This is the story of what is widely regarded as "The Greatest Game Ever Played," Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals. In 1996, Classic Sports Network (now ESPN Classic) polled NBA writers, and they voted the contest as the greatest single game in the then 50-year history of the league. Played exactly one month before the nation's bicentennial celebration, the game began just after 9 p.m. on Friday night, June 4, but due to its length, spilled over into Saturday, June 5. It was played in the historic Boston Garden before a crowd of 15,320. The Celtics won 128-126 in triple overtime. There were so many twists and turns during the game. The Celtics had greats like John Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Jo White, and ex-Sun Charlie Scott. The Suns were led by Gar Heard, Paul Westphal, and Rookie of the Year Alvan Adams. In this book, we have compiled training units and individual drills that the players can do during the outdoor pre-season preparatory period when the gyms are closed. The first three training units provide guidance on individual training that the players can do at home, in the garden or in the street. By giving information on the respective drill's intensity, the included athletics elements can easily be adapted to each level of performance. The fourth training unit can be done in groups of at least four players and includes endurance, athletics and coordination exercises. It has been portrayed as in some ways an English sport, a "softies" sport, and a sport that has a very limited interest among the general population of Scotland. Sixty-one games (it was going to be just 60, but one turned up at the last minute!) have been chosen from the past 250 years to show that cricket does indeed influence a substantial part of the nation. The matches have been selected at all levels, from Scotland against visiting Australian teams all the way down to a Fife school fixture. These naturally reflect the life, experience and geographical whereabouts of the author. The games are quirky sometimes, (and quirkily chosen) with an emphasis on important events in the broader history of this country, notably the imminence of wars and resumptions at the end of these conflicts.
