Reinhard Schlickeiser's internationally well-recognized work, comprising several hundred research articles and the comprehensive monograph "Cosmic Ray Astrophysics," has had a lasting influence in several areas of astrophysics. He has also inspired a large number of junior researchers, many of whom are now pursuing successful academic careers. Over the last few decades, he has motivated and established many fruitful collaborations that have triggered new ideas and provided new insights into various plasma and astrophysical topics. Winds of Stars and Exoplanets (Iau S370)
Winds form an integral part of astronomy - from regulating rotation of stars through enriching galaxies with fresh materials. Outflowing winds persist during the entire lives of stars and play a key role in shaping the exoplanet demographics we observe. In massive stars, their winds are a vital ingredient of their evolution, from the main sequence to the pre-supernova stage, determining black hole masses as measured from gravitational waves. In the case of low-mass stars, their winds dictate rotational evolution, which affect angular momentum distribution within the stellar interior and thus the generation of magnetic fields. In the case of planets, winds take the form of atmospheric escape, which can strongly affect their atmospheric evolution. IAU Symposium 370 brings together researchers on winds of exoplanets and stars, including the solar wind, to share insights into the physics and modelling tools used by these different communities.

Energy efficiency for industry involves a vast spectrum as varied as the industry itself. This book focuses on the utilities in industries which narrows down the coverage to a finite area. Here the concentration is on industrial utilities such as boilers, air compressors, motors etc which support all industries even though the industries have different processes and manufacturing lines. There are 12 to 15 utilities commonly used in all industries and these consume a large proportion of energy. While the processes in each industry are more complex and require a high degree of intricate knowledge before any improvement is undertaken in the process, the utilities can be approached more easily for the purpose of energy efficiency. Processes may have some uniqueness but the utilities have more commonality with other industries. The global demand for energy is currently growing beyond the limits of installable generation capacity. To efficiently meet the future energy demands, energy security and reliability needs to be improved and alternative energy sources required to be more aggressively investigated. Of the many available renewable sources of energy, solar energy are clearly a promising option as it is abundantly available at most places and is also the cleanest energy resource on our planet. Solar power, especially as it reaches more competitive levels with other energy sources in terms of cost, may serve to sustain the lives of millions of underprivileged people in developing countries. The recent trends are to decrease the cost of the energy generation either by introducing the low cost processing techniques or by enhancing the efficiency of the solar cells. After the 1st and 2nd generation of the bulk silicon based - and thin-film Si/CdTe/CIGS based solar cells, the 3rd generation technologies are underway. The new technologies include photo-electrochemical cells, polymer solar, quantum dot, tandem / multi-junction, up-conversion and down-conversion, surface plasmonic and nano-crystal solar cells and other novel innovations and inventions. To deliberate on the current trends in solar power generation, its harnessing, storage, solar energy conversion, processing technologies, modeling and simulation plus engineering of the small solar energy generation plants and related issues, the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) jointly with the Amity University, UP, India - Dubai Campus organised an International Workshop on 'Trends in Solar Power Generation and Energy Harvesting' in Dubai during 27-29 March 2017 which brought together the senior experts and professionals from 23 countries to a common platform. This explains the book's "strange" style: on the one hand, it is highly didactic and explicit, with a host of examples for the physicists, but, in addition, there are also almost 100 separate technical boxes, appendices, and starred sections, in which matters discussed in the main text are put into a broader mathematical perspective, while deeper and more rigorous points of view (particularly those from the modern era) are presented. The boxes also serve to further shore up the reader's understanding of the underlying math. In writing this book, the author's goal was not to achieve any sort of definitive conciseness, opting instead for clarity and "completeness". To this end, several arguments are presented more than once from different viewpoints and in varying contexts.

Probing Unconventional Transport Regimes in Delafossite Metals
This thesis describes in-depth studies of the remarkable electronic transport within the ultrahigh conductivity delafossite metals PtCoO_2 and PdCoO_2 using the tool of focused ion beam (FIB) microstucturing. Despite being first synthesised over 50 years ago, important questions remain regarding both the origin of the unusually high conductivity of these compounds and the consequences of their unique properties for unconventional electronic transport, such as that within the ballistic regime. The thesis explores both these areas.High-energy electron irradiation is used to examine the effects of deliberately introducing point defects into PdCoO_2 and PtCoO_2, demonstrating that the extremely low resistivity of these materials stems from an extreme purity as high as 1 defect in 120,000 atoms, rather than a novel scattering suppression mechanism. In addition, studies of the electronic transport in micron-scale squares of these metals show that their broadly hexagonal Fermi surfaces lead not only to long range ballistic behaviour but novel ballistic regime phenomena which cannot be observed in materials with a higher-symmetry Fermi surface.
