Adaptive Weighting of Multi-taper Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

Anonym  著
Ingram 出版
2020/03/25 出版

Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Mathematics - Applied Mathematics, grade: Master Degree, language: English, abstract: This thesis discusses the performance enhancement of multi-taper spectrum sensing as a powerful technique for cognitive radio networks. In multi-taper spectrum sensing, regular detection of unused spectrum holes is performed to make cognitive radio networks aware of users' ctivities. As a result, more effective spectrum management is expected and unlicensed users could use unused spectrum holes. In this thesis, an analytical study was proposed in which reliable, simple, and computationally efficient mathematical expressions for the mean and variance of the probability density function (PDF) of the multitaper spectrum sensing techniques were derived. The proposed analytical study was evaluated by intensive simulations using MATLAB. The presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise is assumed. Many important aspects of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks are included such as, receiver operating characteristics, detection rate versus signal to noise ratio (SNR), and the minimum required sample points for a specific performance. All simulations were performed to include most factors affecting the efficiency of the proposed sensing methodology such as, number of tapers (K), number of sample points (N), and the probability of false alarm (Pf). A comparison with energy detection method was done. All simulation results and comparisons confirm that the proposed model is reliable and robust under all factors considered in the simulation.

Color Your Way to Math

Ingram 出版
2020/03/03 出版

This is the second volume of a mathematical series for preschoolers to grade 2. It introduces basic concepts and helps to get started with Math. This volume covers the following topics: - skip counting, - ordinal numbers, - large vs small group, counting elements in groups, - translating counts into addition, - halves as a symmetry concept, - the halves of geometric shapes, - the halves of numbers, - equality, - commutativity, - fitting a count of cards into a geometric container, - finding a missing number in card combinations, a precursor to understanding equations and family of facts. - logical operators: OR, NOT. Each volume takes a bite-sized approach to avoid overwhelming the student. Volumes were designed to have a size and font that is comfortable to young children. The exercises in this book were designed to reinforce focused and distributed attention, pre-attentive processing, prioritizing what is important in a task, and organizing ideas while keeping track of items located all over the page. Between the ages of 2 and 6, children benefit from extra synapses in their brain which help them learn new skills such as math and languages with ease. If these skills are neglected synaptic pruning will eliminate connections that are not being used. For children who start math at an older age, learning becomes increasingly difficult. We know from academic research that math instruction needs to begin young, which positions the parent to play a most significant role in their child's education. This book attempts to provide parents and teachers with a powerful tool to ensure cognitive changes occur that support an excellent basis for successful learning of mathematics in young children. It also helps keep abilities strong and healthy prior to, and within the first few years of entering the school system.

Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

As a mathematician, philosopher, logician, historian, socialist, pacifist, and social critic, Bertrand Russell is noted for his "revolt against idealism" in Britain in the early 20th century, as well as his pacifist activism during WWI, a campaign against Adolf Hitler and later the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War. In addition to his political activism, he is considered to be one of the founders of analytic philosophy, receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for his various humanitarian and philosophical works. He wrote his "Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy" in order to elucidate in a less technical way the main ideas of his and N. A. Whitehead's earlier "Principia Mathematica". The work focuses on mathematical logic as related to traditional and contemporary philosophy, of which Russell remarks, "logic is the youth of mathematics and mathematics is the manhood of logic." It is regarded today as a lucid, accessible exploration of the gray area where mathematics and philosophy meet. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

Music by the NumbersFrom Pythagoras to Schoenberg

Eli,Maor  著
Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

How music has influenced mathematics, physics, and astronomy from ancient Greece to the twentieth century Music is filled with mathematical elements. The works of Bach are often said to possess a math-like logic, and Arnold Schoenberg, Iannis Xenakis, and Karlheinz Stockhausen wrote music explicitly based on mathematical principles. Yet Eli Maor argues that it is music that has had the greater influence on mathematics, not the other way around. Starting with Pythagoras, proceeding through Schoenberg, and bringing the story up to the present with contemporary string theory, Music by the Numbers tells a fascinating story of composers, scientists, inventors, and eccentrics who have played a role in the age-old relationship between music, mathematics, and the physical sciences. Weaving compelling stories of historical episodes with Maor's personal reflections as a mathematician and lover of classical music, this book will delight anyone who loves math and music.

Math Girls 4

Hiroshi,Yuki  著
Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

This fourth entry in the highly acclaimed Math Girls series focuses on the mathematics of computer science and analysis of algorithms. Algorithms generally strive to take the shortest route to their goal, so how is it that adding a random element to how they work can improve their performance? Further, how can we apply mathematics to quantitatively compare the performance of different algorithms? Is it possible to predict the limits of how well an algorithm can perform, without coding and running it on an actual computer? New "math girl" and talented programmer Lisa will join Miruka and friends to explore these and other questions, applying what they learn to well-known algorithms such as bubble sort and quicksort. Other topics explored in this book include the Monty Hall problem, permutations and combinations, Pascal's triangle, the definition of probability, sample spaces, probability distributions, random variables, expected values, big-O notation, matrices, linear transformations, matrix diagonalization, random walks, the 3-SAT problem, and the P-versus-NP problem. Math Girls 4: Randomized Algorithms has something for anyone interested in mathematics and computer science, from advanced high school students to college students and educators.

Witness TheoryNotes on λ-calculus and Logic

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

This book is concerned with the mathematical analysis of the concept of formal proof in classical logic, and records - in substance - a longer exercise in applied λ-calculus. Following colloquialisms going back to L. E. J. Brouwer, the objects of study in this enterprise are called witnesses. A witness is meant to represent the logical proof of a classically valid formula, in a given proof-context. The formalisms used to express witnesses and their equational behaviour are extensions of the pure `typed' λ-calculus, considered as equational theories. Formally, a witness is generated from decorated - or `typed' - witness variables, representing assumptions, and witness operators, representing logical rules of inference. The equational specifications serve to define the witness operators. In general, this can be done by ignoring the `typing', i.e., the logic formulas themselves. Model-theoretically, the witnesses are objects of an extensional Scott λ-model. The approach - called, generically, `witness theory' - is inspired from work of N. G. de Bruijn, on a mathematical theory of proving, done during the late 1960s and the early 1970s, at the University of Eindhoven (The Netherlands), and is similar to the approach behind the Curry-Howard Correspondence, familiar from intuitionistic logic. For the classical case, the decorations - oft called `types' - are classical logic formulas. At quantifier-free level, the equational theory of concern is the λ-calculus with `surjective pairing' and some subsystens thereof, appropriately decorated. The extension to propositional, first- and second-order quantifiers is straightforward. The book consists of a collection of notes and papers written and circulated during the last ten years, as a continuation of previous research done by the author during the nineteen eighties. Among other things, it includes a survey of the origins of modern proof theory - Frege to Gentzen - from a witness-theoretical point of view, as well as a characteristic application of witness theory to a practical logic problem concerning axiomatisability.

Fixed Point Theory and Related Topics

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

Fixed point theory arose from the Banach contraction principle and has been studied for a long time. Its application mostly relies on the existence of solutions to mathematical problems that are formulated from economics and engineering. After the existence of the solutions is guaranteed, the numerical methodology will be established to obtain the approximated solution. Fixed points of function depend heavily on the considered spaces that are defined using the intuitive axioms. In particular, variant metrics spaces are proposed, like a partial metric space, b-metric space, fuzzy metric space and probabilistic metric space, etc. Different spaces will result in different types of fixed point theorems. In other words, there are a lot of different types of fixed point theorems in the literature. Therefore, this Special Issue welcomes survey articles. Articles that unify the different types of fixed point theorems are also very welcome. The topics of this Special Issue include the following: Fixed point theorems in metric space Fixed point theorems in fuzzy metric space Fixed point theorems in probabilistic metric space Fixed point theorems of set-valued functions in various spaces The existence of solutions in game theory The existence of solutions for equilibrium problems The existence of solutions of differential equations The existence of solutions of integral equations Numerical methods for obtaining the approximated fixed points

Multivalued Maps and Differential InclusionsElements of Theory and Applications

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

The theory of multivalued maps and the theory of differential inclusions are closely connected and intensively developing branches of contemporary mathematics. They have effective and interesting applications in control theory, optimization, calculus of variations, non-smooth and convex analysis, game theory, mathematical economics and in other fields. This book presents a user-friendly and self-contained introduction to both subjects. It is aimed at "beginners", starting with students of senior courses. The book will be useful both for readers whose interests lie in the sphere of pure mathematics, as well as for those who are involved in applicable aspects of the theory. In Chapter 0, basic definitions and fundamental results in topology are collected. Chapter 1 begins with examples showing how naturally the idea of a multivalued map arises in diverse areas of mathematics, continues with the description of a variety of properties of multivalued maps and finishes with measurable multivalued functions. Chapter 2 is devoted to the theory of fixed points of multivalued maps. The whole of Chapter 3 focuses on the study of differential inclusions and their applications in control theory. The subject of last Chapter 4 is the applications in dynamical systems, game theory, and mathematical economics. The book is completed with the bibliographic commentaries and additions containing the exposition related both to the sections described in the book and to those which left outside its framework. The extensive bibliography (including more than 400 items) leads from basic works to recent studies.

Discrete Mathematics and Symmetry

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

Some of the most beautiful studies in Mathematics are related to Symmetry and Geometry. For this reason, we select here some contributions about such aspects and Discrete Geometry. As we know, Symmetry in a system means invariance of its elements under conditions of transformations. When we consider network structures, symmetry means invariance of adjacency of nodes under the permutations of node set. The graph isomorphism is an equivalence relation on the set of graphs. Therefore, it partitions the class of all graphs into equivalence classes. The underlying idea of isomorphism is that some objects have the same structure if we omit the individual character of their components. A set of graphs isomorphic to each other is denominated as an isomorphism class of graphs. The automorphism of a graph will be an isomorphism from G onto itself. The family of all automorphisms of a graph G is a permutation group.

Numerical Analysis or Numerical Method in Symmetry

Ingram 出版
2020/02/01 出版

This Special Issue focuses mainly on techniques and the relative formalism typical of numerical methods and therefore of numerical analysis, more generally. These fields of study of mathematics represent an important field of investigation both in the field of applied mathematics and even more exquisitely in the pure research of the theory of approximation and the study of polynomial relations as well as in the analysis of the solutions of the differential equations both ordinary and partial derivatives. Therefore, a substantial part of research on the topic of numerical analysis cannot exclude the fundamental role played by approximation theory and some of the tools used to develop this research. In this Special Issue, we want to draw attention to the mathematical methods used in numerical analysis, such as special functions, orthogonal polynomials, and their theoretical tools, such as Lie algebra, to study the concepts and properties of some special and advanced methods, which are useful in the description of solutions of linear and nonlinear differential equations. A further field of investigation is dedicated to the theory and related properties of fractional calculus with its adequate application to numerical methods.

Topology: A Very Short Introduction

Richard,Earl  著
Ingram 出版
2020/02/01 出版

How is a subway map different from other maps? What makes a knot knotted? What makes the M繹bius strip one-sided? These are questions of topology, the mathematical study of properties preserved by twisting or stretching objects. In the 20th century topology became as broad and fundamental as algebra and geometry, with important implications for science, especially physics. In this Very Short Introduction Richard Earl gives a sense of the more visual elements of topology (looking at surfaces) as well as covering the formal definition of continuity. Considering some of the eye-opening examples that led mathematicians to recognize a need for studying topology, he pays homage to the historical people, problems, and surprises that have propelled the growth of this field. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

2020/01/01 出版

The present Special Issue of Symmetry is devoted to two important areas of global Riemannian geometry, namely submanifold theory and the geometry of Lie groups and homogeneous spaces. Submanifold theory originated from the classical geometry of curves and surfaces. Homogeneous spaces are manifolds that admit a transitive Lie group action, historically related to F. Klein's Erlangen Program and S. Lie's idea to use continuous symmetries in studying differential equations. In this Special Issue, we provide a collection of papers that not only reflect some of the latest advancements in both areas, but also highlight relations between them and the use of common techniques. Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics (color)

Bezuk,Nadine  著
Ingram 出版
2020/01/01 出版

Also available in a black + white versionAMTE, in the Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics (SPTM), puts forward a national vision of initial preparation for all Pre-K-12 teachers who teach mathematics. SPTM contains critical messages for all who teach mathematics, including elementary school teachers teaching all disciplines, middle and high school mathematics teachers who may teach mathematics exclusively, special education teachers, teachers of emergent multilingual students, and other teaching professionals and administrators who have responsibility for students' mathematical learning. SPTM has broad implications for teacher preparation programs, in which stakeholders include faculty and administrators in both education and mathematics at the university level; teachers, principals, and district leaders in the schools with which preparation programs partner; and the communities in which preparation programs and their school partners are situated.SPTM is intended as a national guide that articulates a vision for mathematics teacher preparation and supports the continuous improvement of teacher preparation programs. Such continuous improvement includes changes to preparation program courses and structures, partnerships involving schools and universities and their leaders, the ongoing accreditation of such programs regionally and nationally, and the shaping of state and national mathematics teacher preparation policy. SPTM is also designed to inform assessment practices for mathematics teacher preparation programs, to influence policies related to preparation of teachers of mathematics, and to promote national dialogue around preparing teachers of mathematics. The vision articulated in SPTM is aspirational in that it describes a set of high expectations for developing a well-prepared beginning teacher of mathematics who can support meaningful student learning. The vision is research-based and establishes a set of goals for the continued development and refinement of a mathematics teacher preparation program and a research agenda for the study of the effects of such a program. SPTM contains detailed depictions of what a well-prepared beginning teacher knows and is able to do related to content, pedagogy, and disposition, and what a strong preparation program entails with respect to learning experiences, assessments, and partnerships. Stakeholders in mathematics teacher preparation will find messages related to their roles.Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics includes standards and indicators for teacher candidates and for the design of teacher preparation programs. SPTM outlines assessment practices related to overall quality, program effectiveness, and candidate performance. SPTM describes specific focal practices by grade band and provides guidance to stakeholders regarding processes for productive change.

Differential Geometry

Ion,Mihai  著
Ingram 出版
2019/11/25 出版

The present book contains 14 papers published in the Special Issue "Differential Geometry" of the journal Mathematics. They represent a selection of the 30 submissions. This book covers a variety of both classical and modern topics in differential geometry. We mention properties of both rectifying and affine curves, the geometry of hypersurfaces, angles in Minkowski planes, Euclidean submanifolds, differential operators and harmonic forms on Riemannian manifolds, complex manifolds, contact manifolds (in particular, Sasakian and trans-Sasakian manifolds), curvature invariants, and statistical manifolds and their submanifolds (in particular, Hessian manifolds). We wish to mention that among the authors, there are both well-known geometers and young researchers. The authors are from countries with a tradition in differential geometry: Belgium, China, Greece, Japan, Korea, Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey, and United States of America. Many of these papers were already cited by other researchers in their articles. This book is useful for specialists in differential geometry, operator theory, physics, and information geometry as well as graduate students in mathematics.

Symmetry in Quantum Optics Models

Lucas,Lamata  著
Ingram 出版
2019/11/22 出版

Prototypical quantum optics models, such as the Jaynes-Cummings, Rabi, Tavis-Cummings, and Dicke models, are commonly analyzed with diverse techniques, including analytical exact solutions, mean-field theory, exact diagonalization, and so on. Analysis of these systems strongly depends on their symmetries, ranging, e.g., from a U(1) group in the Jaynes-Cummings model to a Z2 symmetry in the full-fledged quantum Rabi model. In recent years, novel regimes of light-matter interactions, namely, the ultrastrong and deep-strong coupling regimes, have been attracting an increasing amount of interest. The quantum Rabi and Dicke models in these exotic regimes present new features, such as collapses and revivals of the population, bounces of photon-number wave packets, as well as the breakdown of the rotating-wave approximation. Symmetries also play an important role in these regimes and will additionally change depending on whether the few- or many-qubit systems considered have associated inhomogeneous or equal couplings to the bosonic mode. Moreover, there is a growing interest in proposing and carrying out quantum simulations of these models in quantum platforms such as trapped ions, superconducting circuits, and quantum photonics. In this Special Issue Reprint, we have gathered a series of articles related to symmetry in quantum optics models, including the quantum Rabi model and its symmetries, Floquet topological quantum states in optically driven semiconductors, the spin-boson model as a simulator of non-Markovian multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings models, parity-assisted generation of nonclassical states of light in circuit quantum electrodynamics, and quasiprobability distribution functions from fractional Fourier transforms.

Cosmological Inflation, Dark Matter and Dark Energy

Ingram 出版
2019/11/15 出版

Various cosmological observations support not only cosmological inflation in the early universe, which is also known as exponential cosmic expansion, but also that the expansion of the late-time universe is accelerating. To explain this phenomenon, the existence of dark energy is proposed. In addition, according to the rotation curve of galaxies, the existence of dark matter, which does not shine, is also suggested. If primordial gravitational waves are detected in the future, the mechanism for realizing inflation can be revealed. Moreover, there exist two main candidates for dark matter. The first is a new particle, the existence of which is predicted in particle physics. The second is an astrophysical object which is not found by electromagnetic waves. Furthermore, there are two representative approaches to account for the accelerated expansion of the current universe. One is to assume the unknown dark energy in general relativity. The other is to extend the gravity theory to large scales. Investigation of the origins of inflation, dark matter, and dark energy is one of the most fundamental problems in modern physics and cosmology. The purpose of this book is to explore the physics and cosmology of inflation, dark matter, and dark energy.

Fractional Order Systems

Ivo,Petr獺s  著
Ingram 出版
2019/11/04 出版

This book is focused on fractional order systems. Historically, fractional calculus has been recognized since the inception of regular calculus, with the first written reference dated in September 1695 in a letter from Leibniz to L'Hospital. Nowadays, fractional calculus has a wide area of applications in areas such as physics, chemistry, bioengineering, chaos theory, control systems engineering, and many others. In all those applications, we deal with fractional order systems in general. Moreover, fractional calculus plays an important role even in complex systems and therefore allows us to develop better descriptions of real-world phenomena. On that basis, fractional order systems are ubiquitous, as the whole real world around us is fractional. Due to this reason, it is urgent to consider almost all systems as fractional order systems. This Special Issue explores applications of such systems to control, synchronization, and various mathematical models, as for instance, MRI, long memory process, diffusion.

The Ethical Algorithm

Michael,Kearns  著 、Roth, Aaron  著
Ingram 出版
2019/11/01 出版

Over the course of a generation, algorithms have gone from mathematical abstractions to powerful mediators of daily life. Algorithms have made our lives more efficient, more entertaining, and, sometimes, better informed. At the same time, complex algorithms are increasingly violating the basic rights of individual citizens. Allegedly anonymized datasets routinely leak our most sensitive personal information; statistical models for everything from mortgages to college admissions reflect racial and gender bias. Meanwhile, users manipulate algorithms to "game" search engines, spam filters, online reviewing services, and navigation apps. Understanding and improving the science behind the algorithms that run our lives is rapidly becoming one of the most pressing issues of this century. Traditional fixes, such as laws, regulations and watchdog groups, have proven woefully inadequate. Reporting from the cutting edge of scientific research, The Ethical Algorithm offers a new approach: a set of principled solutions based on the emerging and exciting science of socially aware algorithm design. Michael Kearns and Aaron Roth explain how we can better embed human principles into machine code - without halting the advance of data-driven scientific exploration. Weaving together innovative research with stories of citizens, scientists, and activists on the front lines, The Ethical Algorithm offers a compelling vision for a future, one in which we can better protect humans from the unintended impacts of algorithms while continuing to inspire wondrous advances in technology.

Change Is the Only Constant

Ben-Orlin  著
Black Dog & 出版
2019/10/08 出版

From popular math blogger and author of the underground bestseller Math With Bad Drawings, Change Is The Only Constant is an engaging and eloquent exploration of the intersection between calculus and daily life, complete with Orlin's sly humor and wonderfully bad drawings. Change is the Only Constant is an engaging and eloquent exploration of the intersection between calculus and daily life, complete with Orlin's sly humor and memorably bad drawings. By spinning 28 engaging mathematical tales, Orlin shows us that calculus is simply another language to express the very things we humans grapple with every day -- love, risk, time, and most importantly, change. Divided into two parts, "Moments" and "Eternities," and drawing on everyone from Sherlock Holmes to Mark Twain to David Foster Wallace, Change is the Only Constant unearths connections between calculus, art, literature, and a beloved dog named Elvis. This is not just math for math's sake; it's math for the sake of becoming a wiser and more thoughtful human.
