A Meaningful Life

2026/03/19 出版

We live in times of great change, a time when our personal strengths are stretched, sometimes even to the breaking point. The results are disheartening. Many of us fail at our jobs and our relationships; others become addicted to substances or activities that offer only temporary respite. A MEANINGFUL LIFE is a book about living purposefully and composedly in today's world of strife, turmoil, uncertainty, and competitive survival. The recognition is that, with a stable, intelligently derived sense of meaning, anyone can weather any storm with courage and composure, or, as stated by Friedrich Nietzsche, "If we have our own why in life, we shall get along with almost any how."Without it, today's youth and even some older adults are burdened by feelings of uncertainty, loneliness, fear, depression, or despair, leaving a hole in the soul they cannot comprehend, far less fill. The consequence is the irresistible attraction to alcohol, drugs, entertainment, or activities that cause harm to self or others to escape these feelings, or they seek spurious comfort in pretense or acts of physical, sexual, or financial control.Real meaning can only be reached through a logical and scientifically derived definition of the human spirit as the essence of the power of self. This book uses dialogue that critically examines the nature of self, of theism, and of our physical reality to guide the reader to realize their own "why" so they can reach that objective for themselves or to guide someone in their charge to do so.It does not offer ten easy answers or twelve rules to follow. It will, instead, take you through a serious analysis of the human spirit and a logical conclusion on how to realize it, activate it, and build it to a purposeful end. It will introduce historical and scientific facts that may, on the surface, seem irrelevant but, in the end become necessary for your full acceptance and ownership of the conclusions. Your "why" will allow you to confidently create you own "how's".

Blame It On The Tism

Shelley,Anne  著
Shelley Anne 出版
2026/03/19 出版

So... You've Entered the Autism MultiverseCongratulations. You now speak fluent "beige food," can identify a scratchy clothing tag at fifty paces, and have filled in the same local authority form so many times you're considering listing it as a hobby. This book will not: Cure autism.Magically shorten waiting lists.Stop people saying "But they don't look autistic."This book will: Explain the difference between antisocial and socially selective (hint: we like people... just not all of them... and preferably not loudly).Talk honestly about masking - aka "Oscar-Worthy Acting in a Supermarket."Gently dismantle the term "high-functioning" without dismantling your sanity.Validate the sensory chaos of scratchy tags, wrong socks, and food that is the wrong shade of beige.Make you feel significantly less alone at 2 am when Googling, "Is this normal?"Written from lived experience - as an autistic parent raising an autistic child - this isn't a textbook, and it's definitely not a patronising "10 Easy Steps" guide. It's real life. It's funny because sometimes if you don't laugh, you'll cry (and you've already done enough of that in the car park).

The Colors of Home

2026/03/18 出版

The Colors of HomeHome isn't a place. It's a reckoning. After her husband dies from leukemia, Ebony McMullen packs her three children into an overstuffed Suburban and drives fifteen hours from Colorado to North Carolina-back to the small Southern town her husband once fled without explanation. She's out of money. Out of options. And forced to live in a house owned by the father-in-law, who never wanted her.On the surface, the town is postcard-perfect-church steeples, front porches, Friday night lights. But beneath the magnolias and manners lies something colder. Her oldest son, Owen, burns with anger after legal trouble in Colorado. Scotty clings to the hope that football will help him belong. Destiny-bright, perceptive, and unashamed of her Down syndrome-sees beauty everywhere. But in this town, difference is noticed.A diner waitress asks, "What are you?"A teacher assumes Ebony belongs in the kitchen.A rival father hurls a racial slur under stadium lights. Then someone humiliates Destiny in a calculated act meant to send a message-and the fragile stability Ebony has fought to build begins to splinter. As tensions rise, Ebony discovers that the town's history-and her father-in-law Shane McMullen's past-hold secrets far darker than she imagined. The man who controls the roof over their heads has buried truths that could shatter reputations, expose long-hidden betrayals, and force Ebony to question everything she thought she knew about her marriage.Because nothing here is as it seems. Not the neighbors. Not the past. Not even the story she's been told about why her husband left. When old loyalties collide with dangerous revelations, Ebony must decide whether survival is enough-or if it's time to fight for justice, truth, and a home her children can claim without apology. The Colors of Home is a powerful, emotionally charged novel about grief, race, redemption, and the courage it takes to confront the past.Because sometimes home isn't where you're welcomed. It's where you choose to stand.

Parenting a Gamer

"Perfect for any parent who wants to meet their young gamer with empathy, wisdom, and a renewed sense of partnership." --Doug Bolton, PhD, author of Untethered: Creating Connected Families, Schools, and Communities to Raise a Resilient GenerationParents have good reason to worry when they don't understand the video games their kids are playing. Their children stare at a screen for hours every day. Eyes glazed over, they seem oblivious to the world and throw tantrums when asked to help fold laundry. According to a recent survey, three-quarters of American parents think their children spend too much time in front of screens. Two-thirds of parents believe raising children is more difficult than twenty years ago, primarily due to their children's access to technology.Parents have questions and don't know what information to trust. What games are appropriate? How much screen time is too much? Have children lost the ability and desire to socialize? Are they desensitized to violence? Who are they talking to online? Why has everything become a power struggle? Author Andrew Fishman walks parents through a comprehensive guide to all the challenges of parenting a gamer. He provides scientific evidence and cultural context to empower parents to make values-based decisions and raise healthy children. Parenting a Gamer contains practical strategies to help children make healthy decisions related to gaming, balance screen time with other activities, and practice internet safety, all without arguments. When it comes to helping children make positive choices related to gaming, this book is a game changer.

Does Any of This Sound Familiar?Your RSD fires at the smallest perceived criticism and suddenly you're convinced everyone hates you.Your relationships struggle because your partner doesn't understand why you shut down or explode over "small things."You mask so hard that you're exhausted by noon, but letting the mask slip feels terrifying. You're told to "just focus" or "calm down" by people who have no idea how your nervous system actually works.I get it. You've tried therapy. You've read the DBT workbooks. They told you these skills work for everyone. What's inside: - Why standard DBT fails ADHD and autistic brains (and the exact modifications that actually work)- The 8 senses you're processing (not 5) and why ignoring three of them keeps you dysregulated- How to regulate sensory input BEFORE emotional regulation (the foundation everyone skips)- Why "willingness vs. willfulness" gaslights demand avoidance and what to use instead- The RSD reality-check system that separates actual rejection from your brain's threat response- Time blindness strategies that work with your neurology, not against it- Communication scripts for when your brain goes offline and you can't form words- Executive function hacks for task initiation paralysis, decision freeze, and working memory failure- How to explain your needs without over-justifying or apologizing for your neurology- Alexithymia-friendly emotion identification when "name your feelings" makes no sense- Why masking is killing you and how to reduce it without feeling exposed- Meltdown vs. shutdown differences and what to do during eachRegulation is possible. Mothercry wades into barely explored territories of modern living, including: experiences common to ageing mothers of adults in modern nuclear familiesthe nature of longing, loneliness and lovepower forces undermining the health and wellbeing of western familiesthe importance of finding new language for feeling in the human bodythe restoration of health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities."Exquisite. A work of art of depth, integrity and genius." Dr Clare Finegan "... ineffably beautiful. This book is the loving arms that tells women they are not alone." Susan Moriarty

The Breakthrough Years

Flatiron Books 出版
2026/03/05 出版

Blending cutting-edge research with engaging storytelling, The Breakthrough Years offers readers a paradigm-shifting comprehensive understanding of adolescence. "Just wait until they're a teenager!" Many parents of newborns have heard this warning about the stressful phase that's to come. But what if it doesn't have to be that way? Child development expert Ellen Galinsky challenges widely held assumptions about adolescents and offers new ways for parents and others to better understand and interact with them in a way that helps them thrive. By combining the latest research on cognitive neuroscience with an unprecedented and extensive set of studies of young people nine through nineteen and their families, Galinsky reveals, among other things, that adolescents don't want to separate completely from their parents but seek a different type of relationship; that they want to be helpers rather than be helped; and that social media can become a positive influence for teens. Galinsky's Shared Solutions framework and Possibilities Mindset show you how to turn daily conflicts into opportunities for problem-solving where both teens and parents feel listened to and respected; how to encourage positive risk-taking in your child like standing up for themselves, making new friends, and helping their communities; and how to promote five essential executive function-based skills that can help them succeed now and in the future. The Breakthrough Years recasts adolescence as a time of possibility for teens and adults, offering breakthrough opportunities for connection.

Memorizing the Wind

Terrapin Books 出版
2026/03/04 出版

Odes, nocturnes, aubades-if Keats were still here, he'd want to have a conversation and a glass of claret with Deirdre O'Connor. These are gorgeous poems but not pretty poems. There's a fidelity to the often messy world, a fidelity to the messy truth that gives this book a rare, clear strength gracefully, even delicately applied. From the first lines "What wind is this, / turning the pear tree's blossoms/ to loose-leaf snow?/ What wind, pushing/ the semen scent through town," we see that this will be an unusual collection, one that weds the best impulses of the Romantics with the earthy, complicated, mucky "semen scented" world. What holds the book together even as it raises the stakes of the poems is the gorgeous music of the language. -Leslie Harrison, author of Reck

The Tech Exit

Clare,Morell  著
Forum Books 出版
2026/03/03 出版

ECPA BESTSELLER - A road map to free your kids from the harms of digital technology and to recover the beauty, wonder, and true purpose of childhood--by a leading tech policy expert "We know smartphones can be harmful to kids and teens, but what can we do about it? In this indispensable guide, Clare Morell documents the solutions that actually work."--Cal Newport, author of Slow Productivity and Digital Minimalism It's no secret that addictive digital technologies like smartphones and social media apps are harming a generation of kids socially, mentally, and even physically. But a workable solution seems elusive. After all, don't kids need phones, and won't they be vulnerable or socially isolated without tech? Clare Morell, fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and director of its Technology and Human Flourishing Project, argues that the answer is no. She exposes the lies parents have been sold about managing the dangers of tech through parental controls and screen-time limits, and demonstrates that another way is possible--even if your children are already using smartphones or social media. The Tech Exit maps a doable pathway to freedom from digital technology for families, local communities, and society. Drawing on dozens of interviews with experts and with families who have gone tech-free, as well as Morell's own work as a policy expert, The Tech Exit shows how digital technology is anything but necessary for children to live happy, healthy, and socially full lives. The Tech Exit is essential reading for any parent who has felt stuck between an awareness of the dangers of digital technology for kids and the feeling that tech is necessary and inevitable. Clare Morell's message is simple and compelling: You and your family can be free. The life you want for your children is within reach.

Reading Life Backward

2026/03/02 出版

READING LIFE BACKWARD: LATE RECOGNITION ON THE AUTISM SCALE is not a guide to becoming functional. It is an examination of what happens when someone already is.This book explores late recognition of autism through a series of essays organized not by timeline, but by clarity. Each piece isolates a pattern that once operated invisibly-masking, internal system-building, misattunement, endurance mistaken for resilience-and renders it intelligible without reducing it todeficit or disorder.Written from within a specific autistic configuration historically described as Asperger's, the work focuses on lives that appeared intact from the outside while quietly collapsing under unseen strain.High verbal ability. Predictive cognition. Extensive self-management.Chronic exhaustion with no obvious cause. Functioning that concealed cost.Rather than offering strategies or solutions, READING LIFE BACKWARD: LATE RECOGNITION ON THE AUTISM SCALE provides orientation. It traces how survival structures form without conscious intent, how confidence can coexist with exclusion, and how identity built for endurance begins to fail once recognition arrives.Interwoven throughout are situational pieces-architectural, elemental, relational-that allow meaning to settle without instruction. These are not explanations. They are points of contact. This book is for readers who have always sensed that something about their life required excessive effort-but lacked language for why. For those who did not break, but narrowed. For those whose clarity never translated into belonging. For those who are not looking to be fixed, but to finally understand the structure they've been living inside. This is not a story of recovery. It is a record of recognition. And once seen, it cannot be unseen.

Elinor Wyllys Vol. II

Double 9 Books 出版
2026/02/27 出版

Elinor Wwyllys Vol. II or the young folk of Longbridge: A tale presents a quiet country household where daily life appears simple, yet filled with subtle tensions and unspoken expectations. The narrative observes a young woman on the threshold of adulthood, surrounded by familiar routines, well-meaning relatives, and the gentle rhythms of a rural community. Portions of the text linger on the setting itself, describing a house that carries traces of history and age, suggesting that the past quietly shapes every present interaction. Family gatherings, polite social visits, and seasonal celebrations reveal how quickly childhood ease begins to give way to questions about identity, responsibility, and independence. Among conversations and ordinary tasks, the young protagonist studies the world around her, trying to interpret the motives, emotions, and behaviors of the people she encounters. The arrival of visitors introduces surprise, discomfort, humor, and uncertainty, hinting that the wider world may not resemble the sheltered environment she knows. Quiet reflection mixes with outward observation as she learns that the passage into adulthood involves balancing personal desire with social duty, and confidence with doubt.

Albert Savarus

Double 9 Books 出版
2026/02/27 出版

Albert Savarus traces the arrival of a discreet yet ambitious lawyer who becomes the center of quiet speculation within a refined provincial community. The narrative begins by presenting the social atmosphere of Besancon, where traditions, status, and family reputation shape every interaction. The newly arrived lawyer quickly draws curiosity due to an impressive professional record and an aura of mystery. Within the elite circles of the town, people debate his background and intentions, revealing how strongly society values perception over truth. A young woman from an influential household becomes increasingly focused on him, driven by fascination and a desire for personal freedom from strict expectations. As ambitions, secrecy, and emotional longing intersect, carefully maintained reputations begin to fracture. Relationships form not through openness, but through observation, speculation, and calculated decisions. The story explores the cost of aspiration and the emotional toll exerted by a society where inner lives must remain hidden. Ultimately, the novel highlights how quiet determination can disrupt rigid social boundaries and expose vulnerabilities beneath polished public facades.

The History Of Samuel Titmarsh And The Great Hoggarty Diamond

Double 9 Books 出版
2026/02/27 出版

The history of Samuel Titmarsh and the great Hoggarty Diamond follows the unexpected rise of a modest office worker whose life changes after receiving an extravagant ornament from a wealthy relative. Hoping it will bring fortune and independence, the recipient imagines new possibilities as the gift seems to promise access to higher social circles. Instead of money, however, the present turns out to be a large and overly ornate piece of jewelry that draws attention wherever it appears. As the young worker returns to the city, the ornament becomes the source of praise, envy, and confusion. The object exposes the contrast between everyday struggles and the superficial standards of the elite, revealing how quickly people are judged based on appearances. Invitations, opportunities, and misunderstandings follow as the ornament becomes a symbol of status that complicates personal ambitions. Through humorous encounters and shifting expectations, the narrative explores how aspiration and vanity influence choices, showing that material symbols rarely lead to genuine happiness.

Deirdre Of The Sorrows

J M,Synge  著
Double 9 Books 出版
2026/02/27 出版

Deirdre of the sorrows is built on ideas of inevitability, longing, and the price of choice. From the selected text, what emerges most strongly is the tension between personal desire and a future already shaped by others. The central figure grows up watched and sheltered, yet restless for experiences beyond the boundaries placed around her. Her inner world contrasts sharply with the calculations of those who see her as a possession or symbol of power. There is a sense of collision between innocence and authority, as expectations from leaders and society press against her yearning for freedom and connection. The lifting movement in the early scenes comes from discovery and possibility, yet every moment of hope is shadowed by warnings. The story examines how emotion intensifies when individuals try to resist roles imposed on them, and how love becomes both refuge and catalyst for irreversible change. Even small gestures carry weight because desire challenges obligation. This opening section builds a mood of quiet urgency, reinforcing that choices made from the heart can reshape entire worlds, but with profound cost.
