Algebraic, Analytic, and Computational Number Theory and Its Applications
Analytic number theory is a branch of number theory which uses methods from mathematical analysis in order to solve difficult problems about integers. Analytic number theory can be split into two major areas: multiplicative number theory and additive number theory. Bernhard Riemann made some very important contributions to the field of analytic number theory; among others, he investigated the Riemann zeta function, and he established its importance for understanding the distribution of prime numbers. A typical problem of analytic number theory is the enumeration of number-theoretic objects like primes, solutions of Diophantine equations, etc. Algebraic number theory on the other hand studies the arithmetic of algebraic number fields, i.e., the ring of integers of arbitrary number fields. It embraces, among others, the study of the ideals and of the group of units in the ring of integers and the extent to which unique factorization holds. The purpose and scope of this ''Special Issue" were to collect new results in algebraic number theory and analytic number theory (namely in the areas of ramification theory in algebraic number fields, class field theory, arithmetic functions, L-functions, modular forms and elliptic curves) and in some similar research areas (namely associative algebras, logical algebras, elementary number theory, combinatorics, difference equations, group rings and algebraic hyper-structures).

Surviving Technology
Technology has been changing our lives from the beginning of human history. Now Artificial Intelligence threatens to accelerate and intensify this change. These changes will be of familiar kinds, but their range and pace is frightening to many people, with good reason. I have studied change and resistance to change in the realm of theater. The arts of theater call for people to pay attention to each other. Because paying attention is fundamental to human life, I have argued that theater itself is fundamental to being human (The Necessity of Theater, 2008). In this book I take on a set of challenges we face from technology, using theater as a microcosm for the larger issues. Our history provides models for dealing with Artificial Intelligence. Sometimes our ancestors caved in to new technologies, sometimes they resisted. The reasons behind their choices are important for us today. So are the strategies they used when they decided to resist. In successive chapters I deal with the necessity of paying attention to each other, and then the necessities of preserving truth, freedom, and the quest for wisdom. In the last chapter I show how we can rescue our heritage from innovations of technology by translating it into forms that are alive for us.
Structures of Computing
Structures of Computing explains the behavioral meaning of fundamental concepts of computing from a practical viewpoint and in generic terms, unrestricted by specific computing devices or programming languages. To compute is understood as processing structures by a set of cooperating agents each of which executes an algorithm assigned to it and interacts with the other agents. Part I of the book defines the conceptual constituents of interactive processes: (i) data, i.e. structured objects with associated properties, relations and functions the algorithmic processes operate upon, (ii) basic operations that affect the data in single execution steps, and (iii) control mechanisms that determine the combination of single steps in multi-agent computations where the interaction happens via communication or other forms of data sharing. Part II analyses these constituents concerning (i) methods to achieve process correctness (inspection, experimental validation, reasoning), (ii) principal computational paradigms (architectures, programming styles, communication structures, control patterns from sequential and reflective to concurrent, mixed synchronous/asynchronous and data flow control), and (iii) complexity (power and limits of computing structures). The book is mainly addressed to students and professionals who want to understand the conceptual foundation of computing. It does not assume any specific programming experience but only a basic understanding of what are mechanically executable processes and their descriptions. Any unnecessary formalism is thus avoided, and definitions are formulated as much as possible in natural language, using common mathematical notation only where needed to prevent ambiguities. Numerous examples and exercises serve as comprehension checkpoints.

Computability and Complexity
This is a book about computation, something which is ubiquitous in the modern world. More precisely, it examines computability theory and computational complexity theory. Computability theory is the part of mathematics and computer science which seeks to clarify what we mean by computation or algorithm. When is there a computational solution possible to some question? How can we show that none is possible? How computationally hard is the question we are concerned with? Arguably, this area lead to the development of digital computers. (Computational) complexity theory is an intellectual heir of computability theory. Complexity theory is concerned with understanding what resources are needed for computation, where typically we would measure the resources in terms of time and space. Can we perform some task in a feasible number of steps? Can we perform some algorithm with only a limited memory? Does randomness help? Are there standard approaches to overcoming computational difficulty?
Data Science--Analytics and Applications
Based on the overall digitalization in all spheres of our lives, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are nowadays cornerstones for innovation, problem solutions, and business transformation. Data, whether structured or unstructured, numerical, textual, or audiovisual, put in context with other data or analyzed and processed by smart algorithms, are the basis for intelligent concepts and practical solutions. These solutions address many application areas such as Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, smart energy generation, and distribution, and environmental management. Innovation dynamics and business opportunities for effective solutions for the essential societal, environmental, or health challenges, are enabled and driven by modern data science approaches. However, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence are forming a new field that needs attention and focused research. Effective data science is only achieved in a broad and diverse discourse- when data science experts cooperate tightly with application domain experts and scientists exchange views and methods with engineers and business experts. Thus, the 5th International Data Science Conference (iDSC 2023) brings together researchers, scientists, business experts, and practitioners to discuss new approaches, methods, and tools made possible by data science.
Tales of Electrologica
Manufacturing computers in series was quite a feat in the 1950s. As mathematical as it gets, the machines discussed here were called X1 and X8.The industrial achievement combined with the background in a mathematical research center made the company Electrologica a legend in Dutch computing. The tales in this book are told by those who have a right to tell. Highly engaged professionals take readers back to their pioneering work with the machines and in retrospect unveil some of the values, which went without saying in the 1960s. To disagree, Paul Klint relates the contrasting views on software in Dutch research traditions. ALGOL culture: Frans Kruseman Aretz takes the reader along to the detailed decisions on constructing compilers and shows the values of an ALGOL culture transpiring. Signposts: Dirk Dekker for the first time 'owns' his algorithm for mutual exclusion. In particle physics: Ren矇 van Dantzig's use case was an Electrologica X8 computer controlling two other computers in three-dimensional detection of colliding particles. Early steps in AI: Lambert Meertens' tale of the X8 machine composing a violin quartet comes with his original presentation, as well as the code in ALGOL 60. The reflections of first hand experiences combine well with the second thoughts of historical research into archival sources. Historians Huub de Beer and Gerard Alberts offer a view into the boardrooms of the local enterprise Electrologica, and of the electronics multinational Philips. Where pioneers and historians meet in an inspiring dialogue, the reader gains a view on the often implicit decisions constituting the field.Fortuitously, a copy of the X8 was retrieved from Kiel, Germany, and put on display at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, Leiden. Sparked by the very material presence of an X8, the present book takes stock of the state of historiography of Electrologica.Gerard Alberts is an associate professor in History of Digital Cultures, retired from the University of Amsterdam. Jan Friso Groote is a full professor of Formal Methods at the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Comprehensive and Comparative Review of Covid-19 detection using various deep learning techniques
Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, language: English, abstract: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), as designated by the World Health Organization, is causing a pandemic that will affect the entire world. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, which is the source of COVID-19, was first identified in late December 2019 in Wuhan, China. Within a few months, the virus had spread to various countries across the world. Because COVID-19 affects millions of individuals worldwide, it has turned into a global health emergency. The most typical symptoms of COVID-19 virus are fever, a dry cough, and gastrointestinal issues. Being extremely contagious, the illness readily spreads to persons in close touch with those who are infected. Contact tracking is a good way to stop the virus from spreading, according to us. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in particular have achieved successful outcomes in the categorization and analysis of medical image data using artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. This survey and research proposes a deep CNN architecture for the diagnosis of COVID-19 based on the classification of chest X-ray and CT-Scan images. This review article explains how to use a database of X-ray and CT-Scan images from patients with common bacterial pneumonia to automatically diagnose coronavirus infection., proven Covid-19 infection, and common cases. The study's objective was to assess the value of COVID-19 acquisition. Globally speaking, the number of infected cases increases dramatically in the COVID-19 scenario. Because of this, medical professionals and infected patients made the crucial option to quickly embrace various medical facilities.

Uncertainty Analyses in Environmental Sciences and Hydrogeology
This book highlights several methods and quantitative implementations of both probabilistic and fuzzy-based approaches to uncertainty quantification and uncertainty propagation through environmental subsurface pollution models with uncertain input parameters. The book focuses on methods as well as applications in hydrogeology, soil hydrology, groundwater contamination, and related areas (e.g., corrosion of nuclear waste canisters). The methods are illustrated for a broad spectrum of models, from non-differential I/O models to complex PDE solvers, including a novel 3D quasi-analytical model of contaminant transport, and a site-specific computer model of dissolved contaminant migration from a DNAPL (Dense Non Aqueous Phase Liquid) pollution source.
Probability, Stochastic Processes and Optimization
The present reprint encompasses all the articles that have been accepted and published in the Special Issue entitled "Probability, Stochastic Processes and Optimization". In applied research, Probability Theory is usually regarded as a distant, often-neglected relative of Statistics. This Special Issue attempted to rectify this misconception by publishing papers presenting novel applications and original models from the natural, computer, or social sciences, based on Probability and Stochastic Processes.
