Does Sleep Restriction Impact Performance and Metacognition in an Episodic Memory Task? An Experimental Study
Master's Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: B, Stockholm University, language: English, abstract: Sleep restriction is common in adults and has been linked to impairments in cognition, such as memory performance. However, less is known about how sleep restriction affects metacognition, the ability to monitor one's cognitive processes. This experimental study aimed to (i) investigate if sleep restriction negatively impacts episodic memory performance and (ii) to examine if sleep restriction negatively affects two aspects of metacognition (confidence bias and metacognitive sensitivity). Using a within-subjects design, 148 participants performed an episodic memory task after two nights of restricted sleep (4h/night) and two nights of saturated sleep (9h/night) in a randomized order. The episodic memory task comprised the encoding and retrieval of indoor and outdoor images. Participants provided a confidence rating for each trial. Mixed model analyses revealed that participants performed less accurately after sleep restriction, were more confident in their performance, and had lower metacognitive sensitivity.

As well as being an integral part of language, interjections play an important role in communication. Deficits in social communication and social interaction form part of the triad of impairments in Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Language Disorder impacts upon the communicative abilities of a person. This study is the first to investigate the use of interjections by children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Language Disorder, and a typically developing cohort. To date, the study of interjections is extremely limited in scope as research within this area has been overlooked by linguists. This book strives to address this issue, and a novel approach to eliciting interjections through storytelling and spontaneous play is introduced. The Role of Visual Active Self-Touch in Body Ownership
Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: 1.0, SRH University of Heidelberg, language: English, abstract: The goal of the present study was to investigate how active visual self-touch modulates ownership illusions during the rubber hand illusion (RHI). 23 healthy test subjects participated. A 2x2x2 repeated measures ANOVA was performed, in which self-touch vs. external touch during RHI induction was examined. Additionally, the effect of touching the rubber hand during the RHI vs not touching it was measured, as well as the location of the rubber hand within or outside of peripersonal space (PPS). The measures used were the behavioral measure of the proprioceptive drift (PD) and a 10-item subjective embodiment questionnaire, including the components "ownerhip", "location" and "agency". Based on previous studies and theories regarding self-touch, it was hypothesized that self-touch would positively modulate body ownership. A further postulation was that touching the rubber hand during the RHI, instead of just performing the stroking motion without the touch, would induce a higher sense of embodiment, which could be confirmed. Lastly, it was hypothesized that embodiment would be positively modulated by the rubber hand being inside the PPS of the subject's own hand.

Advancing Culturally Responsive Research and Researchers: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods encourages readers to design and engage in methodologies and methods that place cultural relevancy at the center of inquiry. In doing so, it highlights the need to uplift voices and needs of people who have been historically marginalized in the environments that we both inhabit and engage in as part of knowledge construction.The scholars whose work is featured in this volume take up research from different paradigmatic, ontological, epistemological, axiological, and methodological approaches - yet, with adherence to centering cultural responsiveness in all research decisions. The Institute was hosted by QualLab in The Ohio State University's College of Education and Human Ecology and shared this volume's thematic focus. Affirming Methodologies: Research and Education in the Caribbean centres local and indigenous ways of knowing in research and education praxis in the Caribbean. The research methodologies and pedagogies are presented in this book within an Affirming Methodologies framework. It is through prenatal bonding that the pregnant woman has the chance to play an important role in contributing to her baby's psychological and physical healthy development in utero. The significance of prenatal bonding has been worked out by experts in prenatal psychology, such as Dr. Thomas Verny, Dr. David Chamberlain and Dr. Ludwig Janus, to name but a few. One of the findings of prenatal psychology is the proven fact that everything the pregnant woman does, thinks, feels is being transmitted to her baby via different communication channels and everything the unborn baby experiences is stored as a memory in all its cells. BONDING ANALYSIS is a preventive method to avoid prenatal traumatisation and to help dissolving blockages that may impair the building up of an intensive, deep, prenatal bonding between mother and baby. Christa Balkenhol-Wright has developed a variant form of BONDING ANALYSIS which she also presents in this practical guide. She focuses on a bonding-related support in pregnancy, identifies emotional deficits the pregnant woman is not aware of and applies her concept of "Self-Parenting" so that the pregnant woman is psychologically stabilized and empowered to deal with her pregnancy, the relationship with her partner, her life and job situation in general in a more positive and stress-free way.

Contemporary Theories and Systems in Psychology
Twenty years is a long time in the life of a science. While the historical roots of psychology have not changed since the first edition of this book, some of the offshoots of the various theories and systems discussed have been crit- ically reexamined and have undergone far-reaching modifications. New and bold research has led to a broadening of perspectives, and recent devel- opments in several areas required a considerable amount of rewriting. I have been fortunate in the last fifteen years to have worked with about 2,000 psychologists and other behavioral scientists who contributed to several collected volumes I have edited. As the editor-in-chief of the In- ternational Encyclopedia of Psychiatry, Psychology, Psychoanalysis and Neurol- ogy, I have had the privilege of reading, scrutinizing, and editing the work of 1,500 experts in psychology and related disciplines. In addition, I have written several books and monographs and over one hundred scientific papers. Armed with all that experience, I have carefully examined the pages of the first edition. Chapter 8 required substantial rewriting and several new sections have been added to other chapters: "Current Soviet Psychol- ogy" (Chapter 2, Section 7); "New Ideas on Purposivism" (Chapter 5, Sec- tion 4); "Recent Developments in the Sociological School of Psychoanalysis" (Chapter 9, Section 4); and "Present Status of Gestalt Psychology" (Chapter 12, Section 4). Chapter 15 was omitted, and two new chapters were added: Chapter 14 ("Humanistic Psychology") and Chapter 16 ("Selected Research Areas").
