His Infernal Highness Arcibaldo
C.S. Lewis wrote in his preface to The Screwtape Letters that there are two similar although complementary pitfalls into which one can fall when it comes to devils: either doubting their very existence or believing in them, but with an excessive interest - almost an obsession. The devils themselves delight in both and welcome a materialist as wholeheartedly as they do a magician. Their technique consists in convincing someone to be one or the other and then separating him from everyone else forever. Is it not true that the arts of the materialist and of the magician are back in fashion? Thus the devil's existence is denied by portraying him as a mere symbol of evil, or else, by attributing all man's misfortunes to him - including those of the Church - to the point of clouding the responsibility of men and of pastors. As St Augustine brilliantly said in one of his discourses (163B): "The devil must not be blamed in every instance; sometimes, in fact, man himself is a devil towards himself. So why must we beware of the devil? Precisely for this reason: so as not to deceive ourselves."Nonetheless, one thing prompted me to pay close attention to this correspondence and to ensure that it was not lost. Above all, the devil and the priest do the same job: they go in search of souls. And both of them could, without difficulty, make their own the motto of St John Bosco: Da mihi animas, cetera tolle - "Give me souls and take away all the rest".And so the time has come to take a look at this correspondence and to get to know that ancient craft, of which the practitioners have a predilection for the soul above all else: the soul, the real man as he is himself, who will be forever himself and cannot be confused with anyone else. One last word to the wise reader. The names chosen do not correspond to any particular person. They are rather the free expression of a way of thinking which, by some strange coincidence, brings the world of mortals closer to that of the hereafter.

The Voyage Of The Evangelist
The Voyage of the Evangelist is a fictional blending of two events which appear in the historical record for the eastern Mediterranean Sea in 828 CE. First, two Venetian merchants, anchored in the harbor of Alexandria, Egypt, smuggled the remains of St. Mark out of that city with the aid of two Coptic churchmen by hiding them under palettes of pork in the hold of their galley which the Moslem guards would not touch, and took them back to Venice where they were ultimately installed at the Piazza San Marco in St Mark's Basilica. The trip back to Venice was perilous and St. Mark performed a variety of miracles to ensure a safe journey home. Second, an Arab warrior named Abu Hafs, previously forced first out of Spain, and then again Alexandria, led an invasion of Crete, created an emirate and allowed a safe harbor for piracy to thriveUsing these stories, I have attempted to portray the Mediterranean world of late antiquity, and particularly the conflicts between the remaining Roman Empire at Constantinople, their chronic Arab enemies in Africa and Asia, and a Venice led by a merchant class attempting to build a new empire based on trading with both. There are twenty substantial characters propelling the plot, men and women of various ages and ethnicities, with different attitudes towards slavery, political allegiances and issues of religious faith, particularly the then prevalent obsession with relics.

Norman
Norman is the illustrated story of a man who insists he's fine, even as his mirror cracks, his checklist fractures, and his memory begins to leak. Told in ten surreal chapters, the book blends poetic monologue, short fiction, and haunting imagery. It is the first entry in the Fractured Faces series, which features portraits of characters emotionally unraveled by a world that offers no clear answers. This is not a tale of survival. It is a quiet spiral into oddness, grief, and strange acceptance. With hand-drawn illustrations, dark humor, and a touch of tenderness, Norman invites readers to linger at the edge of the page. Some may even recognize themselves in the twitch of an eye or the bruise that hums. This is a short, unsettling work of visual literature for readers who appreciate outsider art, poetic fiction, and strange minds.
