Building Secure and Reliable Systems

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

Can a system be considered truly reliable if it isn't fundamentally secure? Or can it be considered secure if it's unreliable? Security is crucial to the design and operation of scalable systems in production, as it plays an important part in product quality, performance, and availability. In this book, experts from Google share best practices to help your organization design scalable and reliable systems that are fundamentally secure. Two previous O'Reilly books from Google--Site Reliability Engineering and The Site Reliability Workbook--demonstrated how and why a commitment to the entire service lifecycle enables organizations to successfully build, deploy, monitor, and maintain software systems. In this latest guide, the authors offer insights into system design, implementation, and maintenance from practitioners who specialize in security and reliability. They also discuss how building and adopting their recommended best practices requires a culture that's supportive of such change. You'll learn about secure and reliable systems through: Design strategies Recommendations for coding, testing, and debugging practices Strategies to prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents Cultural best practices that help teams across your organization collaborate effectively

Metadata in File Systems

Ingram 出版
2020/03/01 出版

In this book, we clearly define hierarchical file system problems; expose the minimal set of services that file systems should provide to users to meet their needs. Identifying the problems and services are the first important step to identify solutions for hierarchical file systems problems. We find that the identified problems and the required services are linked, so based on them we propose effective criteria to assess the efficacy of any models for metadata file systems. Also, this research investigates the different dimensions and associated choices that participate in the proposal of new approaches and that affect their ability to improve on current systems. The Cartesian product of those dimensions and options forms a large design space. We prune these dimensions into key items based on criteria that are clearly described to be the first guidance to researchers and the designers in this field. We come up with 48 different models (tagging and at- tributed models). We select 10 models from this set to be described in detail. We formally describe and evaluate these models.

Apple Watch Series 5 for Seniors

Ingram 出版
2019/09/30 出版

The Apple Watch looks pretty snazzy, right? People have told you all about the cool features: like if you fall it will automatically call for help! They've told you about how you can send a text from your wrist. How you can even make a phone call. That's all great. But how do you actually use it?!As amazing as all the new features are, it's not quite as easy to use as an iPhone; the lack of buttons, the smaller screen, and general UI can make a frustrating initial experience. It looks nothing like the iPhone or iPad interface you are used to--except for a handful of icons. If you are lost and don't have a lot of time to comb through thousands of pages of tech-speak just to learn how to use a watch, then this book is for you! This book is based on the book "The Ridiculously Simple Guide to Apple Watch Series 5" but includes sections specifically for seniors (including accessibility features that make text easier to see). Are you ready to start enjoying your new Apple Watch? Then let's get started!

Sudo: You're Doing It WrongUnix-like operating systems use a rudimentary access control system: the root account can do anything, while other users are peasants with only minimal access. This worked fine in UNIX's youth, but now that sysadmin responsibilities are spread among many people and applications, many people need a tiny slice of root's power.Sudo lets you divide root's monolithic power between the people who need it with accountability and auditability.Sudo Mastery will teach you to: design a secure sudo policy simplify policies with lists and aliases manage shell environments verify system integrity via intrusion detection deploy a single sudo policy across your enterprise manage sudo policies via LDAP log and debug sudo record and replay full sudo sessions use authentication systems other than passwords Master sudo with Sudo Mastery!

Learning Chaos Engineering

Russ,Miles  著
O'Reilly Media 出版
2019/08/01 出版

Most companies work hard to avoid costly failures, but in complex systems a better approach is to embrace and learn from them. Through chaos engineering, you can proactively hunt for evidence of system weaknesses before they trigger a crisis. This practical book shows software developers and system administrators how to plan and run successful chaos engineering experiments. System weaknesses go beyond your infrastructure, platforms, and applications to include policies, practices, playbooks, and people. Author Russ Miles explains why, when, and how to test systems, processes, and team responses using simulated failures on Game Days. You'll also learn how to work toward continuous chaos through automation with features you can share across your team and organization. Rapid Cybersecurity Ops

Troncone, Paul  著 、Albing, Carl  著
O'Reilly Media 出版
2019/06/04 出版

If you hope to outmaneuver threat actors, speed and efficiency need to be key components of your cybersecurity operations. Mastery of the standard command-line interface (CLI) is an invaluable skill in times of crisis because no other software application can match the CLI's availability, flexibility, and agility. This practical guide shows you how to use the CLI with the bash shell to perform tasks such as data collection and analysis, intrusion detection, reverse engineering, and administration. Authors Paul Troncone, founder of Digadel Corporation, and Carl Albing, coauthor of bash Cookbook (O'Reilly), provide insight into command-line tools and techniques to help defensive operators collect data, analyze logs, and monitor networks. Penetration testers will learn how to leverage the enormous amount of functionality built into nearly every version of Linux to enable offensive operations. In four parts, security practitioners, administrators, and students will examine: Foundations: Principles of defense and offense, command-line and bash basics, and regular expressions Defensive security operations: Data collection and analysis, real-time log monitoring, and malware analysis Penetration testing: Script obfuscation and tools for command-line fuzzing and remote access Security administration: Users, groups, and permissions; device and software inventory
