Knowledge Production in Material Spaces
This book is a curation of the interventions that the authors undertook at a range of academic conferences since 2016. It problematizes disciplined practices and expectations governing academic conference spaces and generates new ways of thinking and doing conferences otherwise.
Qualitative Studies of Silence
Qualitative Studies of Silence brings together influential qualitative researchers from across the social sciences and humanities who have sought to understand the power of what remains unsaid, both psychologically and socially. Each chapter identifies one or more signs of silence and explains how these can form the basis of a rigorous qualitative investigation. The authors also demonstrate how silences operate in our private and collective lives by fulfilling psychological, relational, institutional, and ideological functions. The book contains multiple disciplinary perspectives and presents analyses of wide-ranging topics, such as medical consultations, whistleblowers, silence in court, omission-as-propaganda, trauma survivors, the silence of war museums, racism in the Americas, gendered silences, paid domestic labour, the undocumented student movement, and the Nazi past. This collection shows how such qualitative studies can reveal and contribute to understanding the unsaid as social action.
The Art of Inquiry
In this clear and readable book, the authors show that research guided by the soul is rich, passionate, and meaningful. Borrowing from their expertise as scholars and teachers, they blend philosophy and practice to describe what scholarly research undertaken from the perspective of the soul might look like and to account for the exceptional experience of psychological inquiry at its best. This expanded edition includes two new chapters. The new second chapter offers a basic introduction to depth psychology for thoughtful, inquisitive readers, one that follows its connections to myth, religion, and indigenous practices of healing. A new seventh chapter on deep writing explores qualities such as beauty, craft, the fluidity and precision of language, and soulful communion between author and reader. This edition also enlarges the scope of the conversation by including more expert voices, including philosophers, poets, and novelists as well as scholars of religion, anthropology, mythology, and neurobiology.

Why Is It So Hard
Book Synopsis: In this timely and unabridged book, the authors utilize their strong skills of literary research and a unique ability to link thought with feelings to craft a compelling and unbiased analysis of the challenges associated with being a humanitarian in America during an unprecedented period of political and social strife. The analysis shares current survey data, historical trends, revealing photographs, and relevant literary work of other authors, scholars, historians, news correspondents, bloggers and social activists to uniquely explore and untangle nine powerful societal influences. Individually, and at times in combination, these influences are having the most impact on shaping public thought and fueling historic divisiveness among Americans today. Why Read This Book: You will gain a deeper understanding of what has been driving the increased levels of political and social strife in America since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can also gain insight into practical approaches that you can take to minimize the "invasiveness" of the societal influences that prevent most Americans from becoming kinder and more humane. ABOUT THE BOOK A Kinder and More Humane Society Starts With Kinder People. "In an amazingly concise and powerful book, the Cobbs use an approach, which integrates photographic images and the most relevant literary work of others, to connect 'thought with feelings', while untangling and examining the complexities and interrelatedness of societal unity, humanity, diversity and the invasiveness of societal influences in America today." In the new book, Earl and Charlotte introduce and cross-examine a set of societal influences or Framing Factors, which have a significant influence in the daily lives of Americans. The anti-humanitarian effects of several of these Framing Factors were amplified during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to exist at an elevated level today. The Framing Factors are: The Influence of The Human MindThe Influence of Selfishness The Influence of Apathy and Indifference The Influence of The Less EducatedThe Influence of Social Media and Mass MisinformationThe Influence of Conspiracy TheoriesThe Influence of Partisan Politics The Influence of Wealth and PowerThe Influence of Religious Hypocrisy The Cobbs deliver a rich and unbiased analysis of the "impacts" these influences have on humanity and kindness within the United States. Common-sense approaches to countering the impacts are proposed as starting points, for those interested in taking on the challenge of becoming a true, people person.

Cultural Methods in Psychology
This volume describes a broad array of culturally sensitive research methods in psychology, addressing diverse issues such as implicit bias, identity development, trauma, and racism. Each chapter provides instructive value for those who want to effectively employ these methods, as well as deep reflection on the meaning of various methods for understanding complex psychological phenomena. The methods discussed include various interview methodologies, digital tools, use of media representations, exposure to positive exemplars, survey and experience sampling, and participatory action research. These topics and methods are arranged across three sections: methods that are meant to describe culture and cultural phenomena, methodologies designed to facilitate awareness of structural bias and inequity, and a section on broad, overarching issues, such as the colonial harm inflicted by scientific research, diversity in open science, and intersectionality.
Loneliness and Interoceptive Accuracy in the Elderly Population
Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: 1,0, University of Vienna (Psychologische Fakult瓣t), language: English, abstract: The present study aims to investigate the relationship between interoceptive accuracy and loneliness in the elderly population. Because of the negative consequences of atypical (too low or too high) interoceptive accuracy and the negative consequences of loneliness, an investigation of how these two constructs are linked to and might interact with each other is of major relevance. By combining two large areas, the one of loneliness and the one of interoception, which are both of great psychological interest, we intent to close a gap within the current research literature. Results might give us new insights into the perception (interoeptive and exteroceptive) of lonely persons. Loneliness is described as an unpleasant feeling of deficits in quantity or quality of social ties. Prior studies observed that lonely individuals displayed higher levels of alexithymia (emotional blindness). Furthermore, research in the field of interoception (the perception of the bodily state) discovered atypically low interoceptive abilities within highly alexithyimic individuals. Based on previous findings, we expected lonely individuals to show decreased levels of accurate interoceptive abilities together with reduced neural activity within the anterior insula, the somatosensory cortex (postcentral gyrus), the inferior frontal gyrus and the precentral gyrus. Brain areas previously associated with accurate interoceptive abilities. The data for the present fMRI study were collected within a sample of 28 participants older than 64 years. The extent to which a participant is capable of perceiving his/ her own bodily sensations (interoceptive accuracy) was measured via a heartbeat tracking task, during which the subject was required to perceive his/ her own heart rate and report the counted number of heartbeats.

How to Become a Schizophrenic
"...demonstrates the physical, psychological, and social harm resulting from the label schizophrenic and the continuous need to reexamine the underpinnings and attitudes of psychiatry." -Booklist "Of all the books written about schizophrenia...none is more comprehensive, accurate, thorough, and clearer in style and statement than John Modrow's classic How to Become a Schizophrenic. Modrow, who is a recovered schizophrenic and is, perhaps, the unrecognized and unappreciated world's foremost authority on this disorder, has performed a truly invaluable service and has made the major contribution to our understanding of the causes and cures of this pseudodisease." -Robert A Baker, Ph.D., former chairman of the Department of Psychology, University of Kentucky; author of They Call It Hypnosis, Hidden Memories: Voices and Visions from Within and Mind Games: Are We Obsessed with Therapy? "One of the best things I've read on the subject...I am struck by the richness of the ideas and the research and the soundness of the conclusions." -Peter Breggin, M.D., founder and director of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology; author of Toxic Psychiatry and Talking Back to Prozac "...a very important contribution to the field." -Theodore Lidz, M.D., former chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Yale University; author of The Origin and Treatment of Schizophrenic Disorders and Schizophrenia and the Family "...well researched and easily readable (a difficult combination to achieve)!" -Judi Chamberlin, author of On Our Own: Patient-Controlled Alternatives to the Mental Health System "...meticulously challenges all the major research that claims that schizophrenia is a biological disorder." -Ty C. Colbert, Ph.D., author of Broken Brains or Wounded Hearts: What Causes Mental Illness "Before reading the book, I was largely convinced that schizophrenia was primarily a brain disease. Modrow has forced me to take a second look, however, and reconsider the psychological causes of the condition." -The Vancouver Sun "...it is ennobling that despite bad and discouraging treatment he was able to understand himself and others, and share that acquired knowledge in an accurate and helpful way." -Bertram P. Karon, PhD., professor of clinical psychology, Michigan State University; author of Psychotherapy of Schizophrenia "...gives clear proof that there's real hope. Interpreting Statistics for Beginners
Interpreting Statistics for Beginners teaches readers to correctly read and interpret results of basic statistical procedures as they are presented in scientific literature, and to understand what they can and cannot infer from such results. The first of its kind, this book explains key elements of scientific paradigms and philosophical concepts that the use of statistics is based on and introduces readers to basic statistical concepts, descriptive statistics and basic elements and procedures of inferential statistics. Explanations are accompanied with detailed examples from scientific publications to demonstrate how the procedures are used and correctly interpreted. Additionally, Interpreting Statistics for Beginners shows readers how to recognize pseudoscientific claims that use statistics or statements not based on the presented data, which is an important skill for every professional relying on statistics in their work. Written in an easy-to-read style and focusing on explaining concepts behind statistical calculations, the book is most helpful for readers with no previous training in statistics, and also those wishing to bridge the conceptual gap between doing the statistical calculations and interpreting the results.

Multilevel Selection
This book embeds a novel evolutionary analysis of human group selection within a comprehensive overview of multilevel selection theory, a theory wherein evolution proceeds at the level of individual organisms and collectives, such as human families, tribes, states, and empires. Where previous works on the topic have variously supported multilevel selection with logic, theory, experimental data, or via review of the zoological literature; in this book the authors uniquely establish the validity of human group selection as a historical evolutionary process within a multilevel selection framework.Select portions of the historical record are examined from a multilevel selectionist perspective, such that clashing civilizations, decline and fall, law, custom, war, genocide, ostracism, banishment, and the like are viewed with the end of understanding their implications for internal cohesion, external defense, and population demography. In doing so, its authors advance the potential for further interdisciplinary study in fostering, for instance, the convergence of history and biology. This work will provide fresh insights not only for evolutionists but also for researchers working across the social sciences and humanities.

Logically Accurate, Emotionally Healthy
Logically Accurate, Emotionally Healthy is ideal for anyone with a sweet-tooth for innovation in the fields of emotional health, mindfulness, performance excellence, stress management, self-development or energy psychology. What is the purpose of human thought? What are the steps to optimal thinking? What are the building blocks of emotional patterns that create your sensitivities and reactivities to every life experience? How can you break emotional reflexes wired into your nervous system from childhood? How can you standardise communication within your family, friends, workplace or corporation? To understand your mindset you have to understand the recurring thought process that creates it. The greatest discovery in human history will be the sequential recipe for optimal human thought. It will address the social crisis of unhealthy, unstructured thinking that jackpots into the medical crisis of mental health. It will also enable computer programs to mimic optimal human thought to create "true" artificial intelligence. We don't know how to teach our children how to think optimally. Simultaneously, we can't program computers to mimic optimal human thought to create "true" artificial intelligence. The solution is that the human thought process is a sequential series of steps like playing hopscotch that produces a perfect result in a minimum number of steps; all with the inherent design of nature - a fractal algorithm. Since 2013, Dr Sean Eastwood has been studying the work of a now-deceased Australian software developer who claimed to have found the master algorithm of artificial general intelligence based on the discovery that the human thought process is a natural law like gravity. The result is precise blueprints for human thought and perception that accommodate all forms of physical and energetic medicine.

An Introduction to Using Mapping Sentences
This book acts as an introductory guide to understanding and using the mapping sentence as a tool in social science and humanities research. The book fills the need for a concise text that simply instructs how and when to use a mapping sentence and provides practical examples. Mapping sentences are a major research component and tool of facet theory. The book begins by covering the background to mapping sentence, including the philosophy and theory underpinning it. The following chapter discuss what mapping sentence is, what different kinds of mapping sentences exist, and knowing when and which to use it in a given situation. The book then moves into describing how to write a mapping sentence and how to analyse the information gained from mapping sentence research. It ends with a consideration of the future developments of mapping sentences and their applications across the social sciences and humanities, including in particular psychology, marketing, behavioural biology, art and health.
Sexueller Missbrauch an Kindern.

Die Menschen werden immer 瓣lter, weshalb i
Virtual and dream reality. Wie Virtuelle Realit瓣t unsere Tr瓣ume beeinflusst
Vielleicht k繹nnte eine h繹here Anzahl an Probanden bei weiteren Studien f羹r eindeutigere Ergebnisse sorgen.

Psychology of Mental Health. Gender, Childhood Abuse and Hostile-Helpless States of Mind
Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Psychology - General, grade: A, University of Edinburgh, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this study is to replicate the associations between severity of childhood abuse and punitive behaviour, and Hostile-Helpless (HH) states-of-mind; and to assess the gender-dependent effect of childhood abuse severity on HH states-of-mind via punitive behaviour. A secondary data set of longitudinally studied adolescents and their mothers was used. The study used interview and interaction measures as well as information from the state's protective services. HH states-of-mind levels in late adolescence have been repeatedly linked to higher severity of abuse in childhood, and to higher levels of adolescent punitive behaviour. To our knowledge, whether the link between severity of childhood abuse and adolescent HH states-of-mind is mediated by punitive behaviour has not yet been explored. Due to gender likely having an effect on the link, the present study aims to investigate whether the link between severity of childhood abuse and HH states-of-mind via punitive behaviour differs depending on gender, so that the effect is significant for females, but not males. HH states-of-mind are a form of an adolescent's or adult's current representations of childhood attachment experiences. 'Attachment' describes the bond between an infant and their primary caregiver, and plays an important role in an individual's functioning from cradle to grave. Infants are predisposed to seek closeness to their attachment figures - usually their predominant caregiver - to increase their chances of survival. In this infant-caregiver relationship, the infant forms a sense of self, and whether they can trust, and rely on their caregiver. A caregiver's display of frightening or frightened behaviour, or other forms of disrupted affective communication towards the infant, prevents the functional purposes of the attachment system: establishing proximit

Qualitative Research and Social Intervention
This book presents procedures and research techniques that are based on critical perspectives of Psychology and Education. The content is characterized by innovations on the relationship between the researcher and the investigated context, and it problematizes different perspectives and approaches to the psychological phenomenon proposing new understandings of the subject, the world, the social and the field of investigation itself as a permanent dialectical movement. The book reports to Marxist-based perspectives - especially to Vygotsky's ideas and concepts. Therefore, it assumes the comprehension that in order to understand the phenomenon in its historical dimension it is necessary to put it into motion seeking to access the genesis of the manifestations evidenced at the moment of the investigation. That is, the historicity that characterizes the process of constitution of the human psyche can only be apprehended in its movement, thus, what matters is the process and not the product of its development. Nevertheless, apprehending phenomena in movement is a challenge for researchers interested in human processes within the scope of relationships or practices of professionals and/or subjects of various scenarios, which leads to the need to problematize the different moments of research and their dimension in the theoretical and practical fields. Which methodological techniques or procedures allow the apprehension of the meaning movement produced by the subjects in the investigated scenarios? To what extent does dialectical materialism derived from Marxism support the apprehension and analysis of research information of this nature? What other theoretical-methodological perspectives, related to Cultural-Historical Psychology, offer subsidies to these investigations? The theoretical perspectives based on the Social and Cultural analysis focus on the understandings of collective contexts precisely because of the subject view constituted in the inter-subjective relations that it undertakes - which adds even more complexity to the investigative processes. From this perspective, both the subject and other participants transform themselves during the investigation, such transformation needs to be permanently reflected and included in the research objectives and purposes, in order to follow the movement of the meanings in the expressed phenomenon.
