Despeckling & Object Recognition in Synthetic Aperture RADAR Imagery
This book covers the contents of my Ph.D work. The despeckling concept of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery and object recognition and classification of the SAR imagery dataset has been covered. The various available literature with their pros and cons and tried to overcome them with a new approach by utilizing some optimization methods has been explained. The SAR image despeckling process has been covered by introducing a new framework in which I have applied a fruit fly optimization algorithm to enhance the execution time and also improved the smoothness of the images without losing any image information. Different machine learning algorithms have been used to compare the classification result based on original SAR imagery and despeckled SAR imagery. Experimental results depict found the improved performance in terms of different parameters.
Water Microbial Pollution Risk Simulation and Prediction using ML
Water quality has been a global concern due to its scarcity as well as it is direct effects on wellbeing and food production. Therefore, many studies have been addressing this matter in order to address the consequences left behind. Consider the harmful effects of polluted water moving uninterrupted over vast distances and through countless homes. The water we drink, cook with, and bathe in would not be safe requiring an immediate response in order to reduce the damage as a direct result of the pollution. The aim of this study was to develop models that could evaluate the microbial water contamination by understanding its pattern and thus predicting its behavior in advance based on spatiotemporal analysis and time series analysis. The goal of this study is to (a) understand the relevant factors that could precede the microbial contamination and their impact on spreading the contamination. (b) predict and forecast the future values of Coliform. Coliform and E.coli are types of bacterium where their presence in water is considered as a potential and/or extreme health hazard that may cause food poisoning. I have used and analyzed water quality parameters trends from 2015 to 2021 by using seasonal trend decomposition of time series plots in order to understand the behavior of Coliform through water distribution system allocating at different places across New York that are previously detected with E.coli. Three models are developed in order to predict the contamination with Coliform for all sites for the next 15 months. The machine learning algorithms are Holt-winters method, ETS, and seasonal ARIMA. Seasonal ARIMA model achieved better accuracy compared to other models.

This book presents some of the selected works presented during the 5th Mexican Workshop on Fractional Calculus on October 5-7, 2022, hosted by the Tecnol籀gico de Monterrey in Nuevo Le籀n. The works correspond to those recent proposals and applications on fractional calculus carried out in Mexico or by Latin American researchers related in one way or another to this country. Unfortunately, some of the papers we discussed during these three days of complete (not fractional) immersion in the non-integer operators were disregarded from this book, not because of their quality or relevance but due to reasons out of the academic domain. It is also worth mentioning that students of all levels, practitioners, and researchers attending this workshop participated in great critical discussions in every single session, including tutorials, plenary talks, accepted talks, and-not the least relevant to science-coffee breaks.

Simulation-Optimization in Logistics, Transportation, and SCM

This book introduces readers to the minimum description length (MDL) principle and its applications in learning. The MDL is a fundamental principle for inductive inference, which is used in many applications including statistical modeling, pattern recognition and machine learning. At its core, the MDL is based on the premise that "the shortest code length leads to the best strategy for learning anything from data." The MDL provides a broad and unifying view of statistical inferences such as estimation, prediction and testing and, of course, machine learning.The content covers the theoretical foundations of the MDL and broad practical areas such as detecting changes and anomalies, problems involving latent variable models, and high dimensional statistical inference, among others. Mathematical Problems in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering
With increasing requirements for energy, resources and space, rock engineering projects are being constructed more often and are operated in large-scale environments with complex geology. Meanwhile, rock failures and rock instabilities occur more frequently, and severely threaten the safety and stability of rock engineering projects. It is well-recognized that rock has multi-scale structures and involves multi-scale fracture processes. Meanwhile, rocks are commonly subjected simultaneously to complex static stress and strong dynamic disturbance, providing a hotbed for the occurrence of rock failures. In addition, there are many multi-physics coupling processes in a rock mass. It is still difficult to understand these rock mechanics and characterize rock behavior during complex stress conditions, multi-physics processes, and multi-scale changes. Therefore, our understanding of rock mechanics and the prevention and control of failure and instability in rock engineering needs to be furthered. The primary aim of this Special Issue "Mathematical Problems in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering" is to bring together original research discussing innovative efforts regarding in situ observations, laboratory experiments and theoretical, numerical, and big-data-based methods to overcome the mathematical problems related to rock mechanics and rock engineering.
