Short Diary Fiction
Diaries capture the most intimate and revealing aspects of diarists' perception of themselves and the world around them. Throughout history, fiction writers have turned to the diary genre to maximize the intimacy and credibility of their narratives and to tell stories that bridge the personal and the social. This collection is the first to make visible the historical and global scope of short stories that use diaries as a structuring form or thematic inspiration. The book gathers twenty stories that span three centuries, from ten different countries and seven different languages. Although written in a range of styles from Romanticism to science fiction to Gothic to climate fiction, these stories cohere around key diary themes: privacy and publicity, self-discovery and self-delusion, love and sexuality, gender roles and social codes, time and technology, among others. Featuring an introduction to diary fiction, guiding headnotes, and a list of additional recommended reading, Daniels-Lerberg and Henderson's anthology makes a valuable intervention in literary history by illustrating the popularity of diary fiction across the globe and in diverse literary traditions. At the intersection of autobiographical self-narrative and riveting storytelling, these works of diary fiction promise to entertain, inform, and spark new ideas in both readers and keepers of diaries.

Diaries 1999-2009: The Brand New Volume from the Beloved Author, TV Icon and Monty Python Star
THE FOURTH VOLUME OF MICHAEL PALIN'S BESTSELLING DIARIES A new millennium, and a new chapter for Michael Palin unfolds. With a Hemingway travel project testing his confidence, doubts creeping in about his abilities as a writer, the death of his great friend George Harrison and the last of his children leaving home, the dawn of the twenty-first century sees Michael at his most reflective yet. Over the next ten years, we watch through Michael's eyes as the world reels from the successive shocks of September 11, the 7/7 bombings and the global financial crash. With the warmth and gentle empathy that have endeared him to millions of fans over the decades, Michael documents the day-to-day detail of living in a world buffeted by such powerful winds of change. And amidst this turbulence, one thing remains constant: Michael's irrepressible curiosity and thirst for adventure. These diaries follow his life as he comes and goes through the filming of four blockbuster travel documentaries - Hemingway Adventure, Sahara, Himalaya and New Europe - and reaches the peak of his fame as a beloved TV traveller. And five years on from the last of his children flying the nest, Michael embarks on his greatest adventure yet: becoming a besotted grandfather. There and Back is a new window into the world of Michael Palin, one that reveals more than ever the strength and succour he draws from those ever-present supporting structures in his life: his family, his friendships and, of course, the Pythons.

Letters to My Dead Name
Richard struggled for much of his life with a mystery. Why was he uneasy and uncomfortable? Why did he feel like an imposter? In his sixties, he made a discovery that would change his life and his creative work. He realized that his life as a man did not fit with who he knew himself to be. He began the journey of transition that led him to emerge in his San Francisco community as "Richelle Lee," leaving "Richard" behind. This powerful book of poems by Richelle is a magnificent collection of metrical poetry that gifts the reader with honest passion and delightful good humor. Richelle Lee Slota's poems open themselves to the world in private and public "letters" that dare to test a society full of hate and division. These letters/poems are stronger than the terror and rejection the writer faces. The beauty of her rhythm and her emotional honesty--and Richelle's dazzling technical energy--reach out to anyone seeking optimism and hope and provide nourishment. "Catch the cis-brained psyches' sober iambs/write, thrumming clever like a cleaver transgender tie-ins," Richelle writes. See the gifted person who has discarded her dead name and be captivated, enlarged, and changed by this writer of unique and moving poetry, who courageously signs her new name to every poem.

The Private Thoughts of a Traveling Preacher's Wife
Louisa Foster came to Texas as a child with the Old Three Hundred, the first settlers brought to Texas by Stephen F. Austin. She married a young traveling preacher from Tennessee, the Rev. Finis Foster. Unlike many women at this time, Louisa was educated and well read. During this period, discussions and critical views of religion were the domains of the men. Louisa, however, voiced her views freely and believed that women should be allowed to do so. Having turned to religion for consolation following multiple deaths in her family, Louisa organized and led her own weekly prayer group and was one of the few women to actively try to convert both men and women to her church. She kept a diary, and in these eleven journals from 1847 to 1870, Louisa recounts the difficult weather conditions, the Civil War, religion, conflicting views on slavery, the prices of goods, disease and medicine, and raising a family on the frontier in Central Texas. Louisa's youngest son, John Collier Foster, also kept a diary, from 1882 to 1883, with vivid descriptions of his social life in town and his impressions of seeing the first electric light and the first telephone. These firsthand accounts give unique insight into life in Texas in the mid-nineteenth century.
Memories of Distant Mountains
The journals of the Nobel Prize-winning author, beautifully illustrated with his own paintings For many years, Orhan Pamuk kept a record of his daily thoughts and observations, entering them in small notebooks and illustrating them with his own paintings. This book combines those notebooks into one volume. He writes about his travels around the world, his family, his writing process, and his complex relationship with his home country of Turkey. He charts the seeds of his novels and the things that inspired his characters and the plots of his stories. Intertwined in his writings are the vibrant paintings of the landscapes that surround and inspire him. A beautiful object in its own right, in Memories of Distant Mountains readers can explore Pamuk's intoxicating inner world and can have a fascinating, intimate encounter with the art, culture, and charged political currents that have shaped one of literature's most important voices.
Both/And
From Denne Michele Norris and Electric Literature, a vital anthology of essays by trans and gender-nonconforming writers of color, sharing stories of joy, heartbreak, rage, and self-discovery.Featuring seventeen essays by trans people of color--spanning writers, scientists, actors, activists, and drag queens--Both/And explores what it means to live as a trans or gender nonconforming person of color today.Acclaimed authors Akwaeke Emezi, Tana簿s, and Meredith Talusan share their stories alongside activist and organizer Raquel Willis and RuPaul's Drag Race star Peppermint, as well as a host of rising literary talent. Each story is told with honesty, authenticity, and beauty. A nonbinary molecular biologist has nightmares about their estranged father transitioning. A writer revisits a casual hook-up when she discovered her womanhood. And a woman vacations with her wife in Hawaii, where she gets in touch with the fire goddess within. These stories depict real trans lives from trans points of view, at a time when these perspectives are most urgent and valuable.Inspired by Electric Literature's groundbreaking series and edited by the first Black, openly trans editor-in-chief of a major literary publication, Both/And uplifts and amplifies stories of queer joy, heartbreak, rage, and self-discovery.
Living a Grateful Life
In this volume, we will focus on being happier, healthier, and more positive about life through the development of the capacity to become increasingly more grateful. And there is little doubt that gratefulness, like hope, vision, and knowledge, can be achieved through the development of tools and resources that are commonly available to most of us. And let's face it, the most commonly available tools used here, in this book, are those that help us reflect on life while living it. Most of us possess this tool, that of reflection, and all of us could probably better use it to our benefit and the benefit of those around us. To aid in this reflection the reader will find many suggestions and guidelines for managing past, present and future experiences. To this end there are lots of practical examples and exercises to encourage an interactive growth process.
Controversy

Rescue Tails
Every day, countless dogs are dropped off at shelters, discovered wandering the streets, or saved from unsafe conditions. This book provides an intimate look into the inner world of these dogs. Many of them come from high-kill shelters; some have been deserted, and others have tragically lost their human companions. These are their stories, as interpreted by the author, of their resilience, hope, and love. Partial proceeds from the sale of this book will go to rescue organizations.
Queer Correspondence
Celebrating queer love in all its forms, this moving collection champions the richly passionate love letters, poetry, and journals of history's queer writers. Much of the love between queer people endures in their letters and writings because it had to be kept discreet and private for so long. From the lyrical verse of Sappho and the poignant musings of Emily Dickinson to the fiery expressions of Oscar Wilde and Lord Byron, this carefully curated collection evidences the all-encompassing and defiant power of love in the face of adversity. The works of writers such as Herman Melville, Gertrude Stein, and A. E. Housman, are also featured, as well as revelatory letters from King James VI and I. Violette's Illustrated Diary of Friendship Memories, 1915 - 1930
Any diary conjures up a feeling of secrecy, of private thoughts of life experiences that are committed to the pages of a journal for a specific purpose which is close to the writer's heart. I accidentally lay my hands on Violette's diary to discover that it was a World War I heirloom and not the intimate thoughts of a young girl. In fact it is the testament of Violette's friends as they expressed their heartfelt well-wishes to her by committing them into her diary of friendship memories spanning fifteen years, from 1915 to 1930. My fortuitous discovery of Violette's tomb in the local cemetery led me to wish to reproduce the diary while attempting to elicit the feelings and emotions of such a remote and yet contemporary period of events which sadly resonate in 21st century Europe.
Breaking the Fence
Greetings from the Author. A book can do and be many things. It can transport the reader into various experiences, emotions, visions and feelings that can comfort, inform, cause tears or laughter. Breaking the Fence is the continuation of one mans life journey exposing the incredible mystery of faith, hope and love. After the book Jumping the Fence was published people wanted to know what happened when i reached the Light. Breaking the Fence brings the reader into a kingdom of two principles. Learning from great love and understanding or from great pain and suffering. Hi there, I am Kurt Chavarie born in the great state of Maine and currently living in Maryland. I love to write, fish, I enjoy traveling and nature. I was inspired to write after learning to write at age 30. Life was pretty dark growing up without those skills and it became a great adventure having acquired those skills. I wrote the book for those who said I could not do that.

Queer Correspondence
Celebrating queer love in all its forms, this moving collection champions the richly passionate love letters, poetry, and journals of history's queer writers. Much of the love between queer people endures in their letters and writings because it had to be kept discreet and private for so long. A compelling testament to the resilience of forbidden relationships, Queer Correspondence spans centuries and continents to showcase the hearts and minds of some of history's most celebrated writers. Aiming to capture the diverse array of queer love stories throughout history, this volume of intimate, heartfelt writings immortalises the work of queer writers whose words continue to resonate and inspire.

Thought of The Day 101 (오늘의 말씀 101)
Expressing the "bottom line up front," this is a simple guidebook for your soul. Just like you need daily food and exercise for your body, you also need spiritual food for living because you are a spiritual being created in the image of God.We are human beings. There is your soul in your body. You need to take care of your soul as much as you take care of your body. This book is for the daily reflection and sustenance for your soul. Just think about you and your soul. Don't you think you need something to fill your soul? Let me ask a few questions. Do you know how to take care of your soul? What did you last do to enrich it? When was the last time that you felt contentment within your being? We, you and I, need the encouragement, the guidance, the love and the grace of God daily. This book will teach you some very basic lessons to take care of your soul. I am a 1st generation Korean American. This is why some of my English expressions may seem odd. Some could say, "This is not a good quality English book. I know that. I know my limitations in regard to the English language. I made this book in spite of that. Trust me, I thought and prayed a lot whether to publish this book or not. God may not give me fluent English language skills, but He did put a passion in my heart to write this book. I have just enough courage to take one step at a time.As you may know, I have sent out 101 spiritual messages to my people via email in 19 ESC for several months. I got many encouraging email responses in doing so. I was able to publish this book because of the many uplifting messages that were sent back to me. Through this work, I am also able to see God's intent and direction for my ministry is to touch people's lives every day. I hope that God's love will pour out upon each and every individual who reads this book. I also wish that you could feel and experience God's grace in your life through these messages.
My Journey
Many five year olds first step through the door of their kindergarten classroom clutching a favorite toy or squeezing a wedge of their blanket. But not Michael. He strode through the open door carrying a book in his arms for he'd taught himself to read by the age of four. And never did he stop. When he turned ten, I bought Mike a complete set of the World Book Encyclopedia. The day they arrived I found him sitting at the kitchen table with Volume One. It was his intent to read through all 22 volumes until I convinced him that was neither necessary nor their purpose. This was the time before the internet, before when needing to know was but finger tips away. Reading was a key to discovery and learning, and learning was Mike's life long passion, particularly learning about history.
Secret Voices
"United across centuries, these women's voices open doors to lost worlds and make them seem familiar. A modern classic." --Alison Weir A captivating collection of extracts from women's diaries, looking back over four centuries to discover how women's experience--of men and children, sex and shopping, work and the natural world--has changed down the years. And, of course, how it hasn't. In this fascinating anthology, with a selection of entries for every day of the year, you'll find Lady Anne Clifford in the seventeenth century and Loran Hurscot in the twentieth both stoically recording the demands of an unreasonable husband; Joan Wyndham and Anne Frank (at much the same time, but in wildly different settings) describing their first experiences with sex; and Anne Lister in the eighteenth-century north of England exploring her love affairs with women alongside Alice Walker in twentieth-century California. From Barbara Pym purchasing daring lingerie and Virginia Woolf relishing her new haircut to Sylvia Plath chronicling her ups and her downs and a stoical Amelia Stewart Knight on the pioneer trail, this book contains a rich mix of incredibly well-known diarists and more obscure ones, and often the voices echoing down the centuries sound eerily familiar today.

Thoughts and Feelings helps you come to terms with those experiences through observing and understanding them in a way that will change YOU, and your life for the better.Note from the author..."I often have these deep thoughts and feelings that I express in the only way I know how...through words. I don't usually share them as most are a passing moment, a sudden reflection or a personal perspective of my experiences. But now, I really feel it's time to release them for others to relate to, connect with and to gain inspiration from. I invite you to get a pencil, co-write and express yourself in the same way within this book. You may write something in relation to what I have written or something completely different...that side of the book is yours. And in the end, you will have your own Thoughts and Feelings Volume One book written. If you do not feel ready to write anything, that is also fine. I hope you enjoy the read."Love, Daniel Chidiac
