Recent Advances on Quasi-Metric Spaces

Ingram 出版
2020/06/01 出版

Metric fixed-point theory lies in the intersection of three main subjects: topology, functional analysis, and applied mathematics. The first fixed-point theorem, also known as contraction mapping principle, was abstracted by Banach from the papers of Liouville and Picard, in which certain differential equations were solved by using the method of successive approximation. In other words, fixed-point theory developed from applied mathematics and has developed in functional analysis and topology. Fixed-point theory is a dynamic research subject that has never lost the attention of researchers, as it is very open to development both in theoretical and practical fields. In this Special Issue, among several submissions, we selected eight papers that we believe will be interesting to researchers who study metric fixed-point theory and related applications. It is great to see that this Special Issue fulfilled its aims. There are not only theoretical results but also some applications that were based on obtained fixed-point results. In addition, the presented results have great potential to be improved, extended, and generalized in distinct ways. The published results also have a wide application potential in various qualitative sciences, including physics, economics, computer science, engineering, and so on.

Non-associative Structures and Other Related Structures

Ingram 出版
2020/06/01 出版

Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) was born in Basel, Switzerland. Euler's formula is a mathematical formula in complex analysis that establishes the fundamental relationship between the trigonometric functions and the complex exponential function. When its variable is the number pi, Euler's formula evaluates to Euler's identity. On the other hand, the Yang-Baxter equation is considered the most beautiful equation by many scholars. In this book, we study connections between Euler's formulas and the Yang-Baxter equation. Other interesting sections include: non-associative algebras with metagroup relations; branching functions for admissible representations of affine Lie Algebras; super-Virasoro algebras; dual numbers; UJLA structures; etc.

Spline Solutions of Higher Order Boundary Value Problems

Ingram 出版
2020/06/01 出版

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Mathematics - Applied Mathematics, language: English, abstract: Some of the problems of real world phenomena can be described by differential equations involving the ordinary or partial derivatives with some initial or boundary conditions. To interpret the physical behavior of the problem it is necessary to know the solution of the differential equation. Unfortunately, it is not possible to solve some of the differential equations whether they are ordinary or partial with initial or boundary conditions through the analytical methods. When, we fail to find the solution of ordinary differential equation or partial differential equation with initial or boundary conditions through the analytical methods, one can obtain the numerical solution of such problems through the numerical methods up to the desired degree of accuracy. Of course, these numerical methods can also be applied to find the numerical solution of a differential equation which can be solved analytically. Several problems in natural sciences, social sciences, medicine, business management, engineering, particle dynamics, fluid mechanics, elasticity, heat transfer, chemistry, economics, anthropology and finance can be transformed into boundary value problems using mathematical modeling. A few problems in various fields of science and engineering yield linear and nonlinear boundary value problems of second order such as heat equation in thermal studies, wave equation in communication etc. Fifth-order boundary value problems generally arise in mathematical modeling of viscoelastic flows. The dynamo action in some stars may be modeled by sixth-order boundary-value problems. The narrow convecting layers bounded by stable layers which are believed to surround A-type stars may be modeled by sixth-order boundary value problems which arise in astrophysics. The seventh order boundary value problems generally arise in modeling induction motors wit

The Art of Logic in an Illogical World

Basic Books 出版
2020/05/05 出版

How both logical and emotional reasoning can help us live better in our post-truth world In a world where fake news stories change election outcomes, has rationality become futile? In The Art of Logic in an Illogical World, Eugenia Cheng throws a lifeline to readers drowning in the illogic of contemporary life. Cheng is a mathematician, so she knows how to make an airtight argument. But even for her, logic sometimes falls prey to emotion, which is why she still fears flying and eats more cookies than she should. If a mathematician can't be logical, what are we to do? In this book, Cheng reveals the inner workings and limitations of logic, and explains why alogic -- for example, emotion -- is vital to how we think and communicate. Cheng shows us how to use logic and alogic together to navigate a world awash in bigotry, mansplaining, and manipulative memes. Insightful, useful, and funny, this essential book is for anyone who wants to think more clearly.

The Role of Halo Substructure in Gamma-Ray Dark Matter SearchesTheRole of Halo Substructur

Ingram 出版
2020/05/01 出版

An important, open research topic today is to understand the relevance that dark matter halo substructure may have for dark matter searches. In the standard cosmological model, halo substructure or subhalos are predicted to be largely abundant inside larger halos, for example, galaxies such as ours, and are thought to form first and later merge to form larger structures. Dwarf satellite galaxies-the most massive exponents of halo substructure in our own galaxy-are already known to be excellent targets for dark matter searches, and indeed, they are constantly scrutinized by current gamma-ray experiments in the search for dark matter signals. Lighter subhalos not massive enough to have a visible counterpart of stars and gas may be good targets as well, given their typical abundances and distances. In addition, the clumpy distribution of subhalos residing in larger halos may boost the dark matter signals considerably. In an era in which gamma-ray experiments possess, for the first time, the exciting potential to put to test the preferred dark matter particle theories, a profound knowledge of dark matter astrophysical targets and scenarios is mandatory should we aim for accurate predictions of dark matter-induced fluxes for investing significant telescope observing time on selected targets and for deriving robust conclusions from our dark matter search efforts. In this regard, a precise characterization of the statistical and structural properties of subhalos becomes critical. In this Special Issue, we aim to summarize where we stand today on our knowledge of the different aspects of the dark matter halo substructure; to identify what are the remaining big questions, and how we could address these; and, by doing so, to find new avenues for research.

Symmetry in Classical and Fuzzy Algebraic Hypercompositional Structures

Ingram 出版
2020/05/01 出版

This book is a collection of 12 innovative research papers in the field of hypercompositional algebra, 7 of them being more theoretically oriented, with the other 5 presenting strong applicative aspects in engineering, control theory, artificial intelligence, and graph theory. Hypercompositional algebra is now a well-established branch of abstract algebra dealing with structures endowed with multi-valued operations, also called hyperoperations, having a set as the result of the interrelation between two elements of the support set. The theoretical papers in this book are principally related to three main topics: (semi)hypergroups, hyperfields, and BCK-algebra. Heidari and Cristea present a natural generalization of breakable semigroups, defining the breakable semihypergroups where every non-empty subset is a subsemihypergroup. Using the fundamental relation β on a hypergroup, some new properties of the β-classes are obtained by De Salvo et al., who introduced and investigated the notion of height of a β-class. Based on the properties of a cyclic hypergroup of particular matrices, Krehlik and Vyroubalova describe the symmetry of lower and upper approximations in certain rough sets connected with this hypergroup. These results suggest an application to the study of detection sensors. In the framework of hyperrings and hyperfields theory, a new line of research has been developed regarding hyperhomographies on Krasner hyperfields, with interesting applications in cryptography (Vahedi et al.) and new fuzzy weak hyperideals were defined in Hv-rings by using the concept of fuzzy multiset (Al Tahan et al.), for which some algebraic properties were obtained. Two articles are dedicated to the study of BCK-algebras. Bordbar et al. present the properties of the relative annihilator in lower BCK-semilattices, whereas several types of intuitionistic fuzzy soft ideals in hyper BCK-algebras were defined and studied by Xin et al. Increasing numbers of researchers are interested in the applicative aspects of algebraic hypercompositional structures. For example, new properties related with symmetric relations are emphasized by Chvalina and Smetana for the structures and hyperstructures of artificial neurons. Novak et al. present a mathematical model based on elements of algebraic hyperstructure theory, used in the context of underwater wireless sensor networks. A construction of granular structures using m-polar fuzzy hypergraphs and level hypergraphs is illustrated in Luqman et al. using examples from a real-life problem. In the last paper in this book, Akram et al. discuss some properties related to edge regularity for q-rung picture fuzzy graphs.

Belief Attitudes, Fine-Grained Hyperintensionality and Type-Theoretic Logic

Ingram 出版
2020/05/01 出版

The book Belief Attitudes, Fine-Grained Hyperintensionality and Type-Theoretic Logic offers an extensively elaborated approach to belief attitudes (knowledge, belief, etc.). It provides a thorough and efficient revision of the partial type theory founded by the Czech logician Pavel Tichy (based in New Zealand) and contributes to the current type-theoretic semantics. The type theory receives here a Henkin-style model-theoretic specification and the supplemented Tichy's natural deduction in sequent style provides its proof-theoretic specification. After the analysis of a fragment of natural language, a number of arguments involving belief sentences is examined and adequately modelled. The semantic system employed in this book involves rules for various logical and many extra-logical constants, it is called Transparent Hyperintensional Logic (THL). THL is a higher-order multimodal logic. It is an extensive development of Kuchyˇnka's initial revision of Tichy's Transparent Intensional Logic (TIL).The proposal is tested against well-known paradoxes such as Frege's paradox of identity, Cresswell's paradox of hyperintensional contexts, Hintikka's paradox of logical omniscience, Church-Fitch's paradox of knowability, or Kaplan-Montague's Knower Paradox.Jirı Raclavsky is Professor of Philosophy at Masaryk University (Brno, the Czech Republic).

The Theory of Permutable FunctionsTheTheory of Permutable Functions

Ingram 出版
2020/05/01 出版

A fundamental property of permutability is expressed in the following theorem: Two functions permutable with a third are permutable with each other. A group of permutable functions is characterized by a function of the first order of which the first and second partial derivatives exist and are finite. Consequently when we consider a group of permutable functions, we shall always assume that there is known to us a function of the first order which has finite derivatives of the first and second orders and belongs to the group. This function shall be spoken of as the fundamental function of the group. When a fundamental function of the group has the canonical form, we shall speak of the group as a canonical group. A remarkable group of permutable functions is the so-called closed-cycle group, which is made up of functions of the form f(y-x). Unity belongs to this group, and it is deduced immediately.

Partial Differential Equations: Methods, Applications and Theories (2nd Edition)

Ingram 出版
2020/04/07 出版

This is an introductory level textbook for partial differential equations (PDEs). It is suitable for a one-semester undergraduate level or two-semester graduate level course in PDEs or applied mathematics. This volume is application-oriented and rich in examples. Going through these examples, the reader is able to easily grasp the basics of PDEs.Chapters One to Five are organized to aid understanding of the basic PDEs. They include the first-order equations and the three fundamental second-order equations, i.e. the heat, wave and Laplace equations. Through these equations, we learn the types of problems, how we pose the problems, and the methods of solutions such as the separation of variables and the method of characteristics. The modeling aspects are explained as well. The methods introduced in earlier chapters are developed further in Chapters Six to Twelve. They include the Fourier series, the Fourier and the Laplace transforms, and the Green's functions. Equations in higher dimensions are also discussed in detail. In this second edition, a new chapter is added and numerous improvements have been made including the reorganization of some chapters. Extensions of nonlinear equations treated in earlier chapters are also discussed.Partial differential equations are becoming a core subject in Engineering and the Sciences. This textbook will greatly benefit those studying in these subjects by covering basic and advanced topics in PDEs based on applications.

The reader will find it to be a captivating introduction with a number of non-routine exercises dispersed throughout the book. The authors begin with a study of initial value problems for systems of differential equations including the Picard and Peano existence theorems. The continuability of solutions, their continuous dependence on initial conditions, and their continuous dependence with respect to parameters are presented in detail. This is followed by a discussion of the differentiability of solutions with respect to initial conditions and with respect to parameters. Comparison results and differential inequalities are included as well.Linear systems of differential equations are treated in detail as is appropriate for a study of ODEs at this level. Just the right amount of basic properties of matrices are introduced to facilitate the observation of matrix systems and especially those with constant coefficients. Floquet theory for linear periodic systems is presented and used to analyze nonhomogeneous linear systems.Stability theory of first order and vector linear systems are considered. The relationships between stability of solutions, uniform stability, asymptotic stability, uniformly asymptotic stability, and strong stability are examined and illustrated with examples as is the stability of vector linear systems. The book concludes with a chapter on perturbed systems of ODEs.

Ordinary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems - Volume II: Boundary Value Problems

Ingram 出版
2020/04/07 出版

The authors give a systematic introduction to boundary value problems (BVPs) for ordinary differential equations. The book is a graduate level text and good to use for individual study. With the relaxed style of writing, the reader will find it to be an enticing invitation to join this important area of mathematical research. Starting with the basics of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations, linear equations and the construction of Green's functions are presented clearly.A discussion of the important question of the existence of solutions to both linear and nonlinear problems plays a central role in this volume and this includes solution matching and the comparison of eigenvalues. The important and very active research area on existence and multiplicity of positive solutions is treated in detail. The last chapter is devoted to nodal solutions for BVPs with separated boundary conditions as well as for non-local problems.

Decimal Counting Boards

Ingram 出版
2020/04/03 出版

Decimal Counting Boards is about the "why" of basic Arithmetic. This book is interesting in that it eliminates the "mystic" aspects of Numbers. This book is relevant in that the evolution of teaching Numbers has resulted in many misconceptions of the Nature of Numbers and consequently has led to many who do not think they know Numbers that were taught by those who think they know Numbers. The relevance is that every aspect of Human civilization is based on written Numbers. Readers can take away the realization that the Numbers Humans use are a result of converting an imaginary concept into a tangible reality.About the AuthorMitchell E. Freeman's career spanned over 37 years in the Fleet Ballistic Missile Program. In addition to his FBM training, he has an AA and a BS with some Master's work. He held numerous positions throughout his career that required the practical application of numbers.Freeman is a Member of MENSA, American Legion, and a Signature Life Member of the Georgia Watercolor Society.

Trigonometric Delights

Eli,Maor  著
Ingram 出版
2020/04/01 出版

A fun, entertaining exploration of the ideas and people behind the growth of trigonometry Trigonometry has a reputation as a dry, difficult branch of mathematics, a glorified form of geometry complicated by tedious computation. In Trigonometric Delights, Eli Maor dispels this view. Rejecting the usual descriptions of sine, cosine, and their trigonometric relatives, he brings the subject to life in a compelling blend of history, biography, and mathematics. From the proto-trigonometry of the Egyptian pyramid builders and the first true trigonometry developed by Greek astronomers, to the epicycles and hypocycles of the toy Spirograph, Maor presents both a survey of the main elements of trigonometry and a unique account of its vital contribution to science and social growth. A tapestry of stories, curiosities, insights, and illustrations, Trigonometric Delights irrevocably changes how we see this essential mathematical discipline.

Reverberations of a StrokeA Memoir

Springer 出版
2020/04/01 出版

In the early morning hours of Feb. 1, 2016, Karl Gustafson became instinctively aware that something catastrophic was happening inside him. A severe headache that had persisted for days had taken a sudden turn for the worse, and a clear inner voice ordered him to obtain immediate help. With determined effort, he tapped out the digits "9-1-1" on his phone--bringing an ambulance to his door quickly and saving his life. Emergency Room doctors would soon learn that Professor Gustafson, a renowned American mathematician, had suffered a deep brain hemorrhage, and that the situation was dire. By the time his condition was diagnosed, blood had pooled into all four ventricles of Gustafson's brain and he was comatose. Against all odds and surprising everyone, the author emerged from a near-death state to go on to what he calls his "Second Life". This is the story of his miraculous journey of recovery, an inspirational tale of grit and determination, in his own words.

Triumph of LoveA Mathematical Exploration of Being, Becoming, Life, and Transhumanism in a

Malik,Pravir  著
Ingram 出版
2020/04/01 出版

Broadly speaking transhumanism refers to a philosophy whose focus is to move beyond current human limits. This book suggests an approach to transhumanism based on a perception of Light elaborated in the previous nine books in the Cosmology of Light book series. In this perception light is envisioned as existing at different constant speeds. We know that in our physical universe light travels at a constant speed referred to as 'c', of 186,000 miles per second. This has a concrete bearing on how we experience time and space, and on how matter arises, and in a Cosmology of Light it can be said that light at c is an intentionality to filter infinite potentiality from Light's native state of traveling infinitely fast, so life can arise in a particular way. As the previous books have elaborated, and as this book will adequately summarize, a cosmology arises when we consider the simultaneous and interpenetrating realities created when Light exists at multiple constant speeds simultaneously. The dynamics and information resident in each of these simultaneous realities is arbitrated into material reality through a constant and persistent quantum-level computation that generates genetic-type information that effectively becomes "law". Quanta in such a cosmology is perceived as being the mechanism by which information in faster-moving layers of light is materialized in a slower-moving layer of light. "Law" manifests as quadrumvirate mechanisms such as space-time-energy-gravity, the electro-magnetic-wavearchetype-masspotential spectrum, quark-lepton-boson-Higgsboson particles, 's'shell-'p'shell'-'d'shell-'f'shell atoms, nucleicacid-lipid-protein-polysaccharide cells, amongst other mechanisms, that derive their ability to "become" based on the native "being" of Light's omnipresent-omnipotent-omniscient-omninurturing fourfoldness. It may even be said that such "becomings" resulting in quadrumvirate-based law, reveal essential "beings". But, such fourfoldness that manifests as effective law, or through the becoming involving persistent quantum-level computation that reveals a being, is none other than a triumph of love. For it is only the power of love, of that innate need to maintain the integrality of light's fourfoldness even as it continues to materialize, that can be the foundation of a sustainable becoming. The more powerful such love, so that in any materialization there is integration not only of the fourfoldness of Light's implicit properties, but also of an integration of the many layers of light existing at different speeds, the more fully will a becoming be founded on completeness of potentiality in light to itself become a being capable of engendering light-based life. Hence, as will be suggested in this book, not only does a particular 'type' of being engender vast variation within that type, but further, beings can combine with beings, which is essentially an act of love, to create more comprehensive beings resulting in all the complexity of life. Life itself will be seen to originate in the native state of Light, adding function and variation as light precipitates into more and more material reality emerging as a fullness of life.At the base of all possible variation and advancement in being, becoming, and life, is the ability to influence the process of the persistent quantum-level computation so that there is a more complete horizontal and vertical integration of Light - a more complete light-based-singularity as it were - and therefore of the output of genetic-type information and consequently of laws that are active in a being's becoming. This is what is considered to be the basis of a system or framework of transhumanism in a cosmology of light.

The Application of Mathematics to Physics and Nonlinear Science

Andrei,Ludu  著
Ingram 出版
2020/04/01 出版

Nonlinear science is the science of, among other exotic phenomena, unexpected and unpredictable behavior, catastrophes, complex interactions, and significant perturbations. Ocean and atmosphere dynamics, weather, many bodies in interaction, ultra-high intensity excitations, life, formation of natural patterns, and coupled interactions between components or different scales are only a few examples of systems where nonlinear science is necessary. All outstanding, self-sustained, and stable structures in space and time exist and protrude out of a regular linear background of states mainly because they identify themselves from the rest by being highly localized in range, time, configuration, states, and phase spaces. Guessing how high up you drive toward the top of the mountain by compiling your speed, road slope, and trip duration is a linear model, but predicting the occurrence around a turn of a boulder fallen on the road is a nonlinear phenomenon. In an effort to grasp and understand nonlinear phenomena, scientists have developed several mathematical approaches including inverse scattering theory, Backlund and groups of transformations, bilinear method, and several other detailed technical procedures. In this Special Issue, we introduce a few very recent approaches together with their physical meaning and applications. We present here five important papers on waves, unsteady flows, phases separation, ocean dynamics, nonlinear optic, viral dynamics, and the self-appearance of patterns for spatially extended systems, which are problems that have aroused scientists' interest for decades, yet still cannot be predicted and have their generating mechanism and stability open to debate. The aim of this Special Issue was to present these most debated and interesting topics from nonlinear science for which, despite the existence of highly developed mathematical tools of investigation, there are still fundamental open questions.

Interactions between Group Theory, Symmetry and Cryptology

Ingram 出版
2020/04/01 出版

Cryptography lies at the heart of most technologies deployed today for secure communications. At the same time, mathematics lies at the heart of cryptography, as cryptographic constructions are based on algebraic scenarios ruled by group or number theoretical laws. Understanding the involved algebraic structures is, thus, essential to design robust cryptographic schemes. This Special Issue is concerned with the interplay between group theory, symmetry and cryptography. The book highlights four exciting areas of research in which these fields intertwine: post-quantum cryptography, coding theory, computational group theory and symmetric cryptography. The articles presented demonstrate the relevance of rigorously analyzing the computational hardness of the mathematical problems used as a base for cryptographic constructions. For instance, decoding problems related to algebraic codes and rewriting problems in non-abelian groups are explored with cryptographic applications in mind. New results on the algebraic properties or symmetric cryptographic tools are also presented, moving ahead in the understanding of their security properties. In addition, post-quantum constructions for digital signatures and key exchange are explored in this Special Issue, exemplifying how (and how not) group theory may be used for developing robust cryptographic tools to withstand quantum attacks.

Invariants and Pictures: Low-Dimensional Topology and Combinatorial Group Theory

Ingram 出版
2020/04/01 出版

This book contains an in-depth overview of the current state of the recently emerged and rapidly growing theory of Gnk groups, picture-valued invariants, and braids for arbitrary manifolds. Equivalence relations arising in low-dimensional topology and combinatorial group theory inevitably lead to the study of invariants, and good invariants should be strong and apparent. An interesting case of such invariants is picture-valued invariants, whose values are not algebraic objects, but geometrical constructions, like graphs or polyhedra. In 2015, V O Manturov defined a two-parametric family of groups Gnk and formulated the following principle: if dynamical systems describing a motion of n particles possess a nice codimension 1 property governed by exactly k particles then these dynamical systems possess topological invariants valued in Gnk.The book is devoted to various realisations and generalisations of this principle in the broad sense. The groups Gnk have many epimorphisms onto free products of cyclic groups; hence, invariants constructed from them are powerful enough and easy to compare. However, this construction does not work when we try to deal with points on a 2-surface, since there may be infinitely many geodesics passing through two points. That leads to the notion of another family of groups -- Γnk, which give rise to braids on arbitrary manifolds yielding invariants of arbitrary manifolds.
