When Legends Run Free
WHEN LEGENDS RUN FREE features a team of high-achieving cross country runners who strive for success under the guidance of Coach John Mosley, whose fundamental idea is "Good is the greatest enemy of excellence." The squad includes a guy who loves to quote Shakespeare and a couple of dependable never-let-you-down types. There is an ROTC guy with a feisty gymnastics girlfriend and a teammate who doesn't use his real name. Things get serious when the school's administration moves from NCAA Division II to Division I. At this point, the story plays out against the backdrop of an administration that intends to drop the cross country and track as well as the women's gymnastics team in order to use the money for those programs to upgrade a mediocre football program. The book explores the lives of college athletes as they strive to excel and attempt to deal with the decisions made by the university's administration.

Pro Baseball Comes to the Maine Coast
PRO BASEBALL COMES TO THE MAINE COAST is a fictional baseball story about a newly-formed low minor league baseball team that played in a beautiful region of Maine known as Penobscot Bay. The team joined a little-known league made up of independent professional teams that did not have an affiliation with a major league team. A local businessman and a successful small college baseball coach joined together to make something that seemed to be impossible become a reality. A team made up of undrafted small college players played their first season with determination. They were a bunch of team-oriented overachievers. This "feel good" story of the first season is an example of how a sports team can be the bond that can bring an area of small towns together.

Jarrod Black Guilty Party is the third in the series of Jarrod Black novels. The first two, Introducing Jarrod Black and Jarrod Black Hospital Pass, were published in 2019 and are available from Fair Play Publishing.

Craig Cantwell is well known as a journeyman millionaire and 'the best professional golfer who has not won a major.' His successful life as a tour pro is shattered when he is suspended from the PGA Tour. Without a place to compete and with a personal life tangled with drama, Craig has to find his way back to a life he knows. His fight is not with the scions of the tour, the public, or the scores of great golfers who would be his opponents. He has to prevail over the toughest of adversaries - himself. "18" beautifully tells the story of Cantwell and those in his life: Rachelle Keys, the mother of Craig's daughter and a heroic FBI Agent. Kelly Keys, the new 'IT' girl of golf. Thomas Kincaid, agent and lawyer to the rich and scandalous. And Seth Reede, the personal development guru with a past more shocking than any fallen hero. Far more involved than just a tale of athletic triumph, "18" is a story of forgiveness, truth, courage, and redemption.
Mia
As the beloved, hard-working general manager of a Major League Baseball team in California, "Baseball Wizard" Joe Ciotola has given his life to the sport but lost too much in the bargain. Single, childless, disillusioned about baseball, and swamped with regrets after missing the deaths of both of his parents, the 50-year-old Bronx native quits his job and goes looking for something -- anything -- more satisfying than a life spent juggling rosters, recruiting players, and balancing budgets. On his way to Anywhere, U.S.A., he stops in a strange place called Salvation, a forgotten desert town where time seems to stand still and where Old Testament values divide the locals between the Saved and the Damned. There, Joe meets Mia, a pitiful creature whose future has been written by the town's leaders, and who can't stay without making the ultimate sacrifice. The choices Joe and Mia make together, and the bonds they create with another woman who emerges from Joe's past, shape their lives forever, revealing the power of connections formed from the ashes of great loss. A baseball book wrapped in a domestic drama, Mia teaches us as much about love and family as it does about the imperfect history of America's beautiful game.

Columbus Slaughters Braves
Mark Friedman's debut novel is an unflinchingly honest portrait of the relationship between siblings, the heartbreaking tale of two brothers whose lives lead to vastly different fates. The narrator, Joe Columbus, tells the story of his brother CJ's remarkable success as a professional baseball player in an effort to explain not only CJ's apparently charmed life but also his own failures - his envy, his crumbling marriage, his missteps and cowardice. A richly imagined story that explores both the grand and enduring allure of our national pasttime and the complications of our lives - our longings, losses, and regrets - COLUMBUS SLAUGHTERS BRAVES is a dark and comic and ultimately redemptive novel. Like W. P. Kinsella's SHOELESS JOE Joe and Michael Shaara's FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME, this is a poignant and compassionate work that introduces readers to a gifted and extraordinarily perceptive writer.
Big Man
In 1951, sport and greed combined to rock college basketball with scandal and shatter the lives of those involved. Big Mantells the fictional story of one player sent tumbling in the shakedown. For Mack Davis, a black All-American basketball star, the point-fixing scandals represent the end of a dream. Fallen from the big time, Mack must return to the lost schoolyards of his childhood Brooklyn neighborhood, where he is now stopped cold by the sport that once saved him. Gradually, however, Mack's real love for the game, combined with a series of unexpected pressures, goads him into an ironic comeback -- playing on an all-black team for a B'nai B'rith championship in a local Brooklyn synagogue with a cast of unlikely heroes and friends. A tight, jabbing novel that moves with the speed and hard grace of basketball itself, BIG MAN puts Jay Neugeboren among "the surprisingly tiny company of fiction writers who have captured the essence of the athlete as a human being" (Kansas City Star).
The Iron Man
This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in 1930 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'The Iron Man' is one of Howard's short stories about the sport of boxing. Robert Ervin Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. During his youth, his family moved between a variety of Texan boomtowns, and Howard - a bookish and somewhat introverted child - was steeped in the violent myths and legends of the Old South. At fifteen Howard began to read the pulp magazines of the day, and to write more seriously. The December 1922 issue of his high school newspaper featured two of his stories, 'Golden Hope Christmas' and 'West is West'. In 1924 he sold his first piece - a short caveman tale titled 'Spear and Fang' - for $16 to the not-yet-famous Weird Tales magazine. Howard's most famous character, Conan the Cimmerian, was a barbarian-turned-King during the Hyborian Age, a mythical period of some 12,000 years ago. Conan featured in seventeen Weird Tales stories between 1933 and 1936 which is why Howard is now regarded as having spawned the 'sword and sorcery' genre. The Conan stories have since been adapted many times, most famously in the series of films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Dark Shanghai
This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in 1932 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Dark Shanghai' is a story in the Sailor Steve Costigan series about a travelling boxer.
