The 1810 Grimm Manuscripts
Before the Brothers Grimm published their now world famous "Childrens and Household Tales" in 1812, they had sent their manuscript containing approximately 51 tales to their friend Clemens Brentano, who also wanted to publish children's tales. The brothers asked him to return their manuscript when he was finished with it, but he never did. While they went on to publish their tales, their own copies of the original manuscripts for the first volume of the tales do not exist anymore. By accident or fortunate circumstance, the manuscript they sent to Brentano survived and can be read today. "The 1810 Grimm Manuscripts" is the first English language translation of the Grimms "Kinder- und Hausm瓣rchen" as they were in the Fall of 1810. It is the first written documentation of the tales as the brothers heard and saw them. It shows the very first written documentation of the Grimms versions of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog King and many other tales.

Merlin's Candles
One of the most fascinating hypotheses in Arthurian lore is the belief that Merlin the Magician lived backwards through time. In this modern-day fantasy for fans of the King Arthur Legend, evil sorceress Morgan LeFay leaps through time to Merlin's youth, intent on destroying the wizard before he becomes the legendary mentor of kings. However, she is not prepared for what awaits her -- a seemingly strange and magical land filled with horseless carriages and flameless lights. Undaunted, Morgan sets out to expel Merlin from history and to destroy Merlin's student, a very special young hero. Living on Vancouver Island, 12-year-old Michael Halsey is protected from an evil sorceress by his eccentric 6th grade science teacher, Mr. Merlin. Beautiful but deadly Morgan Le Fay pursues Michael into the coastal rainforest of Strathcona Provincial Park where he meets the Lady of the Lake. In a final battle of wits, wills and magic, Merlin sacrifices his future to preserve the past.

Hero Tales and Legends of the Serbians
Woislav Petrovitch's compendium of Serbian myths and legends is a rich retrospective on the culture and stories of the nation. This edition includes all of the original notes and references.Superbly researched and of great and authentic depth, Woislav's collection was formally approved of by Serbia's Royal Legation, of which the author was a longstanding attache. Commencing with a detailed introduction of Serbia's customs and folk beliefs, we are thrust into an ancient and exotic culture with a history stretching back thousands of years. To set the tone, Petrovitch begins by telling the reader of how the finest poetry of the Serbian mythos was spread and established in the population at large. The first legend we hear is the hero saga of Kralyevitch Marko, a Royal Prince whose adventures were numerous and gallant. In keeping with Serbia's traditions, Marko's bravery and humanity, and even the traits of his trusty steed, receive emphasis in the story. In centuries past, Serbian folk tales often concerned the marriages and customs of the nobility. Several of the most splendid and entertaining occasions are included in this collection. A trio of expressive ballads, and a lengthy list of folk tales - many relating to the animal kingdom and containing moral lessons - comprise the book's latter portions.
Legends of the Delaware Indians and Picture Writing
The folklore of the Delaware Indians is fascinating for its imagery and affinity with the natural world - this illustrated book contains several of the finest legends and folk stories.Richard Calmit Adams mixes in stories of heroic prowess and bravery against the day-to-day life of the Delawares. The introductory verse features an elderly Native American man sharing some of the stories of his tribe with children; as well as talking about traditional life and everyday living, he keeps the narration entertaining with a series of legends told between the Delaware tribes for centuries. Although most of the tales are short, they are evocatively written and provide life lessons and cultural insight.Adams' retelling of the tribal folklore is greatly helped by more than forty illustrations. These depict characters in the stories, scenes of daily life, and traditional drawings and artworks concerning the hunt. Many of the legends concern animals, whom the Delawares considered to be significant representations of the natural world, with the most mighty or beautiful creatures considered to carry magical powers and blessings. After death, their bones and tusks were kept by the tribes for good fortune.
