Christmas Nativity Vienna
Collector's Bible on Christmas Nativities.Saint Francis of Assisi is often credited with being the first to create a live nativity scene, in 1223. He did it to promote the worship of Christ. He had come back from The Holy Land, where he had been shown the traditional birthplace of Jesus. The scene was so popular that it inspired communities throughout Catholic countries to stage similar pantomimes. The series discovers Christmas Nativities in several European countries and the United States. As the Christmas tree is an old Christian German tradition, we include some of this material here. The Christmas tree tradition started in Germany in the 16th century as an accessory to the live church Nativity plays, see the series about Christmas Nativity. They were originally "Paradise Trees", decorated with apples, nuts, berries and candles. Devout Christians over time integrated these "Paradise Trees" in their homes as their own religious and cultural celebration. The Christmas tree tradition has taken on a life of its own, independent of the Christmas Nativity.

Christmas Market Trier
The Trier Christmas Market is one of the loveliest in Germany. It is set in a wonderful Roman and early Medieval setting. There are 95 attractively decorated chalets in the main market square. There is a program for all the family, which is changing every day, with songsmiths, start tenors and puppet theater. And Santa, of course! In the 90 festively decorated wooden booths you will find Christmas articles such as Christmas decorations, wooden toys, candles, hand-blown or engraved glassware, gift articles, ceramics and much more. Good food awaits you as well: bratwurst sausages, potato pancakes, sweets, hot tea and mulled wine. Trier was established as a city by the Celts 400 BC and the Roman conquered it in 16 BC and established a fortified rectangular city still visible today. The city later became the capital of the province of Belgic Gaul; after the Diocletian Reforms, it became the capital of the prefecture of the Gauls, overseeing much of the Western Roman Empire.
Christmas Nativity United States
One of the wonderful traditions of Christmas is the Nativity. But you don't have to be Christian or a regular church-goer to love these wonderful displays. The creativity and artistry speaks to all children and to the child in us all.Nativity is a scene from the stories of the birth of Jesus. They are in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. With inspiration in these stories you use either figurines or live people to create the scene and convey the story. These scenes excite especially the children. Their happy smiles and their joy is so wonderfully rewarding. But adults as well enjoy both creating and looking at the nativity scenes. This has developed into a huge handicraft industry in countries like Spain and Italy. Artists and craftsmen work all year round to create their next exhibits, which are sold especially at Christmas markets.Families collect figurines and accessories from the markets and create their own displays at home. Churches, beginning with the Vatican, and cities and other institutions create their own annual exhibits that are venerated and celebrated. This little book series shows you some of the nativity scenes we have seen and some of the figurines and accessories that you can find in the various Christmas markets, as well as where you can not find nativity scenes and figurines.Nativity is today a Catholic tradition, separated in many countries from official society as Christianity does no longer have the same central function, although the European values and norms are deeply steeped in Christianity. In Northern European countries the birth of Jesus is no longer the central theme of the Christmas displays. We show you some alternative displays, usually with animals, that are used instead to make the children, and adults, happy. Mostly they are in shopping windows and displace for a while the display of some of the commercial goods that is the daily function of the windows.

Gold Coins of the World
The tenth edition of Gold Coins of the World, the world's standard reference on gold coins from ancient times to the present, expands on its predecessor, digging more deeply into new areas of collector interest, expanding many sections, and adding new discoveries for dozens of countries. Completely revised and updated. Market valuations are extensively revised to reflect both the higher price of gold as well as the skyrocketing demand for numismatic rarities.Inside you'll find: More than 22,000 coin types, hundreds of new listings Valuations in up to three states of preservation 8,500+ color photos in actual size Universally-used Friedberg Numbering System, the world's standard method of cataloging, describing, buying and selling gold coins Each country's section includes tables of weight and fineness Useful directory of the world's leading gold-coin dealers and auction houses Many of the prices, especially for great rarities and coins in higher grades, have at least doubled. In fact, as collectors recognize the scarcity of coins in the highest states of preservation, the premium for such coins relative to lower-graded ones is escalating beyond traditional proportions. The coinage of India and the Islamic world, long dismissed by western collectors as difficult to decipher, unimportant, and lacking in value, is now the subject of intense interest, and has shown some of the most dramatic increases of all. This edition and each one before are derived from the original, groundbreaking 1958 work by Robert Friedberg, whose cataloging and numbering system revolutionized the way gold coins are collected. It changed the face of world-gold collecting at that time, and it remains unparalleled in its scope and universal usage today, six decades later. Three years in the making, the newest edition calls on the expertise of a numismatic who's-who of more than one hundred expert contributors and consultants from across the globe. The popularity of gold coins, however, is due to a whole host of factors. It is not an overstatement to say that the history of gold coinage parallels, and has helped define, the trajectory of civilization. For the numismatist, banker, economist, historian, or institution of higher learning, the tenth edition of Gold Coins of the World is a book for every library, public and private.

Bvrb's Commodes
This new volume in the Frick Diptych series features an essay by Frick curator Marie-Laure Buku Pongo paired with a contribution by world-renowned conductor and keyboardist William Christie. These two cabinets, stamped BVRB, may well be the last pieces of furniture made by the celebrated Parisian cabinetmaker Bernard van Risenburgh II just before he retired in 1764 and sold his workshop to his son, Bernard van Risenburgh III, who finished them. The cabinets feature panels of black-and-gold Japanese lacquer of exceptionally high quality taken from a seventeenth-century Japanese cabinet, chest, or screen. Beginning in the 1730s, the older van Risenburgh worked almost exclusively with the influential marchands-merciers or merchants of luxury goods, who provided the cabinetmaker with the rare and costly Oriental lacquers and sometimes with the design for the furniture on which to mount them.

Glossy
'Dame Anna Wintour might be one of the best-known and most successful journalists on the planet. But it wasn't always like that. When she started out on Vogue she was often so miserable she had to phone her husband for help. This is just one of countless fascinating titbits in this zippy story of dizzying fortune, out-of this-world fashion, ingenuity, passion, sex and power. And, this being fashion, some intense bitchiness too. Started as a gossip magazine for snobbish New Yorkers in 1892, Vogue is now one of the most recognisable brands in the world. Spanning London, New York and Paris, this is a high-speed, fun read full of fascinating though not always likeable people.' Daily MailGlossy is a story of more than a magazine. It is a story of passion and power, dizzying fortune and out-of-this-world fashion, of ingenuity and opportunism, frivolity and malice. This is the definitive story of Vogue.Vogue magazine started, like so many great things do, in the spare room of someone's house. But unlike other such makeshift projects that flare up then fizzle away, Vogue burnt itself onto our cultural consciousness. Today, 128 years later, Vogue spans 22 countries, has an international print readership upwards of 12 million and nets over 67 million monthly online users. Uncontested market leader for a century, it is one of the most recognisable brands in the world and a multi-million dollar money-making machine. It is not just a fashion magazine, it is the establishment. But what - and more importantly who - made Vogue such an enduring success? Glossy will answer this question and more by tracing the previously untold history of the magazine, from its inception as a New York gossip rag, to the sleek, corporate behemoth we know now. This will be a biography of Vogue in every sense of the word, taking the reader through three centuries, two world wars, plunging failures and blinding successes, as it charts the story of the magazine and those who ran it.

HUMANITY April 2024
The history of the magazine begins in 2020 (although the idea originated in 2019), then it was born in the form of an electronic newspaper DEMO GOG, with the prospect of further printing on paper. Initially, this newspaper was planned as a student media, but during the evolutionary process, after 20 issues, it changed its subject and audience, and in the fall of 2020, the newspaper acquired the appearance of a magazine with a branded cover, which has reached today almost unchanged. The key moment was the merger with the Life Line magazine, which had previously been published by the charity foundation Every Child's Life Line (ECLF). Since then, the main topics of the magazine have become not only creativity and literature, but also charity. The main changes were the change of the subject to literary and creative and the removal of age (everyone, not just students) and territorial (not only Russia, but all countries of the world) restrictions for the participants of the magazine.Today, Humanity magazine is a unique English-language media that is distributed worldwide and is available in any country when purchased from the online store of the Ukiyoto publishing house. Each issue of the magazine takes place with the participation of the Russian, Vietnamese and Serbian Writers' Unions. Also, each issue of the magazine is accompanied by articles from the Life Line Foundation (ECLF) and the Poetry Clinic rubric. The standard volume is 90 pages. The magazine presents all continents in the form of separate headings and thus each issue of the magazine covers the whole world! The magazine constantly continues to develop, works on connecting and publishing new authors, establishes communication and friendly relations between poets from all over the world and strives to increase circulation.

The book contained hundreds of drawings and photographs, most of which were produced by the Levins. Starting in the early 1930's, Louis and Samuel Levin started manufacturing a number of high quality jewelers' tools and the two men were active in research which produced the watch rate recorder. The Los Angeles Times reported that "when Howard Hughes was assembling his navigational instruments for his recent world-girdling flight, he sent Lieut. Thomas Thurlow, one of the navigators, to the Levins for a special sextant." By that, Louis and Samuel Levin had become very well known for their engineering, technical design capability, manufacturing skills and their extremely high quality of workmanship. Their services were sought for the repair and service of rare timepieces as well as entire watch collections. They were also employed to maintain, service and regulate the clocks used to drive the 100 inch telescope atop Mount Wilson in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California.
