Thoughts On My Thoughts
In 1952 Stanley L. Miller carried out the Miller-Urey experiment which showed that complex organic molecules could be synthesized from inorganic compounds. This discovery gave a huge boost to the scientific investigation of the origin of life. Indeed, for some time it seemed like the creation of life in a test tube was within reach of experimental science. This "God-like" discovery had a strong influence on the atmosphere in science classes I attended in the 60's. Over the centuries nature and man through natural and man's selection have changed the appearance and productivity of plant and animal life. The life we observe today is much different than seen by earlier civilizations. The laws of natural selection, survival of the fittest and genetic material placed into plant and animal genomes from infections by viruses and bacteria over the eons of time have ensured that the evolution of living matter is a continuing dynamic force. Modern research is also changing life on our world by removing or splicing genetic material in living organisms. These efforts have made it possible to increase food production and nutritional value as well as help prevent or control inherited human diseases. We have come a long way since Stanley Miller's experiment creating organic building blocks that make up the temporal bodies of the plant and animal kingdom. However, man has never created a living organism from basic matter that makes up the earth and given it the "spark of life" and the ability to regenerate itself. The only documented place I've found where a living organism has been created that could reproduce others of its kind is in Gen 2:7 "then the Lord God formed (that is, created the body of a) man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being (an individual complete in body and spirit)." And, it appears that He also breathed life into the plants and animals. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity of being able to touch some of God's creations during my lifetime and can't wait for the day when I may meet with Him and ask, "Just how did you do that?"

And a Dog Called Fig
And a Dog Called Fig is the story of one writer's life with dogs (including a frisky new puppy), how they are uniquely ideal companions for building a creative life, and some delightful tales about dogs and their famous writersInto my writer's isolation will come a dog, to sit beside my chair or to lie on the couch while I work, to force me outside for a walk, and suddenly, although still lonely, this writer will have a companion. An artist's solitude is a sacred space, one to be guarded from the chaos of the world, where the sparks of inspiration can be kindled into fires of creation. But within this quiet also lie loneliness, self-doubt, the danger of collapsing too far inward. An artist needs a familiar, a companion with emotional intelligence, innate curiosity, an enthusiasm for the world beyond, but also the capacity to rest contentedly for many hours. What an artist needs, Helen Humphreys would say, is a dog. And a Dog Called Fig is a memoir of the writing life told through the dogs Humphreys has lived with and loved over a lifetime, including Fig, her new Vizsla puppy. Interspersed are stories of other writers and their own irreplaceable companions: Virginia Woolf and Grizzle, Gertrude Stein and Basket, Thomas Hardy and Wessex--who walked the dining table at dinner parties, taking whatever he liked--and many more. A love song to the dogs who come into our lives and all that they bring--sorrow, mayhem, reflection, joy--this is a book about steadfast friendship and loss, creativity and craft, and the restorative powers of nature. Every work of art is different; so too is every dog, with distinctive needs and lessons. And if we let them guide us, they will show us many worlds we would otherwise miss. Includes Black-and-White Photographs

Through the Eyes of a Canine
The human-canine story is the greatest love story that has ever existed. After living side-by-side for tens of thousands of years, dogs have an uncanny ability to engage with us on a deep emotional level that makes our life better, longer, and more joyful. We eagerly welcome them into our homes and families, expecting them to fit in seamlessly. But things don't always go so smoothly. While most people turn to various training methods in an attempt to deal with behavior issues, they typically encounter limited success because these approaches fail to take into account a dog's perspective. Creating a truly balanced pack requires that we learn to see the world through their eyes and recognize and honor the unique personality of each individual dog. When we make this shift and begin to communicate with our canine companions from a place of respect, we create the opportunity for a relationship of reciprocity and mutuality, one that enriches our lives and allows them to fulfill their soul's inherent purpose. In Through the Eyes of a Canine, animal behavior specialist David J Kurlander takes us on a journey through history, science, biology, ethology (the study of animal behavior), quantum theory, and personal development to lay out exactly how we can shift our human-centric way of seeing things and learn to perceive the world as dogs do. Based on decades of work with more than 150,000 dogs and years observing wild canines, Kurlander offers real-world examples, practical suggestions, and exercises you can implement immediately to gain a deeper understanding of structure, communication, nature, and nurture. As you open your mind to this new way of relating to the dogs in your life, you will begin to recognize how understanding and connection can create a harmonious pack, and even change the world.

Introducing OSCAR Therapy
OSCAR Therapy is a real-time "language" for helping you teach, communicate with, and navigate sticky situations with humans and/or captive exotic or domestic animals of any species and in any setting. You can use OSCAR Therapy to explain safety, training, medical, social, competition, or other context-based skills to any individual, regardless of species. OSCAR Therapy employs the most primal bio-emotional paradigm- a few specific rules of social nature- to assess, diagnose, treat, and resolve, even while it points out dead-end paths. For those who want to have "a partner who reads my mind" OSCAR Therapy is the key to that lock. OSCAR Therapy is fair and respectful of both you and your counterpart, helping you to find the "us" in your relationship. OSCAR Therapy is unlike ANY current training or teaching method because the choices that we promote and foster in OSCAR Therapy are based in self-expression. Because of this, learning OSCAR Therapy is like getting a chiropractic adjustment to your interpersonal skills, even your inter-species interpersonal skills, for both the recipient and the practitioner alike! Come see our OSCAR Therapy channel on YouTube! The benefits of OSCAR Therapy are many: - OSCAR Therapy is a primal teaching format based on techniques that SAFELY alter the behavioral expression and choices of animals across all species, including humans.- OSCAR Therapy is a quick and efficient way to diagnose and reverse (heal) most areas of Phobia and PTSD, SAFELY.- OSCAR Therapy is the best way to teach, educate, and/or build working partnerships with ANY species.- OSCAR Therapy is used to create and generate both talent and skill in the learner.**- OSCAR Therapy does not alter personality. An individual's unique, distinctive character stays intact and is only enhanced. When the fog of confusion and distress lifts, that's when personality, style, and the individual's general charisma can finally shine through."Casey's work does not need to be substantiated by human experts and academic credentialing. Putting letters after her name will not be necessary. By pretending this information came from human innovation would water it down, and the information is much too important to muck it up that way. The work stands on its own."-Candace K. Platz, D.V.M, U. S. Dressage Federation Gold Medalist, USDF Regional Champion AA Grand Prix "Even positive reinforcement technique rarely gives you any information from that animal's point of view. Even in operant conditioning, we trainers have all been wired by the "training" we've been taught; but what we've been taught... is not a full conversation in any way. OSCAR is the full monty... the full conversation."-Leita Hagemann, Dog Trainer, Connecticut"My 12-year-old son has always had a severe dog phobia. We tried everything including professionals, but nothing helped. After three OSCAR sessions, (two of those only by video chat) he asked if we can get a dog!" -Mary N. "I've been unable to go in past my knees for 60 years. With Casey's keen attention to my UNCONSCIOUS behaviors in the water, eleven sessions is all it took to learn to swim." -Tim H."I have been a horse business advertiser for 25 years. Not only has there never been anything like this before, but as an OSCAR practitioner now myself, I can say that this is the most effective approach to helping animals that I've ever learned."- Dana Stillwell, Founder of Steed Read Horseman's Classified, New England, US

From the Mouths of Dogs
What is it that dogs have done to earn the title of "man's best friend"? And more broadly, how have all of our furry, feathered, and four-legged brethren managed to enrich our lives? Why do we love them? What can we learn from them? And why is it so difficult to say goodbye? Join B.J. Hollars as he attempts to find out--beginning with an ancient dog cemetery in Ashkelon, Israel, and moving to the present day. Hollars's firsthand reports recount a range of stories: the arduous existence of a shelter officer, a woman's relentless attempt to found a senior-dog adoption facility, a family's struggle to create a one-of-a-kind orthotic for its bulldog, and the particular bond between a blind woman and her Seeing Eye dog. The book culminates with Hollars's own cross-country journey to Hartsdale Pet Cemetery--the country's largest and oldest pet cemetery--to begin the long-overdue process of laying his own childhood dog to rest. Through these stories, Hollars reveals much about our pets but even more about the humans who share their lives, providing a much-needed reminder that the world would be a better place if we took a few cues from man's best friends.

Soulmate Dog
The struggle to understand the true meaning of "home" is one many of us face. For those who have been adopted, that challenge can be even greater. Throughout her life, Shawna Marie Fischer had searched to find her footing in the world, with no idea that her greatest guide would come with four paws and a wagging tongue. Soulmate Dog recounts Shawna's moving journey with Luna, the yellow lab whose unconditional love not only helped her heal from trauma but unlock her ability to communicate with the incredible furry and feathered angels who walk alongside us. Luna is there as Shawna explores the ways in which being adopted affected her in both positive and negative ways; she also, with the unconditional love only animals can give, shows Shawna where she had compromised herself and, ultimately, how to embrace life to the fullest. Filled with highs and lows, fun adventures and sparks of wisdom, the book will help readers realize the transcendent experience of truly listening to their animal companions, and remember how their relationships with their beloved pets healed their lives and the lives of those around them. It also shows readers how they are in constant communication with their animals (whether they realize it or not), and how they can tune into them in a deeper and more intentional way.
