Ageless Glamour Girls
"Just keep on living..." My late mother, the inspiration for Ageless Glamour Girls(TM), used to love saying this. I first heard it in my mid-twenties, but it didn't click until later in life when I began navigating this aging journey. And among many of our mothers back then, there was very little, if any, talk with their daughters about growing older, and all that comes with it. And the M-word? What the heck is that? This void inspired me to want to share information and engage with other women on the same journey. My first foray into gathering and celebrating women came years ago when I set out to form the online group, Between Us Girls, and I secured the domain name, betweenusgirls.com. After my job began taking over my life, I somehow lost the domain before I got started in earnest, and when I checked it again, it was a porn site. Oh well... Several years later, and still on a mission to become a vehicle to help women manage aging, I created Ageless Glamour Girls(TM), targeting women 50+. (I cover the origin of the name in my chapter.) My vision was, and still is today, to provide a platform in which women of a certain age can "gather" together and share information on various topics, including caregiving, finances, second acts, menopause, plastic surgery, dementia, sexual health, grief, incontinence, and everything else from finding love to finding the best mascara that stands up to hot flashes. Our goal is to inform, inspire, empower, motivate, and entertain through the voices of various experts and women sharing their personal stories. We love uplifting and celebrating older women through various platforms, including social media posts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook - the AGG website, and a private FB group: The Ageless Caf矇, the Ageless Glamour Girls(TM) Podcast; and now an anthology: "Ageless Glamour Girls(TM) Reflections on Aging." I am THRILLED the women in this book chose to share their stories with me and the world. Get ready to be inspired, amazed, informed, and entertained! A huge thank you and shout out to my phenomenal co-authors! I love you, Ladies! #blessingsgalore

The Man From the Cave
Uncovering the Mystery of a Forgotten American The Man from the Cave is a uniquely compelling blend of investigative journalism, biography, and personal philosophy. Author, adventurer, and mentor to generations of backcountry hikers, Colin Fletcher discovered a dusty old trunk full of belongings at the mouth of a Nevada cave, and, upon studying the contents, became obsessed with finding out all he could about the former mystery tenant.Fletcher wrote of his quest in the San Francisco Chronicle and subsequently heard from an elderly woman who had been the cave-dweller's erstwhile romantic partner; his name: "Chuckawalla" Bill Simmons. With this key piece of information in hand, Fletcher followed Simmons' trail through several states and visited the National Archives, as well as Simmons' hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania. Tracking down friends and family members, he meticulously knits together the colorful past of a former military man who was a gambler and tried his hand at prospecting, all the while wandering about the American West under a series of pseudonyms. As with his other books, including The Man Who Walked Through Time and The Thousand-Mile Summer, Fletcher's narrative becomes as much about the author as about his subject: both men were wanderers, seeking many diverse and often solitary experiences. Anyone who enjoys high adventure and true tales of life on the fringes of society will find this a fascinating read. This book is also available from Echo Point Books as a paperback (ISBN 164837378X).
One Soul We Divided
The first book-length selection from the extraordinary unpublished diary of the late-Victorian writer "Michael Field"--the pen name of two female coauthors and romantic partners Michael Field was known to late-Victorian readers as a superb poet and playwright--until Robert Browning let slip Field's secret identity: in fact, "Michael Field" was a pseudonym for Katharine Bradley (1846-1914) and Edith Cooper (1862-1913), who were lovers, a devoted couple, and aunt and niece. For thirty years, they kept a joint diary titled Works and Days that eventually reached almost 10,000 pages. One Soul We Divided is the first critical edition of selections from this remarkable unpublished work. A fascinating personal and literary experiment, the diary tells the extraordinary story of the love, art, ambitions, and domestic life of a queer couple in fin de si癡cle London. It also tells vivid firsthand stories of the literary and artistic worlds Bradley and Cooper inhabited and of their encounters with such celebrities as Browning, Oscar Wilde, W. B. Yeats, Aubrey Beardsley, and Bernard Berenson. Carolyn Dever provides essential context, including explanatory notes, a cast of characters, a family tree, and a timeline. An unforgettable portrait of two writers and their unexpected romantic, literary, and artistic marriage, One Soul We Divided rewrites what we think we know about Victorian women, intimacy, and sexuality.

A Century of Queer Korean Fiction
Selections from the past hundred years of queer Korean literatureFollowing decades of LGBTQ+ activism, South Korea has seen a flowering of queer literature, film, and Internet culture. Many openly gay, lesbian, transgender, and other queer Korean writers find themselves in the national and international spotlight. But the rich variety of queer representation also extends into the Korean past, as this volume illustrates.Beginning with contemporary works of fiction by Kim Bi, Sang Young Park, and Yi Seoyoung and reaching back through the last century, this collection includes works by the canonical authors Yi Kwangsu, Yi Kiyŏng, Ch'oe Chŏnghŭi, and O Chŏnghŭi as well as stories by Yu Sŭngjin and Kim Sunyŏng that have been recovered from archives. The introduction places these representations of queerness in their historical and cultural context, explores the sometimes problematic norms found in the stories, and considers the potential these texts hold for destabilizing binaries of sex and gender. This volume contains the following works: "Yundo Is Back" (2017), "My Queer Year of Junior High" (2016), "Saltwater Baths" (2006), "Traditional Solo" (1970), "Struggling amid This Despair" (1965), "Spring" (1950), selections from the novel Spring (1940), "Dear Sister, I'm Off to the Moon" (1933), and "Yun Kwangho" (1918).
The Muriel Rukeyser Era
Cowinner of the MLA Prize for Bibliographical or Archival ScholarshipThe Muriel Rukeyser Era makes available for the first time a range of Muriel Rukeyser's prose, a rich and diverse archive of political, social, and aesthetic writings. Eric Keenaghan and Rowena Kennedy-Epstein assemble a selection of unpublished and out-of-print texts, demonstrating the diversity, brilliance, and possibilities of mid-twentieth-century women's intellectual life and sociopolitical engagement.Although primarily known as a poet, Rukeyser produced an expansive and influential body of nonfiction and critical writings. Reflective of a deeply committed thinker, her accessible but philosophically complex prose--including essays, lectures, radio scripts, stories, and reviews--addresses issues related to racial, gender, and class justice, war and war crimes; the prison-industrial complex, Jewish culture and diaspora, motherhood, literature, music, cinema, and translation. Many of the selected texts have been forgotten, have fallen out of print, or were never previously published because of conservative Cold War political and gender orthodoxies. The Muriel Rukeyser Era offers new insight into Rukeyser's radical and strikingly contemporary vision for the role of the writer--especially the woman writer. This selection reveals the centrality of feminism, antifascism, and antiracism to her thinking and thus affirms the resonance and urgency of her work today.

A Phantasmagorical Machine
Los Angeles in the 1970s, with all its lazy pleasures and dreams, its crimes spoken and unspoken ... It's 1978, and a lonely teenage boy named Harris wanders the wide San Fernando Valley streets, searching for meaning in the cars of men who pick him up at strip mall parking lots. When one of his rides asks if he'd like to be in a movie, he discovers a newfound sense of purpose and identity, as the scruffy-haired Southern California boy in low-budget gay porn loops. Meanwhile, the actress Eva Loesch -- well known for grace, wit, charm and dignity, but now reduced to coffee commercials -- is offered the chance to join a hit TV series, and with it, the possibility of rebuilding her career and self-esteem. As she warns her family -- especially her grandson, Harris -- that nothing must impugn her respectability as DA on the popular crime drama Bowman, Harris's own underground popularity begins to soar. As their careers intertwine, their dueling ambitions threaten to bring down the carefully constructed images, and lives, they both worked so hard to create. Equal parts humor and heartbreak, A Phantasmagorical Machine is the story of a family of survivors, and the city that made them. One day, years after the unresolved events of his youth, Harris discovers his own obituary in a magazine. As the crimes and mysteries of the past reveal themselves, the search for who died in a lonely desert trailer brings the whole family together, to finally reckon with the meaning of love, attachment, loss and forgiving.

The Grand Tour Diaries of William Guise from Lausanne to Rome
William Guise, later Sir William Guise, 5th Baronet of Elmore, travelled in Switzerland and Italy in 1764 in the company of Edward Gibbon, the historian. Two journals chronicling in great detail the first part of their tour, from Lausanne to Florence, Rome and other Italian cities, and the cultural sites and artefacts that they saw, have survived in the archives of Elmore Court, Gloucestershire, which was the Guise family home. Despite their historic and cultural interest, there has until now been no full transcription of these journals (totalling 83,000 words) apart from some references to them in an edition of Gibbon's diaries. As well as perceptive comments and opinions on the architecture, statues, pictures and other works of art which they saw, there are extensive references to military matters and fortifications; to the politics and governance of the towns of Northern Italy and to travel and lodging issues. The journals illustrate the serious nature of the Grand Tour as undertaken by Guise and his better known travelling companion, Edward Gibbon.

Laugh
This book is a place to record the many times of laughter and joy you have as a family and create an account of your journey together. Record all the good times God has blessed you with as you walk through this life. Let the pages be filled with happy memories. Write down the funny stories, the challenges God brought you through, the victories and successes (both big and small), the miracles God worked out in your life, and any prophesies given. Life moves so very fast and if we don't write down the stories of the situations that made us who we are, we often forget or focus on the tough/bad stuff. Make this a book that brings laughter and joy to your family as you look at all the good things God has done for you and all that He is bringing you into. "A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed." Prov. 15:13 "Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." Psalm 126:2 "Laughter is the most beautiful and beneficial therapy God ever granted humanity." Chuck Swindoll Love always, laugh often, and grow together.

Travels in the Americas
Albert Camus's lively journals from his eventful visits to the United States and South America in the 1940s, available again in a new translation. In March 1946, the young Albert Camus crossed from Le Havre to New York. Though he was virtually unknown to American audiences at the time, all that was about to change--The Stranger, his first book translated into English, would soon make him a literary star. By 1949, when he set out on a tour of South America, Camus was an international celebrity. Camus's journals offer an intimate glimpse into his daily life during these eventful years and showcase his thinking at its most personal--a form of observational writing that the French call choses vues (things seen). Camus's journals from these travels record his impressions, frustrations, joys, and longings. Here are his unguarded first impressions of his surroundings and his encounters with publishers, critics, and members of the New York intelligentsia. Long unavailable in English, the journals have now been expertly retranslated by Ryan Bloom, with a new introduction by Alice Kaplan. Bloom's translation captures the informal, sketch-like quality of Camus's observations--by turns ironic, bitter, cutting, and melancholy--and the quick notes he must have taken after exhausting days of travel and lecturing. Bloom and Kaplan's notes and annotations allow readers to walk beside the existentialist thinker as he experiences changes in his own life and the world around him, all in his inimitable style.
