The Magician of Tiger Castle
*AN INSTANT USA TODAY BESTSELLER *AN INDIE NEXT LIST PICK * A LIBRARY READS PICK * "Funny, surprising, smart and weird . . . fully lives up to the high bar you'd expect from a great like Sachar."--Associated Press "After decades of children's stories with adult intelligence, Sachar has given us an adult novel with a child's heart"--Alix E. Harrow The beloved author of Holes presents his first adult novel, a modern fantasy classic of forbidden love, a crumbling kingdom, and the unexpected magic all around us. Long ago and far away (and somewhere south of France) lies the kingdom of Esquaveta. There, Princess Tullia is in nearly as much peril as her struggling kingdom. Esquaveta desperately needs to forge an alliance, and to that end, Tullia's father has arranged a marriage between her and an odious prince. However, one month before the "wedding of the century," Tullia falls in love with a lowly apprentice scribe. The king turns to Anatole, his much-maligned magician. Seventeen years earlier, when Anatole first came to the castle, he was regarded as something of a prodigy. But after a long series of failures--the latest being an attempt to transform sand into gold--he has become the object of contempt and ridicule. The only one who still believes in him is the princess. When the king orders Anatole to brew a potion that will ensure Tullia agrees to the wedding, Anatole is faced with an impossible choice. With one chance to save the marriage, the kingdom, and, of most importance to him, his reputation, will he betray the princess--or risk ruin?

"As long as the great mountains stand and the rivers flow, the epic of Ramayana shall live in all the worlds."- Brahma, the creator. In India, every household talks about Rama and his beloved wife Sita. From a child to an adult, everyone knows the Ramayana. There are books, movies, tele serials and cartoons beautifully depicting the life of Rama and his laurels. Then why should you read this book?!The narrative of Rama can be interpreted from the perspective of Tataka, the demon, or from the viewpoint of Rama's sister Shantha. Additionally, Sita, whose unwavering love never flickers, can also be highlighted. From the perspective of Gauthama and Vasishta, it is likewise important to learn. If you are looking for one book which can cover all the titles of self-help, then it is the Ramayana. In my opinion, Ramayana implies that the greatest battle one has to fight is the conquest within one's own diminished self. This book is a retelling of Rama's Balakanda. The epic begins swiftly, proceeding towards small twists, plentiful morals and culminating into the wedding of Rama and Sita. Keeping the younger generation of men and women in mind, I have ensured that itis written in simple language and lucid narrative with every chapter drifting slowly and stealthily into the deepest corners of your heart. May Rama shower you with his grace.

She trades her tail for legs, marries the first man she meets, and bears a daughter--only to find domesticity as suffocating as the sea. Craving more, Ceto flees with her daughter Naia back to the ocean, where she reinvents herself as the star of a mermaid burlesque, performing in a lavish tank carved into the limestone cliffs above the waves. At Sirenland, Ceto's sensual performances and the erotic allure of her trained sirens transform the seaside attraction into a national sensation--a glittering empire where spectacle, desire, and female power reign. But as Naia comes of age and begins to question her mother's vision, the boundary between empowerment and exploitation grows dangerously thin. When a shocking death rocks Sirenland, Ceto's rule is threatened, and mother and daughter must reckon with the cost of performance on their already tenuous bond. Bind Me Tighter Still is a lush, provocative exploration of power, sex, sacrifice, and motherhood--a celebration of female strength in a world determined to tame it.

Some date back to pre-biblical days while others come from the American colonies. From her work as a deputy prosecuting attorney, Sharon Creed draws certain similarities between the cases she used to study and the ancient stories she tells. The Rooster Princess and Other Tales
"Rich and resonant with women's voices and values, at once familiar and entirely new."-Rachel Barenblat, "The Velveteen Rabbi," and author of Texts to the Holy Female protagonists turn Jewish folktales on their heads! What happens when stories with traditional male protagonists are updated with female characters? Timeless plots and values remain, while old tales transform to inspire and captivate a new generation. When Debra Gordon Zaslow first ventured into Jewish storytelling in the mid-1980s, she was surprised at how difficult it was to find Jewish tales featuring powerful female characters. This seemed odd, given the obvious strength of Jewish women. Over the years, she found herself slipping female characters into stories and changing male protagonists into females. Her criterion was simple: if it didn't change the basic meaning or plot of the story, the character could be female. There was always the sense, however, of meddling with something sacrosanct. These Jewish stories have been handed down for centuries, and who was she to change them?Decades later, comes this collection of stories. The maggidot (Jewish women storytellers) who wrote and compiled this innovative anthology have created a collection to honor Jewish values while featuring female characters in every central role. Some stories are female-centered versions of traditional tales (e.g. "The Fishmonger and the Shiviti" and "The Shekhinah Is in Exile"), others are original fiction inspired by perennial Jewish themes ("A Queer Soul in the Shtetl").
Myths And Folk Tales Of Ireland
Myths and folk tales of Ireland presents a rich tapestry of cultural imagination, drawing from oral traditions that blend enchantment, ancestral wisdom, and supernatural encounters. The collection amplifies a sense of wonder shaped by invisible forces, ancient beliefs, and deeply rooted values. Each tale immerses the reader in layered meanings hidden beneath the fantastical surfaces of curses, quests, and magical transformations. The collection enhances traditional narratives through repeated confrontations with fate, moral ambiguity, and the unknown, where individuals must rely on inner strength or guidance from mystical figures to survive trials beyond ordinary experience. The presence of giants, spirits, enchanted objects, and shape-shifting beings is not only a feature of folklore but a lens through which human fears, desires, and codes of honor are revealed. The journey motif recurs throughout, often leading protagonists into realms where time, identity, and nature itself are distorted. The enduring power of these stories lies in their ability to connect ancient belief systems with personal resilience and communal memory. Rooted in the landscapes and worldview of rural ireland, these stories preserve voices long past while continuing to stir the imagination with their symbolic depth and quiet force.

Five Mythological Tales
The FIVE MYTHOLOGICAL TALES are freely invented fables based on elements of pre-historic mythologies and folk tales of Celtic, Greek, Germanic, Middle Eastern and Egyptian origin. Their center is the sacred figure of the Woman as princess, goddess, sorceress and artist. Her main symbol is the moon in her three stages of new, full, and old moon. Other symbols in various cultures include the owl, the vulture, the sow, flowers and trees, and salt. Male counterparts include the king, the poet, the magician, and the singer. Except for the first story that sets the theme in a prehistoric environment, the other four stories are set in a modern environment in which the female characters must discover and reveal their inner natures.
The Voyage Home
From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Regeneration Trilogy comes the powerful third installment to the Women of Troy series. - In The Voyage Home, Pat Barker skillfully reimagines Greek mythology, chronicling a perilous journey undertaken by the enslaved healer Ritsa and her cruel mistress Cassandra. "One of contemporary literature's most thoughtful and compelling writers." --The Washington Post "Readers will relish this fierce feminist retelling." --Publishers Weekly I never saw Cassandra as a victim. I saw a woman as focused on a single aim as any raptor stooping to its prey; but then, I had more opportunities to observe her ruthlessness than most. I was in her power, you see. I was her slave. Pat Barker has crafted the latest in a brilliant reimagining of Greek mythology, and The Voyage Home is the work of a writer at the height of her powers. In this third outing, she follows the young Ritsa and the unpredictable Cassandra on their perilous return journey to Mycenae. Cassandra has acquired the powers of prophecy from the kiss of Apollo, but the very same god has taken away the people's belief in her abilities. Though she warns of the carnage that awaits the Greek warrior king Agamemnon--who numbs himself with alcohol on the storm-plagued trip home--her shipmates disregard her. While Cassandra's prophecies fall on deaf ears, Ritsa instead remains focused on surviving once they make land. When a mysterious young girl begins to shadow them, and Agamemnon's cruelty takes a new turn, Ritsa must find a safe place for Cassandra, whose mood alternates between cruelty and frenzy. But it's the ongoing ire between Queen Clytemnestra and Agamemnon that could prove fatal for everyone. In The Voyage Home, Barker elevates myth and legend and asks us to examine the stories we hold dear through a feminist lens, and in doing so she has crafted a tale that upholds her legacy as one of our finest contemporary novelists.

Ashes to Ashes
Small-town Minnesota teenager Basil "The Brute" Thorson--a shy, reluctant wrestling star and "special" tracked into special education classes--vows to make his family whole again in the wake of multiple tragedies, during a year in which his community is roiled by strange religious and mythological events. Another perceptive and empathetic novel from the author of Indie Next and All Iowa Reads selection Little Wolves, blending myth, history, and religion with a nuanced look at contemporary rural life, perfect for fans of Marilynne Robinson, Richard Russo, and Paul Harding. When the ashes from an Ash Wednesday service in the prairie town of Andwhen, Minnesota, refuse to wash off, members of a small congregation are left wondering whether they've been blessed or cursed. For Basil--a "gentle giant" of a teen reeling from a farming accident that shattered his family and haunted by his mother's decade-long confinement in a state mental hospital--the ashes become a sign. He embarks on a secret ritual of fasting and prayer, seeking meaning in his unraveling world. Meanwhile, Basil and his friends, Lukas and Morgan (who self-identify as "a gay, a goth, and a giant"), stumble upon what may be the centuries-old remains of a Viking explorer in a local meadow, a find that brings its own complications, as folk history clashes with the agendas of online racists. As Basil's relentless fasting warps his grip on reality, the danger he poses to himself and his family escalates. Blending the fragments of a Norse saga with a finely observed portrait of rural Midwestern life at the start of the pandemic, Thomas Maltman delivers a novel of narrative daring and profound empathy--his most inventive and compassionate work yet.
