Rethinking Materialism
Taking as its starting point the diagnosis that events such as the pandemic, the ecological crisis, and the increasingly volatile international situation have made our relationship to the world problematic, the book aims to survey the ways in which this new situation can be productively theorized. Its three parts focus on: discourses of the "loss" of the world; attempts at resistance to this loss and regaining the "common" world; and discussions of matter as the "stuff" of the world.
Why We Shouldn't Forgive
This book invites the reader to understand how the practice of political forgiveness and sovereignty have changed, evolved, and developed over time. Londrigan offers original insights into forgiveness as part of an analysis of prerogative power, and thus how it has been understood in the history of political thought becomes intelligible.
Politics by Any Other Name
This book critiques a modern American political system characterized by the partisan weaponization of bureaucratic systems and institutions.
American Grand Strategy and National Security
This book is focused on explaining the grand strategic behavior of the United States from the Founding of the Republic to the Trump administration. To do so it employs a neoclassical realist framework to argue that while systemic change explains the broad evolution of US grand strategy, the precise shape and content of the grand strategies pursued has been conditioned by domestic political culture and interests. The book argues that distinct political cultures of statecraft (Hamiltonian, Jeffersonian, Jacksonian and Wilsonian) have acted as permissive filters through which policy-makers have interpreted and responded to systemic stimuli making some grand strategy choices more likely than others in the pursuit of national security. The book demonstrates that while primacist grand strategies were facilitated by the predominance from the mid-19th century to the early 21st century of the vindicationist Hamiltonian and Wilsonian forms of statecraft, the costs of primacy have now stimulated the resurgence of the long dormant, exemplarist Jeffersonian and Jacksonian forms of statecraft under the Obama and Trump administrations, resulting in grand strategies that seek to either manage or stave off decline in America's relative power position.
Secret History of 'The International' Working Men's Association
Beneath the banner of 'universal brotherhood' gathered not the salt of the earth, but a drifting substratum of Europe's political underworld-exiles without country, thinkers without readers, zealots without gods. In this unsparing account, first published in 1872, Onslow Yorke guides the reader through the mean estaminets, brasseries, cellars, garrets, lodging rooms, and print shops where 'The International' first stirred: fetid dens of smoke and spittle-flecked oratory, where revolution was plotted like sacrament and every man's enemy sat within earshot. Far from the rhetoric of uplift, Yorke uncovers a world of intrigue and factional spite, where the language of emancipation masked envy, truculence, and paranoia. The dramatis personae emerge not from workshops, but from the age's margins-autodidacts with messianic visions, serial conspirators fuelled by grievance, and men who mistook destruction for destiny. Their meetings resembled s矇ance rituals: damp, joyless, and rife with recrimination, presided over by figures who spoke always of the people, yet never seemed to know anyone normal. Yorke's tone is ironic and amusingly unflattering, and his Secret History-herein presented in an illustrated edition-the anatomy of a fungoid growth on the timber of post-1848 Europe. One that stubbornly persists and might never go away.
Indian Constitution
The book deals with the making and unfolding of the Constitution of India, framed by the Constituent Assembly between 1946 and 1949. Superseding the conventional legalistic approach, it focuses on the politico-ideological priorities of the members of Assembly who played a critical role in preparing the provisions of the Constitution.
The Political Economy of Long-Term Planning
This book breaks down new ways to use foresight and economic theory to enhance economic planning at a national level. Economic forecasting models often rely on time-series analysis. While important, these models can limit an economist's ability to foresee economic outcomes comprehensively. Effective economic planning and policymaking require a deep understanding of the socioeconomic and political forces that shape future economic outcomes. Using an interdisciplinary approach to economic theory and foresight, this book explores a new way to approach economic planning. Emphasizing resilience, adaptability, and future-oriented behavior, this book highlights how policymakers and researchers can integrate foresight and futures methodologies at local and national levels. It explores the methodological challenges inherent in foresight and offers a comprehensive guide to developing and utilizing scenarios. The chapters examine factors related to human thinking and behaviors, demonstrating how this knowledge can be used to support emerging developments across various economies. The book provides resources and management tools to help readers understand economic development using economic foresight. Acknowledging both the challenges and opportunities of long-term planning within developing economies, the authors provide recent case studies from Greece and beyond. Readers will gain a thorough understanding of the political economy of foresight and the essential theories needed to illustrate unique dynamics of socioeconomic change.
Climate Change Crisis in West Africa
Climate Change Crisis in West Africa: Sub-Regional Political Dynamics, Adaptation Strategies, and the Quest for Resilience explores the urgent and layered challenges posed by climate change across the West African sub-region. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, policy analysis, and lived experiences, the book examines how environmental shocks intersect with political governance, regional cooperation, and socio-economic vulnerabilities. From drought-stricken farmlands to shifting migration patterns and contested adaptation efforts, the authors unpack the complex interplay between climate impacts and sub-regional political dynamics. Through critical engagement with livelihood theory, vulnerability frameworks, and political ecology, this work highlights both institutional limitations and community-driven innovations shaping the region's path toward resilience. This book offers a vital resource for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners seeking context-rich insights and actionable solutions for a climate-resilient West Africa.
Building the Belt and Road Initiative in the Arab World
This book analyses the expansion of Chinese power and influence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects undertaken in the "1+ 2+ 3 cooperation pattern." Under this framework, 1 represents energy, 2 represents infrastructure and trade and investment, and 3 represents nuclear energy, space satellites, and renewable energy. Taken together these elements indicate the trajectory of China's MENA presence, and by examining each element in different states across the region, this book provides empirical evidence of which states or subregions are most important for Beijing's regional ambitions, as well as a better understanding of which sectors are being developed. The book will draw substantial interest from a wide range of readers including academics in the field of Chinese foreign policy, international relations, international political economy, foreign policy analysis, and area studies. Professionals in the corporate world will also be engaged and governmental practitioners and non-government agencies will also find it an important resource.
Toppling the First Ministry
Toppling the First Ministry, by T. M. Thomas Isaac and Richard W. Franke, tells the story of the CIA's covert operations against India's first Communist ministry. When Kerala, the south-west Indian coastal province, established its first Communist ministry in 1957, it immediately drew up a development schema rooted in plans to redistribute land and provide public education and healthcare to all. But as quickly as it began executing its vision, Kerala's efforts were disrupted by anti-communist agitation that succeeded in toppling the ministry with the help of the CIA. To this day, the CIA has not claimed any direct role in toppling Kerala's government Kerala is not alone. From Guatemala to Iran to the Congo to Brazil, to Indonesia and beyond, the CIA put up the financing to generate street mobs, groomed thuggish political bosses to do the CIA's bidding, organized private armies that answered to the CIA, bought and controlled media and individuals, assassinated popular leaders, and toppled elected ministries in an effort to maintain or establish U.S. control of the political and economic systems. One could see the story of Kerala as just one more tragic example of the CIA's successful efforts to manipulate the course of history and disrupt everyday life in countless emerging post-colonial nations following WWII. And yet, Kerala stands apart as an exceptional case, remarkable for what it managed to achieve: a redistributive strategy of development and consequent high quality of life for its ordinary citizens, initially at a relatively low level of economic growth. Since then, bolstered by subsequent intermittent left-led governments, Kerala`s democratic development alternative has continued to flourish. Drawing upon the recent revelation of thousands of pages of documents via the Freedom of Information Act, Isaac and Franke offer a detailed examination of the internal workings of the CIA and its local Kerala allies in subverting and ultimately overthrowing the newly elected ministry. They also show how, against all odds, Kerala continues to be a stronghold of the left in India and even across the globe.
Steering the Senate
The Senate majority and minority leaders stand at the pinnacle of American national government - as important to Congress as the speaker of the House. However, the invention of Senate floor leadership has, until now, been entirely unknown. Providing a sweeping account of the emergence of party organization and leadership in the US Senate, Steering the Senate is the first-ever study to examine the development of the Senate's main governing institutions. It argues that three forces - party competition, intraparty factionalism, and entrepreneurship - have driven innovation in the Senate. The book details how the position of floor leader was invented in 1890 and then strengthened through the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Drawing on the full history of the Senate, this book immediately becomes the authoritative source for understanding the institutional development of the Senate - uncovering the origins of the Senate party caucuses, steering committees, and floor leadership.

Dead Centre
The sensible centre. Evidence-based policy. These are not the same. In fact, they are at odds with each other. The scientific evidence tells us that building new gas, oil and coal mines will cause catastrophic climate damage this century. Yet politicians describe a call for the end of new mines as extreme. Likewise with online gambling, junk food advertising or incarcerating children: the evidence of harm is clear, but the sensible centre is defined not by evidence but by politics. Media reports on such issues presuppose that there are two sides and a centre to every debate, but evidence shows there is not. The political right thrives in such fear-fuelled, fact-free arenas, where traditional media and subject matter experts struggle to fight fear with facts. In this essay, economist and Executive Director of The Australia Institute Richard Denniss, explores the contradiction between centrism and evidence that sits at the heart of democratic debate in Australia. He shows that when both major parties oppose reform then the position of the sensible centre becomes indistinguishable from blind support for keeping things as they are.
Politics on the Edge
The #1 Sunday Times bestseller - Named a best book of the year by Foreign Affairs, Financial Times, and Kirkus Reviews "One of the best books on politics our era will see . . . A book of astonishing literary quality." --Matthew Parris, The TLS "[Rory Stewart] walked across Asia, served in British Parliament, and ran against Boris Johnson. Now he gives us his view of what's wrong with politics, and how we can make it right." --Adam Grant, "The 12 New Fall Books to Enrich Your Thinking" From a great writer--legendary for his expeditions into some of the world's most forbidding places--a wise, honest, and sometimes absurdist memoir of a most remarkable journey through British politics at the breaking point Rory Stewart was an unlikely politician. He was best known for his two-year walk across Asia--in which he crossed Afghanistan, essentially solo, in the months after 9/11--and for his service, as a diplomat in Iraq, and Afghanistan. But in 2009, he abandoned his chair at Harvard University to stand for a seat in Parliament, representing the communities and farms of the Lake District and the Scottish border--one of the most isolated and beautiful districts in England. He ran as a Conservative, though he had no prior connection to the politics and there was much about the party that he disagreed with.Politics on the Edge is a candid and penetrating examination of life on the ground as a politician in an age of shallow populism, when every hard problem has a solution that's simple, appealing, and wrong. While undauntedly optimistic about what a public servant can accomplish in the lives of his constituents, the book is also a pitiless insider's expos矇 of the game of politics at the highest level, often shocking in its displays of rampant cynicism, ignorance, glibness, and sheer incompetence. Stewart witnesses Britain's vote to leave the European Union and its descent into political civil war, compounded by the bad faith of his party's leaders--David Cameron, Boris Johnson, and Liz Truss. Finally, after nine years of service and six ministerial roles, and shocked by his party's lurch to the populist right, Stewart ran for prime minister. Stewart's campaign took him into the lead in the opinion polls, head-to-head against Boris Johnson. Politics on the Edge is his effort to make sense of it all, including what has happened to politics in Britain and the world and how we can fix it. The view into democracy's dark heart is troubling, but at every turn Stewart also finds allies and ways to make a difference. A bracing, invigorating mix of irony and love infuses Politics on the Edge. This is one of the most revealing memoirs written by a politician in living memory.

Italian Communist Dissidence and Transnational Trotskyism towards the Fourth International (1928-1938)
Following his expulsion from the Soviet Union in 1929, Leon Trotsky promoted the birth of an International Anti-Stalinist Communist movement which considered itself in opposition to the Communist International (Comintern). However, since 1933, it began to regard itself as an independent transnational organization in direct competition with the Comintern. Italian Communist Dissidence and Transnational Trotskyism towards the Fourth International (1928-1938) draws from wide-ranging primary and secondary sources, most of which are unpublished, to tell the fascinating unexplored story of the relations between the Italian communist dissidence (Trotskyist and Bordigists), Trotsky, and the International Secretariat (IS), the leading structure of the Trotskyist movement in the 1930s. It focuses on the role played by the two most notable executives of Italian dissident communism, Alfonso Leonetti and Pietro Tresso, who performed key roles inside the IS; consequently, the study of their activity gives us the possibility of following the development of Transnational Trotskyism in the 1930s until the establishment of the Fourth International. Written for scholars of Italian and International Communism, this book will also appeal to those interested in learning how Italian Trotskyism contributed to the building of a global alternative to Stalinism.

American Restoration
American Restoration is a strategic blueprint for rebuilding the democratic foundations of the United States. It is the second volume in an ongoing series that began with American Renewal, but where the first book focused on the collapse of democratic guardrails and the urgency of resistance, American Restoration turns to the deeper work: repair, reform, and the architecture of a republic that must be made to last. The book is built around a single premise: democracy is not self-sustaining. It must be designed, maintained, and defended with intention. When systems are built to fail-or hollowed out until failure becomes inevitable-restoration must begin at the structural level. This volume provides a comprehensive plan for that work.Organized in four parts, American Restoration begins with elections-the most visible function of democracy and the most manipulated. It outlines five core reforms to make elections free, fair, and functional: campaign finance reform, voting rights protection, Electoral College overhaul, redistricting integrity, and certification law. Each reform is treated as essential to ensuring every vote counts and every transfer of power holds. In Part II, the book addresses the presidency itself. It traces the expansion of executive power, the erosion of legal consequence, and the collapse of ethical expectations. It documents how the office of the President has grown beyond its constitutional limits-and what must be done to restore boundaries, accountability, and public trust. Reforms here include prosecutability of federal crimes, enforcement of the oath of office, and emergency powers oversight.Part III focuses on the federal judiciary. It documents the breakdown of public trust in the courts, the manipulation of judicial assignments, the misuse of the shadow docket, and the lack of enforceable ethics rules. The book offers reforms to restore legitimacy, including term limits for Supreme Court Justices, ethics enforcement mechanisms, and structural expansion of lower courts to ensure access to justice and generational balance.Part IV turns to the public itself. In an age of weaponized disinformation and fragmented information systems, American Restoration calls for new safeguards in media regulation, platform transparency, and civic education. It argues that an informed public is not optional to democracy-it is foundational. Without a shared factual baseline, no policy, law, or institution can endure. The book concludes with a chapter titled The Six That Hold, outlining the essential elements that must be secured for democracy to survive and thrive. This standard edition includes the full, unabridged content of American Restoration. It does not contain Reader's Guides or supplemental commentary, but the core strategic framework is complete. It is designed for citizens, educators, organizers, and leaders who want more than critique-who want a plan that can be acted on.More than a warning, American Restoration is a demand: that we treat self-government not as a tradition to be inherited, but as a system that must be deliberately rebuilt. One reform at a time.

American Restoration
American Restoration: Extended Edition is a blueprint for rebuilding democracy-expanded, sharpened, and now with Reader's Guides to help turn reform into action. It is the second volume in a multi-part response to democratic collapse, following American Renewal, and it answers one of the most urgent questions of our time: what does it take not just to resist authoritarianism, but to replace the systems that allowed it to rise? This is not a return to tradition. It is a construction project. From broken elections to unchecked presidential power, from judicial manipulation to the erosion of truth, this book names what has failed and proposes what must be rebuilt-structurally, transparently, and on purpose. Every chapter identifies a point of institutional failure, and every reform is designed to make that failure harder to repeat. The book is organized into four parts: Elections That Count Every Voice, The Limits to Presidential Power, A Judiciary That Upholds Law, Not Loyalty, and Rebuilding an Informed Public. These sections cover twenty-two core reforms: from campaign finance law and redistricting to presidential criminal liability, court ethics, broadcast fairness, and civic education. Each chapter frames the stakes, defines the breakdown, and proposes specific, implementable solutions rooted in constitutional design-not partisanship. This Extended Edition includes over 100 pages of Reader's Guides-one for every chapter-designed to support deeper engagement, whether by individuals, reading groups, classrooms, or advocacy organizations. Each guide provides structural summaries, analytical framing, and suggested questions to provoke understanding, discussion, and strategy. They help translate insight into action-and transform this volume from a reform plan into a civic tool.Unlike political commentary that trades in outrage or nostalgia, American Restoration offers a practical, legally grounded path forward. It confronts the expanded powers of the presidency, the collapse of prosecutorial independence, the ideological stacking of the courts, and the systemic disinformation that threatens all democratic accountability. But it also demonstrates that these are not unsolvable problems. They are the predictable consequences of design failures-and design can be changed. The book's concluding chapters argue that democracy does not fail all at once. It fails in pieces: when courts rule without ethics, when truth is optional, when elections are manipulated, and when the people no longer believe the system can respond to them. But piece by piece, it can be restored. The work is hard, long, and essential. And it must be done with full clarity about what went wrong-and how we ensure it cannot go wrong again.American Restoration: Extended Edition is written for those who understand that protest is not enough. It is for those seeking tools: legal, structural, strategic. Whether read on its own or as a companion to American Renewal, this edition gives readers not just a diagnosis-but a roadmap. And now, with Reader's Guides, it becomes a vehicle for civic education, group strategy, and public repair. This is not a partisan document. It is a democratic one. It offers no comfort to those who benefit from the current collapse. But it offers a lifeline to those who still believe that the United States can be governed by principle, law, and the people themselves. If we are to last, the work of restoration must begin now. One reform at a time.
Understanding Anarchism
What are the founding principles of anarchism? What links the philosophy of Proudhon, who introduced the notion to France in 1840, to the act of Italian Sante Geronimo Caserio, who assassinated President Sadi Carnot in 1894?This introduction to anarchism allows us to understand the issues and tensions that run through this movement, and to grasp why it could emerge today as a response to the moral and economic crisis of contemporary societies.

America's Failed Attempt at Democracy in the Middle East
On 08 July, President Biden announced the total withdrawal of all troops by 31 August 2021. Less than a month later, on 6 August, the Taliban seized Nimroz province. By 15 August, the Taliban entered the capital city of Kabul, the U.S. evacuated the embassy, and the Taliban again controlled Afghanistan. The question is, why after 20 years of investment in Afghanistan did the GIROA collapse in just 38 days? This paper takes a pragmatic approach of examining the pillars of national power and decisions made in key inflection points throughout the U.S. occupation and highlights where those decisions undermined security of the state over time. This work supports that U.S. policy decisions in Afghanistan contributed to a fragile state and resulted in GIROAs collapse. Further, that the collapse was not sudden or unexpected but had its foundation set as early as the founding of the central Afghan government. This work is designed to help policy makers understand how decisions shape stability and more importantly provide a framework to assist policy makers craft policy to promote stability factors when integrating a failed state into the global commons.

The Political System of Putin and Medvedev in the 21st Century
This book critically examines Russia's political evolution under Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, highlighting how power was centralized through constitutional reforms, media control, and a strategic exchange of presidential and prime ministerial roles. It explores Russia's model of "sovereign democracy" and its implications for global politics, particularly its influence in Africa. The study links Russia's authoritarian trajectory to emerging patterns of electoral authoritarianism across Africa, warning of threats to democracy, civil liberties, and institutional strength. Through Pan-African thought and indigenous governance values, the book urges African nations to resist external political models and embrace a vision of self-determined, democratic leadership grounded in historical wisdom and continental agency. Good Business
This open access book shows how governments can motivate companies to make a positive impact on society and why this is necessary in light of today's pressing social, economic and environmental challenges and transitions. It shows obstacles companies face in conducting socially responsible business. Focusing on government-business relations in the Netherlands, the book also exposes key policy bottlenecks: the tendency of the Dutch government to hold on to the status quo and shield incumbent firms through tax breaks and lax enforcement. There is a real risk of policies that pamper business: it hampers companies that offer societal innovations for instance for health, education or the labour market. We also show how policies can better capitalise on the innovative qualities of entrepreneurship. Effective government policy makes it worthwhile for companies to alter their business model so that their products, services and production processes benefit society. Our recommendations address the role of government, consumers, financiers and companies themselves. While this work focuses on the Netherlands, it tackles questions that countries face worldwide on how to minimise harmful business conduct and maximise good business solutions. This makes the book broadly relevant to policy makers, business leaders and researchers grappling with the impact of business on society today.
Political Choices
These essays are among the political pieces written since the catastrophic events of 9/11. Massive violence against humanity is a recurrent theme in modern, industrialized societies. But the same societies also gave rise to impressive forms of popular resistance. 9/11 signaled a change in the agenda. Under the leadership of the United States, advanced industrial states had developed colossal instruments of propaganda and violence to throttle popular resistance. Vast sections of working masses were basically disenfranchised. In the absence of mass movements, forms of terror have taken over the role of resistance. The presence of this terror is now used as a new pretext for controlling domestic populations, targeting specific communities and launching wars of aggression abroad. As the twin terrors confront each other in a spiraling cycle of violence, the democratic space for the unarmed humanity - in fact, the chance of survival of the human race - diminishes. What options for resistance are now available to arrest what otherwise looks like an inevitable course to doom? These essays are a fragile and essentially personal effort to come to grips with this overwhelming question. This is not meant to be theoretical exercise; there are no blue-prints. These are expressions of anguish and anger directed at mounting insanity, celebration of little glimmers of hope, attempts to analyse, understand, expose, locate the ground and act.
Landscape Economy. A Handbook for Educators
This book presents an approach to integrating a landscape economy dimension into higher education. It is addressed in particular to teachers motivated to develop knowledge and competences for sustainable development and social-economic transformation. However, we think that this book is of particular interest for educators in the fields of spatial planning, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, economics, business administration, real estate, mobility, agriculture, geography and regional development.

Defence
How can you separate the Defence Department from Politics? How can you separate Religion from doctrines and beliefs? How can you separate the Constitution from Democracy? How can you separate humans from the State? How can you separate Marriage from Procreation?...the lists are inexhaustible. If it were possible for States to exist without the military, then it would have been possible to defend the States without the Politics of Military. But, as long as the Defence department of any State depends on humans for the administration and management of human, material, and financial resources, Politics is here to stay forever. This text deals extensively with expository forces behind the permanent matrimony between the State and the Military in the 21st century polity. This combatant matrimony or union is here to stay forever, in order to keep the State in existence amongst the league of nations. The contents of this text are deeply rooted in scientific and rigorous research and findings for the sake of academic validity and reliability in theory and in practice.

American Renewal
American Renewal is a manifesto for civic survival in a time of democratic collapse. Written in the face of a second Trump presidency, this book offers a clear and urgent response to the erosion of the American republic-not with slogans, but with structure; not with sentiment, but with strategy.Author Jim Vincent draws on five decades of civic engagement and constitutional insight to trace how the foundational promises of American democracy have been rewritten, revoked, or sold. From unchecked executive overreach to judicial complicity, from disinformation and voter suppression to the corrosion of public institutions, American Renewal outlines the scale of the damage-and what must be done to repair it.The book is structured in five parts: The Collapse, The Resistance, The Restoration, The Renewal, and The Reinstitution. These sections map the trajectory of democratic decay and then chart a path forward-one that begins with defending what remains, continues with rebuilding what's been broken, and culminates in making democracy last. Each chapter focuses on a key component of the system-elections, courts, media, money, public service-and proposes actionable reforms grounded in law, principle, and long-term vision.More than a warning, American Renewal is a plan. It names the forces dismantling self-government and identifies the policies, tactics, and institutions needed to counter them. It is a book for those who are no longer asking "what's happening," but "what can we do?" and "how do we win back a country built to serve its people?"This standard edition delivers the full core content of the American Renewal project without additional commentary or reflection. It is ideal for readers seeking clarity and strategy without supplemental guides. Whether read independently or as the foundation for future discussion, this edition stands as a complete blueprint for democratic recovery.American Renewal does not trade in hope, nor does it indulge in despair. It calls citizens to act with seriousness, to understand with depth, and to organize with purpose. It is not a partisan call-but a democratic one. A call to hold. A call to rebuild. A call to resist. This is not the end of America's story. But if the republic is to be saved, it will not be saved by tradition. And it will not be saved by waiting.

American Renewal
American Renewal: Extended Edition is a manifesto for democratic survival and strategic resistance. Written in the wake of a second Trump presidency, it offers a clear-eyed response to the collapse of American self-government-not with slogans or sentiment, but with structure, principle, and a long-term plan for national recovery.Author Jim Vincent draws on five decades of civic engagement and constitutional insight to trace how American democracy has been hollowed out from within. From executive overreach to judicial complicity, from gerrymandered elections and dark money to the corrosion of public institutions, this book exposes how the republic's foundations have been systematically dismantled-and how they can be rebuilt with clarity, integrity, and resolve.Structured across five parts-The Collapse, The Resistance, The Restoration, The Renewal, and The Reinstitution-the book lays out a comprehensive response to democratic decay. It begins with a diagnosis of what has failed: the loss of judicial independence, the manipulation of information systems, the rise of lawless executive power, the capture of Congress, and the abandonment of public service. It then charts a deliberate path forward-beginning with defense, moving through resistance, and culminating in a plan to rebuild democracy in form and function. Each chapter targets a critical domain: campaign finance, media regulation, voting rights, the role of courts, the independence of civil institutions, and the future of democratic leadership. The reforms proposed are not abstract theories-they are structural, practical, and ready to implement. They speak to the central question of our time: not what went wrong, but what comes next-and how to ensure it cannot happen again. This Extended Edition includes a full set of Reader's Guides-chapter-by-chapter frameworks designed to help readers, educators, civic groups, and organizers turn insight into engagement. Each guide offers tools for understanding the stakes, reflecting on institutional failures, and identifying specific actions that individuals and communities can take. These guides transform the book from a statement of resistance into a shared platform for repair.American Renewal is not a partisan document. It is a blueprint for civic defense. It is a call not to tradition, but to responsibility. It offers no easy optimism and no passive hope-but it equips those who refuse to give up with the clarity and strategy they need to act. It speaks to a generation living through institutional collapse, and invites them not to look away, but to hold their ground, and begin the work of rebuilding. This is not the end of America's story-unless we allow it to be. The way forward will not be given. But it can be made.
