Pottery Book for Beginners
Your Go-To Beginner Guide In The Art of Making Pottery Crafts Pottery is a huge theme that revolves around a naturally derived organic matter called clay. It is one craft that has served many purposes, from the formation of earthen vessels to the very ceramic plates, cups and pots used in our homes and so much more. Pottery began right when the early men dominated the world, and since then, several techniques and processes have been introduced into the art, making it much more fun and seamless than before. At first, being a potter might be a walk in the park, but studies reveal that nine out of every ten pottery crafts made ended up collapsing. Sometimes, the structures become too thin and then crumble. Other times, the walls could have absorbed more moisture than necessary, resulting in weak walls. Another prevalent issue is the pottery being unable to serve the function for which it was created. So, it ends up becoming more of an ornate piece. These issues are some of the factors responsible for the complexity of pottery making. That is why this book, Pottery Book for Beginners, was written to provide you with top-level information to ensure your pottery craft comes out just as intended. Etched in Memory - The Elevated Art of J. Alphege Brewer
This book is the first illustrated study of the life and work of J. Alphege Brewer (1881-1946), the early20th-century British artist who made his fame producing large, color etchings of European cathedrals and other historical buildings damaged or threatened during WWI. In both the United States and GreatBritain, these etchings and reproductions were proudly hung on parlor walls in solidarity with theAllied cause and as a remembrance of the devastating cultural losses inflicted by the onslaught of war.Brewer's "? la poup矇e" technique, carried out in his shop in Acton with the assistance of family members, required the plate to be painted entirely anew for each of the authorized 300-500impressions. With the same "dab hand" at the end of his life, Brewer produced exquisite woodcuts of lakes, mountains, and other pastoral views. Chapters on Brewer's life story, techniques, and the artistic context for his war etchings are included, as well as a catalog of his known etchings.Benjamin S. Dunham is a retired music association executive and magazine editor living near CapeCod in Massachusetts, USA. Because of a family connection to James Alphege Brewer, he began collecting his etchings in 2015 and now researches and manages a well-frequented website about the artist (www.jalphegebrewer.info). Mr. Dunham enjoyed an active career in arts administration and journalism, serving in CEO positions with the U.S. National Music Council, the American SymphonyOrchestra, and Chamber Music America and as editor ofSymphony News, American Recorder, andEarly Music America publications.
The Hidden History of American Healthcare
The New York Times-bestselling author explores the history of American healthcare system, what went wrong, and how it can be remedied. Popular progressive radio host and bestselling author Thom Hartmann reveals how and why attempts to implement affordable universal healthcare in the United States have been thwarted and what we can do to finally make it a reality. "For-profit health insurance is the largest con job ever perpetrated on the American people--one that has cost trillions of dollars and millions of lives since the 1940s," says Thom Hartmann. Other countries have shown us that affordable universal healthcare is not only possible but also effective and efficient. Taiwan's single-payer system saved the country a fortune as well as saving lives during the coronavirus pandemic, enabling the country to implement a nationwide coronavirus test-and-contact-trace program without shutting down the economy. This resulted in just ten deaths, while more than 500,000 people have died in the United States. Hartmann offers a deep dive into the shameful history of American healthcare, showing how greed, racism, and oligarchic corruption led to the current "sickness for profit" system. Modern attempts to create versions of government healthcare have been hobbled at every turn, including Obamacare. There is a simple solution: Medicare for all. Hartmann outlines the extraordinary benefits this system would provide the American people and economy and the steps we need to take to make it a reality. It's time for America to join every industrialized country in the world and make health a right, not a privilege.
Equity
A fast and engaging read, Equity helps leaders create more inclusive organizations using human-centered design and behavior change principles. Even the most passionate advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion have been known to treat equity as the middle child--the concept they skip over to get to the warm, fuzzy feelings of inclusion. But Minal Bopaiah shows throughout this book that equity is critical if organizations really want to leverage differences for greater impact. Equity allows leaders to create organizations where employees can contribute their unique strengths and collaborate better with peers. Bopaiah explains how leaders can effectively raise awareness of systemic bias and craft new policies that lead to better outcomes and lasting behavioral changes. This book is rich in real-world examples, such as managing partners at a consulting firm who learn to retell their personal stories of success by crediting their systemic advantages and news managers at NPR who redesign their processes to support greater diversity among news sources. This slender book expands DEI past human resources initiatives and shows how leaders can embed equity into core business functions like marketing and communications. Filled with humor, heart, and pragmatism, Equity is a guidebook for change, answering the question of how that so many leaders are asking today.

Pangablan
"A mother's love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible." - Marion C. Garretty. There is no greater love than a mother's love. It is unconditional and beyond compare. Our mothers are the most consistent person who would motivate us to be the best version of ourselves.I, myself, had experienced that purest kind of love. It was imprinted in my heart and had ignited my desire to really do the things I thought were impossible for me to accomplish. Yes, I never thought of becoming a book author. However, my mother's investment of love in me had resulted in this brainchild, this humble book of our hardships, struggles, memories, and victories. This book is not only memorabilia of a great weaver and a great mother but also a reflection of my beloved municipality's rich and unique cultural heritage- its scents, sights, and splendors! This anthology of feature articles showcases the beauty and grandeur of Paoay, Ilocos Norte while reflecting our desirable values as Ilocanos. From the golden sands of the dunes of Paoay to the majestic architectural design of the Paoay Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, our stories were scribbled to form a versatile tapestry which is the Pangablan: The Living Treasure of Paoay. This book is a labor of love and a gift to the next generations to come.Jenifer Caracar-MacadangdangAuthor

Finding Gauguin
Amateur art collector David A. Hiser, Jr. knew who drew the woman's arm in the carving because he had been collecting art and antiques for over forty years. The outline of the arm was a soft French curve, but yet the arm was muscular. He knew of only one artist who drew like this - Paul Gauguin. But why did the carving look German? Wasn't Gauguin French or Peruvian? The unattributed carving was being sold on a Craigslist website ad in 2017, and David purchased it for $500, without knowing much more than who created it.In Finding Gauguin: Paul Gauguin's Lost Masterpiece, David A. Hiser, Jr. deciphers this complicated Symbolist carving and puts the piece in historical context. The carving was made at the beginning of 1885, in Denmark, at an earlier but significant stage in Gauguin's career, where his ideas about music, literature, and painting were forming. It has many firsts in it, and Gauguin then carried many of these images and ideas forward throughout the rest of his career. Most know Gauguin for his Tahitian works, but his career started well before he ever envisioned Tahiti. This book gives us new insight into the early part of Gauguin's career and answers many questions that have perplexed admirers of his art for years. After years of research, David A. Hiser, Jr. believes this is not only one of Gauguin's most mysterious works, but also one of his most historically important, due to its significance in laying the groundwork for the rest of his career.

Canteens and Horseshoes
In the 83 years following the American Civil War, a powerful organization known as the Grand Army of the Republic dominated the life of the Civil War veterans. Founded in 1866, the organization's membership peaked in the 1890's, with nearly 450,000 veterans. In 1949, the last surviving members disbanded the organization and it became history. The organization was all but forgotten except by Civil War enthusiast, historians and collectors of Grand Army of the Republic memorabilia. During its existence, the Grand Army produced souvenirs in the form of badges, canteens and good luck horseshoes. "Canteens & Horseshoes," is an in depth study of what the veterans left behind. This volume containing approximately 280 colored photos of Veteran's badges, miniature canteens and canteens used to hold the veteran's liquid of choice, "whiskey." Their motto, "We Drank from the Same Canteen" had real meaning to the veteran. Along with canteens, this study contains a large variety of little known, and often overlooked, decorative horseshoes which the Civil War veteran proudly displayed in his home. After nearly 60 years of collecting, researching information at numerous museums and conversing with other avid collectors, I have compiled and cataloged this study on Grand Army canteens and horseshoes. This study will give the novice and advance collector a better understanding of what can be found on the collecting market. The last remaining veterans never realized how fascinating their souvenirs would become to future generations.
Fake It
How many layers of artifice can one artwork contain? How does forgery unsettle our notions of originality and creativity? Looking at both the literary and art worlds, Fake It investigates a set of fictional forgeries and hoaxes alongside their real-life inspirations and parallels. Mark Osteen shows how any forgery or hoax is only as good as its authenticating story--and demonstrates how forgeries foster fresh authorial identities while being deeply intertextual and frequently quite original. From fakes of the late eighteenth century, such as Thomas Chatterton's Rowley poems and the notorious "Shakespearean" documents fabricated by William-Henry Ireland, to hoaxes of the modern period, such as Clifford Irving's fake autobiography of Howard Hughes, the infamous Ern Malley forgeries, and the audacious authorial masquerades of Percival Everett, Osteen lays bare provocative truths about the conflicts between aesthetic and economic value. In doing so he illuminates the process of artistic creation, which emerges as collaborative and imitative rather than individual and inspired, revealing that authorship is, to some degree, always forged.

Cigar Box Lithographs Vol. 3
Collecting 100-year-old lithographs attached to the inside lids of wooden cigar boxes is a gratifying hobby. This Jack Minor cigar box imitates a log house, not the typical venue for cigar makers who made plane wooden boxes for their cigar brands. Since the log house box is labelled Jack Miner, one presumes it was made in Canada because Jack Miner, from southwestern Ontario, was world-renowned as a Canadian conservationist banding thousands of migratory geese during his life. Acquired after Volume III of this four-volume series had gone to the printer, this rare cigar box is now displayed on the back cover of Volume III. Made, 1925, by B. R. Hahn, a member of the Isaak Walton League, Bay City, Michigan, this cigar maker wished to salute this Canadian with a custom-made cigar box. There are some 200 Isaak Walton League (see Volume II, page 81) Chapters across the U.S.A.

The Men of the Khaki Cloth
The US Army Chaplain Corps served with distinction during WWII. Chaplains numbered 8,896 by the end of WWII with 186 perishing in combat, a commissioned officer casualty ratio only led by Infantry platoon leaders and combat aircrew. This study provides the basic information of the WWII chaplain: selection, training, tasks, uniforms, and equipment. It also reviews many individual soldier ecclesiastic items like bibles, rosaries and other gear. These men of the khaki cloth served under very difficult circumstances ministering soldiers during the darkest days of their lives. They served in all theaters of war, from the desert to the jungles, to the cities of Europe. The stories of rabbis, LDS and African American chaplains is also told, which is often overlooked. Jewish chaplains also had the challenging task of the aftermath of the Holocaust, being some of the few remaining rabbis on the European continent. Chaplains served all soldiers in all denominations regardless of their own affiliation. They performed church services, blessing, prayers, provided last rites and led burials. One chaplain even had to create a special weather prayer for General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. Chaplains were highly respected by their fellow soldiers, especially since there are "no atheists in foxholes."

An Illustrated Introduction to the History, Mails, and Stamps of Morocco
In many countries, the history of the mails was a well-ordered one: central governments directed the development of services, stamps, and processes, and built the appropriate facilities. Then there was Morocco. Joel Ruimy offers an entertaining and knowledgeable look at what he calls the "chaotic charms" of the first century of Morocco's mails, and the involvement of four European countries and 21 private mail services in offering mail service before the government of Morocco itself finally got into the act.

Restored Heart & Soul
Hank Johnson is a bitter man. After losing his wife, Anne, to a long illness, he loses his faith. He becomes a creature of routine, spending his days visiting his wife's gravesite and hanging out with the "baker's dozen," a group of guys who gather at the local diner for breakfast and car talk. When Hank receives news from his estranged daughter that he is about to become "Grandpa Hank", his best friend, Joe, talks him into selling his house in Bakersfield and heading back east. "Babies have a way of making things right again," advises Joe. After Hank sets out on a cross-country odyssey in the old Dodge "hippie van" parked in his garage for years, he discovers that there's more to traveling than following a double yellow line. Restored Heart & Soul is a heartwarming adventure of a broken old man in a broken old van, restored with God's help and some unexpected kind hearts along the way. "There's more to a car than metal and parts," Hank realizes as he faces setbacks that would try any man's patience. "It's more about the people who drive them and the stories that happen in them that make them classics."

A Collection of Mugs
As I look back on my "Collection" of beer mugs, I never thought about collecting them. Whenever I just ran across one I liked, I just bought it. After I had fifteen or twenty mugs, I continued picking them up to remember the occasion. Only after having acquired fifty or sixty did I start buying them in yard sales and antique stores to add to my "Collection". Some Guinness was spilt on the bathroom - floor. When the pub was shut for the night, out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse that stood in the pale moonlight. He lapped up the frothy foam from the - floor. - Then back on his haunches he sat, and all night long you could hear the mouse roar, "bring on the goddam cat!"
Florentine Ariosto Jones
This book recounts the story of Florentine Ariosto Jones, who after the Civil War decided to manufacture watches. Combining the cheap labor available at the time in Switzerland with US manufacturing technologies, Jones embarked on his venture to produce affordable watches for the American market. Consequently, he became a pioneer in the business of outsourcing labor for economic purposes through his contracting of labor to Europe. While the company still exists today, very little is known about Jones. The present book will undoubtedly change this by telling the fascinating story of an American adventurer and his pursuit to globalize American watchmaking at the end of the 19th Century.

I quit drinking alcohol and chewing tobacco five years ago after abusing my mind and body with their usage for over 20 years. Having much more time to think and contemplate life with an unobscured mind. I read a self-help book that positively changed my life. The book was called The Monk Who Sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma. The fable tells the astonishing story of an overworked, hard-living attorney made to confront the spiritual crisis of his out-of-balance life and the ensuing knowledge that he gains on a life-changing journey that empowers him to create a life of passion, purpose, and inner peace. My life was certainly out of balance. I was stressed, overweight, angry, tobacco-spitting, and a part-time alcoholic who had no meaningful relationships, was running my business into the ground, and was on a slippery slope heading to the edge of a cliff. At about the same time, I discovered Dr. Wayne Dyer and started studying his teachings. All of a sudden, positive things began to appear in my life. My elationships became better, and new positive people entered my life. It was like a chain reaction of present-day heroes came into my life. These include Buckminster Fuller, Robert Kiyosaki, Dr. Ron Paul, Depok Chopra, Mike Moloney, James Rickards, and many more. I began to open my mind and realize that no one knows enough to be a pessimist and to be open-minded and attached to nothing. During my path to enlightenment, I studied the Vietnam Conflict. My perspective changed concerning American exceptionalism and, in many ways, made me come to terms that the US never was great. This brought on the sad reality that what I thought for many years had not been correct, and in many ways, I felt cheated by a system that gave me a sense of superiority over the less educated common folk. I realized that I did not know shit, was arrogant and looked down upon those who knew less when in reality, they were better off not learning the fraudulent information that I had acquired. At this time, it was as if I called a time during a basketball game. I was the coach of my life, and I determined that I needed to learn the fundamentals of true history and hard money Austrian economics from the beginning. This led me to conclude that I was doing a disservice to my homeland and myself by refusing to be critical where criticism is proper. What I determined is outlined in this book.

Syria
The dispossession and forced migration of nearly 50 per cent of Syria's population has produced the greatest refugee crisis since World War II. This new book places the current displacement within the context of the widespread migrations that have indelibly marked the region throughout the last 150 years. Syria itself has harbored millions from its neighboring lands, and Syrian society has been shaped by these diasporas. Dawn Chatty explores how modern Syria came to be a refuge state, focusing first on the major forced migrations into Syria of Circassians, Armenians, Kurds, Palestinians, and Iraqis. Drawing heavily on individual narratives and stories of integration, adaptation, and compromise, she shows that a local cosmopolitanism came to be seen as intrinsic to Syrian society. She examines the current outflow of people from Syria to neighboring states as individuals and families seek survival with dignity, arguing that though the future remains uncertain, the resilience and strength of Syrian society both displaced internally within Syria and externally across borders bodes well for successful return and reintegration. If there is any hope to be found in the Syrian civil war, it is in this history.
Editorials From The Hearst Newspapers
A hook: A window into turn of the century America, where opinion and journalism shaped a nation. A window that remains as urgent today as it did then. Arthur Brisbane's Editorials From The Hearst Newspapers gathers a masterful essay collection of editorial writings that illuminate the craft, ethics, and impact of newspaper journalism at the dawn of modern media. This is not merely a reprint; it is a carefully restored portrait of late nineteenth century America, where public opinion was molded and policy debated through lucid argument, vivid prose, and civic zeal. Readers encounter thoughtful reflections on politics, power, and the responsibilities of the fourth estate, rendered with clarity that invites both study and sustained reading. Its value lies in seamless accessibility and historical depth: a concise, persuasive record for researchers and classroom reading material alike, a classic editorial collection that speaks to today's media landscape while honouring its origins. The volume stands as a landmark in united states journalism history, offering enduring lessons in rhetoric, ethics, and the responsibilities of public communication. For casual readers who enjoy strong nonfiction and for classic-literature collectors who value archival care, the book offers rich rewards. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, it has been restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint-this is a collector's item and a cultural treasure, a trusted source on American political commentary and the enduring craft of editorial writing.
