Gecko Magic
Another island...another Key to try to beat my father to...So it turns out there's not one, not two, but four Elemental Keys we're chasing. "We" being me - Raney Meadows, half undine and out-of-work actress - along with my three Elemental teammates, and my father and the demon riding him. The Keys fit a Door behind which is a Tool of Ultimate Earthly Destruction, and it would be a Very Bad Thing if my father got them all. Right now, the good guys are 0-for-2. The demon tricked us out of the Water Key in West Virginia and the Earth Key in Ireland. But we are determined to beat him to the Fire Key in Hawaii - while staying out of my father's way, of course, so he doesn't snatch me and put me in his collection of singular things.Anyway, if we lose this one - which we won't, but if we do - we'll have one more chance: the Air Key is somewhere in Colorado. But I'm sure we won't have to go that far...
Road Trip
Hector's your average kinda guy. Nothing fancy. Not very ambitious. Never been out of his hometown. Fine by him. Then a disgraced, albeit well-dressed, Diet Coke-drinking demon who calls himself Art tries to sweet talk Hector into becoming his sidekick. Hector isn't interested. Art's method of persuasion includes blowing up Hector's place of employment and setting Hector up to be blamed. The plan? To stop a certain US president from unleashing some nasty bombs on the Canadians, thus triggering the premature end of the world, and-here's the important part-give Art more time to unredeem himself so he can earn his way back to hell. If Art has an actual plan, he's not sharing the details with Hector, who finds himself on a speedy cross-country road trip to ... somewhere. Along the way, he encounters a cat with dubious motives, a homicidal woman with lousy aim, and a nice old lady with a killer recipe for chili. "What could be better than saving the world?" the demon coos. "You'll be a hero." Hector's not so sure he wants to save the world. Well, humanity, anyway. Maybe it's time for a new dominant species. Walruses, perhaps. Or cats.
Midsummer Dreams
Midsummer Dreams is a lyrical history of the lives, loves and, in particular, the dreams of several of the inhabitants of the small village of Treddoch Harbour. Treddoch, as it's referred to locally, is a fictional, atypical, once fishing, now touristy, community situated on Cornwall's southern coast.Everybody has their dreams, though none more so than the inhabitants of Treddoch. In their case, and this is where they differ from the mainstream, as well as having their own, personal dreams, the residents of Treddoch Harbour also have the one dream, the overarching dream, that singular dream that binds them as a community. This is the dream of having a 'good Season'. For many of them, who rely on the tourists for their income, their money's only to be made in the summer, when the tourists are abroad. Winter months can be dire. The action is set on the one day, Midsummer's Day, starting at dawn and ending with dusk. The story's told through the voice of a tour guide as he takes the reader around the village, introducing the characters one by one, starting with the late Butcher and his Wife, now interred in the local cemetery!
When We Let Go
The only way to get what she wants is to let go of everything she thinks she knows. I never planned to live my life in a trailer in a tiny mountain town. Funny how divorce changes your plans for you. And I never planned to fall in love again. After Jack, I figured I was better off alone. But Connor Charles, with his dark red hair and glowering good looks, was as compelling as he was frightening, and I knew I should stay away from him. Especially if the rumors were true. The police were interested in Connor ... but the more I got to know him, the more I realized ... So was I.
River Magic
I thought I'd escaped my troubles when I fled Hollywood to hike the Appalachian Trail. But trouble keeps finding me...There I was - Raney Meadows, a sort-of-famous actress on a really long hike - when a river goddess left a kayaker's body right where I'd stumble over it.Well, not stumble, exactly. The guy was in the water. But then I'm half-undine - a Water Elemental - so I could have stumbled over him. I mean, it's possible.Anyway, then the dead guy's brother shows up and tells me he wasn't a kayaker. And because I play a homicide investigator on TV, he asks me to find the killer.Which, okay. But I think the brother might be an Elemental, too. And since then we've met two people who could also be Elementals. So what's with the Elementals convention? Why here in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia? And why has the dead guy's cat picked me, of all people, to bond with?

The Great Plague of London instilled terror in the residents of London; a mysterious unseen enemy striking down a hundred thousand, no less than one in five citizens. Defoe goes to great pains to achieve an effect of verisimilitude, identifying specific neighbourhoods, streets, and even houses in which events took place. He provides tables of casualty figures and discusses the credibility of various accounts and anecdotes received by the narrator. In fact, A Journal of the Plague Year is often compared to the actual, contemporary accounts in the diary of Samuel Pepys. Defoe's account is far more systematic and detailed than Pepys's first-person account. All in all, A Journal of the Plague Year is a gripping realistic narrative.

Second Chance Spring
Sometimes love makes plans for you while you're busy making plans of your own... Finding myself over thirty and divorced, living in the same small town where I grew up, was not exactly the fast track to personal success. So I took action.I landed a job with a bigger practice in a big city where I'd find more opportunities at work, and hopefully in my social life. I was ready to move on.But when Cormac Whitewood and his adorable daughters came into my life, suddenly my big plans didn't seem so shiny and exciting. Suddenly, I was finding myself drawn to the lonely widower, wishing for more time with him.The thing is, Cormac made it clear he wasn't over his late wife--and I'd never force my way into someone else's family. Besides, I'd already made my plans. So why do they feel so wrong?Second Chance Spring is a full-length novel with an HEA about second chances, spring, and taxidermy. Okay, not really. It's about the plans life makes for us while we're busy making plans for ourselves, and it's full of snort laughs, touching moments, cake, and maybe a kangaroo or two.

Lady Susan
Lady SusanJane Austen1871 Lady Susan is a short epistolary novel by Jane Austen, possibly written in 1794 but not published until 1871. This early complete work, which the author never submitted for publication, describes the schemes of the title character.Lady Susan Vernon, a beautiful and charming recent widow, visits her brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Catherine Vernon, with little advance notice at Churchill, their country residence. Catherine is far from pleased, as Lady Susan had tried to prevent her marriage to Charles and her unwanted guest has been described to her as "the most accomplished coquette in England".
The Hot Monkey Love Trial
Bert Gropes is a reclusive 26 year-old who lives at home with his mother in the farmlands of Woodland, California. He has no money, and he's about to get fired, again, from the job he loves: teaching social studies to middle schoolers. He knows about those problems. What Bert and his mother, Eugenia Gropes, don't know until it's too late is that before he was even born, someone genetically altered him in vitro, along with the course of his natural life. A single gene from a Libidoan monkey--an oversexed great ape native to the Caribbean's Isle Libido--was inserted into Bert when but a wee little bit of biomaterial. As destiny and history play out, Bert finds trouble of biblical proportions. He's accused of terrible crimes in Tennessee for his role in the death of a thrill seeker who downloads an app developed for sexless farm roosters but that's been repurposed by the real culprit, Dick Slayde of Internet giant Primal Urge, for human use as the ultimate electronic tonic: Hot Monkey Love. Making matters worse, Tennessee's favorite son, Senator Ray Hoffenworth, comes home to Dayton to be the prosecuting attorney and make an example of Bert. The defense, offered by Bert's celebrity animal rights activist lawyer, Clarene Eliza Dare, captures the world's attention: Can a defendant with a single nonhuman gene be tried for murder as a person, as that term is understood by our laws, any more than a dog or a cat? When the legal titans clash in court over the consequence of Bert's mixed-up genetic sequence, it's the Scopes Monkey Trial all over again. Except one thing: The story's DNA has been mutated--comically and dramatically recombined with strands harvested from today's news--and twisted into a tale that only the coming age of biotech could dish up.

The Road to Nowhere leads Everywhere
Foregoing her usual opening in an attempt to control the middle of the board with her pawn, it was the Queen's Knight with which she made her first move. I glanced up from the Board to see a smug smile upon her face, as if she were expecting some confusion upon my part due to her change of tactics. Nodding my head slightly, I did not comment upon the unusual move on her part. Moving my gaze back to the board, I casually asked, "My Lady, do you know why the only piece which can open the game besides a pawn is the Knight?" Caught by surprise at my question, though she maintained her air of superiority, she eventually replied, "I believe it is due to being capable of jumping the pawn, Mr. Ainsley." Placing my hand upon the piece she assumed I would use for my opening move, I turned my attention away from the board to once again gaze upon her face. While changing to another piece entirely to make my play, I answered matter-of-factly, "Actually, that move is allowed by the rules, My Lady. I should have thought you would have been aware of what those were -- my mistake." Ever wonder what a smug expression looks like when it virtually melts off someone's face? Play chess with me sometime and find out.About the AuthorStephen B. Shirley
"Shirley" is Charlotte Bronte's second novel and is set against the backdrop of the Luddite uprising against the Yorkshire textile industry in England during the industrial depression that followed the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812. First published in 1849, the novel is the story of mill operator Robert Moore, whose business is troubled by the economic climate; his distant cousin Caroline Helstone, for whom Robert has affections; rich heiress and landowner Shirley Keeldar; and Robert's brother Louis, a poor tutor, whom Shirley has fallen in love with. "Shirley" is a classically romantic tale that deals with the timely themes of industrial unrest in Britain at the beginning of the 19th century and the role of women both at home and in business. The shy and timid Caroline and the independent and headstrong Shirley are both deeply affected by the decisions of the men in their lives and by changing social roles and expectations for women. They both must grapple with whether they are free to marry for love or if money will control yet another aspect of their lives. Bronte's popular novel is both an insightful social commentary and a mature and touching portrait of women trying to follow their romantic desires in an increasingly complicated world. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

Hilariously ironic and irreverent, in Dirty Birds, Morgan Murray generates a quest novel for the twenty-first century--a coming-of-age, rom-com, crime-farce thriller--where a hero's greatest foe is his own crippling mediocrity as he seeks purpose in art, money, power, crime, and sleeping in all day.
The Columnist
In Brandon Sladder, author Jeffrey Frank has created one of the most memorable rogues in contemporary fiction. A prominent Washington columnist, Sladder has known just about everyone of importance. He has spoken on intimate terms with world leaders, been a witness to enormous change, and expressed weighty opinions on important matters of state. When former President Bush encourages him to write his memoirs, Sladder believes that his life story could add much more than a footnote to our age and attempts to burnish his image for posterity. What emerges instead is the story of an irresistibly loathsome man and the misadventures that got him to the top. Self-important, social climbing, and dangerously oblivious, Brandon Sladder is the type of character everyone loves to hate. By turns hilarious and dismaying, The Columnist is a dead-on, elegantly written portrait of the media and politics of the second half of the twentieth century.
The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - "Stranger Things meets the South. Chilling, hilarious, and suspenseful--I loved it!"--Felicia Day From the authors of Rhett & Link's Book of Mythicality and creators of Good Mythical Morning . . . It's 1992 in Bleak Creek, North Carolina--a sleepy little place with all the trappings of an ordinary Southern town: two Baptist churches, friendly smiles coupled with silent judgments, and an unquenchable appetite for pork products. Beneath the town's cheerful fa癟ade, however, Bleak Creek teens live in constant fear of being sent to the Whitewood School, a local reformatory with a history of putting unruly youths back on the straight and narrow--a record so impeccable that almost everyone is willing to ignore the suspicious deaths that have occurred there over the past decade. At first, high school freshmen Rex McClendon and Leif Nelson believe what they've been told: that the students' strange demises were all just tragic accidents, the unfortunate consequence of succumbing to vices like Marlboro Lights and Nirvana. But when the shoot for their low-budget horror masterpiece, PolterDog, goes horribly awry--and their best friend, Alicia Boykins, is sent to Whitewood as punishment--Rex and Leif are forced to question everything they know about their unassuming hometown and its cherished school for delinquents. Eager to rescue their friend, Rex and Leif pair up with recent NYU film school graduate Janine Blitstein to begin piecing together the unsettling truth of the school and its mysterious founder, Wayne Whitewood. What they find will leave them battling an evil beyond their wildest imaginations--one that will shake Bleak Creek to its core. Praise for The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek "The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek is like your best friend from high school--kind of weird and a little twisted, but no matter how much trouble they caused, they always made you laugh. You don't have to be a GMM fan to realize . . . The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek, Will It Awesome Book? F@*# yeah!"--Kurt Sutter, creator of Sons of Anarchy "Most people don't read books, let alone write them. That puts Rhett and Link in the top 1% of smart people in the world. Read this book."--Rachel Bloom, co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend "It's scary, it's fun, and it's one hell of a carnival ride."--Kirkus Reviews
