunity to reflect, for just a few minutes before a conflict conversation, can engender greater intimacy among couples--even a year later.- In school: How learning that everyone feels as out of place at first as you do at a new school--they really do--can unleash extraordinary potential, improving your life a decade later.- In our policy: how a one-page letter reduced recidivism among kids returning to school from juvenile detention by 40 percentage points; a postcard campaign cut suicide rates in half. It's easy to think problems are out of our control. But in fact, we have vast opportunities for change. Ordinary Magic puts the tools for change at your fingertips.

The Autism Dialogue Approach Handbook

Routledge 出版
2025/03/11 出版

The Autism Dialogue Approach Handbook serves as both a comprehensive guide and a practical handbook for healthcare professionals, educators, caregivers and anyone engaging with the autism community. Jonathan Drury presents the Autism Dialogue Approach (ADA), a pioneering framework rooted in dialogue and mindfulness practices. It addresses the diverse needs of autistic and neurodivergent individuals, emphasising that 'the autism community' includes everyone, promoting an inclusive understanding of neurodiversity. The book critiques traditional therapeutic and coaching models, proposing ADA as an alternative that values co-creation and shared meaning-making. By exploring practical strategies, Drury demonstrates how ADA transforms therapy, coaching and leadership by fostering environments where neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals can connect authentically and transcend division. With clear tools, exercises and real-world examples, this handbook guides readers in applying ADA to cultivate neurodivergent-affirming, inclusive spaces. It also delves into the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of dialogue, offering insights into how societal structures impact autistic experiences and how systemic change can occur through dialogue.Aimed at those committed to building compassionate and inclusive settings, this handbook equips readers with practical skills for nurturing deep connections, promoting wellbeing and driving societal transformation through a neurodiversity-affirming approach.

On Giving Up

Picador USA 出版
2025/03/07 出版

One of The New York Times Critics' Picks of the Year From acclaimed psychoanalyst Adam Phillips, a meditation on what we must give up to feel more alive. To give up or not to give up? The question can feel inescapable but the answer is never simple. Giving up our supposed vices is one thing; giving up on life itself is quite another. One form of self-sacrifice feels positive, something to admire and aspire to, while the other is profoundly unsettling, if not actively undesirable. There are always, it turns out, both good and bad sacrifices, but it is not always clear beforehand which is which. We give something up because we believe we can no longer go on as we are. In this sense, giving up is a critical moment--an attempt to make a different future. In On Giving Up, the acclaimed psychoanalyst Adam Phillips illuminates both the gaps and the connections between the many ways of giving up and helps us to address the central question: What must we give up in order to feel more alive?

On Breathing

Catapult 出版
2025/03/07 出版

A gorgeous, expansive piece of narrative non-fiction about care, dependence, and what it means to breathe in an age of environmental catastrophe A few moments after birth we begin to use our lungs for the first time. From then on, we must continue breathing for as long as we are alive. And although this mostly happens unconsciously, in a society plagued by anxiety, climate change, environmental racism, and illness, there are more and more instances that "teach us about the privilege that is breathing." Why do we so easily forget the air that we breathe in common? What does it mean to breathe when the environment that sustains life now threatens it? And how can life continue to flourish under conditions that are increasingly toxic? To approach these questions, Jamieson Webster draws on psychoanalytic theory and reflects on her own experiences as an asthmatic teenager, a deep-sea diver, a palliative psychologist during COVID, a psychoanalyst attentive to the somatic, and a new mother. The result is a compassionate and timely exploration of air and breathing as a way to undo the pervasive myth of the individual by considering our dependence on invisible systems, on one another, and the way we have violently neglected this important aspect of life.
