The Cuckmere Pilgrim Path
The book describes the route of the Cuckmere Pilgrim Path, a 14 mile round walk through the Sussex countryside. The path links seven churches and the Long Man, a chalk hill figure. As each church is reached, the narrative of the walk breaks off and there is a section about the detailed history of the building and its setting. The Dawn of Pro Stock
Pro Stock is a unique class of racing, and one that has changed considerably over the years. In its early years, Pro Stock was similar to the Super Stock era from a decade before, in that it featured cars that seemed to be a lot like a hot rod version of what people were driving on the street. While the engines were a little bigger and nastier than most street versions, they were not that far removed, and fans could really relate to cars like 'Cudas, Mustangs, Camaros, Mavericks, and Vegas going at it on Sunday afternoon. These mostly stock-bodied cars were, after all, what most fans wanted their own street version to be. Over the years, as always seems to happen in racing, the original vision morphs into something completely different, and in the case of Pro Stock, that meant tube frames and flip-up fiberglass bodies that resemble nothing seen on the street. And in that, there becomes a little bit of a disconnect with the fans, whose interest in Pro Stock originated in the relative stock appearance of the cars. For this reason The Dawn of Pro Stock by Steve Reyes is a celebration of the early years, when fans could really connect with the cars, and brand rivalries were intense. Legendary drag racing photographer Reyes was trackside at the biggest and best NHRA events from the mid 1960s throughout the 1990s. Kendan - Conversations on Kendo and Life with Yamanouchi Tomio-sensei
"Kendan" describes the lessons in kendo and life that were imparted to Kendo Kyoshi 8-dan Ozawa Hiroshi by his mentor, Kendo Hanshi 8-dan Yamanouchi Tomio. Ozawa-sensei studied kendo under Yamanouchi-sensei while a student at Nippon Sports Science University, and also at the internationally famous Kodansha Noma Dojo. Then, in 1979 when Ozawa-sensei's father became ill and could no longer teach him kendo, his father told him to study kendo under Yamanouchi-sensei. From that moment Ozawa-sensei practised kendo under the watchful guidance of Yamanouchi-sensei until he stopped practising at 85 years old. Ozawa-sensei remained his student until Yamanouchi-sensei passed away in 2005 at the age of 92. Kendan contains Ozawa-sensei's conversations with Yamanouchi-sensei over 13 years from 1980 to 1993. These conversations were largely had after training at Noma Dojo in the car on the way to the train station, and consisted of advice on different aspects of kendo. In addition to the technical side of kendo, many of the conversations were philosophical in nature and were about life as much as kendo. At times Yamanouchi-sensei would hand Ozawa-sensei long reports written on paper about different topics on kendo. Ozawa-sensei then collated this information and published Kendan on July 30, 1993, to celebrate Yamanouchi-sensei's 80th birthday. Now expertly translated by Matsuda Kazuyo in the UK, the knowledge and lessons on kendo and life found in Kendan are available in English.

Hinsdale County lie high in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Rugged and remote, over 96% of the county consists of public lands, much of it designated as Wilderness. Federico Grisone published Gli ordini di cavalcare (The Rules of Riding) in 1550, the first manual on man癡ge riding, the ancestor of modern dressage. The Ordini codified a half-century of oral tradition of teaching this art and was a best seller and a welcome aid in educating noblemen at European courts in the art of the man癡ge. Elizabeth Tobey and Federica Brunori Deigan have prepared the first modern edited English translation of the Ordini, which should interest Renaissance scholars and equestrians, and includes an introductory essay, a glossary of equestrian terms, and the transcription of the 1550 Italian first edition.Grisone's treatise and the riding masters trained at his riding academy in Naples, Italy, spread the practice of the art of man癡ge riding to courts throughout Europe. Twenty-three Italian editions of the text were published between 1550 and 1620 and the treatise was translated into French, English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Many of the concepts Grisone discusses in his treatise--such as developing contact between horse and rider and collection in the horse--are still major tenets of modern dressage riding. The haute 矇cole or High School movements of classical dressage are still practiced today by such traditional academies such as the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria and the Cadre Noir in Saumur, France.

Hiking Meteora Monasteries
The region of the world-famous meteoric monasteries is hiked on ten routes. Each tour takes about 3 to 4 hours and is attractive at any time of the year. Climbing skills are not required, just good shoes and a little sense of direction. The hikes lead to all six active monasteries, which can be visited, as well as to all other sights such as rock monasteries, monk's prison, dragon's cave or spindle, an extraordinary rock. One tour leads to the neighboring villages beyond the Pinio with a bridge from the Ottoman period and a ruined castro, another to the neighboring valley with a bizarre rock formation and magnificent views. The villages of Kalabaka and Kastraki will also be explored extensively. Geological and historical data as well as overview maps for all tours complete the hiking guide.
