American Rambler
New York Times bestselling author Isaac Fitzgerald sets off to the heart of America, following the path of the legendary Johnny Appleseed on an epic journey that both takes him far from home and brings him closer to it. "It's a difficult thing, to separate legend from story from memory from fact." As a child, Isaac Fitzgerald was always captivated by Johnny Appleseed, drawn by family ties to the legend, his father's larger-than-life stories, and a shared restlessness to leave home and discover what lies beyond. In American Rambler, he sets out, walking from Massachusetts to Indiana on a year-long journey to follow Appleseed's path, turning a childhood fascination into a profound reckoning of loss and grief, ritual and faith, grimy gas-station bathrooms and scenic apple picking. A moving blend of memoir, history, and travelogue, American Rambler is at once an ode to the American heartland and an antidote to the breakneck pace of modern life.

Fair Play
"An electrifying debut...Through in-depth and compassionate reporting, Barnes breaks down the misunderstood science surrounding sex and gender that has been used to keep cisgender women out of sports and has fueled debate over trans athletes participation in women's sports."--Shannon Carlin, TIMEmagazine, "100 Must-Read Books of 2023" For decades women have been playing competitive sports, thanks in large part to the protective cover of Title IX. Since the passage of that law, the number of women participating in sports and the level of competition in high school and college and professionally, has risen dramatically. In Fair Play, award-winning journalist Katie Barnes traces the evolution of women's sports as a pastime and a political arena where equality and fairness have been fought over for generations. As attitudes toward gender have shifted to embrace more fluidity in recent decades, sex continues to be viewed as a static binary that is easily determined: male or female. It is on the very idea of static sex that we have built an entire sporting apparatus. Now that foundation is being hotly debated as a result of intense culture wars. Many transgender and intersex athletes, including a South African runner, a wrestler in Texas, a Connecticut track star, and a swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania, have captured the attention of law and policymakers who want to decide how and when they compete. Women's sports, since their inception, have been seen as a separate class of competition that requires protection and rules for entry. But what are those rules and who gets to make them? Fair Play looks at all sides of the issue and presents a reasoned and much-needed solution that seeks to preserve opportunities for all going forward.

The 1980 Moscow Olympics
Although the United States boycotted the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, the Games went on. NBC held the rights to air the Olympics, but the stateside coverage was reduced to mere minutes each day. The Moscow Olympics essentially occurred without anyone in the United States knowing or caring. As a result, the participating countries saw their accomplishments, records, and scores--their entire experience at the Games--forgotten. This history attempts to address this situation, presenting a closer look at the competitions, events, and athletes of the Games, recording each medalist's results. It also tells many untold stories of the Games, including a food fight in the Olympic Village, a pirated TV signal in Florida, the arrest of the rainbow-wigged John 3:16 activist, and the two Jimmy Carters. This book demonstrates that the 1980 Summer Games, despite the U.S. boycott, were truly unforgettable.
Physical Fitness and the Expeditionary Air Force
The Air Force has been constantly evolving. With the many changes and the Expeditionary Air Force structure put in place, it is more important now than ever that the Air Force has a physical fitness program to keep its members healthy and productive. By doing this, it can ensure that the efforts put forth in completing the Air Force mission are successful while keeping the organization at the highest level of readiness possible. This thesis looks at what the Air Force values in having a fitness program. These values are taken from documentation that is the backbone of the Air Force mission. Using these values, fitness programs can be evaluated to determine what kind of program would be best for the Air Force by including as many of the valued characteristics as possible. The results of this study show that programs similar to the Army's fitness program would be best and include most of the desired characteristics. This should be an important consideration when determining what type of fitness program the Air Force needs. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Thank Me Later
Winston Churchill once said "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." Are there truer words spoken about the reality of fantasy life? Win or lose, our appetites for torturing ourselves is never ending. We long for it. We crave the pendulum of emotions that it initiates. And we always, always come back for more. This book will make you laugh nervously at the fact that somebody - maybe everybody - is able to provide analytics to your brain, your personality, your strategy and your mistakes. Forget being compared to a Vegas hotel or an 80's tv show like other mock write-ups. This is that lecture, that leather sofa analysis, that brain drilling type of story that is going to make you NOT need fantasy sports counseling anymore. And why not?

Mastering Tai Chi Form 24
Four routines in one book! Mastering Tai Chi Form 24 and Applications, exploring each posture in depth with clarity and purpose, and then use it as a structural template for applying weapon techniques. By preserving the structure and posture names of the original Form 24, this book enables students to deepen their internal practice without the distraction of learning new choreography of a weapon form. Instead, the familiar routine becomes a versatile foundation for integrating weapons such as the double-clubbell, cane, and long staff, each adding its own distinct "flavor" to the form. The book opens with detailed, illustrated instruction on the bare-hand routine, uniquely emphasizing Tai Chi's core philosophy of Yin-Yang harmony and offering layered insights into your practice from three interconnected perspectives: 1) wellness to cultivate internal energy, stimulate meridians, support organ health, and release stagnation for self-healing; 2) fitness to develop your body's spring-like qualities, such as elasticity, compressibility, twistability, and structural integrity; 3) martial application to understand how each posture expresses practical techniques like redirecting force, uprooting, joint control, or striking. This holistic framework honors the depth of Tai Chi while making it accessible and meaningful to practitioners of all backgrounds.Tai Chi weapon routines often differ significantly from their bare-hand origins. This book offers a fresh, integrated approach, grafting weapon training onto the familiar structure of Form 24, much like grafting different fruits onto the same tree. The result is a richer, more connected practice that enhances both understanding and self-cultivation.Whether your focus is health, martial arts, or teaching, this book will support your journey toward the true embodiment of Tai Chi Form 24. This book includes four complete illustrated routines: Simplified Tai Chi Form 24; Tai Chi Double Clubbell/Bang in Form 24; Tai Chi Cane in Form 24; Tai Chi Long Staff in Form 24. This is the newest book by Jesse Tsao, PhD, the primary author of the highly regarded Practical Tai Chi Training: A 9-Stage Method for Mastery.

Unfortunately, after 61 operational months, it appears that the program remains short of accomplishing its primary goal of motivating all members to participate in a year-round physical conditioning program that emphasizes total fitness, to include proper aerobic conditioning, strength/flexibility training, and healthy eating. This PSP will evaluate the evolution of Air Force fitness and some options for reaching full program effectiveness. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Does the Intramural Sports Program at the United States Air Force Academy Build Character?
The use of sports to develop young men and women both physically and mentally has been a tradition in the United States for over one hundred years. It is seen as an excellent tool for developing self-confidence, building social skills, and developing character in its participants.1 But to a large extent, verifying these expectations, specifically the assumption that sports build character has been overlooked. If asked, a majority of people would most likely say that it is a fact-"sports build character."2 But is participation in sports really an effective mechanism for character development? Lately many researchers, to include Jennifer Beller, Sharon Stoll, Patricia Giebink, and Thomas McKenzie among others, have conducted a number of studies to determine if participation in sports, and specifically team sports, actually does develop character-and they see it differently. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. CrossFit Study, May 2010
The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy of the CrossFit fitness program and methodology to increase the physical fitness of U.S. Army Soldiers. Over the past several years, the CrossFit fitness program has gained popularity among U.S. Army Soldiers and leaders. In unit's across the U.S. Army, CrossFit is replacing or augmenting traditional physical training methods. CrossFit's growing popularity in the U.S. Army begs the question, is CrossFit an effective program and does it match the U.S. Army's physical training requirements? Currently there exists a host of anecdotal evidence claiming that the CrossFit program is effective. However, to date, only one formal study within the U.S. Army has attempted to add empirical evidence to these claims. Our study seeks to contribute to the discussion by adding further analytical research on the CrossFit program in hopes of helping U.S. Army leaders make well-informed decisions regarding the future of U.S. Army physical fitness training. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
