Artificial Intelligence for Financial Markets

Springer 出版
2022/09/13 出版

This book introduces the novel artificial intelligence technique of polymodels and applies it to the prediction of stock returns. The idea of polymodels is to describe a system by its sensitivities to an environment, and to monitor it, imitating what a natural brain does spontaneously. In practice this involves running a collection of non-linear univariate models. This very powerful standalone technique has several advantages over traditional multivariate regressions. With its easy to interpret results, this method provides an ideal preliminary step towards the traditional neural network approach. The first two chapters compare the technique with other regression alternatives and introduces an estimation method which regularizes a polynomial regression using cross-validation. The rest of the book applies these ideas to financial markets. Certain equity return components are predicted using polymodels in very different ways, and a genetic algorithm is describedwhich combines these different predictions into a single portfolio, aiming to optimize the portfolio returns net of transaction costs. Addressed to investors at all levels of experience this book will also be of interest to both seasoned and non-seasoned statisticians.

Eco-Stats: Data Analysis in Ecology

Springer 出版
2022/09/13 出版

This book introduces ecologists to the wonderful world of modern tools for data analysis, especially multivariate analysis. For biologists with relatively little prior knowledge of statistics, it introduces a modern, advanced approach to data analysis in an intuitive and accessible way. The book begins by reviewing some core principles in statistics, and relates common methods to the linear model, a general framework for modeling data where the response is continuous. This is then extended to discrete data using generalized linear models, to designs with multiple sampling levels via mixed models, and to situations where there are multiple response variables via model-based approaches to multivariate analysis. Along the way there is an introduction to: important principles in model selection; adaptations of the model to handle non-linearity and cyclical variables; dependence due to structured correlation in time, space or phylogeny; and design-based techniques for inference that can relax some of the modelling assumptions. It concludes with a range of advanced topics in model-based multivariate analysis relevant to the modern ecologist, including fourth corner, latent variable and copula models. Examples span a variety of applications including environmental monitoring, species distribution modeling, global-scale surveys of plant traits, and small field experiments on biological controls. Math Boxes throughout the book explain some of the core ideas mathematically for readers who want to delve deeper, and R code is used throughout. Accompanying code, data, and solutions to exercises can be found in the ecostats R package on CRAN.

Analysis and Quantum Groups

Lars,Tuset  著
Springer 出版
2022/09/13 出版

This volume presents a completely self-contained introduction to the elaborate theory of locally compact quantum groups, bringing the reader to the frontiers of present-day research. The exposition includes a substantial amount of material on functional analysis and operator algebras, subjects which in themselves have become increasingly important with the advent of quantum information theory. In particular, the rather unfamiliar modular theory of weights plays a crucial role in the theory, due to the presence of 'Haar integrals' on locally compact quantum groups, and is thus treated quite extensively The topics covered are developed independently, and each can serve either as a separate course in its own right or as part of a broader course on locally compact quantum groups. The second part of the book covers crossed products of coactions, their relation to subfactors and other types of natural products such as cocycle bicrossed products, quantum doubles and doublecrossed products. Induced corepresentations, Galois objects and deformations of coactions by cocycles are also treated. Each section is followed by a generous supply of exercises. To complete the book, an appendix is provided on topology, measure theory and complex function theory.

Equations of Motion for Incompressible Viscous Fluids

Tujin,Kim  著
Birkhauser 出版
2022/09/12 出版

This monograph explores the motion of incompressible fluids by presenting and incorporating various boundary conditions possible for real phenomena. The authors' approach carefully walks readers through the development of fluid equations at the cutting edge of research, and the applications of a variety of boundary conditions to real-world problems. Special attention is paid to the equivalence between partial differential equations with a mixture of various boundary conditions and their corresponding variational problems, especially variational inequalities with one unknown. A self-contained approach is maintained throughout by first covering introductory topics, and then moving on to mixtures of boundary conditions, a thorough outline of the Navier-Stokes equations, an analysis of both the steady and non-steady Boussinesq system, and more. Equations of Motion for Incompressible Viscous Fluids is ideal for postgraduate students and researchers in the fields of fluid equations, numerical analysis, and mathematical modelling.

Statistical Foundations of Actuarial Learning and Its Applications

Springer 出版
2022/09/08 出版

This open access book discusses the statistical modeling of insurance problems, a process which comprises data collection, data analysis and statistical model building to forecast insured events that may happen in the future. It presents the mathematical foundations behind these fundamental statistical concepts and how they can be applied in daily actuarial practice. Statistical modeling has a wide range of applications, and, depending on the application, the theoretical aspects may be weighted differently: here the main focus is on prediction rather than explanation. Starting with a presentation of state-of-the-art actuarial models, such as generalized linear models, the book then dives into modern machine learning tools such as neural networks and text recognition to improve predictive modeling with complex features. Providing practitioners with detailed guidance on how to apply machine learning methods to real-world data sets, and how to interpret the results without losing sight of the mathematical assumptions on which these methods are based, the book can serve as a modern basis for an actuarial education syllabus.

On Extended Hardy-Hilbert Integral Inequalities and Applications

Bicheng,Yang  著
Ingram 出版
2022/09/07 出版

Hilbert-type inequalities, including Hilbert's inequalities proved in 1908, Hardy-Hilbert-type inequalities proved in 1934, and Yang-Hilbert-type inequalities first proved around 1998, play an important role in analysis and its applications. These inequalities are mainly divided in three classes: integral, discrete and half-discrete. During the last twenty years, there have been many research advances on Hilbert-type inequalities, and especially on Yang-Hilbert-type inequalities. In the present monograph, applying weight functions, the idea of parametrization as well as techniques of real analysis and functional analysis, we prove some new Hilbert-type integral inequalities as well as their reverses with parameters. These inequalities constitute extensions of the well-known Hardy-Hilbert integral inequality. The equivalent forms and some equivalent statements of the best possible constant factors associated with several parameters are considered. Furthermore, we also obtain the operator expressions with the norm and some particular inequalities involving the Riemann-zeta function and the Hurwitz-zeta function. In the form of applications, by means of the beta function and the gamma function, we use the extended Hardy-Hilbert integral inequalities to consider several Hilbert-type integral inequalities involving derivative functions and upper limit functions. In the last chapter, we consider the case of Hardy-type integral inequalities. The lemmas and theorems within provide an extensive account of these kinds of integral inequalities and operators.Efforts have been made for this monograph hopefully to be useful, especially to graduate students of mathematics, physics and engineering, as well as researchers in these domains.

Mathematical Foundation of Fuzzy Sets

Wiley 出版
2022/09/06 出版

Mathematical Foundations of Fuzzy Sets Introduce yourself to the foundations of fuzzy logic with this easy-to-use guide Many fields studied are defined by imprecise information or high degrees of uncertainty. When this uncertainty derives from randomness, traditional probabilistic statistical methods are adequate to address it; more everyday forms of vagueness and imprecision, however, require the toolkit associated with 'fuzzy sets' and 'fuzzy logic'. Engineering and mathematical fields related to artificial intelligence, operations research and decision theory are now strongly driven by fuzzy set theory. Mathematical Foundations of Fuzzy Sets introduces readers to the theoretical background and practical techniques required to apply fuzzy logic to engineering and mathematical problems. It introduces the mathematical foundations of fuzzy sets as well as the current cutting edge of fuzzy-set operations and arithmetic, offering a rounded introduction to this essential field of applied mathematics. The result can be used either as a textbook or as an invaluable reference for working researchers and professionals. Mathematical Foundations of Fuzzy Sets offers thereader: Detailed coverage of set operations, fuzzification of crisp operations, and more Logical structure in which each chapter builds carefully on previous results Intuitive structure, divided into 'basic' and 'advanced' sections, to facilitate use in one- or two-semester courses Mathematical Foundations of Fuzzy Sets is essential for graduate students and academics in engineering and applied mathematics, particularly those doing work in artificial intelligence, decision theory, operations research, and related fields.

Stochastic Elasticity

Springer 出版
2022/09/04 出版

Stochastic elasticity is a fast developing field that combines nonlinear elasticity and stochastic theories in order to significantly improve model predictions by accounting for uncertainties in the mechanical responses of materials. However, in contrast to the tremendous development of computational methods for large-scale problems, which have been proposed and implemented extensively in recent years, at the fundamental level, there is very little understanding of the uncertainties in the behaviour of elastic materials under large strains.Based on the idea that every large-scale problem starts as a small-scale data problem, this book combines fundamental aspects of finite (large-strain) elasticity and probability theories, which are prerequisites for the quantification of uncertainties in the elastic responses of soft materials. The problems treated in this book are drawn from the analytical continuum mechanics literature and incorporate random variables as basic concepts along with mechanical stresses and strains. Such problems are interesting in their own right but they are also meant to inspire further thinking about how stochastic extensions can be formulated before they can be applied to more complex physical systems.

Partial Differential Equations

Springer 出版
2022/08/31 出版

This textbook introduces the study of partial differential equations using both analytical and numerical methods. By intertwining the two complementary approaches, the authors create an ideal foundation for further study. Motivating examples from the physical sciences, engineering, and economics complete this integrated approach. A showcase of models begins the book, demonstrating how PDEs arise in practical problems that involve heat, vibration, fluid flow, and financial markets. Several important characterizing properties are used to classify mathematical similarities, then elementary methods are used to solve examples of hyperbolic, elliptic, and parabolic equations. From here, an accessible introduction to Hilbert spaces and the spectral theorem lay the foundation for advanced methods. Sobolev spaces are presented first in dimension one, before being extended to arbitrary dimension for the study of elliptic equations. An extensive chapter on numerical methods focuses onfinite difference and finite element methods. Computer-aided calculation with Maple(TM) completes the book. Throughout, three fundamental examples are studied with different tools: Poisson's equation, the heat equation, and the wave equation on Euclidean domains. The Black-Scholes equation from mathematical finance is one of several opportunities for extension. Partial Differential Equations offers an innovative introduction for students new to the area. Analytical and numerical tools combine with modeling to form a versatile toolbox for further study in pure or applied mathematics. Illuminating illustrations and engaging exercises accompany the text throughout. Courses in real analysis and linear algebra at the upper-undergraduate level are assumed.

Probabilistic Risk Analysis and Bayesian Decision Theory

Springer 出版
2022/08/31 出版

The book shows how risk, defined as the statistical expectation of loss, can be formally decomposed as the product of two terms: hazard probability and system vulnerability. This requires a specific definition of vulnerability that replaces the many fuzzy definitions abounding in the literature. The approach is expanded to more complex risk analysis with three components rather than two, and with various definitions of hazard. Equations are derived to quantify the uncertainty of each risk component and show how the approach relates to Bayesian decision theory. Intended for statisticians, environmental scientists and risk analysts interested in the theory and application of risk analysis, this book provides precise definitions, new theory, and many examples with full computer code. The approach is based on straightforward use of probability theory which brings rigour and clarity. Only a moderate knowledge and understanding of probability theory is expected from the reader.

Statistics Is Easy

Springer 出版
2022/08/31 出版

Computational analysis of natural science experiments often confronts noisy data due to natural variability in environment or measurement. Drawing conclusions in the face of such noise entails a statistical analysis. Parametric statistical methods assume that the data is a sample from a population that can be characterized by a specific distribution (e.g., a normal distribution). When the assumption is true, parametric approaches can lead to high confidence predictions. However, in many cases particular distribution assumptions do not hold. In that case, assuming a distribution may yield false conclusions. The companion book Statistics is Easy, gave a (nearly) equation-free introduction to nonparametric (i.e., no distribution assumption) statistical methods. The present book applies data preparation, machine learning, and nonparametric statistics to three quite different life science datasets. We provide the code as applied to each dataset in both R and Python 3. We also include exercises for self-study or classroom use.

This book offers an accessible introduction to random walk and diffusion models at a level consistent with the typical background of students in the life sciences. In recent decades these models have become widely used in areas far beyond their traditional origins in physics, for example, in studies of animal behavior, ecology, sociology, sports science, population genetics, public health applications, and human decision making. Developing the main formal concepts, the book provides detailed and intuitive step-by-step explanations, and moves smoothly from simple to more complex models. Finally, in the last chapter, some successful and original applications of random walk and diffusion models in the life and behavioral sciences are illustrated in detail. The treatment of basic techniques and models is consolidated and extended throughout by a set of carefully chosen exercises.

Economic Policy of the People's Republic of China

Ingram 出版
2022/08/31 出版

This book deals with the current economic policy of the People's Republic of China. In addition to a brief overview of economic history since its founding and discussions of economic models, an overview of both the forms of business and the Chinese labor market is provided. The book pays particular attention to the development of China's e-commerce sector. Equally significant are China's environmental issues against the backdrop of the climate crisis. Without innovations, for example in energy production and waste management, the Chinese economy will hardly be able to continue growing. Therefore, one focus of the book is on economic policy in the environmental sector. Finally, foreign policy, including the Silk Road Initiative, is examined. The aim of this book is to highlight the above developments. It is aimed at laypersons involved in the business of China as well as first-year students who want an overview of economic policy institutions and current developments.

Essential Ordinary Differential Equations

Springer 出版
2022/08/31 出版

This textbook offers an engaging account of the theory of ordinary differential equations intended for advanced undergraduate students of mathematics. Informed by the author's extensive teaching experience, the book presents a series of carefully selected topics that, taken together, cover an essential body of knowledge in the field. Each topic is treated rigorously and in depth. The book begins with a thorough treatment of linear differential equations, including general boundary conditions and Green's functions. The next chapters cover separable equations and other problems solvable by quadratures, series solutions of linear equations and matrix exponentials, culminating in Sturm-Liouville theory, an indispensable tool for partial differential equations and mathematical physics. The theoretical underpinnings of the material, namely, the existence and uniqueness of solutions and dependence on initial values, are treated at length. A noteworthy feature ofthis book is the inclusion of project sections, which go beyond the main text by introducing important further topics, guiding the student by alternating exercises and explanations. Designed to serve as the basis for a course for upper undergraduate students, the prerequisites for this book are a rigorous grounding in analysis (real and complex), multivariate calculus and linear algebra. Some familiarity with metric spaces is also helpful. The numerous exercises of the text provide ample opportunities for practice, and the aforementioned projects can be used for guided study. Some exercises have hints to help make the book suitable for independent study.fsfsfsscs

Stabilization for Some Fractional-Evolution Systems

Springer 出版
2022/08/30 出版

This brief provides unified methods for the stabilization of some fractional evolution systems, nicely complementing existing literature on fractional calculus. The volume is divided into three chapters, the first of which considers the stabilization for some abstract evolution equations with a fractional damping, the second of which validates the abstract results of chapter 1 on concrete examples, and the third of which studies the stabilization of fractional evolution systems with memory.

Research Topics in Analysis, Volume I

Shouchuan,Hu  著
Birkhauser 出版
2022/08/30 出版

This book, which is the first of two volumes, presents, in a unique way, some of the most relevant research tools of modern analysis. This work empowers young researchers with all the necessary techniques to explore the various subfields of this broad subject, and introduces relevant frameworks where these tools can be immediately deployed.Volume I starts with the foundations of modern analysis. The first three chapters are devoted to topology, measure theory, and functional analysis. Chapter 4 offers a comprehensive analysis of the main function spaces, while Chapter 5 covers more concrete subjects, like multivariate analysis, which are closely related to applications and more difficult to find in compact form. Chapter 6 deals with smooth and non-smooth calculus of functions; Chapter 7 introduces certain important classes of nonlinear operators; and Chapter 8 complements the previous three chapters with topics of variational analysis. Eachchapter of this volume finishes with a list of problems - handy for understanding and self-study - and historical notes that give the reader a more vivid picture of how the theory developed. Volume II consists of various applications using the tools and techniques developed in this volume.By offering a clear and wide picture of the tools and applications of modern analysis, this work can be of great benefit not only to mature graduate students seeking topics for research, but also to experienced researchers with an interest in this vast and rich field of mathematics.

Understanding the China Threat

Lianchao,Han  著
Ingram 出版
2022/08/30 出版

This book examines the contours of the Sino-American confrontation and its future trajectories. It delineates the two major causes of the friction in Sino-American relations--change in the balance of power in China's favor and the conf licting ideologies of the two states--and emphasizes why it is imperative for the U.S. to hold on to its ideological principles. It demonstrates the ultimate and irreconcilable gap in the visions the two competitors have for international politics and consequently why conf lict--certainly cold, and very possibly hot--is inevitable. The authors also suggest measures which the U.S. can adopt to sustain its leadership and deter China's ideology and vision for the future of global politics.A significant contribution to the study of Sino-American relations, the volume will be of interest to scholars and researchers of international relations, foreign policy, and U.S. and Chinese politics. It will be of great interest to think tanks, public policy professionals, and the interested general reader.

Calculus Off the Beaten Path

Springer 出版
2022/08/30 出版

This textbook provides a gentle overview of fundamental concepts related to one-variable calculus. The original approach is a result of the author's forty years of experience in teaching the subject at universities around the world. In this book, Dr. Zalduendo makes use of the history of mathematics and a friendly, conversational approach to attract the attention of the student, emphasizing what is more conceptually relevant and putting key notions in a historical perspective. Such an approach was conceived to help them to overcome potential difficulties in teaching and learning of this subject -- caused, in many cases, by an excess of technicalities and computations.Besides covering the core of the discipline -- real number, sequences and series, functions, derivatives, integrals, convexity and inequalities -- the book is enriched by "side trips" to relevant subjects not usually seen in traditional calculus textbooks, touching on topics like curvature, theisoperimetric inequality, Riemann's rearrangement theorem, Snell's law, Buffon's needle problem, Gregory's series, random walk and the Gauss curve, and more. An insightful collection of exercises and applications completes this book, making it ideal as a supplementary textbook for a calculus course or the main textbook for an honors course on the subject.

Innovative Integrals and Their Applications I

Springer 出版
2022/08/30 出版

This book develops integral identities, mostly involving multidimensional functions and infinite limits of integration, whose evaluations are intractable by common means. It exposes a methodology based on the multivariate power substitution and its variants, assisted by the software tool Mathematica. The approaches introduced comprise the generalized method of exhaustion, the multivariate power substitution and its variants, and the use of permutation symmetry to evaluate definite integrals, which are very important both in their own right, and as necessary intermediate steps towards more involved computation.A key tenet is that such approaches work best when applied to integrals having certain characteristics as a starting point. Most integrals, if used as a starting point, will lead to no result at all, or will lead to a known result. However, there is a special class of integrals (i.e., innovative integrals) which, if used as a starting point for such approaches, willlead to new and useful results, and can also enable the reader to generate many other new results that are not in the book. The reader will find a myriad of novel approaches for evaluating integrals, with a focus on tools such as Mathematica as a means of obtaining useful results, and also checking whether they are already known. Results presented involve the gamma function, the hypergeometric functions, the complementary error function, the exponential integral function, the Riemann zeta function, and others that will be introduced as they arise. The book concludes with selected engineering applications, e.g., involving wave propagation, antenna theory, non-Gaussian and weighted Gaussian distributions, and other areas. The intended audience comprises junior and senior sciences majors planning to continue in the pure and applied sciences at the graduate level, graduate students in mathematics and the sciences, and junior and established researchers in mathematicalphysics, engineering, and mathematics. Indeed, the pedagogical inclination of the exposition will have students work out, understand, and efficiently use multidimensional integrals from first principles.
