Parental educational practices and children's tantrums

Ana,Duarte  著
Ingram 出版
2024/12/10 出版

Children's tantrums are a feature of normal child development and appear around 15-18 months of age. They are usually triggered by children's desire for independence and inability to choose. To prevent tantrums from becoming a serious behavioural problem for children, parents must adopt appropriate educational practices to promote desirable behaviour. This study analysed whether different types of parental educational practices are related to the existence or not of tantrums. 106 parents of children aged between 2 and 6 took part and answered three questionnaires. It was concluded that the most commonly used parenting practices are appropriate parenting practices, but when children have tantrums, parents resort to physical punishment and inappropriate parenting practices.

Psychotherapy and Materialism

Ingram 出版
2024/12/08 出版

Institutional psychotherapy emerged in France during World War II as a resistance movement against the fascist extermination of patients with mental and physical disabilities. The movement was initiated at the Saint-Alban psychiatric hospital and established a horizontal collective of patients and healthcare workers to dismantle confinement systems reminiscent of colonial and totalitarian practices. Embracing group therapies and patient-run cooperatives, these methods intertwined the 'treatment of the institution' and mental 'disalienation'. The book Psychotherapy and Materialism offers the first English translation of two seminal texts by institutional psychotherapy co-inventors Fran癟ois Tosquelles, a Catalan psychiatrist and anarcho-syndicalist, and Jean Oury, founder of the La Borde clinic. Their materialist and 'disalienationist' approach was further developed in Frantz Fanon's decolonial psychiatry and F矇lix Guattari's schizoanalysis. It led to a radical rethinking of psychoanalysis, education, and social work promoted by figures like Gisela Pankow, Anne Querrien, and Ginette Michaud.

Unmasking Shame

LIV,Larsson  著
2024/12/07 出版

Shame has a bad reputation. We have all experienced how feelings of shame have limited and silenced us. No wonder most of us are ready to do a lot to get rid of the discomfort. Therefore, the message of this book may seem surprising, as it suggests that with another approach; feelings of shame can be transformed into care and compassion. The author claims that the better we understand the development of humans, the more compassion or care we will experience. Instead of shaming and blaming we can relate in a more helpful way. Some benefits of befriending shame: we can more easily say no to things we don't want, without being destroyed if someone calls us selfish or cold. we can say yes to things we dream of, without having to be perfect. we grow in empathy as we more clearly understand the discomfort. gives adults a chance to be role models for children in dealing with strong and uncomfortable emotions. "Unmasking Shame" explores how to unmask the cultural taboo of shame. It provides a map of our development and is based on developmental theories as well as Nonviolent Communication (NVC). The man behind NVC, Marshall Rosenberg, often said, "never do anything to avoid shame". This book is marinated in that suggestion. A book that shows how the complex feelings of shame affect us as children, teenagers and adults.

Our New Social Life

Natalie,Kerr  著
2024/12/07 出版

A fascinating introduction to the science of connection that will ultimately improve your social life and lead to better relationships. In a world where everything seems to transform in a blink, anyone can suddenly find themselves scrambling for human connection. Someone who has always found it easy to connect can suddenly feel disoriented if they start a new job, move to a new region, or welcome a new member into the family. Others may have always found it difficult to connect, feel they've outgrown their circles, or may feel dissatisfied for a range of other reasons. In Our New Social Life, social connection and happiness experts Natalie Kerr and Jaime Kurtz explain the science behind these struggles and steer us toward timeless skills to overcome these challenges. Unlike much of the guidance found online, this book is based on decades of research, which the authors make accessible and useful to the reader, and offers tools for introverts and extraverts alike. Whether the barriers to connection are a function of modern life--such as being distracted by our devices, feeling overworked, and living far away from loved ones--or are more timeless--such as simply not knowing how to connect, misunderstanding the thoughts and feelings of others, undervaluing moments of solitude, and avoiding the sort of vulnerability that creates deep bonds--this book offers hope, encouragement, and relatability to help readers have a richer and more vibrant social life.

New Maladies of the Soul

2024/12/07 出版

"These days, who still has a soul?" asks Julia Kristeva in this psychoanalytic exploration. Drawing on her many years of experience as a practicing psychoanalyst, Kristeva reveals to readers a new kind of patient, symptomatic of an age of political upheaval, mass mediated culture, and the dramatic overhaul of familial and sexual mores. New Maladies of the Soul poses a troubling question about the human subject in the West today: Is the psychic space that we have traditionally known disappearing? Kristeva finds that the psychoanalytic models of Freud and Lacan need to be reread in light of this new patient, a product of the contemporary moral crisis of values resulting from a loss of ideology and a deterioration of belief. By revisiting Freud and Lacan, Kristeva offers the hope of a new psychoanalysis. Each patient, she contends, suffers from a unique malady which must be targeted. In the first half of the book, Kristeva offers a series of detailed case studies that reinforce her provocative theoretical notions. These case studies illustrate today's "new maladies"--common psychiatric disturbances as they are manifested in today's patient. Drawing on the work of the psychologist Helene Deutsch and the writer Germaine de Stael. Kristeva turns her attention to women's experiences and contributions. Delving into art, literature, autobiography, and theories of language, she continues with an exploration of cultural products ranging from the Bible to the work of Leonardo da Vinci. Kristeva offers the hope that these maladies harbor new creative potential and new hope for the soul--if we can comprehend their effect on the individual and collective experiences of our time.

Sense and Nonsense

Ingram 出版
2024/12/06 出版

Evolutionary theory is one of the most wide-ranging and inspiring scientific ideas, and it offers a battery of methods that can be used to interpret human behaviour. However, researchers disagree about the best ways to use evolution to explore humanity, and a number of schools of thought have emerged. Sense and Nonsense, third edition, provides an introduction to the ideas, methods and findings of five such schools, namely sociobiology, human behavioural ecology, evolutionary psychology, cultural evolution and gene-culture coevolution. In this revised and updated edition of their successful monograph, Brown and Lala provide a balanced and rigorous analysis that scrutinises both the evolutionary arguments and the allegations of the critics, carefully guiding the reader through the mire of confusing terminology, claim, and counter-claim, and polemical statements. This readable and informative introductory book will be of use to undergraduate and postgraduate students (for example in psychology, anthropology and zoology), as well as experts on one approach who would like to know more about the other perspectives and lay-persons interested in evolutionary explanations of human behaviour. Having completed the book, the reader will feel better placed to assess the legitimacy of claims made about human behaviour under the name of evolution and to make judgements as to what is sense and what is nonsense.

Connective Creativity

Ingram 出版
2024/12/05 出版

The story we often tell about artists is fiction. We tend to imagine the starving artists toiling alone in their studio when, in fact, creativity and imagination are often relational and communal. Through interviews with artistic collectives and first-hand experience building large scale installations in public spaces and at art events like Burning Man, Choi-Fitzpatrick and Hoople take the reader behind the scenes of a rather different art world. Connective Creativity leverages these experiences to reveal what artists can teach us about collaboration and teamwork and focuses in particular on the importance of embracing playfulness, cultivating a bias for action, and nurturing a shared identity. This Element concludes with an invitation to apply lessons from the arts to promote connective creativity across all our endeavors, especially to the puzzle of how we can foster more connective creativity with other minds, including other artificial actors.

Technology and Knowledge Sharing. The Moderating Effect of Trust, Psychological Safety and Autonomy

Ingram 出版
2024/12/04 出版

Master's Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Psychology - Industrial and organizational psychology, grade: 2.0, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, language: English, abstract: This study examines the relationship between employees' perception of knowledge management systems (KMS) and their knowledge sharing behavior (KS) within a book company. It focuses on how trust, psychological safety, and autonomy moderate this relationship. The study involved 194 employees from various organizational levels and departments who completed an online survey. Findings indicate that employees' perception of KMS, organizational trust, and autonomy significantly relate to KS behavior, whereas psychological safety does not. Trust and psychological safety were found to moderate the relationship between perception of KMS and KS behavior, emphasizing the significance of interpersonal factors in effective KMS implementation. This moderation effect was particularly strong among individuals with low levels of trust and psychological safety. The study provides evidence that promoting positive and trustful relationships is crucial in translating a favorable perception of KMS into actual knowledge sharing behavior, in addition to improving and adapting KMS.
