Activating Democracy in Brazil
In 1988, Brazil's Constitution marked the formal establishment of a new democratic regime. In the ensuing two and a half decades, Brazilian citizens, civil society organizations, and public officials have undertaken the slow, arduous task of building new institutions to ensure that Brazilian citizens have access to rights that improve their quality of life, expand their voice and vote, change the distribution of public goods, and deepen the quality of democracy. Civil society activists and ordinary citizens now participate in a multitude of state-sanctioned institutions, including public policy management councils, public policy conferences, participatory budgeting programs, and legislative hearings. Activating Democracy in Brazil examines how the proliferation of democratic institutions in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has transformed the way in which citizens, CSOs, and political parties work together to change the existing state. According to Wampler, the 1988 Constitution marks the formal start of the participatory citizenship regime, but there has been tremendous variation in how citizens and public officials have carried it out. This book demonstrates that the variation results from the interplay of five factors: state formation, the development of civil society, government support for citizens' use of their voice and vote, the degree of public resources available for spending on services and public goods, and the rules that regulate forms of participation, representation, and deliberation within participatory venues. By focusing on multiple democratic institutions over a twenty-year period, this book illustrates how the participatory citizenship regime generates political and social change.

The research consists of a mixed methods approach to explore the discourse on Kurdishness by analysing party programs, statements, and semi-structured interviews. The book utilises the Discourse-Historical Approach to analyse data and provide an interpretation of the concept of indigeneity within the discourse on Kurdishness. It sheds new light on the Kurdish political movement and other indigenous peoples in Mesopotamia, who were rendered invisible after the First World War due to the emerging political discourse in the Middle East.

The author's purpose is to encourage forecasters, political scientists, economists, and sophisticated students to be more innovative forecasters. The only prerequisites are an interest in modern American government and knowledge of basic regression analysis. Dr. Walker enhances Fair's voting model by introducing at least one new issue and additional data for each election. For example, the Korean and Vietnam wars were election years. Enhancing Fair's implicit assumptions reduces forecast errors. The analysis confirms that campaigns in only 7 states plus voting histories in 43 states determine most presidential outcomes.
Diversity Dysfunction
The diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) agenda that has captured American institutions in recent years is controversial. While many applaud it on ethical grounds for allegedly redressing past discrimination, critics charge that DEI policies are unfair and damage institutions, including organizations critical to U.S. national security. Until now, however, there has been no systematic study of the operational effects of DEI policies on the U.S. intelligence community. Diversity Dysfunction documents a purposeful effort by the Barack Obama and Joe Biden administrations to reorient the organizational cultures of our intelligence agencies toward the Marxist tenets of DEI and to degrade longstanding and highly effective practices in ways that harm performance. While the damage is readily apparent, we do not yet know the full consequences of the injuries inflicted by the DEI agenda. Our global adversaries have surely noticed the resulting weaknesses in U.S. intelligence but have not yet exploited them. One day, they will. Jettisoning DEI now is our best chance to mitigate the risk.
