Violette’s Illustrated Diary of Friendship Memories, 1915 - 1930
Any diary conjures up a feeling of secrecy, of private thoughts of life experiences that are committed to the pages of a journal for a specific purpose which is close to the writer's heart. I accidentally lay my hands on Violette's diary to discover that it was a World War I heirloom and not the intimate thoughts of a young girl. In fact it is the testament of Violette's friends as they expressed their heartfelt well-wishes to her by committing them into her diary of friendship memories spanning fifteen years, from 1915 to 1930. My fortuitous discovery of Violette's tomb in the local cemetery led me to wish to reproduce the diary while attempting to elicit the feelings and emotions of such a remote and yet contemporary period of events which sadly resonate in 21st century Europe.
Breaking the Fence
Greetings from the Author. A book can do and be many things. It can transport the reader into various experiences, emotions, visions and feelings that can comfort, inform, cause tears or laughter. Breaking the Fence is the continuation of one mans life journey exposing the incredible mystery of faith, hope and love. After the book Jumping the Fence was published people wanted to know what happened when i reached the Light. Breaking the Fence brings the reader into a kingdom of two principles. Learning from great love and understanding or from great pain and suffering. Hi there, I am Kurt Chavarie born in the great state of Maine and currently living in Maryland. I love to write, fish, I enjoy traveling and nature. I was inspired to write after learning to write at age 30. Life was pretty dark growing up without those skills and it became a great adventure having acquired those skills. I wrote the book for those who said I could not do that.

Thought of The Day 101 (오늘의 말씀 101)
Expressing the "bottom line up front," this is a simple guidebook for your soul. Just like you need daily food and exercise for your body, you also need spiritual food for living because you are a spiritual being created in the image of God.We are human beings. There is your soul in your body. You need to take care of your soul as much as you take care of your body. This book is for the daily reflection and sustenance for your soul. Just think about you and your soul. Don't you think you need something to fill your soul? Let me ask a few questions. Do you know how to take care of your soul? What did you last do to enrich it? When was the last time that you felt contentment within your being? We, you and I, need the encouragement, the guidance, the love and the grace of God daily. This book will teach you some very basic lessons to take care of your soul. I am a 1st generation Korean American. This is why some of my English expressions may seem odd. Some could say, "This is not a good quality English book. I know that. I know my limitations in regard to the English language. I made this book in spite of that. Trust me, I thought and prayed a lot whether to publish this book or not. God may not give me fluent English language skills, but He did put a passion in my heart to write this book. I have just enough courage to take one step at a time.As you may know, I have sent out 101 spiritual messages to my people via email in 19 ESC for several months. I got many encouraging email responses in doing so. I was able to publish this book because of the many uplifting messages that were sent back to me. Through this work, I am also able to see God's intent and direction for my ministry is to touch people's lives every day. I hope that God's love will pour out upon each and every individual who reads this book. I also wish that you could feel and experience God's grace in your life through these messages.
The Loner Girl en Sudam矇rica
The Loner Girl en Sudam矇rica is volume 6 - and the first bilingual book - in the series On Being, a psychological, self-referential, metaphysical, astrological, diary case history. OB is a first-person, self-reflective narrative serving as a qualitative, longitudinal research project investigating what it means to be, using tools like astrology to explore human consciousness.Volume 6 documents the protagonist Ana's year 2014, when she travels to South America and learns Spanish as a 23-year-old, visitando varias ciudades en Uruguay, Argentina y Chile, y conociendo a la gente y las culturas diversas mientras luchaba con aprender el idioma. As On Being is the written evolution of Ana's consciousness throughout time in the form of personal, intimate diaries, and she was immersed in the Spanish language for the entire year of 2014, it follows that she would begin writing in Spanish. Thus this book is full of code-switching and linguistic experimentation that mixes English and Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish and/or have no interest in reading/learning it, 癒este libro no es para vos!
Yield
Named by the New Yorker as one of the best books of 2022, this posthumously published work serves as the fourth and final volume in Anne Truitt's remarkable series of journals "Anne Truitt's Yield has a tone that is rich and spare, considered and sensuous, inward-looking and utterly vibrant and vivid, fully alive in the world, inspiring for the reader."--Colm T籀ib穩n, author of The Master "Impressive. . . . Truitt lyrically looks back on 80 years of life. . . . [T]hese daily entries . . . offer a version of Truitt free of artifice as she meditates on the sacred and mundane. . . . This sparks with intelligence."--Publishers Weekly "Truitt wrote as she sculpted, returning to the past again and again to find fresh truths. . . . A model of discipline and open-ended inquiry and a welcome counterweight to the kind of anxieties that so often accompany a creative practice."--Megan O'Grady, New Yorker "In its stripped-down intimacy, Yield shows Truitt at her most eloquent in demonstrating, as her sculptures do, that all revelation in art is self-revelation."--Donna Rifkind, Wall Street Journal In the spring of 1974, the artist Anne Truitt (1921-2004) committed herself to keeping a journal for a year. She would continue the practice, sometimes intermittently, over the next six years, writing in spiral-bound notebooks and setting no guidelines other than to "let the artist speak." These writings were published as Daybook: The Journal of an Artist (1982). Two other journal volumes followed: Turn (1986) and Prospect (1996). This book, the final volume, comprises journals the artist kept from the winter of 2001 to the spring of 2002, two years before her death. In Yield, Truitt's unflinching honesty is on display as she contemplates her place in the world and comes to terms with the intellectual, practical, emotional, and spiritual issues that an artist faces when reconciling her art with her life, even as that life approaches its end. Truitt illuminates a life and career in which the demands, responsibilities, and rewards of family, friends, motherhood, and grandmotherhood are ultimately accepted, together with those of a working artist.
My Journey
Many five year olds first step through the door of their kindergarten classroom clutching a favorite toy or squeezing a wedge of their blanket. But not Michael. He strode through the open door carrying a book in his arms for he'd taught himself to read by the age of four. And never did he stop. When he turned ten, I bought Mike a complete set of the World Book Encyclopedia. The day they arrived I found him sitting at the kitchen table with Volume One. It was his intent to read through all 22 volumes until I convinced him that was neither necessary nor their purpose. This was the time before the internet, before when needing to know was but finger tips away. Reading was a key to discovery and learning, and learning was Mike's life long passion, particularly learning about history.
A Web of Friendship
Introduction by Hilary McPhee'I am not a born writer, but I must say that when I have actually launched myself I get the profoundest and most passionate satisfaction from writing.'-Christina SteadA Web of Friendship is a collection of Christina Stead's intimate correspondence with influential literary figures such as Stanley Burnshaw, Ettore Rella, Nettie Palmer, Clem Christesen, Elizabeth Harrower and A.D. Hope. These letters span the life of one of Australia's most illustrious writers, offering a rare insight into the relationships that influenced and sustained her work. They reveal Stead's reflections on the art of literature, the development of her political thought, and the significance of a handful of friendships that would endure throughout her life and career. The letters cover Stead's arrival in England in 1928, as well as her time abroad in Europe and the United States. They also detail her marriage to William Blake, their life in England where they settled in 1953, as well as her brief return to Australia and her final years in England following Blake's death.
Secret Voices
"United across centuries, these women's voices open doors to lost worlds and make them seem familiar. A modern classic." --Alison Weir A captivating collection of extracts from women's diaries, looking back over four centuries to discover how women's experience--of men and children, sex and shopping, work and the natural world--has changed down the years. And, of course, how it hasn't. In this fascinating anthology, with a selection of entries for every day of the year, you'll find Lady Anne Clifford in the seventeenth century and Loran Hurscot in the twentieth both stoically recording the demands of an unreasonable husband; Joan Wyndham and Anne Frank (at much the same time, but in wildly different settings) describing their first experiences with sex; and Anne Lister in the eighteenth-century north of England exploring her love affairs with women alongside Alice Walker in twentieth-century California. From Barbara Pym purchasing daring lingerie and Virginia Woolf relishing her new haircut to Sylvia Plath chronicling her ups and her downs and a stoical Amelia Stewart Knight on the pioneer trail, this book contains a rich mix of incredibly well-known diarists and more obscure ones, and often the voices echoing down the centuries sound eerily familiar today.

Ageless Glamour Girls
"Just keep on living..." My late mother, the inspiration for Ageless Glamour Girls(TM), used to love saying this. I first heard it in my mid-twenties, but it didn't click until later in life when I began navigating this aging journey. And among many of our mothers back then, there was very little, if any, talk with their daughters about growing older, and all that comes with it. And the M-word? What the heck is that? This void inspired me to want to share information and engage with other women on the same journey. My first foray into gathering and celebrating women came years ago when I set out to form the online group, Between Us Girls, and I secured the domain name, betweenusgirls.com. After my job began taking over my life, I somehow lost the domain before I got started in earnest, and when I checked it again, it was a porn site. Oh well... Several years later, and still on a mission to become a vehicle to help women manage aging, I created Ageless Glamour Girls(TM), targeting women 50+. (I cover the origin of the name in my chapter.) My vision was, and still is today, to provide a platform in which women of a certain age can "gather" together and share information on various topics, including caregiving, finances, second acts, menopause, plastic surgery, dementia, sexual health, grief, incontinence, and everything else from finding love to finding the best mascara that stands up to hot flashes. Our goal is to inform, inspire, empower, motivate, and entertain through the voices of various experts and women sharing their personal stories. We love uplifting and celebrating older women through various platforms, including social media posts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook - the AGG website, and a private FB group: The Ageless Caf矇, the Ageless Glamour Girls(TM) Podcast; and now an anthology: "Ageless Glamour Girls(TM) Reflections on Aging." I am THRILLED the women in this book chose to share their stories with me and the world. Get ready to be inspired, amazed, informed, and entertained! A huge thank you and shout out to my phenomenal co-authors! I love you, Ladies! #blessingsgalore

Material Wealth
A prolific poet, raconteur, activist, and thinker, Allen Ginsberg was also a prolific collector, meticulously saving letters, postcards, draft notes and manuscripts, photographs and snapshots, appearance bills and rally broadsheets, not only featuring him personally, but also his fellow poets, singers, lovers, writers, journey companions, friends, and agitators. Gathered here publicly for the first time is his personal archive of events and experiences documenting his life as a young man, breakaway poet, expansive spirit, curious intellectual traveler, and relentless enthusiast of the provocative and the profane. "Ginsberg was our angel. Look beneath your shopping cart--poetry is everywhere if you are so attuned. Ginsberg, like Whitman, is still underneath our boot soles. He left his corporeal existence in 1997, at age 70, but he left behind filing cabinets the size of Texas, and, in his new book, 'Material Wealth, ' Pat Thomas unloads the Ginsberg archive and leaves no stone unturned." - AIR MAIL "'Material Wealth' opens out Ginsberg's complexity and charisma and showcases a dynamic poet and public figure..." - TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT There are hundreds of thousands of items carefully stored and archived at Stanford University's Allen Ginsberg collection. Counterculture historian Pat Thomas, with the full cooperation of the Allen Ginsberg Estate's Peter Hale, has compiled and annotated a remarkable volume of material, unearthing in the process one astounding find after another. The result is a tome of previously unpublished historical paperwork and vintage graphics and photographs and ephemera that promises an unprecedented look inside one of the most prolific poets and agitators of cultural mores of the 20th century. A poster for Patti Smith's first-ever poetry reading. Correspondence from Allen's stint as literary agent for William S. Burroughs and Herbert Huncke. Yippie manifestos from Jerry Rubin, Abbie Hoffman, and John Sinclair of the MC5. A ticket for a 1974 concert by Bob Dylan & The Band (with Yoko Ono's phone number scribbled on the back). Posters documenting early Beat Generation readings in 1950s San Francisco as well as later ones capturing the 1960s Haight-Ashbury Hippie era. Allen's own remarkable journey is here, too: agreements for BBC Radio appearances, schedules of lecture tours, notes for his iconic Kaddish poem. A parody of Howl as 'Towel' by Terry Southern. Obsessive letters from fans he never met. Though this project is so much more than a book of Allen's photography, the featured images can't go unmentioned: Allen's lens finds not only Kerouac, Corso, Burroughs, and other Beats, but also Lou Reed, Van Morrison, Philip Glass, Norman Mailer, Marianne Faithful, Anne Waldman, Iggy Pop, Don Cherry, Robert Frank, and Patti Smith. You'll find he often scribbled his affection for the subject right on the photo itself. Packed with ephemera you've never seen, Material Wealth is a smorgasbord of things that most of us would have tossed away decades ago: notes to oneself, accounting statements, letters of intent, fan and media crushes, criticisms and critiques, posters of events now considered historical and cultural canon, political manifestos, et al. These are just a few of the most intriguing items folded between the pages of the one Ginsberg book that has never been--and needed to be done: a visual annotated compendium that reveals one of the unparalleled minds of his generation.

The Man From the Cave
Uncovering the Mystery of a Forgotten American The Man from the Cave is a uniquely compelling blend of investigative journalism, biography, and personal philosophy. Author, adventurer, and mentor to generations of backcountry hikers, Colin Fletcher discovered a dusty old trunk full of belongings at the mouth of a Nevada cave, and, upon studying the contents, became obsessed with finding out all he could about the former mystery tenant.Fletcher wrote of his quest in the San Francisco Chronicle and subsequently heard from an elderly woman who had been the cave-dweller's erstwhile romantic partner; his name: "Chuckawalla" Bill Simmons. With this key piece of information in hand, Fletcher followed Simmons' trail through several states and visited the National Archives, as well as Simmons' hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania. Tracking down friends and family members, he meticulously knits together the colorful past of a former military man who was a gambler and tried his hand at prospecting, all the while wandering about the American West under a series of pseudonyms. As with his other books, including The Man Who Walked Through Time and The Thousand-Mile Summer, Fletcher's narrative becomes as much about the author as about his subject: both men were wanderers, seeking many diverse and often solitary experiences. Anyone who enjoys high adventure and true tales of life on the fringes of society will find this a fascinating read. This book is also available from Echo Point Books as a hardcover (ISBN 1648373771).

The Muriel Rukeyser Era
Cowinner of the MLA Prize for Bibliographical or Archival ScholarshipThe Muriel Rukeyser Era makes available for the first time a range of Muriel Rukeyser's prose, a rich and diverse archive of political, social, and aesthetic writings. Eric Keenaghan and Rowena Kennedy-Epstein assemble a selection of unpublished and out-of-print texts, demonstrating the diversity, brilliance, and possibilities of mid-twentieth-century women's intellectual life and sociopolitical engagement.Although primarily known as a poet, Rukeyser produced an expansive and influential body of nonfiction and critical writings. Reflective of a deeply committed thinker, her accessible but philosophically complex prose--including essays, lectures, radio scripts, stories, and reviews--addresses issues related to racial, gender, and class justice, war and war crimes; the prison-industrial complex, Jewish culture and diaspora, motherhood, literature, music, cinema, and translation. Many of the selected texts have been forgotten, have fallen out of print, or were never previously published because of conservative Cold War political and gender orthodoxies. The Muriel Rukeyser Era offers new insight into Rukeyser's radical and strikingly contemporary vision for the role of the writer--especially the woman writer. This selection reveals the centrality of feminism, antifascism, and antiracism to her thinking and thus affirms the resonance and urgency of her work today.
