Corrosion in Concrete
Improving the durability of reinforced concrete structures is a mandatory strategy to reduce the environmental impact of construction materials together with aiming to limit carbon dioxide emissions, energy consumption and natural raw materials depletion. Hence, for both new and existing concrete structures, proper protective techniques are required to prevent premature failure induced by environmental aggressive agents. The book presents the most innovative findings both in designing durable new constructions and toward solving durability deficiencies in existing concrete structures, such as innovative special coatings, hydrophobic impregnations and pore blocking treatments that are very efficient in severe aggressive environments (seawater, biocorrosion, etc.). Moreover, migrant corrosion inhibitors applied on concrete surfaces are able to greatly improve resistance against both chloride and CO2. Finally, special reinforcements and fibers, together with a proper designed cathodic protection, can greatly contribute to obtaining long-life reinforced concrete structures, significantly increasing the sustainability of concrete construction.

We would like to provide the scientists a set of studies entitled "Study of the Influence of Abiotic and Biotic Stress Factors on Horticultural Plants". The reprint book contains 12 papers about the influence of the stress factors on the plant growth and soil parameters. Occurrence and Functions of Endophytic Fungi in Crop Species
In the past few decades, awareness of the basic role that endophytic fungi play in shaping the fitness of both wild and crop plants has increased significantly. The number of papers on the subject is so large that it is becoming difficult to have a complete overview of the state-of-the-art with reference to specific crops. In the absence of readily available documents providing circumstantial information on the endophytic assemblage of plants, the isolation of a certain fungal species may appear to be occasional or trivial; hence, many important findings are at risk of going unnoticed. Taxonomy and Ecology of Marine Algae
The term "algae" refers to a large diversity of unrelated phylogenetic entities, ranging from picoplanktonic cells to macroalgal kelps. Marine algae are an important primary producer in the marine food chain, responsible for the high primary production of coastal areas, providing food resources in situ for many grazing species of gastropods, peracarid crustaceans, sea urchins or fish. Recent findings indicate that marine environments have rapidly changed due to global warming over the past several decades. This change has led to significant variations in marine algal ecology. For example, a long-term increase in ocean temperatures due to global warming has facilitated the intensification of harmful algal blooms, which adversely impact public health, aquatic organisms, and aquaculture industries. Thus, extensive studies have been conducted, but there is still a gap in our understanding of the variation in their ecology in accordance with future marine environmental changes. To fill this gap, studies on the taxonomy and ecology of marine algae are highly necessary.We have invited algologists to submit research articles that enable us to advance our understanding of the taxonomy and ecology of marine algae. Fourteen papers have been collected so far, which cover different aspects of the taxonomy and ecology of marine algae, including understudied species, interspecific comparisons, and new techniques.

Infection in Honey Bees
Honey -bee pathogens are spread worldwide and are strongly related to the decline of honey bee populations, with which has severe implications for beekeeping, honey production and ecology. Honey bee pathogens are continuously studied by researchers to with the aim to better understand the host--s-parasites relationship of these pathogens and the effects that they have on the bee coloniesy. Honey bee pathogens include bacteria (i.e. i.e., Melissococcus plutonius and Paenibacillus larvae), microsporidia (i.e. i.e., Nosema apis and Nosema ceranae), fungi (i.e. i.e., Ascosphaera apis), protozoa (i.e. i.e., Lotmaria passim, Crithidia bombi and Crithidia mellificae) and viruses (i.e. i.e., ABPV, CBPV, IAPV, KBV, DWV, BQCV and SBV). All of these pathogens are able to infect other bee species; infections would have with important implications in for their life cycles (e.g. e.g., Osmia sp. and Bombus sp.) or cause unknown epidemiological effects for other hymenopterans. BesidesIn addition, old and new invasive pests (such as Varroa destructor, Aethina tumida, Vespa velutina, etc.) necessitate more studies to definite define their role as possible vectors or possible sources of infection for honey bees. For these reasons, knowledge on honey -bee pathogens has become a matter of public interest and is connected with the critical role of honey -bee health. The aim of this Special Issue is to explore honey bee pathogens, considering any aspect in relation to host-pathogen interaction and highlighting the possible interaction and spillover with other bee species and invasive pests, through a series of research articles focusing that focus on different aspects of pathologies.

Genetics, Genomics and Biotechnology of Plant Cytoplasmic Organelles
The papers included in this Special Issue address a variety of important aspects of Genetics, Genomics and Biotechnology of Plant Cytoplasmic Organelles, including new advances in the sequencing of both mitochondria and chloroplasts' genomes using Next-Generation Sequencing technology in plant species and algae including important crop and tree species, in vitro culture protocol, and identification of a core module of genes involved in plastid development. In particular, the published studies focus on the description of adaptive evolution, elucidate mitochondrial mRNA processing, highlight the effect of domestication process on plastome variability and report the development of molecular markers. A meta-analysis of recently published genome-wide expression studies allowed the identification of novel nuclear genes, involved in the complex and still unrevealed mechanisms at the basis of communication between chloroplast and nucleus (retrograde signalling) during plastid development (biogenic control). Finally, an optimized regeneration protocol useful in plastid transformation of recalcitrant species, such as sugarcane, has been reported.
Flavour Volatiles of Wine
The perception of wine flavour and aroma is the result of several interactions between a large number of chemical compounds and sensory receptors. Compounds show synergistic (one compound enhances the perception of another) and antagonistic (one compound suppresses the perception of another) interactions. The chemical profile of a wine is derived from the entire process, starting from the grapes and continuing through to bottled ageing. At the moment, wine makers are limited as to the range of yeasts that are able to impart some specific aromatic characteristic to a wine, and research focuses on issues such as adjusting the levels of flavour and aroma compounds, in particular esters and alcohols, producing enzymes that will release additional volatile compounds from the grapes, and reducing the amount of alcohol to levels that allow a better perception and release of aroma and flavour compounds. New yeast strains are continuously being developed using traditional breeding techniques, leading to different flavour and aroma profiles in wine. The potential flavour volatiles of wine include, but are not limited, to the following: i) varietal;ii) pre-fermentative volatiles formed by the yeast during fermentation;iii) formed by the yeast directly related to alcoholic fermentation;iv) related to amino acid metabolism;v) formed during malolactic fermentation;vi) formed during ageing (reductive and oxidative pathway) and maturation. This Special Issue, "Flavour Volatiles of Wine", aims to reach a mechanistic understanding of these pathways, with a focus on the reactions involved in the formation or degradation of key wine odorants, and of the technological factors involved during the winemaking process. It consists of six peer-reviewed papers that cover novel aspects of volatile compounds research in the wine sector.
